Help /wip/! I don't have a workspace at school and have been working on my wood dresser. Now there's a shitload of dried glue all over it. What do I do?
>>52780845
>>52780890
I've been looking for googly eyes in my house off and on since I built it on Saturday and I've come up dry.
Does anyone have a conversion guide for the no-way-in-hell-will-this-be-acknowledged-by-forgeworld version of the Mk II armor from Collected Visions? I'm a plastic loving poorfag but I own up to it and still want to make the extra effort at presenting my models properly where it counts.
Probable uses include:
>Volkite veteran/support squad, old guard legionaries who held on to their gear form the days of the solar compliance
>DIY Early Crusade Honors Centurion, for much the same reason (is their anything stopping them from buying gear on top of their MC fist+bolt pistol?)
>battle buddy for my official forgeworld MK II apothecary because I find the idea funny.
I've posted some of these before, but here is my complete Sonnia crew from Malifaux. I'm getting back into it with a brutal emissary which will be the next painted member!

How is Oyumaru or Easycast Silicone Putty as a mold for one-off/small batch of recasting/dupes?
Easycast epoxy resin is gonna be poured into the molds.
Is this fine enough for results? What if I restrict the shape of the mold into a box like what most folks normally do like with legos and stuff?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4shU7dCXUg
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1Z1xwjTo-M
I used to try doing decent dupes with Milliput, but would epoxy resin cause more flash, or is it due to not clamping the mold halves tight enough by those other people?
>>52781488
>Citadel Brushes
You blind mate, they are Winsor and Newton Series 7 and Kolinsky Master
>>52781517
So what I'm seeing as far as visual ques its;
>Paneling, mostly vertical on the torso and legs
>Mk 6 or maybe 4ish if you squint for the backpack
>Gorget flairs slightly outward and has a sort-of crenelation like gap in front, as opposed to the plain guard on the Mk VIII
>Helmet looks like a Mk VII if you replaced the cheek cables with grilling and possibly narrowed the vox grille a bit
>various rivets
Did I miss anything in particular? It also looks like the legs/torso might be 3rd party but I might be imagining that.
>>52781190
Well done, anon. What blue paints are you using here? It pops really well against the black.
>>52781398
Good man. It's saddening to see poor jobs on those models.
>>52781640
I'm a long-time user of Oyumaru and it's great for epoxy casting.
Resin, however, you need to be more careful since the reaction of mixing it creates heat, and most resins create enough heat to deform Oyumaru.
If you're going to do resin, you may as well get into silicone molds instead.
Posted him before, but how's he look? The lighting needs to be touched up in spots but I can't get the right humidity, which is fucking with my detail brush.
>>52781717
Thanks man. This was Lothern Blue with a highlight of Temple Guard Blue and then a drybrush of Skink Blue and just a bit of white here and there.
I probably could have made the effects a lot smoother using an airbrush, but I like the hand painted look you get from drybrushing. I think it fits the Malifaux aesthetic really nicely.
>When people try to tell you that ForgeWorld quality is always the same
This is my third Galatus I've built and each one has been a different shade and color. ForgeWorld is never consistent and this is yet further proof for me
>>52782026
Make sure you use greenstuff to reinforce thost thin areas on the left guy's shield, seeing as they're partially transparent.
>>52782041
Yeah its shoulders, shield, and join where the top armor meets the vents needs it.
Been working on that Aspiring Champion of Nurgle conversion I posted in the last thread.
Originally was one of the Dark Angels from the Dark Vengeance box, trying to make a budget squad for SW: A.
>>52782106
Looks good so far. Have you considered dabbing some Nurgles rot in those pits in the upper tabard and armor?
>>52782172
I have Nurgle's Rot and Typhon Corruption coming in the mail.
Would've just grabbed them at my local store, but eBay just did that "sell something and get a $25 gift card" thing and I made a few accounts. So I had some eBay bucks to spend.
This is how you Poorhammer.
reposting from last thread, then never again
>>52782306
Biggest step is gonna be thinning paints, as well as doing thinner highlights. The librarian doesn't look that bad at all.
>>52780499
Final detailing applied, now I just need to wait for my Technicals and figure out what I'm going to do with his backpack.
Might order an Icon of Nurgle bit on eBay or something.
>>52782414
I'm not a fan of the excessive drybrushing on the chainsword and armour. Makes it look too washed out. You could go over those areas with a glaze of the respective colours to bring the intensity back up.
>>52782402
I do thin paints, but I am a very messy painter so I have to go back and clean up way too much, and my highlights are always way heavy. Even when I'm doing edge highlights with the edge of the brush I glob it on. I see people, even beginners, do it with such gentle finesse that it makes me wonder what makes me press so hard on the brush.
early on I was really missing a lot of colors
>>52782499
I need Lahmian Medium (or any glaze medium) to do that, yeah?
I think some thinned Camoshade over all the drybrushed parts would be good, but I've heard thinning shades with water ruins their surface tension, so I was waiting until I could grab some glaze medium.
>>52782547
Yeah you'll need a medium for that. But it'll look so much better.
>>52782572
I'll get some eventually.
I'm all about improving the look of my minis over time. My biggest weakness as a relatively new painter is that I tend to over-rely on drybrushing in general. Here it's really obvious on the metals because I'm using a combo of Necron Compound and Ryza Rust rather than a metallic basecoat.
>>52782414
Looks nice and filthy
How do I protects styrofoam from supergloo so it doesn't get all nurgly?
>>52782874
PVA/School/Wood glue.
Also protects against spray paint.
So I went out and bought this in order to make terrain and stuff awhile ago and realized I have no idea what to cut it with. What would be good?
Also, would it be okay to spray-prime this or would it melt?

