They're going to be invading a Forge World in the new Imperial Armour book, and there will be new mecha of course.

well everything is getting changed.
while things aren't going to be perfectly balanced. Heavier playtesting and writing all the rules together will ensure that there's a much smaller gap in power levels.

as for shooting, changes to wounding, armour, cover and general wounds inflation means that shooting will be less lethal and more consistent.
>>
>>53486923
Wouldn't be hurt by it either if that personality was just hinted at with things like "I think it hates us" and guesses that are just as wrong as they are right and the only bugs that really have personality and independent thought are the synapse. All the other ones just seem to mirror the closest synapse in personality.

As as long as it isn't clear, defined, or relatable but just hinted at vaguely. After all in Starship troopers the Brainbug felt fear after it was captured.

Agreed. To by honest at first I was kind of excited about Guilliman coming back but the execution has been fucking garbage so far.

The only way 40k could redeem itself at this point is if the Primaris Marines turn out to be 1/3rd Alpha Legion and there's a massive mutiny and Guilliman fucking dies, right as a much larger Tyranid Hive Fleet shows up and the Ynnari start slaughtering Imperial Worlds to feed their death god.

Monarch butterflies eat poison as larva and become venomous as adults. It would have been nice if Tyranids had incorporated radioactive Baalite sand into their carapaces and had gotten rad grenade rules of -1T when in contact with the enemy...but the Real Great Chaosdevourer ate them.
So long, nids.

Naw if anything needs were the shitty version of necrons.

Nids have a knowable motivation, to consume.

Necrons were inhuman and unknown. So ancient and primal they are the reason all life in the Galaxy fears skulls and skeletons.

Why are they waking up? Why are they stealing children and murdering?

They were honestly one of my favourite parts of the lore, something that reminded the audience that the universe was vast and cold with secrets predating man by eons.

The new fluff was a big reason why I quit 40k for years.

I don't mind overwatch so much (although I'd prefer it was a "You don't shoot if you overwatch, but you get x reward for being prepared" instead), but random charge is utterly dumb.
You can have your tactics right, and just get absolutely left standing there, dick hanging out, due to random chance. You've already got that with a pile of other rolls, you don't want to exacerbate it by being open to fire from everyone.

>The reason why we fear skulls is because they're inextricably linked to death and death is scary.
Legend says it was the Nightbringer's rampage that instilled the fear of death into the living, which is why people think of the dead like a black hooded scythe wielding monster, but that image was inspired from him and not the other way around. But it's said he was stopped before he could brutalize the orks, and that's why orks lack fear of death.
And then the humies are the ones who have the And They Shall Know No Fear rule while you have to beat D3 orks to keep them in line when facing lasguns.
Welcome to 40k, where rules are made up and nothing makes sense.

I wish people would stop calling it "noblebright".

There's nothing bright about the current state of the galaxy, or the 40K universe in general.

Also it's been covered like a dozen times now, the new 40K setting is BOTH Nobledark and Grimdark, since the galaxy is split in half.

They set it up like that. Then old Bobby Rowboated his way across the void to hand-deliver the shiny new Ultraultramarines to the blood angels.
>>
>>53487234
if any of the new fluff was grimdark pretty much all the main characters would be dead because they've been acting like retards and only plot armor keeps them alive.
>>
>>53487212
So death and skeletons didn't exist before necrons?
>>
how do you make a primaris marine?
>>
>>53487212
Literally every Faction in 40k is death. Space Marines are the Angels of Death. Orks bring war and death. Daemons bring disease, slaughter and death. Dark Eldar bring torture and then death. Tyranids bring the absolute death of entire planets to the point that they are never habitable again.

Necrons are like a 5-year-olds concept of a scary faction like "oooh, spooooky, they're about DEATH cuz they are SKELETONS" it's so bad it's fucking laughable.

Like which is a scarier movie, the original Alien, or The Mummy? Shit was so weak they let Ward retcon everything about the Necrons because the knew the faction as it existed was pointless.
>>
>>53487221
Not really. That's not really a goal, just a thing they do.

I might spray for a ants, but killing ants isn't my goal in life.

