Say it's just the tail end of winter, the first flowers are starting to bloom in your neck of the woods. What flowers would your character want to receive?

If someone brought them something that they didn't realize had a dire meaning, how would they react?

>>

>what flowers would your character want to receive
It depends on who gives them the flowers and why they do it.

>if someone brought them something that they didn't realize had a dire meaning, how would they react
Assuming you mean the giver is ignorant but my character knows, it depends on how plausible their ignorance seems. If they're known to be fucking dumb, it's no big thing. If they're known to be shrewd, my character takes offense at the likely intentional slight.
If you mean my charater is ignorant of the dire meaning, then they react based upon the same information in Answer 1. Who gave them, and why?

KD is pretty heavy on objectification of women in the art. They're still powerful, but where men get full suits of armor, women get bikinis and bodies that you'd expect on a porn star that's had cosmetic surgery done, not survivors.

Considering the Paizo tends to act like nazis about preserving their "image" and trying to be the least offensive as possible (late Paizo that is. I miss Old Paizo when the writers would try to get away with anything), I just can't see them wanting to collab with something as "problematic" and plainly fetishistic as KD

Beast Rider:
A beast rider cannot choose a mount that is not capable of bearing his weight, that has fewer than four legs, or that has a fly speed.

Already ran into this issue when trying to make a Griffin Knight a while back.

Easiest way by far to get a flying mount is Leadership, and DM hasn't said anything about banning it yet.

Even if he does, maybe I can sweet talk him into it for the character. A level 8 flying mount isn't too bad, considering most characters that can fly tend to do so around that level anyways.

Of course, this is just one character idea. I could also play an outlander, or just a general barbarian type.

Noriel.jpg
7MB, 3000x4000px
As requested, here's Noriel.

First off, content/mechanical notes:

1. Unless I've been misinformed, there are no gnolls in Mendev; in order to get there they'd have to travel across all of Avistan, only to arrive in the most hostile and vigilante nation on the planet. It just won't happen. Lamashtu worship is actually almost entirely non-existant in Mendev and the surround areas, you'd be far better off using cultists of Baphomet to keep the bestial breeding angle; or Pazuzu, if you want to explain the wings.

2. Why Fighter? Slayer or Ranger would both provide the same benefits, while supporting your Skills far, far better.

Now digging into the meat of the app...

1. Your backstory fails to explain who this person is. It's a criticism I come back to over and over, but it seems to be eternally relevant. The story you've written is just a collection of events that happen to your PC, and doesn't really reveal anything about her. Speaking as both a player and GM, I really don't care about a cut and dried backstory; the events themselves are rarely interesting, since its obvious how it ends. What is interesting is how the character reacts and interacts with the events. Don't just tell us what happened to her, take the opportunity to demonstrate her personality, quirks, and foibles. The closest we get is in one of the closing paragraphs where it talks about "going back to her roots" which might be a decent moment of development, if we knew anything at all about how she feels about being a young Elf all alone in the middle of a human land, then that moment could be cool. However, we don't...

2. She grew vestigial purple-feathered wings? Really? Really. That--that's what you're going with? Okay. I don't have much else to say, other than to point out how ridiculous and Sue-ish that is.
>>
>>53918449

3.
>I'm naive and nice because I need some sort of flaw that lets me still be a perfect waifu!
>But I'm also mean sometimes!

I've seen this exact personality more than a dozen times, and I like it less and less each time.

A primary flaw should be something your character struggles against, that spreads out and infects every action they take. It should be something that breeds conflict. Being too nice doesn't fit that mold, and is usually beneficial, unless the GM actively tries to fuck with you.

On the flip side of the coin, you've got the extremism which isn't terrible; although cliche given the setup. However it seems to conflict with everything else you've written about her. Is she compassionate and naive? Or is she brutal and bitter? If the choice comes to save innocents or to kill demons, which one takes precedence? Given how you've written her, she wholeheartedly wants to do both, which doesn't really mesh into a cohesive portrait.

Now as for my suggestions...

1. Ditch the naivete in the current character. She may occasionally misunderstand human culture or misinterpret a motive, but she's had plenty of time to adjust, and is a trained soldier. Let her act like one.

2. Play up the extremism. Her family was murdered and she was exposed to weeks of the worst the Abyss had to offer. That's gotta leave some deep and lasting scars, beyond just not liking demons. Don't be afraid to embrace the Harbinger flavor and make her legitimately scary.

3. Play up the naivete at the beginning of the piece. Provide a contrast between the person she was before and the person is now. Possibly have her desire to recapture her previous mindset, force the compassion and openness into conflict with the lengths she'll go to, and the pain that causes her. Noriel can't go back to being the girl she was before, but perhaps the bloody path she's currently on also feels wrong; maybe she's searching for another option.

