What does your Rigger do?
Surveillance to the point of paranoia?
Does he work through some kitted out murderbots?
Is he surrounded by a swarm of floating AKs?
Driving faster than most jets?

Hey, at least he'll have a lot of passes to try to get it right. Sammy/driver is one of the better ways to be a wheelman, arguably better synergy than being a droneherder/driver.
>>
Serves as the face's chauffeur when he brings out the sports car for "negotiating" with socialites, we need someone who can drive us to a nightclub without drawing attention from paparazzi.

Drives the guntruck for armor support. Gangers facing a hardened armor APC is not good news.

In places where he cant bring his car he is the one whos goal is to secure disposable wheels. Say a corpsec security vehicle and carry weapons for cqb.

I love the weirdness of Shadowrun history. It went from being pseudo-Tolkien jokes, to an actual fleshed-out 4th World with lots of metaplot and setting details coming through into 3e, and then faded into a numbers-filed-off haze.

Unless your GM is very lenient with repair costs and/or gives out cash like candy you should try to specialize in one
This is why there are two types of riggers: Swarm and Individual Riggers
Swarm riggers have lots of cheap drones that don't cost much to replace, and they use an RCC to issue commands and distribute autosofts to all the drones. They fit the first two questions, with dozens of spy and Suppressive Fire drones
Individual Riggers meanwhile get a few drones but kit them out to be the best and jump into them. They fit the last two questions. They jump into drones to fight through them using a Rigger Interface or jump into vehicles to be faster and more skilled than people using a steering wheel

Well, sure, elves are humans 2.0, now with less aging and more lewd. Thing is, they don't limit it to just elves, they hate/fear orks and trolls too. Probably dwarves as well, though I never really hear much about dwarves so maybe they see them the way corps do - not TOO different and they're usually great workers. And hey, they're shorter than humans!

>>52827947
I guess the best way to describe it is an operator? Someone who's stealthy but can hit like a freight train and take a punch. I'm not really planning on going into rigging, the drone is for added firepower. I plan on turning the wireless off on it and communicating with it through a microtrans. Other than that the build is pretty fluid at this point. I like being somewhat of a skill monkey too. Any tips or critiques would be very welcomed.

>>

>too much karma spent

>>
>>52828027
>>52828053
It's probably herolab being weird about the In Debt quality.
>>
>>52828100
Yeah I had to take in debt and a pretty big in debt for the more skilled build.
>>
>>52827972
In my opinion you're underpowered. Your intuition, agility, and initiative are low for a primary combatant. Skills need to be more focused, you also got to read more about your implants.
You need a better lifestyle too.
>>
>>52828150
>not living in a cardboard box
>>
>>52827972
If you're not going rigging from the get-go, you should probably drop drone. You could also stand to bump down the alphaware on some of the cybernetics, this should save you a lot on cash and you can lower your debt. Which you should also consider not having, as it is pretty shit.
>>
>>52828150
What do you suggest having int, agi? It keeps reporting my secondary weapons license lifestyle as my main lifestyle. my main lifestyle is bolthole with a bunch of addons and shit. I know it's not much better. What do I need to know in particular about the implants? I already said I'm gonna drop the adrenaline pump regardless.

>>52828192
right?

>>52828205
I really like the idea of the drone but you're probably right. I'll also probably lower the cyber grades. I do want to get rid of more of the in debt quality. The only downside is then I need more negatives to make up.

So I wanna try something a little silly. I don't know if it falls under pink mohawk or black trench coat or mirror shades or what (probably depends on how I end up using it) but I wanna make a character with mechdendrite-like robotic manipulator waldoes. My idea so far is basically just modifying a drone with cyberarms and just strapping it to my back. The current character doesn't use implants, but I might consider it for a different character with something similar. Great idea, terrible idea, suggestions, concerns?

Use Medusa Drones from Cutting Aces. You can put them anywhere on the body (the entry talks about some mounted on the head as false dreads, and others hidden up the sleeves) and you can put whatever tiny tools you want on the tips.

Just be sure to get an RCC to run the autosofts, because those things are dumb.