I read Lovecraft all the time. That's why I like Tyranids. Genestealer Cults are Lovecraftian as fuck. Moreso, a Hive Mind of unknowably ancient bio-horrors taking freakish insectile-alien shapes coming from the cold void beyond the furthest stars humanity has ever approached to devour everything we know, having already devoured more than we can ever know, preceded by a psychic aura of unspeakable monolithic immensity that makes prophets go mad, babbling about nightmarish visions of the apocalypse with billions of hungry alien mouths feeding on the red flesh of every person as they snuff out the light of all the stars in the galaxy? That's the most Lovecraftian thing there is.

Orks absolutely are afraid of death though- they are just literally too stupid (or sometimes too angry) to notice when death is upon them. A boy will run down an empty field right into the sights of a sign-in heavy weapons squad because the boy is just dumb enough to think that he'll actually make it into combat with that heavy weapon team and not get unceremoniously blown to pieces. And so he'll get unceremoniously blown to pieces. Not even entertaining the notion that you may die until it happens is not the same thing as courage. Marines know no fear because they expect death as an inevitably and when it comes, they jump to it with open arms.

Orks can be fearless and throw themselves at you careless of death, or they can run away like cowards. It depends on the collective mood of the horde, mostly what the Warboss is emitting. Generally if the Warboss dies they'll puss out and break. If he's knockin some gits and taking names then they'll swarm over your lines like Zerg. Orks are all psychically connected so this shit can change instantly.

That's really neat. The fact that the stomps are now a seperate weapon that just triples the attack volume is a clever solution. That said, I don't really see the need to ever stick to melee with chaff when you could just fall back and shoot the shit out of most units without fear of retaliation.

4 lascannons per havoc squad = 4 shots. with 5 wounds each wound loses you one lascannon except the first (sargeant)
3 oblits per squad = 6 shots with 9 wounds every 3 wounds lose you 2 shots. they also still have a better save.

also. lascannons are heavy = havocs have -1 to hit with them when moving.

obliterator weapons are assault 2, that makes them hit on their full BS. they can obtionally also advance which increases their movement at the cost of -1 BS

Light doesn't bounce of every angle of an edge like that. You need gradients and differing intensities of reflection to sell it. It looks bizarre otherwise.

Black, orange, or maybe dark brown - the camo is meant to break up the silhouette of the vehicle, make it harder to ID, so something to break up the smooth clean lines might work well.

Try out some styles on spare cardboard or plastic first though.

In this case the argument is blending vs. edge highlighting.
I think sloppy blending generally looks better than sloppy edge highlighting and good blending looks way better than good edge highlights. Sticking to only edge highlighting limits models to mediocre status in comparison.

They aren't supposed to be a realistic simulation. They are essential cartoon outlining designed to make the shape of the minature pop when viewed at a distance. It's like bold black ink oulines in comic book art. When kept thin enough and combined with a recess shade they can give a hand-wavey, impressionistic, version of light and shadow though. It's also great as an intermediate technique to teach beginners since its very "paint by numbers". You dont really need much artistic sense to get something that looks pretty good. Just base, shade all over, and then let the model guide you for highlights.blended shading techniques need you understnad and then try to be consistent with where light is coming from.

As for airbrushes, you can get some great fast results easily with preshading and glazes. But I very much not a fan of this "neon glow shading" trend. Its fucking terrible.

Make the C'tan more lovecraft style forever asleep gods who will when the stars are right wake up and destroy the worlds of the lesser races. Set the necrons upper command with some more personality but don't break them into being being too over the top Egyptian.

Turn the C'tan units into greater daemon like receptacles for the C'tan. Give them some fairly alien goals and boom you have an army I would fall in love with. Maybe shift in some errors in programing for a good chunk of them to let some interesting insanity happen.

Why the shit are points laid out so awkwardly? That'll make list building a way clunkier experience, especially if you're doing it from a tablet or laptop and need to keep flicking back and forwards.
>>
>>53489574
Huh. Interesting.
>>
>>53489713
They will release a list-builder app like one for AoS
>>
>>53489574

Since they have the same gear. I guess the exalted sorcerer pays x points for his powers and power level. While the default sorcerer is stuck with his base power.

Or GW fucked up.
>>
>>53489713

Because they are (hopefully) balanced with point costs for abilities etc in mind
>>
>>53489713
more granularity than "let's work only with multiples of 5", meaning weapons and units can be balanced more precisely hopefuly

The layout, guys.

