>Not sure you can not use them though.
Well, the tassles aren't a separate part. They're attached to the plastron and front cowling. The head is a separate bit, meant to be seated behind the cowling - maybe so you can paint it separately? I suppose if you had bitz from a bog-standard terminator squadboy and were fairly adept at greenstuff, you could make it work, but as-is? No.
>>53356863
That's a pretty good lookin land raver
>use my cheap ass airbrush to basecoat about 30 marines and a vehicle to boot
>it goes pretty well, a few blocks quickly fixed
>start cleaning by backflushing it
>see bubbles near the trigger mechanism, never happened before
>start panicking as I can't see the needle when I unscrew the back, fear I broke it in half inside the airbrush
>realise I left it on my desk after my last airbrushing
>mfw I just airbrushed better than I ever did on a much larger scale than I ever tried without the goddamn needle
I feel the green looks a lot better in person.
I apologize for the not great photo
>>53357137
Is that the plastic model? Or some "gift" from our slant eyed friends?
>>53357276
Nvm, didn't see the filename. Still, solid quality.
>>53357241
the coats of paint might be a little thicker than normal, but I'm very surprised you got a controllable spray at all with the entire needle missing.
I very much doubt that my H&S Airbrush would even approach working properly without that thing in there...
My friends and I get a real hoot when we use these teenie weenies from bad dragon as terrain, what do you guys think?
>>53357363
another one
>>53357363
Tyranid terrain, has WS, can attack from limited range, targets suffer movement penalty (stretched behind)?
AND MY AXE!!!!!
>>53357316
Well I did use a metric fuckton of flower with the Vallejo grey, but I really wanted the paint to be flowing since clogging is my bane. It actually went pretty fucking well. No thick coats or anything. Here, have a pic.
Maybe I have so much dried paint inside it helped getting a nice spray? Not gonna lie, it was the best airbrushing I ever got, the spray was great.
>>53357401
looks smooth indeed, nice work Anon.
You got very lucky I imagine, perhaps you usually have the needle too far forward?
Because an airbrush really shouldn't clog up that easily, even when using something a little heavier than normal paint like primers.
Generally a little more pressure fixes any tip dry I see with my Vallejo primer.
Finally got it primed
>>53357363
>>53357392
That is... most peculiar xeno-flora.
>>53357440
The airbrush tends to block in thr paint cup/airbrush junction, which is on the side. But I'll think about the needle, it might help with with those drops of paint going onto my nuzzle and clogging the front at least party, making my spray not straight but rather angled.
Thanks!

>A pack of 5 micro-dildos cost $25, most GW stuff is more expensive.
why am I not surprised
So I'm working on making my friend's siren character for a tabletop game. In that verse, Sirens are birdfolk with wings and arms, and are alot more thicc.
So here's my first attempt to sculpt thick glutes onto a scorge. Somewhat okay with it.
>>53358109
I mean, depends o the dildo. I bought one for a friend that was 50 euros. And I know that some can go around a hundred euros or so.
any of you guys ever done miniatures like perry miniatures stuff?
I was wondering about buying a box with sprues for 40 guys and converting them for use in fantasy game
>>53358322
Yeah, they make some lovely stuff, comparable to older GW plastics really, not a fan of this new stuff that basically makes stuff monopose
>>53358278
The Teenie Weenies (as these are called) are 5 for $25, fixed price, random selection of 5, random colours.
The actual dildos they make range from $50 to $170, depending on size, type, colour and options.
I got my self a new a massive new desk and I wanna get back into painting again to finish off all my guard before 8th hits. Anyone got any recomendations on what to get for a painting station?
>>53358462

>>53358230
Any important factors to consider when getting cutting mats? Or can I get away with any cheap thing from Amazon?
>>53359597
Cheap ones are mostly shit. Good ones have multiple layers with a more or less self healing surface over the actual cut proof stuff. Get a Revell one if you want a compromise.
>>53358665
well im asking about resin
So, I'm thinking of saving up and getting either a Baneblade or an Imperial Knight. Which one do y'all suggest? I've never built either, and I want something cool for my IG army or a nice display piece.
>>53360134
Imperial Knights sound like they'll suit this edition better, being scary in melee and able to provide you with a beatstick to stand in front of your guys.
Not to mention they look super cool, though Baneblades are also very classic IG.
How does it look?
>>53356863
that front piece is so phallic...I LIKE IT
>>53360207
>>53360180
Based
>>53360180