Also, the art is pretty bad.

You have one less spell slot per level, as well as being limited to only one domain.

In exchange, you get bonus feats to make you more a more capable martial combatant, as well as being able to cast group healing/buff spells to everyone within touch range of you at 8th level, at the expense of a higher level slot.

It's not bad if you're playing a buff-focused Cleric, and you mass-cast stuff like Bull's Strength or Owl's Wisdom on your party... but it's not that much of an improvement.

Hey /pfg/, wanted to get your opinion on something.

For the Path of War archetypes like Primal Disciple and Myrmidon: Is there any reason why I shouldn't give them full maneuver progression in a game with other full maneuver classes? They don't particularly outshine the main classes in any way with their other class features besides maybe Stalker, but Stalker needs some love too.

>>53918956
Which table for maneuvers and stances known are you going to give them?
>>
>>53918956
Give them full progression.
The two main reasons the archetypes don't have it is:
1) Protecting the identity of full initiators
2) Not making the archetypes too huge of an upgrade for what they trade out

Elric also homeruled that archetypes get warder maneuver progression in his home games (Not an official DSP rule, just a homerule a dev uses)
>>
>>53918988

Still not any better than a Warder, Zealot, arguably Harbinger and Warlord. Only person it might beat out is the Stalker.

Mutation Warrior Myrmidon is the only edge case I can agree on that with, but you'll still burn a lot of feats on Advanced Study at higher levels unless you want to fall behind.

After having read Paizo's Android race and being throughly disgusted at how it locks you into a single non-personality and is boring as sin mechanically with just being a laundry list of +4s and immunities, I decided to make my own fantasy-robot race.
Target was the 10-15 RP range, not that RP really means anything. "Balanced against commonly played races", I guess.
Do note that the Archetypes page is basically a non-entity and should be ignored right now.

>Which table for maneuvers and stances known are you going to give them?

I was thinking Stalker for Monk, Ranger, Bard and Rogue

Warlord for Fighter and Barb

And Warder for Knight Disciple

No one else has expressed interest in any of the other archtypes so that's all I have so far. Also as a side note, another option would be to keep the normal gimped maneuver progress and just let them chose their new ones as if they were a full initiator.

-2 Int but +2 wis should be swapped around. Wis is a more 'experience and street smarts' while Int is more 'encyclopedia knowledge' The +2 strength is fine, but I think I would have gone with con. Could go either way.

Integrated weapons/armor series is pretty great. Really gets my mind spinning.

Perpetual motion is something that's never going to see much play; Labor of Love will probably be a better option 99% of the time, and even then...

You could probably scrap both Labor of Love and Perpetual motion.

Is that sorcerer FCB pretty strong or is that just me?

Adamant Defense should have a mention if you already have DR (Such as, if you're already a barbarian).

Steel sage got kinda wonky in formatting at the end, so I haven't grokked through it.

I also like the Medic, to be quite honest. It does the "healer" role pretty dang well in my opinion, and seems to be workable.

One idea I do want to toy with is a proper "gish" that combines maneuvers and some other form of magic. An Arcane/Initiator, Divine/Initiator, Psychic/Initiator, and a Psionic/Initiator too. Have them be PROPER combinations, that actually connect the spellcasting and initiating so that they play well together. Don't get me wrong, Polymath and Warpath follower are nice, but to me that feels more like tacking maneuvers on TOP of a class that has spellcasting rather than figuring out how to make them work well together.

Potentially, I'll throw some ideas out there. It's a stupid idea but I want to try it anyways just to see if I could make it work somehow

It wasn't obvious since I haven't written the fluff yet, but I was going for "Excellent self-awareness (they literally know how they work and think) but slow to adapt". The slow to adapt is echoed in the Slow Starter trait.

>Perpetual motion is something that's never going to see much play; Labor of Love will probably be a better option 99% of the time, and even then...
Yeah, they're deliberately traits that are mostly for flavor with little real use. If anything was on the cutting block, they'd be first to go.

>Is that sorcerer FCB pretty strong or is that just me?
I based it off the "extra spell know of max level -1" FCB the sorc gets from various races. I personally think that getting twice as many extra spells is compensated for by the much lower level of the spells, but it is strictly better at 4th and 5th level.

Will tweak Adamant Defense to mention DR stacking. I THINK it already is covered by the wording of the class feature it emulates, but never hurts to double-warn the player.

