ITT /tg/ creates a setting.
Everything applies unless posts are contradictory, in which case whichever went first trumps the contradiction.

>There is an AI ruling over a discworld built around a star.
>>
Magic exists.
>>
>>53925575
the magic is actually the harnessing of rips in space time and anomolies to do things that should be impossible and bypass normal physics
>>
Gods exist, and all but one of them are evil or disdainful of humanity.
>>
there are multiple races
>>
>>53925590
The one god which doesn't hate humanity actually is the AI, which is artificial of course.
>>
>>53925607
it isn't certain but some theorize that the ai is human made
>>
>>53925607
She was created by ancient humanity so they would always have a friend and protector from the other gods and their created races.

nobody quite knows how humanity came about in the first place, and are the only race that created their god rather than their god creating them.
>>
spaceships exist but the ai has entrapped the world inhabitants in orbit. the only way out is an ancient magical space elevator
>>
Dragons exist
>>
>>53925631
but because this is a discworld it's more of a space road

Humans were the only race that evolved naturally, rather than being created.

Insects and arachnids have evolved to become massive and sentient through the use of magic. They have a thriving society

All arthropods are sworn enemies of humanity. They believe in genetic purity, and are masters of biotechnology.

Not all insects and arachids, just a few species, and their society is a caste-based theocracy.
>>
>>53925680
they are sort of right about humanity though
>>
>>53925680
The views are held likewise. The bugpeople worship Krktktsk, The perfectionist hunter god. This god hates humans for their impure origins.

the arthropod race DOES NOT have boobs, sorry guys

>>53925684
Bees are the most powerful of the societies, with their queen being known throughout the world
>>

The A.I. is insane, great computer style.

the queen doesn't rule though, she is the means of production (or reproduction)

Elves are the creation of one of the Gods, meant to be as proof that Humanity are inferior to the gods.

despite having many advantages over mankind, including superior strength, reflexes, dexterity, a greater affinity for magic, much longer lives, and faster thought process, they seemingly can not defeat mankind on a grand scale.

many theorize that this is the work of humanity's true god, who is careful to not reveal himself and was flattered upon mankind subconsciously building a wife for him.
>>
>>53925727
The A.I. was made by the arthropods to go insane and betray humanity
>>
>>53925716

Others include the hulking beetles, the predatory spiders, and the industrious ants.
>>
>>53925719
bugs are proud of their shells and emphasize them through polishing and other means.

To have your shell damaged is considered an unfortunate scarring.

To purposefully modify ones own shell through carving or tattooing is extremely tabboo, and is considered an afront of the perfectionist god's work.

Thats a contradiction. The AI both likes humans and was likely created by them.

Humans are probably crazy too.
>>
>>53925734

This may also have to do with humanity's aptitude for risk-taking and prolific breeding rate.
>>

What if the elves just reproduced slowly and perceived time much quicker, making decades feel like months?

Alright, lets settle this now, first person to respond is final

>are humans dead, dying, or alive and well?
>>
the gods physically exist in space and you can theoretically fight them
>>
>>53925747
they are overpowered.

just that for whatever reason, they simply can't defeat mankind on a grand scale, 1v1 it's no problem but when it gets down to even as small as 10v10 things that shouldn't go wrong for the elves do go wrong.

this has resulting in the saying "having the luck of the elves", extremely bad luck for an event that should have been done with ease but failed none the less.

another by-product of this is that humans always travel in packs of at least 10.
>>
>>53925780

Humans are alive, but they are not well. Their species is declining from a previous golden age, and other races are doing their best to push them to the brink of extinction.
>>
>>53925784
okay, elves do not have the same social capacity as humans then, and work worse in groups and struggle to cooperate
>>
>>53925784
Everything thinks the elves are being screwed over by the unseen god who favors humanity, but this is unknown. The human loving god is only known through rumor and human optimism.
>>