>>52782930
Boxcutter will work just fine.
Doe it have a paper/plastic outer "shell" or is it bare?
If bare I'd advise painting a thing layers of watered down white glue.
>>52782930
If you just want rough edges cut it with YOUR FISTS
>>52781026
Workin on some kekrons ama
>>52782930
It will blunt razors very quickly, but razors will cut it. If you have a heated knife you can shape it very easily, but it releases some super toxic fumes so do it outside and with the proper protection.
Spraying can melt it, but it won't be severe. Still, get some watered down Elmer's glue and seal it up first.
There is a guy on youtube... Terrain Tutor I think he is called? does some very amazing tutorials for working with that stuff. Combine foam with plaster rock molds and wall filler compound for some amazing looking scenery.
>>52782974
I'm not sure if a boxcutter would work. It's like an inch or so thick.
It's hard foam with a very thin plasic/paper shell.
>>52783028
>Terrain Tutor
Is there a video you would recommend that covers it?
>>52783034
Ah 1 inch thickness, that that's a bit more than what i'm used to.
But it's what's used when trimming the boards at work sites, that or one of those insulation knives, though they tear it up

My attempt
What is the absolute best bit online shop? And is eBay the best place to get random bit bags?
>>52780531
My attempt part 2 included boogaloo
>>52783188
>>52783185
if you are in the US ebay is generally the best for specific bits (if you know what you are looking for). If you don't know what you are looking for, browse sprues on the GW site until you do.
If you are in the UK there are a number of good bit sites I'm told, but since I am an amerifat I don't know what those sites are.
If you are looking for bags of random bits? Unsure. Maybe try ebay or asking around at your local gaming club? Most dedicated bit sellers will part out the kits for maximum profits, but buying from randoms might yield interesting stuff.
If a CSM picked up a shield from a fallen SM, would he "x" out the crest, plaster a chaos symbol over it or just not give a shit?
>>52783220
Yes.
>>52783220
Depends on the faction of CSM - some are merely renegade and not chaos.
Crossing out or defacing the crest would likely be a very temporary thing, if they cared to do it at all, and then when they had a chance they would refinish the wargear to be to their liking.
Why does all of the CSM have such amazing trim? When you are in the warp for 10,000 years you really end up with nothing else to do...
>>52783220
Neither, loyalist wargear evaporate if picked up by CSM, just like landspeeders, attack bikes and grav weapons
>>52783218
It seems like the US gets screwed in pretty much everything when it comes to wargaming.
Pre-orders come last, lack of quality terrain sellers, lack of bits sellers, etc. It just sucks.
>>52783244
>Murican complaining about those
Hi from australia you ungrateful cunt
>>52783244
I heard next month this year GW is going to open up third party online retailing (shopping carts and all) of GW products to stores with a brick and mortar location, which was HUGE news when it was announced.
So it is getting better for the US.
As for bit sellers - there are quite a lot of them on ebay, they just use ebay as their store front for legal reasons. That might change after May 3rd, we'll see.
>>52783244
>have a huge country where they can LARP for all they want
>have actual larp stores and stuff
>complain about terrain and tiny bitz
why would you americans play tableotp wargames at all? they were made by Europeans who have little space to larp and so are forced to miniaturize
>>52783303
>go out into the woods to larp
>get shot
yeah no thanks
in the cities where there isn't room for anything, people mostly play MTG or TTRPGs, because there isn't room for wargaming either. The physically huge MTG players take up all the available gaming space all the time seriously wtf
>>52782885
just PVA? how thick should i cover it? will it still hold weight? i.e. won't the PVA layer just come off with the superglued model?
>>52783303
It seems like you've gotten the two backwards, sure the US is big but their LARP scene is a nuclear wasteland.
>>52783340
pva glue is more durable than you give it credit for, especially when applied to porous surfaces like foam. On smooth surfaces it peels easily.
>>52783340
It wont hold a metal Daemon prince on a vertical wall, but shot of that it'll hold as well as the foam itself,
>>52783347
ain't they got that awesome perpetual LARP city somewhere in Canada?
>>52783268
Australia has quite a few terrain sellers and stuff for its size. America has nothing of note.
>>52783303