Stick a minitool to the tip and it can do whatever you want it to do. 1 Mod Point per drone means you can rig one with an Fichetti Security 600 for 30 bullets being fired from god knows where as you run for it. Yes. And like the Juicero, you could do it yourself by hand, but the Man has convinced people that they need to buy this thing for the luxury/convenience/proprietary wellness benefits.

Watching that video was a trip. Take the juicer out of the box, download the app on your smartphone, show the juicer your individualized QR code so it knows you have the app and should work now, connect the juicer to your wifi, wait a minute for the juicer to connect to the cloud, show it the QR code on the fruitbag so it knows you're putting the correct product inside it, then close it up, put a glass under the spout, push the single button on the outside of the machine, and wait two minutes for it to squeeze the (already mashed) contents and release all the juice.

It's insane.

This is so frustrating
Using the vehicle mod rules on drones lets you have variety but no survivability
Using drone mod rules from Rigger 5.0 lets you have survivability at the cost of not being able to make a single drone past char gen.
Avail 16f to put Assault Riffle on Nissan and that takes you all your mod points.
Or forbidden to put any armor on your Steel Lynx.
"For some strange reason, people want their drones to survive. Funny, that! Adding armor is frowned upon by polite society"
Thanks CGL
>>
>>52830896
Nope. You can easily turn that shit off. Gear of 2075+ is, however, designed to utilise the matrix for connectivity and processing power - so you lose out on the full features.
>>
>>52831488
5e drones are not intended to stand equal next to the street samurai. They're expensive disposable support, which means you have to get more creative than "muh credsticks" in acquiring them.

>Gear of 2075+ is, however, designed to utilise the matrix for connectivity and processing power - so you lose out on the full features
And that's still retarded and why I don't do Shadowrun 5e. Trolls, Orcs, magic, sure, but it completely wrecks my suspension of disbelief that, in 2075, your augmented arm / eye / gun / dildo has to get its processing power from the cloud.

Yekka, bit of an error in Chummer.

SYNAPTIC ACCELERATION
This gene augmentation improves the functioning ner-
vous system’s sodium-potassium channel depolariza-
tion and repolarization efficiency, thereby increasing
reaction speed. The character gains +1 to their Initia-
tive rating, +1 Initiative Dice, and a +1 dice pool mod-
ifier for all Ranged and Melee Defense Tests. If a char-
acter has an augmentation that increases their Initiative
or grants any Initiative Dice, synaptic acceleration has
no effect, and they do not regain Essence lost for taking
the treatment.

This is actually supposed to stack with magical initiative boosters and drugs, just not other init boosters like Wired or Synaptic Booster, but it currently doesn't.

>>52832058
http://forums.shadowruntabletop.com/index.php?topic=21559.0

Forums just went down since I'd originally looked at it, but there's people saying that it stacks.

For the pseudo-quality version of it, refer to:

LIGHTNING REFLEXES
COST: 20 KARMA
Some people are just born fast. This quality provides an
unaugmented character the ability to react with aston-
ishing speed. The character gains +1 to their Initiative
rating and a bonus initiative die. This quality is not cu-
mulative with any other Initiative enhancement, be it
technological, chemical, or magical. They also receive
a +1 dice pool modifier for all Defense Tests.

It specifically calls out a list which it doesn't interact with, and says ANY initiative boosters.

What are the rules for making a jump or leap?
Otherwise, just make a Gymnastics + AGI test with a GM set threshold based on how crazy of a jump you're attempting. If you fail, you fail to attack because you don't make the jump. If you have martial arts techniques like pouncing dragon they could apply.

The AI is usually rather pleasant and has megacorp allies, so the reason it specifically hates your players is a mystery.

There are two types of 'ware.

There's Bioware, which is Bioware, Cultured Bioware, Geneware, Symbionts, Cosmetic Bioware, Bioweapons, and anything else biological.

There's Cyberware, which is Cyberware, Nanoware, Nanocybernetics, and all the other artificial bits.

That's literally how it breaks down. It's how it's worked since fucking forever.