They are alive and well, but some terrible cosmic catastrophe has begun to kill the gods off, and when a god dies the species it creates begins to die off at an alarming rate.
>>
>>53925806
the bugs have the opposite problem, so social that they struggle to work when separated from the pack and are easily overwhelmed
>>
>>53925806

Individually, elves are superior to humans, but they're terrible at social networking and can't effectively organize on a large scale. When they do, humans almost always manage to defeat them, it is theorized that in a large group of elves, they subtly drain one another's power, exponentially weakening them until they are alone again.
>>
>>53925586
>>53925664
This magic generates a significant amount of ionizing radiation when used. This is to the benefit of the cockroach people.
>>
>>53925846
much like their god, who is unhealthy paranoid and does not get along with the other gods.

as a result, many races have declared elves to be untrustworthy for their paranoia and searching for plots against them where none exist.
>>
>>53925799
>>53925822

There's no reason we can't have both. What is it that's killing off the gods? Insane and short-lived god-hunting humans, unfathomably ancient eldritch automatons from a previous universe, or random disintegration?
>>
>>53925876
the gods suspect a murderer in their midst, and ironically the elven God know for his paranoia and hatred of the other gods is the only one with an alibi for each murder.

This has bred an arrogance and extreme competitiveness in the elves.
Each believes that he or she is the pinnacle of their species and they all seek to prove it.
Shattering an elf's ego is noted to be sometimes fatal to the individual in question.
>>
>>53925876
>>53925781

Ahah! lets tie these two together then!

gods are quite numerous, however something is killing them off, and humans are working with whatever it is. Some gods have already died, and others may follow suit, while others are wounded.

The human god has gone into hiding, and is currently the top priority of the other gods, who believe it should be killed, if the human god indeed does exist.

Their god is Ninnib, The Isolated. The elves like to think Ninnib is a masterful craftsman who disdains company, but in reality he's autistic and can't handle being in the presence of strangers, to fight his crippling loneliness, Ninnib creates strange monsters and powerful artifacts and releases them into the world. He likes cute animals.

Elves' combined ego and bad luck particularly apply to mages.
While all elves are capable of using magic, they're too powerful for their own good and thus very few ever dare to. Except in dire situations in which they will unleash all their magical energy in a single wild blast, typically killing everyone except who it was aimed at.
Mages are exceptionally rare, as they refuse to train one another and most die from the shame of failing their first spell. More die later from spell mishaps. The only elf who survived regular magic use for one year died while trying to one up a human mage's spell only for it to manifest in the wrong color, one that the elf thought was an inferior hue. The elf lost composure within seconds after the spell and was ripped to shreds by it's own magical energies, much to the horror of the human.

However, gunpowder is a commodity on the level of gold, and is treated as such. Because of the mercantile indiffirent nature of dwarves, they will trade with humans resources, although this relationship is often bitter. the dwarves dont know what the humans use gunpowder for, and dont know how the guns and bullets are made, only that guns are shooty and gunpowder is highly valued.

Here's some quick lore that I thought up:
The discworld was created by a number of races including humanity to escape the death of the old universe. The different "gods" are simply highly advanced copies of important historical leaders of each race which have been bio engineered to live for thousands or hundreds of thousands of years without dying. Over the millennia of their voyage to a new universe they slowly started going insane and took control of different parts of the discworld in the process stopping it from going any further. The reason the AI is supporting the humans is because it wants to finish it's mission of finding a new galaxy for all of the races to live. And the races were "created" after the insane gods tampered with the original species kept in stasis.

The AI may run everything, but has the intelligence of predictive text and autocorrect on your phone.

The magic is actually powered by converting the atoms in your body into pure energy which is then used for whatever you are doing. If you are a good mage, you will use part of your body which regenerate easily. However, through a lack of focus or inexperience, it is not uncommon for mages to expirience cancers and necrosis as side effects.

As a result the arthropods are relatively above average mages, as they have much more parts of their body which are considered "invital."

human mages also usually use their hair as fuel.

