I ask because you...don't really need a skill to prove your character is good at chess. Profession is for something your character could use to make money at a steady rate. I can't remember which one it's in, but the rules for Troops are in one of the Reign of Winter books. Specifically, the one that has the players going to Russia during the civil war.

The problem with random loot is, if you can't use it, it's not very useful except to sell for loot you want.

If I get a +3 dagger and I'm specced into two-handed weapons, it's next to useless to me, and it's not going to help the wizard as his backup weapon much. Random loot just goes on the junk pile so is worth less.

It is if you're limited to 1pp. It's extremely shit, and some of its archetypes aren't so much "pit traps" as lava pits lined with lava-immune landmines that explode into black holes made of time-altering soul tortures.

Plus, wood and void are basically fucked, as is fire eventually because ... fire. Everything's immune to fucking fire lategame, unless they're immune AND resistant to fire.

With 3rd party support though it gets very very interesting; from the Gambler and Avant-Guard, to the Legendary Kineticist, porphyra archetypes, and all the extra wild talents for existing elements.... And new motherfucking elements.

It BECOMES good.