>>52849234
Personally it's on my soft veto list, but that's largely due to an argument that rose after two of my players both made skill-monkey charactrers but the guy who went with skillwires was completely outclassed by the guy who blew edge and kept recasting until he got 10+ hits on the spell and jammed it into a sustaining focus, then did it again and again until he ran out of foci.

Yekka, Chummer desperately needs a function to allow people to properly upgrade qualities for PCs. For example, if you have Focused Concentration 3, you can't upgrade it to Focused Concentration 4 without deleteing the entire quality and needing to pay for that, then paying for it entirely anew.
>>
>>52850687
As far as RAW is concerned, you can't upgrade qualities anyway. Raise it as an enhancement request on the github, I'll take a look at what I'd need to do for it when I've got some time spare.

No, you can buy different levels of qualities depending on how much karma you're willing to pay out. There's no way to upgrade qualities in game, just buy off negative ones as per RAW.

See, what you're doing is applying logic and reason to CGL rules. That's where you fucked up.
>>
>>52851416
>A player may also purchase Positive qualities for his character at any time during game play. The cost for purchasing a Positive quality during game play is the listed Karma cost x 2.

Your mistake was in thinking that purchasing a quality != purchasing a quality rank.

>HIGH PAIN TOLERANCE
>COST: 7 KARMA PER RATING (MAX RATING 3)

>>
>>52851518
Yes, but only at chargen. You can't upgrade that during play.
>>
>>52851533
Disregard, didn't fully read. Yeah, I forgot about being able to buy qualities at double cost. You rarely get enough of it in game to make buying qualities at 100% markup to be worth more than skills or attributes or getting rid of a negative quality.

>>52851518

OH, sorry. I've caught up to what you meant now.

Under most cases it would just be additive, so you'd take another instance of Rating 1 or whatever. HPT is a bit of a bugbear in that it's not allowed to stack with a bunch of other stuff, so it had to be blocked. Best I can say is that's not my code, it's hardly the weirdest decision Adam ever made. Whenever I get around to implementing quality ratings instead of the current ugly hack it'll be sorted out, but I intended to have shapeshifters done by New Year's and that's slipped a bunch.

>>52852682
Exactly. Then drag down the team and complain like it wasn't their own damn choice.
>>
>>52852682

>>
Anyone got an idea about how smartguns work while jumped into a drone? Do they just work, or do you need something special? Smartsoft is required for the drones themselves to use smartguns, but while jumped in you're not using the autosofts of the drone, so that seems weird.
>>
>>52852667
Because the relatability of a character both to the players and the setting is the closest you get to an objective mark of quality.
A few elements that stand out about a character are good, because they help the character evolve and give players tools to play them. The problems start when the snowflakes become so special that they're dominated by them not fitting into the universe and being different from everyone else.
When the most defining point of a character becomes that they're special, they become one-sided, because instead of having points that are understandable, engaging and relatable to the player and the rest of the group (commonly known as "feeling like a person"), they're defined mostly by the act of not fitting in. Their main gimmick is that the setting doesn't have room for them and they're always special in a way, which makes the character harder to empathize with, harder to find hooks for and harder to see as a person.
If the character has more common points with the setting and the players, they become easier and more satisfying to play - a player can use their own experience with human emotions to play a moving and fun character instead of fumbling in the dark to create an "alien" character who's unempathizable and stressful to play. Instead of creating a pixie, who're defined by not fitting into the universe and being "special", you could create an ork who comes bundled with hundreds of opportunities to interact with the setting and distinguish themselves by virtue of having a whole race that they can reflect themselves off. A character who's unique also stands alone, because the setting isn't built to give them anything to play with, and might in fact clash - the only way they have to interact with the setting is to antagonize it.
These characters are often played by people who equate attention with fun, and become frustrated when their character falls into the background for being unable to constructively interact with the world.
>>
So I'm coming in last to a black trenchcoat team with a Sniper/Team Leader, Stealthy Street Sam and a Rigger. Is it possible to make a character who can handle the Cyber and Astral realms? Is there any point in doing so?
>>
>>52852775
If your GM understands Shadowrun, he'll know that runners aren't hired for stuff the Johnson knows they can't do, and making him purely Matrix-oriented would be better for the group's balance, as Matrix security is a lot more common, especially on jobs that require no mages, than magical security.
If he plays 5e, he's already bought into a system that attempts to gut cyberware and any non-magical solutions through dirty gamist tricks, and he'll likely throw Force 10 spirits at you from the first run to punish you for not being able to interact with the current metaplot even the tiniest bit.