It is common to see mages with wild haircuts, anything in between an absolute birds nest, to mohawks, to near bald with hair designs.

elven magic is too powerful for its own good. It is perticularly extremely hard for them to siphon the conversion properly, as elves are rather goal oriented creatures. This means that they will often overcompensate, in which case this overcompensation is payed in blood, and a combination of their elven luck and now likely brainless corpse ensures whatever they did doesnt succeed.

the rips in spacetimes were already expounded apon as causing cancer in the body as a side effect, I was extrapolating thay the cost of the magic is the body, and that random atoms being popped from existance might cause more than cancer, and also how one could exploit this cost.

Half-Elves, while exceedingly rare due to the elves own ego, paranoia, and hatred for mankind, do exist in small numbers.

when raised by elves, they suffer all of the drawbacks of elves with a penalty to their benefits, almost all are killed at childbirth as a result.

an even smaller amount of these already rare creatures are raised under human care. they typically do not share the same level of ego as full blooded elves (although they are still rather egocentric), and none of the bad luck. this seemingly comes at the cost of roughly half of the benefits a full blooded elf enjoys, but this allows them to practice in magic using their smaller, but still rather large and powerful magical reserve.

most of these half-elves under human care are typically given a merciful death, as they are not welcome in this world by their god and suffer from extreme sickness and need constant care in their childhood.

the same can not be said for half-dwarves, who if they do even exist, are a well kept secret by the dwarves.

dwarven armour is unique to each and every single dwarf, with no set of armour alike.

they are however, typically covered with clan markers, the name of the dwarf, their history, and occupation. one can learn everything to know about a dwarf by studying his armour.

this individual however has committed a serious crime, and was thus banished with his armour totally scrubbed of all markings. he has no name, history, occupation, family, or clan.

Dwarves have a complex pictographic writing system, which is not unlike heiroglyphics. These works are often beautiful, but rarely vary much besides clan claims due to their purist uncreative nature.

Learning dwarven is considered an extremely valuble skill between other species, as the language is so ingraned in their history and their culture, and changes so little, that it is the most effective "standard" between all other writing systems.

dwarves are extremely rigid in their conversation, often using brief sentences, no transition words, no conjunction, no contractions, and very little emotion used in their speech.

Okay, heres my idea for the established races:

Bugpeople: magic and art oriented, worship a perfectionist god, krktktsk.

Elves: Ninja/berserker melee oriented, worship an autistic self-sufficient androgynous god, ninnib.

Dwarves: traditional stoneheaded, stone jawed, stone footed, stone mouthed neaderthals with a really good hand. If anything could be described as a tank in this world, it would be them.
worship a traditional stubborn god, ???

Humans: Expert marksmen and tacticians? prefer to keep conflict distant, and when they do strike it is swift and fierce, before dipping back into the brush. They rumor of a god who favors humans, but if this is true, they have not shown their face. Human luck could certainly be confused/supposed to be devine intervention, however. They also built/ were mothered by
/ were resurrected/ were brought back by mama robot, who just so happens to kinda run whats still functioning of the disc world. If there was a human god he would be flattered by the based waifu they built him.

mech ferrets: ???.?.??.?.?.?.?.?

The graffiti dwarves are really into tags. Any enslaved creatures (Barring the intelligent and loyal, also generally not seen by outsiders, kobolds) are branded and painted with the symbols and images of it's owned clan. Wealthy clans are known to use glowing pigments on important animals, as well as labeling them with the owner's personal symbols.

>>53926129
>>53926145

And just to summarize dwarves/underground so far
>Live in the underground, a network of urbanesque alleys and tunnels. Filled with dangerous life forms
>Domesticated slave kobolds, who hide in the shadows when around outsiders so nobody knows what they look like (Dwarves won't say)
>Dwarves make graffiti to mark territory, which is very complex and artistic, but look similar due to uncreativity. They also mark their armor and slaves/pets
>Dwarven graffiti is often chipped with scratches when unobserved, the kobolds whisper about gaunt looking tunnel worms but provide no unified description/drawings. The dwarves disprove
>Dwarves do allow their kobold slaves to hide from outsiders and keep their form a secret
>Dwarven writing is nearly static and very elaborate, making a great standard language
>Dwarves use a lot of minerals in their food
>Dwarves speak in rough sentences without emotion, making them seem dimmer than they are

Did I miss anything? I'm kinda liking these dwarves.