Steel Sage is blatantly unfinished. I'm intending to have at least three racial archetypes, but they're slated mainly for after everything else gets finalized.

Thanks for the help!

You know, I've been wanting to play a tanuki (or at least a shapeshifter) character ever since I heard a cool line in a cool song sung by a tanuki. "One in a million I may be, yes, but I'm also a million in one!"

One the surface, the line is obviously referencing a shapeshifter's ability to be anybody they want, hence a "million in one" but so casually stated is the "one in a million" part that it's almost easy to miss the implication of that. It's such a common stereotype among shapeshifters that they lack a true form of their own, or can't recall their true form, and ironically this lack of an identifiable self image can translate into a lack of self-confidence. But the brazen declaration of being a million in one is to boldly declare the confidence in have in yourself. It's representative of a shapeshifter who has found their true self- not simply their true body, for a real shapeshifter is as comfortable and at home in anybody else's form as their own, but the true core of their personality. It's a self-assurance that comes from being able to wear any form perfectly while still remembering who you are... A million forms in one, yet at the same time boasting of being one in a million because you know you're more than just the form you assume. In other words, it's the shapeshifter who changes form because they can, not because they must.

Anyway, the point is that shapeshifters usually have self-esteem problems or some other kinds of issues, and seeing ones that don't is refreshing to me. I don't want to project on your character, but I'd love the chance to play a shapeshifter of my own some day. The question is... Would it be more fun to play one who has yet to develop into themselves, and try to do it during a campaign, or to take one that already knows who they are and be able to have fun with the idea from the start? It's not like the latter locks you out of any future character development, so I lean that way.
>>
>>53920390
I want Franze to step on me!
>>
>>53920591
It could simply be not that they're comfortable in anyone else's form, but the fact that they don't need their form to be comfortable with 'themselves'

Like a lot of people's self-esteem is heavily predicated on their body. Like if someone gets seriously scarred it could affect them in more ways than physical, and its basically the underlying issue of gender dysphoria.

But to just be 'you' regardless of your body, as fine with being a normal person, or an oversexualized parody, or some big ol' monster.

This is the sort of confidence that would become more of a thing if/when easier body-modification becomes available. It's one thing to be able to easily become what you see as 'the real you', but it's quite another to realize that 'the real you' was already there, and always will be.
>>
>>53920591
Why not both? When I played her I played that she had become a shapeshifter spontaniously, like how tanuki usually gain that power in japanese lore. So she really, really wanted to eat all the tasty food from a bowl and table instead of out of the garbage, so thats what happened.

Eventually got trained by a monk who wanted to teach her how to do the do properly. But the thing with natural fey or kami shapeshifters like her, they get it into their minds that humans and other regular mortal races are silly or dense or just sad for the most part, so for the most part shapeshifting like that is just for kicks to mess with the stupid mortals, or to get a good drink or something.

So its a big thing of not trying to be something you are not, but to be comfortable with who you are, so then you don't even really care what you become because its all just a big joke anyways.

Or being a character that had not figured that out (yet) can always be fun too, maybe a young tanuki, or one that was given shapeshifting powers by a crazy asian druid tripping off mushrooms or something. They would not have much of a reason to shapeshift, and maybe not much control?

The good thing about shapeshifting types though is that they can always revert back to their base forms if you get hit with a polymorph effect. So I guess thats a plus.

(Non-nsfw and non-magical realm campaign)

How would you guys put a slave PC in leading position (doing the talking, acting, etc) when the said pc is traveling with the master npc?
Assuming that pc is not actively plotting to run away or kill the master for now.
>>
So we all know that healing kind of sucks in PF, but here's something I wanted to ask you guys to see if this could help "fix" it: changing the amount healed from the various Cure spells from dice rolls+level bonus to % amount+level bonus, with the max healed from the spell changed to be more like the amount of doubles you can get with Mirror Image?

Doing it like this would make the various cure spells a bit more consistent as well as just more useful overall, especially at higher levels.
I'm thinking Cure Light could do 1/8th your max HP, with a max of 13 points healed, Cure Mod could do 1/4th with a max of 26, cure serious doing 1/3rd with a max of 43, critical doing half with a max of 52, and Breath of Life doing 2/3rds with a max of 65 plus all the other benefits that spell grants since it's 5th level.
>>
>>53920876
It would make it weaker in general, honestly. At low levels, it'd be damn near useless due to small HP maxima, at higher levels it'd be decent but then you're already hitting rocket tag territory. And once you get Heal, you're generally topping health anyways, so who cares?
>>
>>53920843
There's also combat engineer, but it makes you lose bombs which defeats the point.

