Just putting the finishing touches on Kruphix with a side order of clones. A friend of mine is coming back into town and he's bringing Daretti with him. Time to show him the new deck.

Hell yes my nigga

Wort is best spellslinger, nothing else compares
>>
>>52916212
I'm a big fan of Myr Battlesphere but that's pretty obvious. Sandstone Oracle is a fun one to dump your hand then draw a bunch off of. Solemn Simalcrum is another obvious one. Treasure Keeper for value, depending on deck content.
>>
>>52916212
Dragons are pretty tight

Also, Magus of the Wheel is rad for that instant-speed hand dump
>>
>>52916212
Invader Parasite, that one dragon that cycles your hand for X cards where X is damage you dealt this turn and Dragon Mage to fill grave.

Speaking of Feldon, how does Scrap Trawler interacts with his clones?

>>52916185
>>52916255
Thanks my dudes, hopefully I'll be able to do as much SCIENCE! with Wort as I do with Mizzix/Melek. I don't want to do semi-goblin tribal, so I'll jam as much other types of tokens I can.

The clones have the CMC of whatever you reanimate so you pull something with less CMC than the clone from your grave when it dies, since it's also an artifact.

I'm pretty sure(?)

Does anyone know who the voice actress for the Magic DotP 2015 tutorial was? That voice almost makes up for having to play the tutorial.

Ramp like a fucking maniac and crap out enormous X spells. Gelatinous Genesis and Fireballs can fuck people up. The nice thing about Wort over Melek is that you don't have to do nearly as much topdeck manipulation

Yeah, Working on a Karametra deck build around combing off with bounce creatures and cast effects. also got an atraxa deck that will be built never unless i stop being poor.
>>
Has anyone tried Muzzio? He seems cool.
>>
>>52916094
>Build anything new that you're excited to play for the first time at the next game night?
They're not close to being finished yet, but I'm working on getting the pieces I need for Ghoulcaller Gisa Devotion Zombie Tribal and Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim Cleric Tribal.

>>52916212
Dudes with good ETBs man.
>>
>>52916588
Muzzio is basically Daretti but without the cool ass artifact recursion and more tutors. TLDR more consistent but more boring and predictable as a result
>>
>>52916588
I have a Muzzio deck. I like it well enough, but I'm missing some cards to really push it over the top. Mainly I'm not running enough big bomby dudes. I have what I would consider nearly perfect mana rocks and it lets me ramp faster than the decks that run green that are in our playgroup.
>>
>>52916329
The tokens are often incidental from my experience, they can become your win condition with a well-timed Overrun or whatever but otherwise I find myself just using them as conspire fodder.
Big X spells after conspiring a Mana Geyser or a Battle Hymn is honestly the most fun way I've gone nuclear on the table.
Valakut Packages and ramp also an option, Harvest Season from Amonkhet looks baller for that.
A Throne of the God-Pharaoh is a nice way to make your token count matter, however.
>>
>>52916611
>>52916678
I had a feeling that that was the case. Consistent, but not as gnarly as Daretti. I don't like planeswalkers though, so I felt like Muzzio would be a nice enough replacement without going for Arcum Dagsson.
>>
>>52916718
>I felt like Muzzio would be a nice enough replacement without going for Arcum Dagsson
Arcum Dagsson is way more boring than Muzzio IMO. I usually see those decks just tutor out the same combo pieces every game.
>>
>>52916094
>Build anything new that you're excited to play for the first time at the next game night?

I'm working on a Brago deck. I don't have the pieces to make him really degenerate, but I wanna give it a shot nonetheless. Won't be ready for Friday, though.

I'm also considering options for a Hapatra deck, because I like the idea of slinging around -1/-1 counters, but it seems too easy to go infinite with her and make an arbitrary amount of snakes.
>>
Looking for some input on this. Main win conditions involve getting Thrax big and swinging face, poison ballista shenanigans, chandra's ignition with infect, and other such things.

The only issue is that I don't think I have enough creatures/token generation for a sac outlet. Any advice?

lads, so I'm curious
looking into Mikaeus but I'm not too sure about the counter aspect
so I understand if you can remove the counter then you can keep sac-ing something but if you add a -1/-1 counter does that negate the +1/+1?

121.3: If a permanent has both a +1/+1 counter and a -1/-1 counter on it, N +1/+1 and N -1/-1 counters are removed from it as a state-based action, where N is the smaller of the number of +1/+1 and -1/-1 counters on it.