>>53360041
Resin is the most fragile of the 3 possible material. So if you strip resin, make sure it's with something you can leave plastic in fo ages without any problems like Dertol or simple green. And even then, make sur to be fast, just in case, and to check there isn't any alcohol in the product.
>>53360134
Buy a Baneblade. Knights are overdone as fuck, Baneblade are the true soul of the Imperial Guard. Plus Haley made some excellent novels about them and if you're careful and willing to take your time, you can magnetise it enough to make a shitton of different loadouts.
A Banebladr and its variants are THE centerpiece of any self respecting IG army.
>>53360180
Man this takes me back.
Thin your paints anon, the fact that the robes have lost so much detail is problematic. Make sure yo not overload the brush even after thinning.
>>53360134
get a baneblade
do it up as a command tank, there's a lot of DIY potential with the baneblade chassis
>>53360134
If you're an existing guard player, a baneblade just looks better in the middle of your collection than a knight. It's a style thing.
Tried to create some freehand on my knight, not done with the white, but how does the general shape look ?
>>53361309
Not bad at all.
Power was blown and I started to brainstorm some display ideas. Figured I'd take an army shot while they were laid out to check how much of the board they filled.
still a few more pieces I definitely want to add, but it's weird to think I've been working on these dudes for three years
Plugging away on my SCE. Still need to get more of a brighter silver on most of the armors, and can't decide if I'm happy with the shade of red or not.

>>53361414
What did you use for the crusaders? Army looks great.
>>53361743
Had my doubts in the sister's helmet but in the end doesn't look big at all.
I was just at a nearby dollar store looking for something, and came across some Hot Wheels Die-Cast space ship models. At that price, I couldn't resist the impulse for some more knick-knacks.
I'm looking for a way to add some texture to these things. The lines are a bit too clean, but I didn't like the more pixelated print job on the "battle-damaged" ones.
I want to make them look like they've been used a bit. Ink washing sounds like it's the way to go, from what scraps of memory I can bring up, but I don't have any model painting stuff with me, and it isn't worth the investment for $16 for 6 models. I'm looking for a semi-decent improvised solution, like maybe putting on some show polish and rubbing it off with a q-tip or something.
>>53361817
Yeah, I get you. The imperium still uses pointed circles/novas in their iconography, but saying it like that seems like an excuse.
spiked shackles are too cool to be limited to just chaos, though
>>53361824
Blood warriors. The multipart kit would definitely be easier to convert, but I wanted the starter set poses.
>>53361836
The grishnak "war maidens" are a bit smaller than the GW sisters, so the helmets aren't oversized. Got them on a whim since the immolator was out of stock, and it paid off.

>>53361512
Look pretty messy, definitely need some cleanup.
You'll have an easier time if you base coat them silver, get some spray.
Also the red looks really thick and blotchy, you need to do more think coats
>>53362716
boring, they need something to make them stand out a bit more.
Also i'm getting triggered by the massive mold line on the middle guys head.
>>53363076
Know of any decent silver sprays offhand? Defenitely wouldn't mind saving some time and steps.
Far as the red I'm working on thinner coats of Wazdakka over Mephiston red, however I'm colorblind as shit, and the thinned down coats end up almost imperceptible to me so I can't tell which models I've done and which I haven't. Ty for the advice, though.
>>53363239

Thanks, yeah the roof could be improved. The yellow light in the room is really flattening out and hiding my drybrushing, maybe this will show it better. I also think breaking some tiles and adding moss growing up the sides of the building and on the roof would look good.
>>53365299