I think the best thing you can do is to take hedgewitch secret and then take combat tradition and maybe a few other traditions.
>>
>>53920872
Make the slave PC well educated and well cared for. This works especially if the master is a stranger in a strange land and the slave is local.
>>
>>53920876
Speaking of healing, I actually do have a proposed fix.

Make all the cure spells (but NOT Heal), have a move action cast time instead of a standard action. That way they'd not be "waste time healing instead of contributing" but would still require spell slots.

Thoughts?

>>
>>53920931
It still won't be able to keep up with damage as it pours in and since it's a move action it still costs you your full attack action. The best way to heal in pathfinder is to get out of combat so action economy becomes fully moot and the best way to do that is to full attack until dead unless the wizard can magic your party out of the encounter.
>>
>>53920946
Rename all the stuff you stole from Golarian. I doubt your players would actually care if they bothered to notice after the fact.
>>
>>53920956
>I can see your point when it comes to Cure Light at the very least, maybe we can keep that how it is with the d8+lvl, max +5 and change the rest?
I think "XdY+Z or W% of max HP, whichever is greater" would be the best way.

>Also an option, and would mesh well I think with how the Paladin does things, though maybe make it similar to LoH where you can do it faster when it's on yourself?
LoH is fast since it's supposed to be for a durable frontline class. LoH also doesn't provoke AOOs. Fast self-healing would be great for warpriests, but at the same time it'd be a giant risk since you might take more from AOOs than you healed yourself.

>>53920982
Yeah, that's a big drawback still. It'd play great with casting another spell, though. I personally like the idea of making clerics less "melee" and more "casty".
>>
>>53920935
>Bladecaster
Kind of mediocre, as there's no way to enter it single-classed. I believe there was some shenanigans-build of Magus 2/Harbinger 1/Bladecaster 10 or something that could make use of it really well but don't quote me on that.

>Battle Templar
Initially it was kind of weak but with Warpath Inquisitor being a thing I can see it being more used.

What I really want are proper combinations of classes. I want 6th-level casting and initiating that actually interacts with each other.
>>
>>53921002
It complicates the healing spells a bit, but it does so in a way that I think is for the better. Nobody likes being healed with a Cure Light and only healing 2 damage, at least this way it raises the floor even if it doesn't do anything to the ceiling for each spell.
>>
>>53920984
That's true. I'm probably being needlessly paranoid.
>>
>>53920931

Healing being broken is just one of the many core fundamental system issues with PF. Fixing it basically requires a rewrite of the game.

You really need a system like Starfinder where there are multiple pools, hopefully it's easy to port backwards.
>>
>>53921149
Is healing "broken" in Pathfinder? It's definitely not a valid option in the middle of combat most of the time, but that's not really a terrible thing. To be a really effective combat healer you have to essentially spend your actions negating the actions of specifically damage oriented characters, which pretty much just means making combat take way longer and making players feel like shit when they spend a turn on their awesome attack and the next round someone erases all of their effort.
>>
>>53921211
That's why the correct implementation for healing is not "I spend my turn healing" but instead "I spend my turn doing fun thing. Oh, and I heal.". Making it a secondary focus that doesn't demand you stop attacking allows for healing to be meaningful without being absurdly prolonging.

DSP's Medic is the PERFECT healer from a design perspective.

I suppose this is a difference of perspective but as the guy who first brought this up I have been looking at this from the perspective of someone who takes the role of "buffs, support, and the occasional healing in combat to keep people from dying".

Your worry is that trying to make healing more viable would prevent your main melee from being able to do their thing, my POV doesn't even take them into account in the first place because they're not the ones doing the healing.

Well, the current problem my character has run into is that if he has a child he'll probably die. He's basically fused to an air elemental, something that's happened to his lineage going back super far. If he procreates the air elemental gets reincarnated fused with his child (it's not been explained *exactly* as reincarnation but it won't be exactly the same version of the elemental that my character had). Given that he's a sorcerer who's basically the sailor brat of a ship's cook it's amazing that he hasn't knocked someone up yet. Thing is, his mother's still alive and she was the last one to be fused with an elemental in his lineage, which means there is a way to avoid dying when you pass on the elemental connection to your offspring.

So, yeah. I'm busy trying to find a way to bang women without dying. And yes, butt stuff has been jokingly brought up as the standby until we find a workaround. Also, my air elemental doesn't really like the idea of me killing us by thinking with my dick so it's kinda doubly a dick move if I kill us by knocking someone up.

Howdy doo fellow Anons. Just an unimportant homebrewer here, and I was looking through the thread when I came upon this little post here>>53918579
So, I've now been inspired and would like to get started on it soon.