Anyone have the averages for the Oblits?
>>
How cucked is Imperial Guard in 8e?

In the past they could wipe out an entire or half of a marine TSM squad, now it averages like one wound? What the fuck?

S8 / -2 / 2 Dmg
>>
>>53489836
you don't know the average of a d6? lf a d3?

Orks do not fear death as they believe in reincarnation. That is, a single boy is not a shining example of bravery. Mob them up and stick a Nob there and they'll be really hard to scare.

GW really needs to flash out Orks stuff more and fuck 7th edition with rusty spoons. Orks in 7th edition act like skaven, too afraid to fight unless beaten up by superior.
>>
>>53489837
>now it averages like one wound?
Who's kool-aid have you been drinking?
>>
>>53489828
Oh.
Well it seems fine to me. Alphabetical, with special characters separated from the rest. How would you have organized that so that it alls fit on a single page?
>>
Anywhere I can read a good summary about warhammerfest? In particular I wanna know what the FW index are going to cover. Are we going to get any of that sweet 30k action?
>>
I haven't had time to look at the leaks, are chaos good?
>>
>>53489890
GW had a live blog.

>>
What AP in 7th is AP -2 equal to?
>>
>>53489896
Chaos marines are awesome! And abbaddon is so cool! And the models are great!
>>
>>53489930
AP3 I believe.

AP3/4

Yeah but I was hoping for one with you know actual information. Questions asked to the designers that kind of shit.
>>
>>53489930
AP3.
Or AP4 or 5 with rending.
At the end of the day there is no 1:1 converting.
>>
>>53489787
>Exalted Sorcerer 86 points
>Sorcerer 90 points

What
>>
>>53489866

3.5 average shots, 1,75 average hits, 1,46 average wounds, marines save on 5+ so that's a 0.98 chance of doing D3 damage ->1.5 damage on average
>>
>>53489879

I'd put the majority of the fucking points costs on the datasheet so I don't need to jump between three or four pages, multiply a figure by the number of models I take then tot up all my upgrade costs to get one unit.

It's not much more complicated, but it's slower and less user friendly.
>>
>>53489954
Exalted will probably have a TS keyword and therefore will fuck up you strategems. Still weird though.
>>
>>53489971
Why do you think I know what you're talking about?
>>
>>53489624
You buy gear separately, unless the Primaris example is not the norm.

Then we are going to have the clusterfuck edition. Where points are random.
>>
>>53489985

If GW have thought about this, and factored it into the cost, then 8th edition may actually have balanced rules, and all their talk about playtesting and listening to the community will be true.

Oh boy, I cant wait to turn to up games with my 1487 point list.

Is it really so hard to keep points costs as multiples of 5?
>>
>>53488422
You can split your attacks between melee weapons now, so you could stomp with half and cut with half.

It makes senses balance-wise as it is more granular
>>
>>53490043
Play with power levels or narrative with unbound armies if math is too hard for you.
>>
>>53490043
>Is it really so hard to keep points costs as multiples of 5?
yes it is. If you want the game to be balanced, anyway. Because it means if a weapon is slightly-slightly better than another, you are obliged to put it 5pts more (in which case people will say it's not worth its cost) or free (in which case it entirely replaces the other weapon). See >>53489781
Also
>hurr durr additions are hard
>>
>>53490063
It's not that horrible honestly 6 shots that can do d3 wounds.

Wait D6 shots, yep it's trash. Why the fuck don't they just do X shot +YD shots.

Too much random kills this kind of games, mostly because you can't really reduce the randomness.

Am I the only one who thinks the new oblits aren't that bad? They're a lot tougher and more mobile than havocs, you can deep strike them, and their guns are guaranteed to be autocannons at a minimum, usually better.
I get the distaste for random shit (it's the same reason my flash gitz have never seen a game), but considering the worst that can happen is a trio of tough, mobile autocannons, I think they might just be a little overcosted at worst.

>>53490135
Main issue, for me at least, is the lolrandumb. Than again I have hated on the fact that templates got removed, blasts got removed and we're no longer dealing with armour facings (or the way vehicles have been changed in general).