Mech ferrets are at constant war with the often malfunctioning robots. The robots see them as sort of necromancers who take their dead bodies and reanimate them.
Mech ferrets are fine with this and tend to use terror as a weapon, being brutal combatants as each ferret needs to be killed. If the mech body is too damaged they can come out and either run or swarm enemies.

The ferret mechs are widely considered the most warlike race, having some degree of hatred or violent instinct to the other sentient creatures.
Humans are their ancestral enemy, the robots fear them as their equivalent to necromancers. The bug races have many stories of great heroes who met their end to a ferret mech they thought was defeated only to be swarmed by the still living crew and eaten alive. Undead worry that the ferrets might turn their hunger on them and try to avoid them as much as possible. Dwarves avoid them for the most part as they've stolen their armor to use in their mechs before, as well as their kobolds have an intense fear of them.

Ferret mechs are mastered of terror tactics. Most mechs are equipped with napalm sprayers as a side arm, and when geared for war their weaponry tends to kill slow and painfully. As a saving grace they are unable to use magic in any form. Though they do use their small size when alone and outside of a mech to plant explosives behind enemy lines, its become such a problem that the bugs are developing ways to transport water without pipes and have made vents too small for them to crawl in illegal.
>>
Ferret Mechs can assume a really cute form to allure people and then ambush them.

This form seem to vary depending on the race ambushed, but is usually a really attractive female version of the race.

Some Ferrets are so advanced that to try their prey they can do a complete sex performance to tire out the victim to then kill him when they least expect it.

Some adventurers go questing to find these ambushing ferrets, because they think that the sex is incredible, to then stay prepared and live to tell the tale.

Can we not many more races for now?
So far we got:
- Humans - renaissance age tech but gunpowder is expensive as Hell, enjoy the protection of the AI Progenitor Sol, known colloquially as "Mother", on their disk world. Politically divided into warring city states.
- Dwarves - live in the tunnels of the underworld, keep kobolds as slaves but no one knows what they look like, tech from the golden age but they can only maintain it, not make more. Their culture is centered around tagging and graffiti, with every dwarf having a custom suit for venturing into the outside world
>Elves - Pricks with a massive ego but extremely bad luck, serve a god that shuns the outside world. These guys need to be fleshed out.
>Bugs - Perfectionists that live on massive mobile hives that only stop once per year, to pick up eggs from their queen. Hate humans for oppressing them in mass pogroms until they evolved. Again, need fleshing out.
>Mecha-ferrets - Once human slaves, live on mecha colonies made from deceased robots. Specialize in terror tactics. Also need some fleshing out.
>Undead - Resurrected bodies in areas of high magic. Highly reclusive, keep their original personality. Same problem as the others.

Let's focus on the bugs next. What is their culture like? Do they use bio-tech, radiation-based guns? What are the actual races that make up the species as a whole, and what ties them to the queen?

Elves, as a consequence of their lifespans, lack the human's edge for innovation. As creative as they may be in their words and their art they struggle to produce much in the way of actual, convincing novelty. They expect that which is traditionally successful to generally work "once more", and in combination with their general innate competence they are not only poor at adapting but disinclined to do so. All Elves have distinct patterns, and all Elves are predictable in their own way, both in groups and as individuals. Not that Elves aren't subject to change or chaotic behavior, but such things are seldom creatively driven.

Undead Magic is way more powerful than the other races, but that comes at a cost, because they cannot normally regenerate the lost tissue of their body, so they instead try to use other items to prevent most of the mass lost, some evil undead use living being for that, also to regenerate lost mass caused by magic.

The powerful effect of their magic only happens if they use ONLY their body atoms to cast magic.