Yes, but the question is how much you're willing to compromise one, the other, or both.

Using a commlink and dongles (or, cheesier still, a stealth tag and persona firmware), you can get into decking at a fraction of the price.

If you don't mind only bargaining with spirits and not having automatic services, then there's The Calling Ritual, which can be performed by anyone with the appropriate knowledge (5 karma per spell per spirit type) and materials. (get a decent talismonger) Even mundanes can do this.

A lot of players fell in love with the high skill, high cooperation set up of the team in the movie. Later writers took inspiration from it, listed it and Ronin as inspirations.

Maybe back in 2050s but from the mid 60s onward Ghouls were actually able to apply for citizenship in the UCAS.

Vampires are easy enough to hide and probably find enough willing victims in form of vampire fanatics.
>>
>>52826719
If I wanted to run a very short campaign, I'd probably make the payday gang PCs and just have the players pick a team for a bank heist. They've got a fun safehouse, a diverse set of skills, and are unashamedly ready to go loud at any moment.

Nonsense. Shadowrun was Black Ops from the very start.
In the first edition they even specifically say that shadowrunners are an urban myth to the public.

But in the end, Shadowrun still has magic, orks and elves who download secret paydata from dragon corp bosses, so it will never not be goofy.

If anything, Shadowrun became less black trenchcoat in 4 and 5.

Honestly it's gotten goofier over time. The turning point was maybe Year of the Comet when they added magical catgirls, because that's about when it became impossible to play it straight without ignoring things.
>>
>>52860224
I dunno, I feel like it was pretty goofy in 1e where your Dwarf decker could be allergic to Silver and Sunlight (also includes X-rays), possibly fatally so.

Or make an ork street sam that's not only Iron allergic (meaning his weapons and the weapons of others) but also Plastic allergic (meaning synthetics as a whole, including his 'ware and most ballistic armor).

Granted, it's probably at the nusicence level, but it's also possible for your street sam to have been fatally allergic to his own stuff.

Do human parents still have a chance to give birth to Elves and Dwarves, decades after the "Awakening"?

Did the frequency drop off, did it go to zero? I am having a hard time finding info on this.
>>
>>52860562
AFAIK, yes. Just as two meta parents have a chance to give birth to a human child, two human parents can give birth to a meta child.
It all depends on the mana level at the moment of conception and during pregnancy.
The genes for elves or dwarves might be there but may not be expressed. So they might be expressed in the parents but not the child, or silent in the parent but expressed in the child.

But usually the child is one of the parent's metatype
>>
>>52860562
It's either implied or stated that every baby is a roll of the dice at this point. Two humans could give birth to an elf, a troll and an elf could give birth to a dwarf, etc.
>>
>>52860562
It's still possible, just rarer. Because for most of post-Earthdawn history, humans, elves, dwarves, orks, and trolls were interbreeding a lot.

Now it's not nearly as common, but it's possible to have two humans with no known metahumans in the nearby family tree to have elf kids.

In the right circumstances, it is possible to have an immediate family that has all the metahumans in it.
>>
>>52860663

Fifth. Doesn't mean they weren't sentient before that, though. Dzoo were also playable in 4e.
>>
>>52861605
Editions start on the new decade.

6 in Magic should be brought in line with a 6 in other attributes.

Bring back compulsory free negative qualities. Awakened can pick from Sensitive System or Cyber Snob.
Increased cost by Magic is only going to catch out Mages and high Magic Adepts.

Bringing 'ware costs into line with other attribute augmentations was a good idea. The problem was that it wasn't done very well.