Been working with EVA foam for terrain recently and I wanna add realistic damage and pock marks to it, but digging out the foam with knives just makes it look like fucked up foam. Should I just take it out and shoot it a handful of times with a pellet gun before I prime it?
>>53366269
How did you get that texture for the wall? The plaster-looking one.
Super long lore-y question sorry about that, the deathwatch have access to more exquisite weaponry other chapters wouldnt normally have but could the deathwatch somehow requisition something from a chapter like a baal predator or on the more extreme side like a thunder wolf for a member who is also a space wolf.
>>53366287
okay, there are many weird methods that get nice results on foam
for general texture, take a sharp, uneven rock that fits the palm of your hand and start striking / glancing / grinding the surface of the foam.. start gently to get a feel for the effect and slowly increase the force
for pock marks, pulling out little pieces with tweezers can look very good and is appropriate scale (digging out chunks with knives tends to be too big)
starting a cut with a knife, then rip off pieces (not cutting) can produce a good effect - rip with tweezers, or just with your fingers
a small metal scouring brush can produce nice scratches
you can always glue debris back into a hole if it gets too big, or glue in sand, small pebbles, etc to vary the texture
>>53366300
It's a mixture of plaster of paris, sand and white glue - the consistency is like frosting before it dries
I use durabond as the plaster compound, it's much stronger than regular plaster of paris
>>53366481
I'll definitely keep that mind for this next piece, thanks. I never thought to use a rock on it.
>>53366507
Hmmmm okay thanks. Yeah my current mix of cheapo spackle and aquarium sand just isn't giving me what I need. I may need to spring for the better stuff. Great work on your piece.
>>53366639
thanks, also the grain size of the sand matters a lot - if they're too big then the wall looks too "rocky" and not like plaster. i use several different filters / sieves to separate out my sand into different grain sizes and i store each size in a separate bottle. i also dry the sand in the oven before doing this so it pours easily and doesn't clump. you may want to experiment with filtering down to small sizes to get a finer surface texture
>>53366404
Seems unlikely. They have their own set of chapter tactics and strategems that they implement. Those that join the Deathwatch conform to the way Deathwatch fights, not the other way around. That being said, I'm sure you could spin it as Deathwatch with Space Wolf/Blood Angel allies.
>>53366639
also i apply the mixture with a popsicle stick and scrape it onto the walls. then i use the end of the popsicle stick to "push" the mix up against all the edges (it's quite thick so this is necessary because it can't be "painted" on so to speak, more like smeared / daubbed on)
I remember one anon sometime last year or the year before was doing his Thousand Sons somehow so their armor was all sparkly and shit. Anyone have a screencap or link to his process?

Alright, will add more white on the pad. And yeah, I noticed the base with the photo. I'll carefully add a bit of agrax between each skull. I think it's like this because I took the lazy route and drybrushed the base too heavily.
Finished apart from basing, transfers and blood splatter. World Eater veteran squad with an Excoriator chainaxe and vexilla.

Paints could be thinner, but it's not a dealbreaker. Tidying up the highlights and in general would benefit the model. I can see a bit of blue spilling over onto the black boot, some white on the cowl around the mask, etc.
>>53370491

Thin your paints dude.
It's better to apply two layers of thin paint than one thick layer that ruins details.

Honestly the coolest styled and painted army ive seen posted on /tg/ in a very long time. Really like the paintscheme and the conversions on the crusaders with greyfax are super cool, havent seen conversions of the blood warriors to imperial units before, pretty sick idea.
definitely makes me inspired to make a little force like this in urban/ PDF camo
10/10 anon!
>>53370695
Way too thick, what happened anon?
You can barely see any detail on his right hand and the leather shoulder danglies.
Yellow is a very frustrating colour to work with, but don't get tempted to slap it on thick just to achieve a solid coat. Multiple thin layers always.
>>53370695
>>53370705
How long have you been painting.
Your Brush control doesn't seem that bad, which is a good skill but your paint is way too thick in some areas, especially the lightning claws swallowing up detail.
Your metallics are ok but need work on shading and highlight, edge highlighting especially.
Yellow is one of the hardest colours to paint well so it's a bold choice but you've really applied it too much and too thickly..
Overall, I think you yourself can see, compared to another model GW for example where you are in terms of skill but you need to keep on practicing.
but, I will always say this, I would rather face an entire army painted like this vs an unpainted army.
My Advice, going forward is use GW's Averland Sunset spray as a base, you'll be much happier
I've done more since, banging in some scratches on the red panels and inking in patina on the recessed knee spikes.
>>53370768
not to long, but I've never done a bright scheme like fists before. I know highlighting is something I need to work on.
ATM it's army painter skeleton bone > vallejo yellow ochre > vallejo deep yellow
I'll try more coats on the next one. I don't intend to use cataphracti in my list so they're here to be painted, scrubbed and painted again to get a decent scheme going

