I personally like my Overlord the most. I've fluffed him as being a melee fanatic, he used to engage in grand duels and extravagant displays of swordsmanship, lording it over the lords in his court, but since biotransference he has a nagging feeling that he can no longer fight as well as he could in his fleshy body, and constantly strives to push himself in combat, making reckless challenges against enemy combatants in a desperate attempt to validate himself. I also like Overlords in general because they're useful.

My favourite character is Inquisitor-Lord Varius also known as the best inquisitor that 40k has ever seen since he got shit done and created uberguardsmen.
On the tabletop my favourite unit has to be remora drones for the tau. I know tg hates tau but the remora drones are the epitome of the tau doctrine. I have a pair of stealth teams infiltrating up when bam, I deep strike the remoras in to the centre of the map (4 of them) and with tank+monster I rip through anything with AV12 or a 4+ save while not being a fucking suit spammer since personally I find the larger suits hideous and overdone.

50 lasguns equals 34 hits, equals 12 wounds.

It can. Dire Avengers have Aspect armor, which while not as good as power armor, can stand up to a bolter round about half the time.

They also have Avenger shuriken Catapults, which have enough range to match a bolter for distance most of the time, and while it'll often glance off their armor, they have Bladestorm which will let them pierce through weaker spots and deal damage that way.

You could easily see a protracted gunfight between the two.

They're really not. They're not as good compared to some options in the Tau codex, but the Tau codex has a ton of strong options, so their weakness gets overstated.

Take them for what they are, Jump Infantry with AP 3 guns, Initiative 6, and Hit & Run. They're pretty good compared to other similar fast attack choices across books. The reason they have a hard time is that a typical Tau army doesn't have much need for that sort of close assault unit when they can just get a Crisis team with Plasma rifles for taking out marines.

I've struggled to find a role for the DA that isn't "fuck up reserve rolls and arrive way late". But, I've actually started using a Grotesquerie instead to lovely results. Ripping apart blob squads and waiting for the Trueborn to pop open transports then ripping apart the occupants. I mean, they can usually handle low AV stuff like Chimeras, but the Trueborn usually make it a courtesy.

Buy the start collecting plus a skyspliner for $130. You get an HQ and 2 troops with raiders for that price, which is a steal by GW prices.

By the time you assemble and paint that 8th will be out, which will hopefully unfuck Wyches and other Deldar trash units.

All about the player, I have fun with Orks in casual and vs tryhardy lists.

I'd actually say the latter is the most fun as they opponent realises copying a list without knowing how it's supposed to work is a bad plan.

Blew a Tzeentch summonspam with Slaaneshi chariot madness list off the table with nearly 60% casualties turn 1.

And my Dredd mob manages to blast sway all but one Anti-tank weapon in a WolfWolfWolf list, leaving the marines with rear armour bolters and charges against masse skorcha kans.

They're also fun as they lose.
Only unfun game I've had with orks was when I built a Blood Axes elite list and then got roped into a "oldschool" game where only Troops were scoring and could earn killpoints.

I'm kind of sort of doing a Tzeentch Chaos army for fun, and I want to have a theme of it being a Sorcerer coven but they have a lot of cultists.

The trouble is that as far as I'm aware the only cultist sprues are the same five pack monopose motherfuckers and nothing else.

So obvious I'm going to have to kitbash. Since it's Tzeentch and mutations are cool, I have some Genestealer neophytes that seem like they can fit the bill if I shave off their Genestealerish bits, and maybe do some headswaps for the guys without masks. What other sets and bits can I use for cultists?

Forgeworld has some options, but they'd be resin. Standard guardsmen could also potentially work if you want them to be more renegade militia.

If you're good with 3rd party, Anvil Industries has this neat custom regiment builder where you can get a bulk deal on helmets/torsos/etc to build a big blob of models to fit your cultist look.

You could also look towards the AoS range and find some Chaos minions in there.

If you want melee cultists and go 3rd party, madrobotminiatures has a relatively good selection of 'post apocalyptic' melee weapons; otherwise go anvil industries for ranged cultists.
If you want to only use GW, then imperial guradsmen with the aquilas filed off can work, mixed with chaos marauder bits, but I personally find that doesn't look very good.

Or if you want to go maximum lazy, paint cadians red without filing off anything.