Larping is lame. Why would I want to go out into the woods and smack people with a foam sword? And I 100% guarantee you can easily do it in Europe, too. Cosplaying would be better, if anything.
>>52783409
>Larping is lame. Why would I want to go out into the woods and smack people with a foam sword? And I 100% guarantee you can easily do it in Europe, too. Cosplaying would be better, if anything.
Reductio ad absurdum, rebuttal: plastic dollies with bad rules.
>America has nothing of note.
America has no good centralised sites, all just local groups and people collectively deciding "it would be nice but I'm sure someone else will do it"
>>52783445
Eh, the rules aren't so bad. What's wrong with dolls?
>>52783218
Thanks mate. I may ask around but yeah a grab bag seems like it might be fun.
>>52783224

What do you guys do when you suddenly have in idea for conversion, and it's a cool one, and you really wanna do it, but you realise that the cost of bits alone will be staggering and too large for the number of models you gonna get in the end?
>>52783509

>>52783511
At the moment if you want to order official GW products from a third party retailer you have to go through a horrible process or emails and tickets. Now you would be able to just use a normal cart system like most websites.
This system would also allow you to order online-only products that GW sells from real third-party stores.

my celestine. she's probably around 90% done. just trying to get the blade to a point i like, as well as the eyes. other than that just some last minute detailing and highlights, and then the base of course. this photos a little dated. i've since touched up the blade a bit.
>>52783839
Yeah, it's an odd looking piece. I'm gonna use for a gross demon arm but like to know where weird bits come from.
>>52780531
looks like a catfish, and i love it
should I paint the fingers of this powerfist the same teal as the power axe?
>>52783851
Don't know if it was you intention for the wings to be off-white but it looks like the feathers could do with cleaning up, looks like they haven't had enough thin coats and the black is still showing through.
>>52784097
It wasn't intentional, but I am aware of it.
I painted them white, and then did a wash with a dark blue ink, and then more white, but I'm finding that I have to continually paint over it because my white is too thin or something.
>>52784093
I'd make em gold.
What kit is this? Interested in a lot of the parts.
>>52784128
Sorry to disappoint, but those are the monopose Chaos Chosen from the Dark Vengeance kit.
>>52783851
Did you highlight your metallics with white?
>>52784175
Yeah. I think most of the armor is runefang steel or something, seraphim sepia, and then a white edge highlight.
The sword is where I am having the most trouble. I usually just use leadbelcher, nuln oil, and then necron compound and white, but this time i wanted to try and make a reflective surface using just flat colors.
>>52784188
obviously i still need to clean up a lot of the edging.
slowly gettin there
not sure how i feel about the daemon melta
>>52784188
Why, for the love of god, would you highlight a metallic colour with a nonmetallic? And white of all things.
>>52784353
That's just what i was taught for some reason. with a thin enough line it looks like natural light. what do you do?
a tall monster model has just 3 tiny places where it connects to base
how do I prevent it from breaking off, falling and quite likely breaking?
>>52784301
You're doing a great job anon! I think you may want to add rivets to your arrows to make it more chaos-like and less orkish.
>>52784395
mm, many thanks! great idea! though i might end up taking off some the arrows anyway
ive put on and torn off so many things on this project haha
>>52784404
You're in a good place right now, but I really think smaller rivets on the arrow pieces is all you need.
Either way I think it'll look fantastic once you're done painting it.
Which legion are you going for?
>>52784371
>thin enough line
Maybe for NMM and as a super extreme for properly done metallics, but not the way you're doing it.
I recommend using silver paints with different brightness for one. Like Leadbelcher, Runefang Steel, Ironbreaker and Stormhost silver. And it's hard to tell, but did you also try to highlight straight gold with white there on her vambraces?
>>52784435
You've posted this before, what's the difference?
>>52784301
Looks good, apart from the daemonic melta: the two top spikes make it look like a daemon-rabbit.
>>52784421
time to work on some greenstuff rivet techniques woo!
im aiming for Iron Warriors, which is probably why im so torn on a lot of these designs
>>52784482