current dilemma is picking a pose for the boy with the daki

a: raised shoota + this head (but without the helmet) pressed toward daki or looking away

a was the original intention but I'm not completely set

Is it, by any chance, a bottle of Imperial Primer where all the valuable pigment has globbed together in a giant mass in the center of the pot and all you can get out of it is that thin wash? Yeah, I had one of those too. Throw that shit away and don't buy any more of it. Of all the things I've bought off Citadel's paint rack, that was the only thing I really regretted purchasing.

>>53371455 is on the right track. I like Rustoleum's 2X.
>>53371399
It can be, but for wraps and rags not really, the key is keeping your fingers and tools wet so it doesn't stick.

When I was building terrain, I made extensive use of slabs of pink insulation foam, cut with a hot wire cutter, and then shaped with a sander. After that we'd cover it with spackle and sand, and go from there.
It would seem to me that something similar could work - a small piece of some workable foam, shaped roughly to what you want, then covered in grout or spackle (to protect it from spraypainting, that shit eats foam), add your bits/rocks/decor, basecoat and paint. It's finicky, working with those sorts of pastes, but once you get the hang of it, you can make some neat stuff.
I've never tried it on something as small as an individual miniature's base, though, so I can't guarantee it would work.
I've been wanting to do a lightning-type effect on these guys heads, with maybe doing a light grey wash over part of the face to look like lightning behind mist. . Are there any special tricks to this, or should I just take a hit of diazepam and hope for the best?
>>53372293
Lightning is fairly easy to achieve, it just requires a steady hand - take a dark blue, zig zag it over the area. Take a lighter blue, follow the same path but leaving some of the dark. Then use white to pick out some of the zigs and zags and voila, easy lightning.
The mist, I dunno. Not sure what effect it'd have on the lightning other than making it appear murky.