EDH is pretty fun if you aren't playing with jerks.
>>
>>52920436
Nope. Just EDH and Modern.
>>
>>52920694
It's far worse than that. If he was actually playing with tryhards then trash like biorhythm and coalition victory would have never been on the banlist.

The worst thing about the RC is that they're in some fucked up purgatory in between competitive and casual. They're not gonna ban shit like mana crypt which is actually stupidly powerful, but incredibly powerful shit like balance does hit the list for some reason. They're inconsistent as fuck.
>>
>>52920694
Doesn't help his case that a lot of the Commanders he listed aren't THAT ridiculous, unless you let them get there.
I run Prossh, and while he helps a ton, I can just as easily win with Champion of Lambholt, Dragon Broodmother, Hanweir Garrison and so on. Food Chain CAN let me go infinite and win, but it is quite easily disrupted.
>>
>>52919447
>>
>>52920492
I just don't get his argument. In his hypothetical world where the make the Banned as a Commander category a thing again, Braids gets allowed but not as a commander because it's not that strong. And then they'd apparently just go ban happy and ban Arcum Dagsson, Derevi, Augustin, Leovold, Narset, Oloro, Prossh and Zur? Can they not just... not do that?
>>
>>52920522
I'm inspired.

Apocalypse, Decree of Annihilation, Jokulhaups, Obliterate, am I missing any?
>>
>>52920770
Prossh is among the strongest commanders in the game though. Stop loving the format with a casual mind Sheldon.
>>
>>52920972
Exactly. There's this retarded idea of "well if we'd bring back the banned as a commander list we'd have to use it extensively right?" but that's fucking retarded. Aren't they always saying that they want the banlist to be as small as possible? Doesn't that contradict? They could just bring it back to the way it was before right?

If it were up to me, rofellos, leovold, erayo and braids would all be banned as commanders, and Oldrakul would be banned only in the 99.
>>
>>52921076
Oh I wholeheartedly agree that Prossh is strong;I'm saying that he isn't banworthy like Leovold or Braids.

I'm working on building Toshi.

First of all: there are some weird black instants.
Withering boon, Imp's mischief, darkness. Treacherous urge, broken visage, and nemesis trap also count.

Second, buyback. Toshi makes buyback really good- if you buyback when you flashback, it goes to your hand instead of exiling. Corpse dance is your friend.

Beyond that, there are three major flavours I've seen, often blended.
Voltron (lashwrithe, jitte, oathkeeper)
Control (Exsanguinate, fatties)
Reanimator (Grim return, makeshift mannequin, shallow grave, good reanimation targets)

You're obligated by fluff to include the following:
Jitte (Jitte)
Myojin of Night's Reach (best waifu)
Kiku, Night's Flower (inferior waifu)

You can do a lot of things with Toshi.

Skinrender is a 3/3 body for 2BB that also puts 3 -1/-1 counters on target creature.

Spread the Sickness is a kill spell for 4B that also proliferates.

Serrated Arrows is an artifact with counters that can be removed to put -1/-1 counters on target creature. You can easily put them back on with proliferate effects.

I don't think it's actually good enough right now. There doesn't seem to be enough cycling/discard effects to support the Archfiend's effect, unless I'm overlooking some. If you're still lurking.

http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/moshi-moshi-toshi-desu-1/

Hatred and Tainted Strike aren't viable wincons. My last tweak was because the deck wasn't scary enough late game so I decided to to utilize early game creature destruction with late game reanimate effects. I also beefed up the backup voltron package. Most Toshi decks make the mistake of not running enough wincons and piddle out about t10ish. Most mono black decks don't run enough life gain as well to offset card draw. Avoid those two pitfalls.

Feel free to browse through my change log for stuff I've tried to see if it works for you or helps you determine where you might not want to take the deck.
>>
>>52922128
Ulamog's triggered ability is an ability and not a spell so Imp's Mischief can't effect it. If you had a theoretical spell that could redirect abilities in mono black and you wanted to target thr Ulamog with it's own ability then you are correct that the Ulamog would not be a legal target because it's not in play.
>>
>>52922128
Ulamog abilities are triggered abilities that teigger on cast, Imp's Mischief works only on spells.
That said, if it worked for abilities, it'd only work for OG Ulamog, since new one gets 2 targets.

Rules question: I have Mikaeus, Carrion Feeder and Fleshbag Marauder out. If I sacrifice Fleshbag Marauder to Carrion Feeder, what does the stack end up like?