>>52784482
>im aiming for Iron Warriors

>>52784507
thanks friend! honestly its one of my favorite parts
my philosophy is to try and use subtlety and avoiding making it look too messy but still industrial and... iron warriors-ey
>>52784156
Hell, that's fine. DV has a lot of Chaos stuff I want. May need to get.
working on a Herald of Nurgle
>>52784813
also, which weapon arm looks more fitting with the giant bell?
>>52784819
Three bells seems a bit much (why bells? Don't know Nurgle) but I also don't like that sword.
Painted this guys over the weekend.
Deciding what to colours for the hat. Purple, white brown and orange have already been used by other models.
>>52784819
B I'd say.
>>52784371
that isn't a thin enough line whatsoever. Highlight gold with either brighter golds or silver.
>>52783851
That looks like enamel, are you using enamel paints?
Ayup lads, it's me again. Fiddled around with some bits trying to find what suits my project the best. I'll try to thin the gut a bit and resculpt it.
The arm on top of the hat seems goofy, but it might work. I'll post quad-angle in a minute. Not too sure about the heavier gun from the Dominus, either. Might save that for another fig.
Shown here are some extra cables to see what'll look better in case I go with the Servo-skull, a shoulder pad to cover the left-hand arm, some extra gubbins and some armour that I might implement on the front. Skitarii legs for the feet that are going to get removed. Disregard the heads, they're for similar projects.
>>52784916
And the other picture. I think I'm on to something Dark Mechanicus here. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
>>52784836
>Three bells seems a bit much (why bells? Don't know Nurgle)
bells are because in some parts of Nurgle lore, his followers are also Jolly, and I imagine that the "carnival of Nurgle" has something in thought with it. Like making music for the dying men.
What weapon do you think could work, then?
>>52784861
aight
>>52784916
>>52784926
arm on the head is fine
not sure about the big gun
other than that - completely and utterly awesome!
>>52784916
>>52784926
I like the design, as well as what you're going for.
Personally, I would remove the staff-arm and change the heavy-weapon from the Dominus to something else.
>>52784942
Well from my limited knowledge of Nurgle, I'd say a scythe.
Doing some non-40k for a change.
>>52784974
he's gonna hold the bell-mace in one hand, though. I don't think one can dual-wield both that and a scythe at the same time.
So I'm interested in getting Dark Vengeance, purely for the Chaos stuff. On eBay, I could get all the Chaos parts for around $60. Should I do that or just pay an extra $40 and get a sealed box instead? I doubt I'd fully build the Dark Angels and would probably use their parts for other things.
>>52785011
Ah, wasn't aware it was two hand only. Sorry anon.
>>52784916
>>52784926
Wait, the Nurgle Sorcere isn't metal anymore?
>>52785058
You shoulda seen the little shitstorm in the thread when I presented my idea. Yes, the figure is in resin. This is both good and bad. It makes trimming off smaller details much easier (the maggots emerging from the back part of his robe, for example) but it also makes other parts ever so frail. The staff was actually meant to get cut off higher, but it snapped off as I was holding it and bringing my cutters to bear. If anybody wants an extra Nurgly staff-topper this Chrimbus, let a man know.
>>52784813
Love the look you got going for him!
>>52784819
I'd say B. One can never have to many bells.
>>52785099
I call dibs!
>>52785146
Three IS Nurgle's number.
... How hard would it be to reshape a helmet to look like a cracked bell?
>>52784942
>>52784944
>>52784961
Much appreciated. The kink seems to be the big Dominus gun - any suggestions on what to replace it with?