Of course, I don't want to put down anyone who's good at it, and I acknowledge it takes some skill to do fantastic things with it, but it just doesn't do it for me visually
Anyone has tips for someone who has painted for 20 years and never got better at it? I am starting a new game this time and it is a skirmish system, and unlike with WFB I can't just spray everything silver and smoke ink it to look ok.
Checked up some tutorials, but all of them have stupid time jumps, that show dude saying Paint X and then the model is ready in an instant.
My main concern is hot to make flesh not look like a burn victim. On my chaos warriors it was ok, but my new game has a ton of females and after doing two, I think It would have been better if I left them unpainted.
>>53373167
Start from stage one like you don't know anything.
Go slow, be conservative. Thin your paints and take the time to apply multiple thin coats. Impatience will be your enemy.
I know you said you hate time jumps, but Duncan really is the best for beginners. He can show you how to get great effects for little effort.
Try this: just buy the base colors you want. Try getting clean base colors (no over-thick paints, even distribution, neat lines and no overlap) and then just apply a universal wash. If you can do that and get something that looks reasonably good, then move on to layering. And you don't even have to start over, you can just move on to applying layer paints to the models you've already done.
>>53373229
yeah, but he does realy say stuff I would like to know. For example, how do people paint their models without their hand shaking after a few seconds? Specialy with those small parts of the model, like belts or pistols etc.
I tried the base color grey+wash, but then I had to paint skin too and it ended up looking realy bad. Plus it is not like am new to painting I started in 1996.
>>53373284
Elbows on table and just really really be careful nig
>>53373284
Practice. Idk what to tell you, that's just fine motor skills. Some people can keep their hands REALLY steady. Try resting your elbows on stuff. Practice without and paint to just see if you can control the brush.
Also not many people know this, but don't use the whole brush to paint. Technically you're only supposed to get the tips of the bristles wet. Some people just load up their brush and ruin their control and bristles.
It's just about practice at the end of the day, and really pushing to get better.
>>53366190
Skull helmet maybe?
i was told to practice more on blending and highlights, so practicing on a varanguard knight, got these as a birthday gift from a friend! Its a wip in all aspects, mostly been focusing on the armor. Tried runefang steel to highlight all the gold but it seems too much, gotta pick up some paints tomorrow. What color should i make the beast?
>>53370597
Very nice sons of Angron. How do you paint the white?
>>53374068
that's a nice tabletop standard
>>53374068
Its already looking good in black, I would say maybe white to counter all the black on the knight?
>>53374107
oh this meme again
>>53374367
Thanks, yeah, maybe an off white color with blue or purple tinge.
>>53374068
It's very nice and I have to say the highlights are nice but could be a bit cleaned up. The runefang silver should be a fine highlight and not everywhere. I think that the skin colour for the beast would work in a black that isn't blue like the armour. Nice job anyway.
Anyone with advice?
All the brown was boring so I did some albinos.
Just need to pick out the details and finish the bases.
>>53372938
It's really only ever bugged me when it feels like it was exclusively airburhsed. I think combining airbrushing with traditional brushwork is the best combination. I'd still like to give it a try though one of these days. It's gotta be pretty good for getting stuff done en masse.
>>53374834
What kind of advice? Off the top of my head I'd say more shade on the albinos and more highlights on the horns.
Maybe liven up the base with some grass, or a light green drybrush or something. Try to reduce the amount of brown. Btw I like the purple.
Any closeups?
>>53374870
Thanks
What colour should I do for the design on the banner to contrast the purple? A white or yellowish maybe?
If you compare the left most albino with the banner one, you will see I tried doing different shading (the left one is way darker in the recesses).
yes will add grass.
The horns I will probably highlight up to screaming skull
>>53373167

Guys, I have Retributor Armor, Gehenna's gold and auric armor gold
How do I paint gold?
>>53375948
My approach would be first base with retributor, wash with wash of choice, i would go for either agrax earthshade or reikland fleshtone, then bring back some of the shine back with a glaze of gehennas gold on raised surfaces, then highlight with auric, and a final, neat highlight with runefang steel on the very sharpest parts.
>>53376093

>>53375948

What colours/pattern would you use for tanks that would go with this dude? The theme is an ice world regiment.
I google 'winter tanks' and get lots of images of tanks painted green then whitewashed as hasty winter camo. I'm not sure how to paint a tank that was built and painted to fight in an icy environment.
>>53377584
Well, you've got three obvious colours on your guardsman. Grey, light grey and black.
I'd go with some variant of splinter camouflage. Straight lines and hard angles. Probably don't need the smaller dashes (since they'd get muddied up on the tabletop)

I keep my elbows on the rests of my chair. I can't have my elbows or arms on any tables at home, as they are too high for me .
Plus I have been trying to paint since 1996, I just get worse through the years. I never was good, but 10-15 years ago my hands didn't shake that much and my eye sight was much better. Right now when I try to paint a model it is more or less like this. I undercoat it, leave it to dry. start paint details get paint from belts, ammo etc on the uniform, specialy if I thing the paint too much. So I leave it to dry, try to fix the uniform, and get pain on the belt or ammo. And this way it goes back an forth more or less for a day or two till I get pissed enough to stop painting
>>53378055
If you're not improving, and are having trouble keeping steady, then the only advice anyone is capable of giving you is "try something different". If you have Parkinson's disease, then there isn't really much advice that's gonna help on that front.
Chill out, take deep breaths, rest your arms, practice thinning paints and brush control.

White teeth. There's already enough black. Also in the future (this is just me) I think light gold highlights look better on gold than silver-on-gold highlights.

Since I've gotten sick of working with metallic medium, I was considering changing up how I paint metallic colors for stuff like Alpha Legion and Thousand Sons. I was gonna base with silvers and then add a color glaze afterwards.