Option 1
Stack top to bottom:
Fleshbag's undying trigger
Carrion's +1/+1 activated ability
>undying resolves, Fleshbag enters, ETB triggers
Stack:
Fleshbag's ETB
Carrion's +1/+1 activated ability
>ETB resolves, sacrifice Carrion to it, Carrion's undying triggers
Stack:
Carrion's undying trigger
Carrion's +1/+1 activated ability
>undying resolves, nothing new on the stack, Carrion's activated ability fizzles because he's a new entity
End result: Fleshbag with a +1/+1 counter out and Carrion with a +1/+1 counter out, both from undying

Option 2
Stack top to bottom:
Carrion's +1/+1 activated ability
Fleshbag's undying trigger
>activated ability resolves, Carrion has a +1/+1 counter
>undying resolves, Fleshbag enters, ETB triggers
Stack:
Fleshbag's ETB
>ETB resolves, sacrifice Carrion to it, undying triggers but he doesn't return because he already has a +1/+1 counter
End result: Fleshbag with a +1/+1 counter out and Carrion in the graveyard

Tl;dr when things get sacrificed as a cost for an activated ability, do LTBs or the activated ability resolve first?
>>
>>52926950
Activating an ability involves both paying the costs and putting it on the stack. Above Carrion Feeder's ability will be the Undying trigger.

There's a guy running a Maelstrom Wanderer deck in my playgroup, so I'd like to try something a little different. I also have multiple 3-color decks already so a 2-color like Rashmi would be nice to balance things out. But point taken. Rashmi seems pretty fragile and must be allowed to stay on the field to be of use, while Maelstrom Wanderer just drops in and cascades into value immediately. I can definitely see the appeal of that.

>>52926374
I'll probably go for something like that. I've noticed that many people using multiple counterspells in their Rashmi decks. But I'll probably go easy on response-type cards, since you don't want to dig those up with Rashmi.

Artifacts have been the strongest permanent type ever since fuking Alpha.
It's not really hard to ramp to 15 mana with mana rocks, even more so if you're not playing on a budget.
I'm playing Memnarch and I've had multiple times 10+ mana usable on turn 4 or 5.
Land ramp is slow as hell compared to sausage mana and you're delusional if you think otherwise.
>>
>>52929349
But literally every single other deck can have better/faster mana acceleration.
>>
>>52929363
You're ramping into an extra turn, 15/15 flyer beater and sac 6 permanents though.
>>
>>52929363
Land based ramp is much slower than artifacts, which you can play outside of signets and talismans and the bad ones.
Artifact mana is literally the best ramp there is.
>>
>>52929349
I know brown ramp is the fastest, I said I have a Kozilek deck. However, the difference between 10 and 15 mana is bigger than you think. Even with a decent hand there's a good chance your hand will be close to empty before you hit 15, so you need more draw. Furthermore, artifact ramp might be fast but it's far more vulnerable than land ramp, one vandalblast and you might as well scoop.

Really, there's a pretty huge difference between 10 and 15, in practice it's bigger than the difference between 5 and 10 mana.
>>
>>52929331
you just cant beat it, the way the deck was built was just a bunch of ramp and got her out super early then the guy playing it would just destroy the one person at the table who might be able to do something about it. we tried ganging up on him and everything but nothing worked. the card just wins and there isnt really anything you can do about it
>>
https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/628070#paper

>>
>>52929430
You can wipe the board or destroy the artifacts right? In general Emmy would come out on turns 4-7 with a decent hand and draw (looking at how fast my kozilek deck is), unless they get an insane metalworker start or a basalt + rings hands or something.
>>
>>52929343
Here's a bunch of tech you might find useful:
Perilous Forays
Psychotrope Thallid
Utopia Mycon
Aura Shards
Illusionist's Bracers
Death's Presence
Mentor of the Meek
Sigil Captain
Mycoloth
Primal Vigor
Fecundity
Twilight Drover
Spike Weaver
Triskelion
Bane of Progress

I think you could live without the cards from Kaladesh/Aether Revolt.
Ninth Bridge Patrol can be swap out for Twilight Drover or Algae Garial/Lumberknot wich are much better imo
Verdurous Gearhulk doesn't do much, 4 counters aren't really impressive
Rishkar is fine but a Cryptholith Rite is much better at a cheaper cmc, much less vulnerable to removal and without the need to put +1/+1 to get dorks
Yahenni just doesn't do anything significant for the deck
>>
>>52929543
the thing is the odds of your table being able to destroy all artifacts turn 4 is much smaller than your emmy
>>
>>52929607
Turn 4 is really extraordinary though. I suggest you put together an emmy deck and playtest a few hands on tappedout, you'll see that turn 4 is the exception, not the rule.
>>
>>52929626
its really isnt when your whole deck is dedicated to ramping it out even if it takes a turn extra its still stupidly strong. trust me my dude, its banned for a reason
>>
>>52929675
I've played my kozilek deck more than 30 times and have goldfishes the few turns hundreds of times. It's not budget, it has mana crypt, the legal moxen, grim monolith, basically all fast mana you can think of, more than 25 mana rocks total and multiple ways to make infinite mana.