>>52783851
THIN. YOUR. PAINTS.
>>52790046
The lights are 110V plastic LED tubes and I can wipe them down without worrying about it if that's what you mean. I am going to paint the top of the tub white and add a little awning kind of thing so that the tubes don't shine right in your eyes if that is what you mean. Even then, the light is pretty well diffused already since the LED strip is on the top of the tubes shining down.
Suction, yes. I'm planning to set up a cross draft with about 350-400 CFM, but I haven't entirely settled on the final design yet. I found some IP67 dust and waterproof computer fans. The plan is to install them into the back and move the air into a plenum, which will probably be a smaller plastic tub pop riveted on the back.
Building a looted Carnifex for use as a Deff Dredd.
I felt like making it a sort of minimalist design with a Dino-Riders-y mind control cap instead of any kind of rider.
The braid of copper cables reach from the cap up to the antenna, so I'll need a Big Mek with a large remote control...
>>52790399

>>52790439

>>52790498
It's included more as insurance. A single rokkit on a Deff Dred won't do much, but it gives me the option of giving a rokkit instead of the fourth power klaw if I need to save those last few points.
I think I'll mostly be running it with 4 claws for extra killy.
Also, it looks pretty cool up there.
>>52790439
You want skorchas on dreads, not rokkets.
leave rokkets to kans, or TLs like buggies and koptas.
>>52790482
They are T8 tubes, but they have started to produce these LED direct wire drop in replacements. You can pull the ballast and drop these into any standard 110V fluorescent fixtures.
But, when I got these for another project, I snagged some cheap T8 lampholders: Leviton 13351, and routered out some holes in the top so that they could pop through the tub. I was actually going to use them to refurb an old drafting lamp, but I bought them without checking my measurements and they are too long, so that is on hold until they produce 18 inch LED tubes or I figure something else out, idk which will happen first.
>>52790659

>>52790979
Well now I have both, so I can tailor my choice to what I face. Best of all worlds, no?
I face plenty of guard and necron where the skorcha will help, and for other matchups the occasional rocket hits will be nice.
My current WIP, testing out how viable it is to use a sharpie for golds, seems ok so far. I tidied up all the edges with blue earlier, and they are looking decent. This is my second ever large army.
>>52790979
You're wasting a turn using a melee monster to shoot a krak missile when it could instead run closer.
A skorcha at least gives it melee protection via overwatch at worst, and at best fries a bunch of things.
It's like if you could take a powerklaw in a squad of lootas; a suboptimal idea.