The only problem O have so far is I don't know too much about slime monsters or slime-people memes, so while O have some ideas for Oracle revelations, I'm sadly bereft of most ideas.

If I could pick your noodles for a bit, O would like to know what cool abilities a Slime Oracle should have.

Also, since many Oracles get power via cursed by god's, what Deities aside from Jubilex, Gozreh, Yog-Sothoth, and that one jellyfish Qlippoth Lord do you think would be associated with this Mystery?

Unfortunately, there's nothing around that'll let you play as that for your character. There is, however, a type of eidolon that's all about the gribbly stuff. Given it's CLEARLY not a normal eidolon, you can probably get away with making up all sorts of junk about how it came to be.

A build I've been meaning to do for a long while (I applied with it once, but wasn't selected) is a Spirit Summoner of the Dark Tapestry. Said build can pick up Alien Summons by level 6, giving your eidolon the advanced template (which, if I recall correctly, is the equivalent of 24 evolution points, and a few things evolutions can't mimic.) and immunity to crits.

The Guyver is a sort of bio-mechanical alien armor. technically in the Anime it exist in it's own pocket dimension when not in use but in the live action movie it exist inside of the body and comes out from the nape of the neck.

The point being though with something like synthesis summoner I could wear some abberrant monster as armor and that sounds rad as fuck.

I'm wanting to play a summoner except with the fluff being that the eidolon is a construct created by the character. I was thinking of just refluffing it and keeping all the mechanics the same but a lot of the eidolon mechanics seem awkward like the whole banishment and summoning thing. As far as refluffing goes I'm not really sure how to explain away the construct being banished when my character goes to sleep, though for the summoning mechanic I could just say it's some kind of battery replacement being done rather than an actual summoning. Any ideas?

Also slightly related but is there an archetype that gets rid of the summons and just focuses on the eidolon?

One thing to note that's odd with the Slimelord is that the table lists scaling acid resistance, improving to immunity at 10, but it's not listed in their class features. Instead, there's an Oozification that gives Acid Resist equal to 5 x your class level.

So I dunno what's up with that.

If you want to go even more wtf, consider that "Squole", the required race, chooses one element on creation, magma, ice or ooze, and gets elemental resistance as a race trait based on that.

Obviously, Ooze Squoles would be the choice for most that would want to become Slime Lords, but at the same time, they're the only one to effectively lose the benefit of one of their race traits, because they gain immunity instead. A Magma Squole would be immune to Acid *and* still have +5 Resistance to Fire.
>>
>>53924061
Wait, Squole?

Yeah, okay. I was referring to the Slimelord from Gonzo 2, by LRG Games.

http://spheresofpower.wikidot.com/slimelord

It's particularly good for alchemists, since they can apply bomb discoveries to their slimebombs.

Aside from that inconsistency Re: acid resistance/immunity, it's not bad.

There is a question about what happens to Oozifications that become irrelevant once you get Slime Brother, whether or not you get to swap them out for a new one, or if it just goes away, or in the case of that second one, if you get to remove some of the charisma check penalty you get from oozifications.

Aside from that though, good PrC.

>Armored Rider (Combat)
You gain a +1 trait bonus on Ride checks, and Ride is a class skill for you. You don’t take an armor check penalty on Ride checks while wearing light or medium armor.
>Beast Bond (Social)
You share a close bond with animals. You gain a +1 bonus on Handle Animal checks and Ride checks. One of these skills (your choice) is always a class skill for you.
>Friend to Animals (Race: Human)
You grew up in close proximity to animals and relate with them intuitively. You gain a +1 bonus on Handle Animal and Ride checks, and one of those skills (your choice) is always a class skill for you.
>Hongal Bloodrider (Region)
You belong to one of the nomadic groups of horseback riders that range throughout Hongal. You gain a +1 trait bonus on Handle Animal and Ride checks.
>Horse Lord (Race: Keleshite)
You grew up racing along the plains of Paresh, hoping to one day compete in the Histaqen. You gain a +2 trait bonus on Handle Animal checks, and a +1 trait bonus on Ride checks. This trait applies only to horses.
>Militia Veteran (Region)
Your first job was serving in a civilian militia in your hometown. The skills you learned through daily drilling and protecting your fellow townsfolk gave you special insight into military life. Select one of the following skills: Profession (soldier), Ride, or Survival. You gain a +1 trait bonus on checks with that skill, and it is always a class skill for you.
>>
I've been thinking. In Pathfinder, there's essentially three BAB progressions - Full, Medium, and Shit. And for unrelated reasons, I just figured out that Full BAB gains +1 BAB (duh) each level, Medium BAB gains +0,75 each level, and Shit BAB gains +0,5 each level - and it's always rounded down.

