I almost killed the party and sent them packing because they underestimated a caster enemy, again, in the first game. We made the GM mad by ending an encounter early and using items and magic that trivialized the other encounter, again, on the second game. Then we started our first escapade into the Greenbelt in the third game.

First things first, panic when his helm and weapons aren't available. Try to palm a knife from the dinner table just in case. Get the other PCs together and plan an escape route. Make sure nobody goes anywhere alone--we stay in teams of two or three so everyone has someone watching their back.

Once he's calmed down and got some insurance, he can start planning with the others to report back on anything they see each night, just to make sure they're not getting screwed over.

He is a prolific artist, and you got to respect that. Drawing so many things, all the time, with consistent quality, is a huge feat. I agree the style is a hit or miss, but given the high-fantasy setting, I think it's quite fitting. His ability to clutter his designs with tons of little items and details and still not look like an overdose is great.

If you're going with the exaggeration of high-fantasy, that has to be reflected in artstyle. I think WAR is a fair choice.

My idea is that a samurai learned from a master who'd lived in ancient times - a warrior type that got petrified in the ancient path and was stone-to-fleshed back to being alive in the modern era; given his time had passed and the way of the sword was now all but long gone, he settled down to make a school.

My character would be one of his students, thoroughly enamored with the concepts of honor and justice due to her upbringing being not the best, and determined to make her own spin on the samurai way, pulling out things like high a high frequency katana and a suit of power armor stylized after ancient tian armor.

In one of my games, it was a super long campaign. The players eventually went to asia and one died so he rolled as a samurai. Eventually the story led to the players confronting a time wizard in their demiplane and was petrified and tossed into space only to be destoned in a space station.

The barbarian survived too being frozen in true ice for the same reason so they were the last members. Everyone else rolled up futuristic characters.


But as for my characters, I would play Flash Nebula, a glamrock space captain envoy who plays the keytar and has a silver metallic jumpsuit with a V neck that goes down to his belt.

Or space dandy. But my most interesting one to me would be a robotic ascetic monk who trained in an ancient style that is almost gone. Only taught by one really old dragon that survived til now, or a samurai like I described. I would probably be converting those classes over like what they are doing in Mighty Quest

Alright, I said I would review ROaB apps yesterday and never let it be said i don't make good on my promises, i'll probably do at least 2 of these before I fall back into deep depression! 2!
I'm not going to be reviewing mechanics at all because who really cares, I'm thinking the following 4 categories should do.

1. Backstory - Self explanatory
2. Characterization - Personality blurb/some bits, how well i think this character is put forth as a personality (i think this is important)
3. Signature System - A key bit of the app, I feel like this is really a part of selling it
4. Mecha-ness - How much they feel like a mecha character and something I recognize, my intense weebery will surely help me here

I thought about adding a category for reviewing the mecha too but i dunno, i feel like it overlaps into characterization and junk

I kept having to remind myself that yes, I’m actually looking at a halfling. That’s not a bad thing! It’s just that I don’t have memory of many (if ANY) halfling characters from any recent games. Taking it from the angle of “halfling”, Caleni ends up wedged in between the two common cliches, each of which manifests as (and in) her parents. As a note, I had to check back to make sure, but kudos for at least specifying that Caleni’s father normally voyaged to Sargava. “Searching for dear ol’ dad” won’t be able to drive her through the whole AP though, and it will require re-examining your priorities even if he’s not found. At the start, it’s a fairly solid in, and has potential.

Claude had a hard life, but you get a good sense of the characters perseverance and attitude from the backstory alone, even in the personality blurb is missing I feel like I kind of know what Claude would act like and who he is to an extent
If I have any problem with this backstory, its almost that its too humble, Claude seems sort of like a middle-manager at a big company. I feel like his motivation in pushing forward is a little lacking, and I'd like to see some additions on that front. I see him as a character, but I don't see anything that would drive him, which can be problematic. This is a guy that will go with the flow, not push against it. I'd like to see some of that added to his app, what drives Claude as a character?

I think fleshing out some of his ideology and worldview will help that too, this might be too much for the basics of an application though. I'd focus on adding the driving factor.

This is a weird application, it always bothers me when players warp the setting to make their character oppressed, which is exactly what happened with Abagale, all of a sudden her house is keeping her from doing what she wants because of reasons the player made up. Its not entirely unfounded, since the house Athos is supposed to be a bunch of nobles, but it just feels tacked on and something from out of the setting.

Her personality is similarly discordant, she's described as 'a little unhinged' as a party girl, but at the same time likes to take on 1v1 challenges. Following that up, a Duelist being a sniper is a very weird mechanical mix-up.

Abagale ultimately feels like a character that was built with mechanics of being part of x house and doing Y thing at the same time for what I assume are mechanical bonuses, flying in the face of their own flavor and creating a lot of disparate bits in the application that don't slot together in a neat way.

We seem to be operating under different definitions of "muscle" here. No one think's the emaciated roid look of "female body builders" looks good. A proper muscle girl, however, will have a healthy ammount of body fat to be able to maintain her muscles and strength though. Really, a good muscle girl shouldn't look like a shitty "sculpted" body builder with no muscle, but rather they need just enough definition and fat together to look like they are physically capable. I know just from reading the backstory that this is a character that wants to live up to the image of the brother she lost, and wants to make him proud, despite her own somewhat lacking abilities. Her overly serious nature and driven personality are nice additions, but this character is mostly in the clear

Its hard for me to criticize an app that I see as pretty damn good, I would like to see Rin fighting to live up to her brother despite her not being all that great, to see her grow and overcome her problems.

If I had to pick one point, I'd say the application suffers from a little tonal dissonance. Parts of the writing feel like they're trying to make fun of intense weebery that comes with mecha and MUH JAPANESE HONORU, but then it executes on those same tropes shockingly well.

What would you consider to be an improvised version of a gnome pincher?

A gnome pincher is basically pic related, except as a reinforced metal version. It gives +2 to steal and disarm.

I've already got an umbrella as an improvised sap and ribbons as improvised whips, but I'm trying to stock up on some other improvised weapon ideas of varying degrees of silly.

I guess that western ideal has never really resonated much with me, since I grew up in a military family, and nearly all my relatives are either crazy and dangerous, just plain crazy, or are the much wider-built Mexican family my aunt married into. And most of my relatives usually tend to be the wandering and rambling type of people, so I guess no one from either my parents' sides are much delicate or demure at all.

I want to homebrew an ability in as an archetype, though I'm unsure what base class to work wtih. Was originally going to go with Paladins because of the 5e inspiration, but I'd have to change way too much. Maybe Magus? I also have to tinker with the damage until the math seems right.

This.. This app hardly has a backstory, what made Juan join up with a new PMC? Why isn't he still with his merc family? The ideas are there and are presented as finished, but it never seems to get to the point of it

It also cannot go without saying that this character is literally piloting a Gespenst MK II Kai from Super Robot Wars. Its not even bothered to change the name. Its just a Gespent MK II

This app needs a serious injection of some goddamn originality and personality, Juan is about as boring as they come, I have zero desire to see him in a game. This character barely makes an interesting NPC.

A lot of this makes me think this is a roll20 randie, and it probably is, but if you're here, please, work on this app and try to be more original, its like you're literally playing spider-man in a heroes game, just lazy and boring.

Were I you i'd make it X rounds depending on what slot you take, because a minute for a full fight of touch attacks sounds a bit too powerful, trivializing martials even more so than they already are. Casting mod to AC sounds neat. The bonus dice also sounds neat enough.