>I'm working on how to make my own hot foam wire cutter out of an old laptop power brick, but I haven't figured out the details yet like what gauge and length of wire to get the temp I am looking for. I may end up just buying one.
That sounds like a cool project just to make for the hell of it, but if you are actually going to use the foam wire cutter I'd buy a real one for reliability.
Although if you're just slicing up boulders or cliffs, it doesn't really matter how shitty your foam cutter is as long as it's safe to use and has a reliable current.
I'm making a lot of progress on my bro's Chaos Daemons army. His larger units are magnetized because they're for both Fantasy Battle and 40k (we're mostly Fantasy Battle guys though), with circle movement trays for his infantry. It's going to be a dipped army since otherwise it'd take like another year and a half to get it finished (and that's if I stopped working on my own models), but I'm painting his HQ units (Daemon Prince and Skulltaker + Juggernaut) the old fashioned way because it'd be a shame not to (the Daemon Prince has been finished for a while now, save for magnetizing the base).
I tried something new with the Flesh Hounds to make them lower-profile than the Seekers. I got a flatter magnet and spread some Apoxie Sculpt over it to make a flat, smooth piece to mount the model to. I traced around it with paint on both bases and covered them with pebbles and sand outside of the footprint. It works out very nicely and the gap is pretty subtle. The Seekers were done a fair bit longer ago using cork board to conceal the magnets, which were a fair bit thicker. In hindsight the magnets we used were kind of overkill due to their size and strength, but they get the job done. As long as he doesn't bring his army to a machine shop with magnetic metal dust everywhere I don't think it'll be a problem.
>>52791255
Oh, did they add running for everything where you could move 12 and not shoot at all? That used to be Eldar only or some shit. I haven't played 40k since 3rd edition. I didn't realize that 40k it had degenerated to that point.
That said, if you min-max every unit and only play shit-tier pitched battle slaughterfests, you are right, but you make target priority an easy choice for your enemy. If your units are more balanced, they can be a threat to multiple things. A 5 point flamer in a squad isn't wasting a shot when you are firing at something out of range, it is increasing the tactical flexibility of that unit as a whole.
Min maxing is generally overkill, but who am I? I'm the guy whose only 40k army is footslogging Sisters of Battle that I refuse to play using GW's objectively bad ruleset since GW has degenerated into a "model selling" company.
>>52794267
>footslogging Sisters of Battle that I refuse to play using GW's objectively bad ruleset
Do you use another ruleset or do you just refuse to play in general?

It has a lot of the shit that I wanted out of 4th ed like one unit for each side activating at a time, rejection of badly balanced bullshit points values (so, figure out balance or imbalanced scenarios as you see fit), an umpire as a standard element, generic troop profiles.
I bought a big lot of the old metals from eBay before they dropped that shite shite shite e-Codex and had started filling it out from their online store so I could run two full squads of 20 for my troops choices and a squad of three penitent engines for one of my heavy choices (I have one built, and still have one NIB sitting around). I got about 8 sticks of it for 10 bucks and the molds seem to stay solid for as long as you need em depending on the complexity of what your casting, the beautiful thing about it is you can throw the molds into hot (just boiled) water and it will soften up kind of like a mouth guard and you can reshape it to make other molds

Try adding a pin or two? That's what I had to do with my daemon Prince wings.
I finally started painting the skeleton horses for my Black Coach and got one of them done today.
I'm putting a fair bit more work into these than I did with my black knight horses because there's only two of them, and they play such an important role with the model. I dabbed a bunch of liquid green stuff onto the fabric parts with a brush to give it the look of weathered cloth before I primed it, which gave me something to dry-brush as a finishing touch.
Any tips for a first time green stuff user? I'm looking to buy a package of it to convert my regular Chaos marines into Death Guard. Should I just be giving a lot of them pot bellies and throwing some stuff onto the shoulders for pustules and things like that? How would I go about getting a kind of boils and plague like texture? I was recommended using a thin straw to poke circles in the green stuff once applied
>>52798842
For some reason it didn't occur to me that I could dry-fit my Black Coach and horses together using blue-tack, and I got the idea because of this anon's post >>52795095. Now I actually know how this crazy thing is going to fit together and I feel a lot more inspired to finish it.
I am definitely going to need to pin some things, though-- no way in hell I'm going to trust this all to a few drops of superglue. I took lots of photos and I think I know where the pins need to go. I have a few tricks for figuring out pin placement out, too.

Official ones are bundles with boxes, you can get them in all sorts of colour on the third party market though.
Trying my hand at layering washes mixed with paint at a 1:1 ratio. Trying to get a red leather coat look. Opinions.

i think i want to do the front plate like this quick paintover/concept where it's the iconic colors and a IW transfer
i already scraped off the rivets too and im debating just taking off the daemon melta entirely and using it elsewhere
the top spikes im not happy with either, but i have an idea to make it more chaos-spikey than ork-spikey (hopefully)
a few chains here and there and im happy... maybe

>greenstuff is bendy and can't hold an edge worth a damn
is there anything else a gentleman can use for recasting stuff?
something more like plastic or resin. so it can have fine details and still look crisp and not break at a sneeze