The Swarm Lines circle the diskworld, consuming almost everything in it's path. It has become a prophetic event for every society to have the train pass, as it is a bringer of destruction.

It is so massive that it takes days for it to pass by, with arthropodes jumping/flying off, attacking whatever living things they can and jumping/flying back into their gigantic hive train.
The train is an immense, hideous thing, a huge, long castle/city on wheels.
The train tracks are equaly huge, one could take them to a great castle wall, with kilometer between one track and the other. The tracks are made of an unknown material and nobody ever managed to damage it.

The outside of the tracks is sometimes haunted by remnants of the arthropodes that were left behind by the train and the inside of the tracks is a mad wildland filled with feral arthropede subspecies.
Due to the hight of the tracks, the feral arthropodes on the inside rarely pass into the outside, but adventurers sometimes climb the tracks and venture inside these wilderness in search of relics or just to hunt rare beasts.

It takes years for the train to circle the around the Diskworld, giving time for life to recover and grow until the next Harvest takes place.
Once a year the train stops and which brings doom to whatever region it happens to be at the time. Entire kingdoms have been destroyed by becoming the unwilling host of the Swarm Train.

Just to set it in stone now, the massive train, which of course takes decades to pass around the alderson disc, Is more along the lines of a moveing fortress. The entire thing like a massive spear, but indescribable. fortress moves slowly through inconceivable discreet mechanisms, which spin the ship in inconceivable directions.

Most believe krktktsk lives in this massive living fortress of steel like waxes and living magic, although most can not be certain. The bugs on this fortress do not allow outsiders in, even other hives, as this train is meant to pass on the orders of krktktsk with minimal risk to their god.
The queen of bees also resides here.

Perhaps it is a perpetual spacetime anomaly, and no one actually knows how to get in? Id imagine if something was spatially screwed up enough, it would be impossible to invade such a structure...

Would it be powered by inconceivable ammounts of mage workers, who spend their souls in service of their god?

Got about halfway down this massive page, bits from what I remember maybe from lower. I stopped right at the first mention of undead if anyone else wants to do some typing.
Sorry if its not well written but I'm not a writer and I'm trying to just catalog everything.

If nobody feels like commenting with more info from the thread (Add it here first) its cool, I'll finish it later today. It took two freaking hours to do just half this wondrous monstrosity after all.

Great work so far.

OP here,

Once im actually awake enough to think good, Ill update this document with the rest of the information in this thread and repost it, probably in another thread should this one 404.

Again, nice job!

My dude, this is good.

I am trying to make a cool drawing of the disk/rig world from space but I am not grasping the scale of the thing.
If any science savvy fag could give me some hints I would be happiest doggo.

How big is the star and the world itself?
Are they HUGE like the ones in Larry Niven's book series Ringworld? Or are they smaller?
I think they must be small since it was mentioned that the Swarm Train takes a few decades to go around it and it moves "slowly". Would the star be a dwarf star?

Are the Rainbow Roads that lead to the outer (inner?) Space Stations visible from space?
Are they visible from the other side of the star?
Hell, is the disk/ring world visible from the other side of the star? You know, a planet from far away looks like a star, would the world look like a shiny line on the other side of the star?

How does night and day work, do plates on an inner ring pass between the star and the world or does it have another kind of machanism?

Oh, and since the world spin is speeding up and the days getting shorter, is "gravity" also increasing? Or is gravity in this world generated through other means instead of centrifugal force? Downforce?
Or is the world a Torus with a perpetually dark side? Would a torus' gravity even work like that, to keep the atmosphere and stuff in place?

Sorry if these were clarified previously.

Y'know, the more I learn about these bugs themore I want them to be something like Hollow Knight in form. Some are kinda humanoid, while some are more insecty.

And the megatrain they're in would make a sick-ass level in Hollow Knight.
>>
>>53945550
I'd say go with ringworld since its probably the best we're gonna get for size and star comparisons. Think there was something about the star like it was red or something but I haven't read the entire thread yet.