A Rogue or Cleric (Medium) essentially has 0,5 BAB at level 1, 1,5 BAB at level 2 and at level 3 they have 2,25 BAB, etc.

A Sorcerer or Wizard essentially has 0,5 at level 1, 1 at at level 2, and at level 3 they have 1,5, etc.

Wouldn't that have made a better rule, to actually state this plainly in the rules, rather than to show the BAB total for each class as if that's the only class you're going to ever advance in? And wouldn't that have made it easier to add things together intuitively when multiclassing?

After all, a Rogue 1/Wizard 1 should then have a combined BAB of 1,25, and with values rounded down as they are, it means that if he becomes a Rogue 2/Wizard 1, he'd have a BAB of 2,0, but as a Rogue 1/Wizard 2, he'd just have a total of 1,75. And so forth.

It would also allow slight tweaking to the system, such as having a Weapons Master Prestige Class that gains 1,25 (but perhaps only goes on for 5 levels) and such.

Or am I missing something incredibly relevant?

If you came to that conclusion on your own, I'm impressed; it's not something a lot of people would identify.

you are in fact correct. And it has in fact been quantified before. It's even ben expanded on with saving throws. Check it out, under the header "Fractional Base Bonuses"
http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/unchained-classes/
>>
>>53924607
Does Trait bonuses stack? I assume they don't, but the idea of a Beast Bond/Friend to Animals appeals to me, but the fact that you'd still get only +1 to Handle Animans and Ride checks grinds my gears.
>>
>>53924838
I'm sorry friend; trait bonuses don't stack with other trait bonuses.
>>
>>53924834
Oh, man, thanks a lot. I'm working on something where seeing the fractional bonuses of saving throwns could be relevant, and I hadn't even started thinking about it yet, and here you show up, serving it to me on a platter. Kudos.

It makes it a lot easier to add things together, and it's obvious that Paizo was aware of this (I mean.. how couldn't they have been?), and the presentation as-is is actually pretty unintuitive, especially for a system where you're likely to cross-class/multiclass/gestalt shenanigans.

Just saying "You gain 0,75 BAB per level from this class, rounded down" would've saved a lot of table space, and made things a lot easier for everyone involved, instead of trying to count everything together backwards when you're juggling several different classes with several different progressions.
>>
>>53924878
Eh, I'm reminded of when I showed something similar to Keledrath and he just told me the rules were sloppy. If you don't define everything, then there's holes, and holes are exploitable problems for a system. It's why legal documents are so long and thorough. And with a community so obsessed with rules as the Pathfinder crowd, that would have been disastrous.

No, you're making a mistake here.

"Handle Animal" is not animal empathy. If you want that, take Druid, or ranger, or hunter as your class. Get wild empathy as a class ability. Handle Animal, the skill, is knowing how to teach animals to do tricks and specific things. It is entirely unrelated to empathy, and your methods are undefined - you can just as easily be a good-hearted, beast bonded man as a cruel punisher; Handle Animal just defines how good you are at making an animal do things, not how much they like you.

Ride, meanwhile, has actually nothing to do with the treatment of the animal as well. It's how well you can stay in the saddle, and how well you can direct a mount to do what you want it to do.

Is mistreating animals a believable character trait? Sure! but it is in no way related to how many ranks you have in Handle Animal or Ride.
>>

Hm? I wasn't aware someone else decided to start doing reviews for WotR.

>No gnolls in Mendev
I'm not as intimately familiar with Golarion as some, but I don't think anything specifically says there's -none- there. Gnolls like to worship Lamashtu, Lamashtu is a demon lord, and Mendev is dealing with a demonic evasion. Even if gnolls -don't- normally live there, I could see some traveling there on a sort of pilgrimage, like a reverse of people coming from all across Avistan to help fight the demons.

>Backstory
For the most part I agree with what you're saying, but I don't think Noriel's player did anything glaringly wrong with how they wrote their backstory. They outline the details of the character's past, that's what a backstory does. There could be more details in there to help flesh her characters out a bit, as I mentioned in my review, but really the Personality blurb exists partly so you can get those details out without having to worry too much about stuffing it all into the backstory

>Wings
Okay, you've been fine thus far, but here you're being unfair. Having wings doesn't make a character a Mary Sue, there's dozens of feats that can give a character wings. If wings are enough to make you call a character a Mary Sue, you've either never really dealt with one, or you've dealt with so many that you have a hairline trigger. And don't get so condescending with that "Really? That--That's what you're going with" shit. You're not offering constructive criticism at that point, you're just being an ass.