Auged humans can customise to 6 and enhance to 9. That's on par with the peak of natural human capabilities, given exceptional attribute, metagenetic improvement, and (natural) genetic optimisation.

>Rest
... Nah. Needs change, but you're not fixing, just pushing 6e to fuck up in new and different ways.

I say this every time, but:

New Megas or vastly transformed familiar ones

Fewer mission books and more location based sourcebooks like from third edition. I'm so tired of Seattle I could scream.

Advance the plot. It feels like the setting has grown somewhat stagnant, and despite the million-and-one side plots and blurbs stuffed in between rules and game mechanics they don't really go anywhere or effect anything.

Make the Matrix rules less time intensive. There shouldn't be half a dozen rolls to hack the toaster in the corporate break room.
>>
>>52862592
CFD may need to go, but there's a difficulty with actual tech progression given Shadowrun's current tech. It's not that far until you're spilling over into transhuman stylings and cyberpunk is in the rear view.
>>
>>52863056
>It's not that far until you're spilling over into transhuman stylings and cyberpunk is in the rear view.

And I don't necessarily think that would be a bad shift at this point. Give us another Comet and bring SURGElings to the forefront. Make them a base metarace along with the elves, orks, dwarves, trolls, and humans. Have Evo gain success in making genemodding chic and trendy.

And that's fine. They can only stretch out Cyberpunk in a timeline so long before the stasis turns it into WH40k. And last I checked, cyberpunk didn't have magic in it, so calling SR cyberpunk is a bit of a stretch to begin with.
>>
>>52863183
I'd rather see a 2050 reboot. Not that the idea has no merit, but if I want Eclipse Phase or Nova Praxis, I'll go play Eclipse Phase or Nova Praxis.

By the time the playable setting has been going for 3 decades, characters have lost first hand experience of most of the original material anyway. Night Of What? VITAS - some kind of vitamin supplement? Even if they have heard of it, there's no longer the visceral connection to the greatest number of simultaneous human/metahuman hate crimes in history, the loss of a quarter of the world's population (skewed mostly to Africa, but still), and so on.

I guess a straight up reboot wouldn't be all bad, now that I consider it. It has problems, but it'd allow them to properly re-frame and refresh technology, magic, timelines, etc, without being weighed down by all the bullshit from earlier editions.

Hell, it might actually be a good idea to reboot back to earlier than that even.

FASA did a good enough job the first time around. There's no value in restarting from zero, especially when it's going to be developed by 50% unyielding grognards and 50% kids trying to make it their own by putting their own stamp on it.

I'd far rather see things go forward and watch them try to balance cyberpunk themes with transhuman tech (though we're a long way from there in SR) than watch them redo every splat and module from the 90's.

FASA and everyone involved is long, long gone however. Maybe a new entity? Not sure.

If we were to go the Transhumanist route, I guess I wonder how it would manifest in SR:

A group that personifies Superhuman Psychosis: Evolve or die(by our hands)

A corporate campaign to make people feel bad about being human? (And the pushback groups?)
>>
>>52863624
It's just really awkward to actually advance tech in a setting because it means you have to start just removing things from the game. It'd be much more feasible if they were willing to make multiple games to represent different moments in the timeline but I don't think CGL has the will or really, the discipline to pull that off. So to a certain extent if they want people to keep up with the direction the game is going, a certain level of stasis is just necessary.

EVO seems like it's going in that direction. Easy to imagine splinter groups funding transhuman/pro-changeling-and-metasapient terrorists, especially with the influence of Yakut and Buttercup behind the scenes.

>>52863764
I've got no problem with the 2050's sourcebook, and republishing some old adventures with new mechanics. I just don't think that they can or should do a total reboot of the entire story.

And what would need to be removed as time moved forward, in the grand scheme of things? Obviously political entities could and should change, but I think the world is a long way off from scrapping cyberware, for example, while still having room to do stuff like expanding the criminally ignored symbionts.
>>
>>52863764
If they did something like Modiphius did with Mutant Chronicles 3e, with a core book with identifiers that tell you what's available in each time period, and then a setting supplement or two for each time period covered. Maybe some location supplements that cover all time periods.
>>