Rainbow road would be visible to space, yeah. Its sort of like multiple little frays that come off the disk where you board the space elevator esque trams that slide out to the outer ring, the more road like part that connects the space stations and locked down ships.

The disc wobbles, so its day when one side is tilted up to get more light and night when it wobbles back down. So day/nights sort of circle around the disc, the wobbles have been getting ever so slightly faster over history so days are getting shorter over large amounts of time.

Gravity I imagine is part of Progenitor Sol's functions, she does has the most direct input with the world and dedicates most of her energy to maintaining it.

Think thats all mostly accurate, and if its not by law of the thread its either cannon or invalid from it's correction.

>ring world size
Oh boy, I don't know about that.
The Ringworld was HUGE, like, REALLY HUGE. TOO MUCH HUGE.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sR2296df-bc
You can excuse the Swarm Train taking only a few decades to go around it intead of hundreds of years by Krktktsk bending space somehow to make the trip faster, but a thing this size wobbling and speeding up ... I don't know, this sounds too unstable. Progenitor Sol would come up with a more elegant solution for day and night I presume.

Besides, if it is this huge the space stations and ships anchored to it would be invisible from far space.

Now, if Progenitor Sol keeps the "gravity" on herself, I assume that it is Downforce then, some kind of artificial gravity.

Havent gotten through the whole thread yet, but why is no one going with this?! An entire race of rodents, cunning and agile, who are true artisans with mechanical constructions. Half the size and strength of humans, they rely on their mechanized armors to work for them and as a result have superior engineering and piloting abilities. Magic is used for construction when their stature fails them. Im thinking kinda like a technomancer Rocket Racoon that has a loader suit instead of exolosives

>On the other side of the Track Wall there's a ruined city
>The party is staying at an inn in a town close to the Track Wall
>They hear that a local archeologist is paying a small fortune for anyone who is willing to climb the Track Wall and retrieve an artifact from a ruined city that lies on the inner track wilderness.
>While the party in venturing through the inner part of the Track Walls the grounds starts to shake, a deafening noise is heard getting closer and closer and then darkness.
>The Swarm Train is above them, it will take days for it to pass and the bugs are pouring left and right

It would be a shitty situation to be in

Bump of: what are some common classes or jobs that are seen? Either actual professions or tabletop classes that people can be categorized into?

Most mages can't really act like wizards as it kills them to use magic, and weaponry seems diverse.
>>
>>53954591
mages are more akin to support classes with some possiblity for major damage if they're willing to take some self-inflicted damage as well.

party buffs and debuffs, as well as stuns and dispells, are far less taxing on the body than stuff such as fireballs or shooting lightning out of your hands. They can cast them, but only at a grave cost to themselves.

classes from what I see:

magic classes

>Healer (helps teammates at expense of self)
>Support (buffs teammates at expense of self)
>Necromancer (Produces minions at expense of self, minions
>Siphoner (heals or buffs teammates at expense of others)
>Pinner (debuffs opponents at expense of self)

Fighter classes
>Berserker (engages multiple enemies, massive damage, not evasive, not defencive
>Ninja (engages single targets, high priority damage, high evasiveness, not defencive)
>Juggernaut (breaks enemy frontlines, highly defencive. Not evasive. Good engagement.)
>Tank (defends one or more backline teammates. Not evasive. Massive defence. Little offence capability.)
>Duelist (High priority damage. Separates individuals from their own team. Somewhat evasive and tanky, but decent enough damage to keep up. Ineffective around multiple people.)

Marksman classes
>Archerer (high priority damage, and good damage output over time. not evasive or tanky, must be protected or have high ground.)
>Gunslinger (Massive single target damage and extremely good engage. Once they go in, they cant go out though. Expected to have multiple engage teammates.
>Sniper (Insane single target damage. Insane range. What defence? What evasiveness? Snipers take forever to reload, and specialize in finishing enemies.)
>Poisoner (uses needler. highly evasive, but low defence. focuses on applying debuffs to the enemy team.)

These are my main ideas given the parameters of the world.