And yet, in general, you will not get to 15 mana to cast emrakul on turn 4. I've tested it, it's more like turn 6 or 7, with a pretry high chance of getting fucked due to emptying your hand of mana rocks, not reaching 15, and then having to topdeck.

You also need to dilute your deck with more draw as opposed to kozilek, since you won't be able to refill your hand when you reach 10 mana.

You say "trust me", but from what you're saying it's pretty obvious that you haven't played many games with monobrown.

Thanks anon, I really appreciate that!

Now, for a little explanation, on a few things:

>I like heroic intervention because, if my board gets wiped, I'm usually hated out of the game, and it can be spicy with the boardwipes I'm running, though it's more magical christmasland than practical.
>Verdurous Gearhulk looks cool, and is an 8/8 beater for 5. I could probably find something better, like Mycoloth, but goddamned giant mech robots get me off.
>Yahenni is a sac outlet, nothing more, nothing less, and assuming I hit a boardwipe, there are a lot of token decks in my meta and he can get big in a hurry. Seems like I'm dividing my resources between a combo deck, and the indestructible boardwipes deck I've been theory crafting for years now.

It's almost inexcusable that I'm not running Aura Shards, considering I have one, so I'll throw that in there right away. Primal vigor also looks like a budget doubling season, and I'm down for that shit.

Now, is there something I'm missing with Perilous Forays? I have a shitload of basic land ramp, and paying 1 mana + sacing something seems like an awfully high cost on a 3GG enchantment. Like a few things that you've listed, they all seem relatively high CMC, and I worry about fucking my curve if I don't have the gas, so to speak. I used to run Bane of Progress, but I found every time I could cast it, it would blow up all my combo peices, and since I'm extremely light on recursion, I wound up in more of a hole than not.

In my opinion, it feels like I'm running too much spot removal. I have good, high quality spot removal, but if I'm not playing 1v1, it's a dead draw 90% of the time.
>>
>>52929890
Yup, in there. All fast mana is in there, even lotus petal and lotus bloom, since 1 mana from petal can make a pretty big difference, and otherwise it just feeds artifact synergies by staying on the battlefield.

Here, I'll play out what would be considered an amazing hand for kozilek.
3 wastes, sol ring, mana crypt, mana vault, hedron archive.

Turn 1: play a wastes, then solring, mana crypt and then hedron archive into vault.
Turn 2: cast kozilek

Now, in a kozilek deck, you draw 4 cards and immediately have more fuel for the midgame. But what happens if emmy is your commander? That's only 11 mana you have turn 2 if you play another wastes, and you only have 3 cards in your hand at that point, at least one of them land and probably more than that. So unless you drew into thran dynamo or something, which is honestly getting into magical christmasland territory, you're stuck for the next few turns, hoping to draw into another manarock.

And this is what I'd consider an amazing hand. The key here is that you can't refuel your hand while also making an impact on the board.

Even insane metalworker starts have a decent chance of not getting to 15, since that would require basically an entire hand of artifacts, but getting to 3 mana to cast metalworker is already going to cost you a few cards.

15 mana really is way more than 10, and the risk of emptying your hand and just not fetting there is pretty huge.

In a 20 life format sure but in a multiplayer format with 40 life per player and all the powerful cards from every set of magic it's not that good. Go with Mycoloth, not too long ago i managed to get out a 160/160 Mycoloth, it didn't live through the turn but damn was it fun to see the faces of the other players.
>Now, is there something I'm missing with Perilous Forays?
Perilous Forays let's you tutor for lands with a basic land type wich means it can tutor for battle lands, shock lands and now the new amonkhet duals, it's pure gold for mana fixing in any token deck and it's repeatable ramp wich is always a nice mana sink especially with a commander that needs loads of mana to make armies of tokens and such
>I used to run Bane of Progress, but I found every time I could cast it, it would blow up all my combo peices, and since I'm extremely light on recursion, I wound up in more of a hole than not.
Bane of Progress is a card to use when you're losing and/or you are struggling against pillowfort/stax, i include it in any green deck i play since there are always situations in wich you either destroy those artifacts or enchantments or you lose and being a green creature it's easy to tutor or cheat on the field in a lot of ways, plus it ends up being a big dude too.