>1/2
>>
>>53925289
>Personality
Now I feel you're misunderstanding what you should be doing in a critique; You're telling people how their characters should be, rather than just giving them suggestions. Instead of "well you say your character is X Y and Z, so I might suggest doing this and that to better facilitate it", you're saying "Your character shouldn't be X or Y because X and Y is stupid". A character can be nice sometimes and mean others, and in Noriel's case it makes sense. She's a normal person most of the time, but when she's confronted with gnolls or demons, she gets crueler and is willing to cross some moral thresholds to fight them. That's perfectly fine, hell it even makes sense. She was raped and used in a demonic ritual, but she survived, and thus has to move on. You can't just be brooding and hateful all the time; Even IRL, rape may be a huge thing that has a huge impact on you, but eventually you have to move on and just live your life. You can't just lie down and cry or be mad about it 24/7 for the rest of your life. But obviously, if you're confronted with something that reminds you of it, you're going to react poorly. That's the case with Noriel, it seems. It's not because she has to be a "perfect waifu", like you say. And I'd say that -is- a pretty big flaw, or do you not see how having a deep-seated hatred for anything demonic (or gnollish) could be a problem when your allies may include tieflings (or potentially gnolls).

>Also, the art is pretty bad
Why do you have to rag on the art? The player thinks it fits their character, so what's the problem? No GM worth playing with will just entirely dismiss an otherwise good player just because he doesn't like their art.

>So, it's OK to mistreat horses but be very good riding them?
Being bad at taking care of horses does not mean that they're mistreated. For example, as a Knight, I could be a supremely good rider, but leave the care to an entire crew of squires with supreme Animal Handling.

Likewise, a Ranger or a Druid can be extremely attuned to the needs and well-being of animals, capable of training them to perform amazing tricks and know all their names and what they need to eat, but may never have touched a set of rains.

Even if the druid probably would have no issue talking the bear into letting him ride him, it doesn't mean that he'd be able to steer the bear or ride him effectively, and even a helpful animal can only help you so much when you have no fucking clue what to do. You wouldn't be riding, you'd just be hanging on.
>>
>>53925227
>Is mistreating animals a believable character trait? Sure! but it is in no way related to how many ranks you have in Handle Animal or Ride.
Right. You being an awful person isn't really related to whether you know what the animal needs or not, or how to properly care for them. Most people that mistreat animals don't do it out of ignorance, but out of wastefulness, sloth, or lack of caring and/or empathy.

I could have Animal Care +40 and still kick dogs and feed the horses nails in their hay. But I never could because I'd feel horrible.

It's to justify the Harbinger level 9 class feature. Suddenly having flight out of the blue would be derp.
Having vestigial wings that become capable of flight later feels more continuous.

Does the term "family" apply when you have at least 30 siblings and growing? Is there a better term when you have such large family?
>>
>>53925339
Yes, and? With Eldritch Heritage, literally any race can have wings without issue. What's your point?
>>
>>53925628
It applies, but you could stand to use terms like "clan" or "house" at that point, just like you would for a large extended family. This is especially relevant if the "family" in question is one father with children by multiple wives.

Are there Dragonborn in Golarion?
Are there official rules for Dragonborn in Pathfinder?

Surely "Dragonborn" or variations thereof cannot be a WotC trademark? I'm feeling like there should be a good dragon-focused civilization with Dragonborns and Kobolds up the wazoo.

I'm not familiar with D&D Dragonborn, but the Wyvaran might be a closeish fit.

>Are there Dragonborn in Golarion?

Nope, the closest you'd get is a slightly edited Lizardfolk.
>>
>>53925651
Eheheheh. Looks like I accidentally reviewed someone's character...

>I don't think anything specifically says there's -none- there.

Gnolls are desert nomads from Katapesh, Osirion, Thuvia, etc. All places several thousand miles south and an ocean away. It's tantamount to saying a hyena could wander into Finland, technically possible, but I'll need evidence before believing you.

>Lamashtu is a demon lord

No, Lamashtu is a goddess, and being a goddess, she's above petty concerns like the World Wound. Her cult is very much not active in Mendev... however both the listed demon lords are *very* active. The point isn't that it's necessarily wrong (though the lore is against it), it's that it doesn't fit particularly well; and there are much, much better and more thematically appropriate options.

>They outline the details of the character's past, that's what a backstory does.

If you read what I wrote, you'd see I very much disagree with this statement.

>Having wings doesn't make a character a Mary Sue, there's dozens of feats that can give a character wings

You've utterly failed to grasp the nuance behind the statement. There's a difference between saying "this trait is similar in both theme and execution to what I'd see in a Sue" and "this character is a Sue."