If your goal is to spawn a bunch of tokens and then devour them, you could use Stalking vengeance and similar stuff.

I like altar of dementia and psychosis crawler on him. Drawing 49 carda from rishkar's expertise feels extra good when crawler also burns all your opponents for 49 when you do.

Honestly, just find a way to build him that you like. It's up to you if you want to focus more on going wide or more on thromok himself. Besides that you have loads of options for token producers. I went with the producers that are also creatures, gets real crazy with panharmonicon. Try to also get your removal stapled onto creatures. Reclamation sage, acidic slime, duplicant etc

Rishkar's Counter Army: Ramp heavily by pumping dorks, a few big combos and finishers with craterhoof.

You could force people to draw out of their entire library.
Tomorrow replaces your draws so you never technically draw out and lose, so if you can get enough wheels and "each player draws X" you can draw everyone else out.

These(>>52938733, >>52938741) nerds are wrong.

>602.2. To activate an ability is to put it onto the stack and pay its costs, so that it will eventually resolve and have its effect. Only an object’s controller (or its owner, if it doesn’t have a controller) can activate its activated ability unless the object specifically says otherwise. Activating an ability follows the steps listed below, in order. If, at any point during the activation of an ability, a player is unable to comply with any of those steps, the activation is illegal; the game returns to the moment before that ability started to be activated (see rule 720, “Handling Illegal Actions”). Announcements and payments can’t be altered after they’ve been made.
>602.2a The player announces that he or she is activating the ability. If an activated ability is being activated from a hidden zone, the card that has that ability is revealed. That ability is created on the stack as an object that’s not a card. It becomes the topmost object on the stack. It has the text of the ability that created it, and no other characteristics. Its controller is the player who activated the ability. The ability remains on the stack until it’s countered, it resolves, or an effect moves it elsewhere.
>602.2b The remainder of the process for activating an ability is identical to the process for casting a spell listed in rules 601.2b–i. Those rules apply to activating an ability just as they apply to casting a spell. An activated ability’s analog to a spell’s mana cost (as referenced in rule 601.2f) is its activation cost.

>601.2f If the total cost includes a mana payment, the player then has a chance to activate mana abilities (see rule 605, “Mana Abilities”). Mana abilities must be activated before costs are paid.

And this happens once the ability is already on the stack, and therefore the sacrificing of Roon via Ashnod's Altar to pay for the activated ability is a legal action.
>>
>>52938932
>Mana abilities must be activated before costs are paid.

>>
>>52939085
You tap him to pay for the tap first, then sac him to pay the 2 for the mana part, I guess?
>>
>>52939128
You run Possibility storm, Blood Funnel, Planar Chaos, etc. Stack the triggers such that when you cast any artifact you let it get countered/exiled then resolve Mishra's ability allowing you to tutor it out of your graveyard or library. Personally I just run him because memes.
>>
>>52939208

>>
>>52939190
That almost reminds me of the Rules Lawyering bullshit of people with sac outlets blocking my Zurgo, and then sacrificing them after blockers block but before damage is dealt (or something like that). It was stupid gamy nonsense that basically neutered a major part of Zurgo.
>>
>>52939547
I mean, it's a valid technique. Good way to keep your ass alive. Just be glad combat damage doesn't use the stack anymore
>>
>>52939547
To be fair, that's how that works.
Combat Phase has 5 steps, and each step has time for each player to do stuff.
Start of Combat (triggers and combat effects start mostly)
Declare Attackers (active player declares attackers, then everyone has chance to do stuff)
Declare Blockers (defending player(s) declare blockers, then everyone has chance to do stuff)
Combat Damage (creatures deal First Strike / first Double Strike damage, then everyone has chance to do stuff, then creatures deal normal combat damage, then everyone has chance to do stuff)
End of Combat (triggers and combat effects end mostly)

If you're worried about people doing that kind of thing, run ability hosers like Linvala, Basandra, City of Solitude, Grand Abolisher, etc
>>
>>52939190
That's retarded and does not work.
Amazing case of /tg/ being bad at magic once again.

>>52939547
You can sacrifice your blocking after blockers are declared but before the combat damage step. Calling it rules lawyering only shows that you don't know the rules and are mad that other people aren't as retarded as you are.