Purple wings that suddenly appear, and have no effect on a character's life, or happiness, or anything, beyond making her look pretty, on a race/class which has no mechanical basis for it? That's exactly what I'd expect from a 13 year old after discovering Deviant Art for the first time.
>>
>>53926137
>>53925304

>And don't get so condescending
You must be incredibly new here.

>You're telling people how their characters should be, rather than just giving them suggestions
I point out what I perceive to be flaws, and then I give one specific path to fixing them. Don't think I've ever seen someone implement my ideas whole cloth, which is good! They're meant to be a jumping off point to get players thinking about their character in new ways, and how that character might be changed/improved. Ultimately, the change needs to come from the players, otherwise the character is inconsistent, but I'll do what I can to give them a push. If you don't like that style of critique, that's your prerogative. No one is making you read it.

> You can't just be brooding and hateful all the time
Once again, you've failed to understand what I've actually written.

>Why do you have to rag on the art? The player thinks it fits their character, so what's the problem?
Good art makes a character, bad art breaks it. One of the silliest parts of the backstory was shoehorned in to fit the art, and from my reading of it, there's nothing in the art which reflects this character. Unless I had an aneurysm and missed the part where Noriel learned that the true weakness of Gnolls is a purple spiked bikini and exactly 1 thigh-high boot.

Eldritch Scoundrel Hidden Blade Rogue can enter it single classed, actually.
Also, Magus 4/Harb 2/Bladecaster 10 has quite the burst potential, as you end up being able to more heavily invest in INT, which means more chaining spell combat into a Descending Sunset'ed Shocking Grasp, followed with a Zenith Shocking Grasp swift and a full attack for a fuckhuge burst of damage.

>The character is currently level 4

You know... This is just my suggestion, it's kind of wild and out there... But maybe, maybe, MAYBE, you could justify sprouting wings over the course of the AP?
>>
>>53926228

>Dark Wings: The harbinger gains a fly speed equal to her base land speed, with good maneuverability. This flight is supernatural in nature; though the harbinger may develop wings or another form of evident propulsion, she flies through supernatural acumen alone.

Sure?

There's still no mechanical reason for her to have wings at level 4. Much less for those wings to not be horrifically twisted (as befits a gift from Lamashtu) and for them to not land her in the Inquisition's shit list.
>>
>>53926268
>But maybe, maybe, MAYBE, you could justify sprouting wings over the course of the AP?
That would require coming up with two separate pieces of fitting artwork, with the character looking similar enough between the two pictures to pass for the same character.
I spent 6-7 hours on simply looking for art over multiple websites as is, as finding art for a magical archer ended up being much more difficult than I expected.
Heck, I DISLIKED the art I ended up using myself. I just didn't find anything better at all.

>>

That needs no backstory based justification, the class feature itself grants the justification. It also makes for some interesting IC possibilities when the power becomes manifest the first time (eg. talking to the DM beforehand so that the character is suddenly doubled over with pain at a dramatically appropriate time before the wings burst through her clothes).
>>
>>53926246
I totally forgot about ES/HB Rogue- but then you encounter the issue of having very few class features. Better hope you've got a 1/6th rogue talent FCB Race. On the other hand, you do get actual class features from being a Bladecaster. How does it compare to a Warpath Inquisitor entering into Battle Templar?

I'm a pretty huge autist when it comes to artwork tho. :V
I like when artwork fits just right.
When possible, I even like to change artwork for a character in response to major changes or give a single character multiple tokens that can be switched between to reflect mood or various forms.
However, all that usually requires a concept that is prolific with fitting art. This isn't such a concept, which my futile attempts at finding art showed me, which forced my hand.

>Replied to a random post
Whoops? Regardless, I was thinking of having them get roped into stopping a plot to kill an emperor, and possibly end up granted a noble house or something. Still in the brainstorming phase.
>>
>>53926350
For Warpath Inquisitor, you're basically locked into taking Golden Lion and a fitting weapon, but not much otherwise (You could light shield and IT if your DM rules you can cast like that, tho). Discipline Focus remains a solid feat even if just for the damage, and Martial Power's kind of a tax but it can still come in useful. Otherwise, you do get to progress Bane and a stronger maneuver progression, so you're good. You might want to delay one level so you get a stance at 9th level instead of 8th, tho.

Well that was pretty much my point, I think. It's pretty generic, and there's obviously others using it, and given that Dragonborn are pretty popular, it feels almost weird that they don't seem to be a part of Pathfinder.
