First for something fishy going on here
>>
First for the 9th (who did nothing wrong)
>>
Is the Pallas good for anything bikes don't do better?
>>
Custodes run Stormbirds in the lore, would it be cheesy of me to add one in to my Custodes force?
>>

>>
>>52651361
You are not wrong.
>>
>>52651470

Sandwich for emperor.
>>
>>52651435
Honestly anything that isn't a Titan is probably worse than just taking more Custodes tanks, so feel free. Combining unkillable flying death with all the unkillable tank death and unkillable infantry death all resting on a bed of solid brie is probably going to induce some salt, though.
>>
>>52651652
If someone gave me the choice between me fighting their Reaver Titan with D spamming versus a maxed out Stormbird, you better believe I'm fighting the giant ass flyer instead that won't eat me every damn turn
>>
>>52651652
The mental image of slamming a cheese Tribune with 14-15 Paragon Hetaeron and a Galatus out of a now hovering Stormbird is hilarious. Watching it fire an Orbital Strike into anything that could cause serious harm to it is also worth the price of admission alone.

Obligatory "what are you working on today"-post. I just finished the first five terminators.
>>
>>52651781
respect to your dedication and relentless progress, mortarion would be proud. "a man may paint a legion if only given a brush and the dedication to paint again and again." and whatnot.
>>
>>52651732

Bait taken, kill-zone created. Prepare for the Str10 and D on your expensive stuff.

>Being a fuckwit this bad

It's about having fun, not being a dick.
>>
>>52651904
>Being a dick to someone wanting to run a Stormbird

Nah don't be that guy
>>
>>52651689

I agree, because I'm Magos Whale-stormbird, so I encourage as many people as possible to steal crazy big things and give them different paint jobs, especially with how shit the FW Stormbird is painted in some of the pictures.

>>52651732

When I came up with the idea I was thinking of doing the same with Scoria, some Ursarax, a few packs of Myrmidons to hop out the side and rear hatches and a Droplite team, although because of the way the rules are written I can't carry Automata or vehicles. Do you think people would let me use Castellax instead of Dreadnoughts? They'd probably fit.

>>52651781

I have now moved house, so I'm looking through all the boxes to get my bedroom and desk into some semblance of order before I start cracking open my hobby boxes and checking nothing got damaged from a 20 minute drive with padding, which is probably unlikely.
>>
>>52651435
Custodes with assault vehicles is cheese, so yes.
>>
>>52651989
In super lax games I'd count them as Dreads, but that's it. By RAW you can't at all, but there's no harm in being kind.
>>
>>52651351
If these guys aren't working for Prefecture Magisterium Magos Gadget then there's seriously something wrong
>>
>>52652005
>An army using their own equipment is cheese

Next you're gonna say running 15 Terminators out of a Thunderhawk is cheesy.
>>
>>52652021
Well, any game where I'm running through the web of slightly dodgy rules to bring the thing is unlikely to be anything but super lax, so yey.
>>
>>52652042
Well, death guard using phosphex quad guns is cheese. You can be fluffy and cheesy at the same time.
>>
>>52652042
Um.
>Eldar WK and Scatbikes and Spiders
>Tau Riptidespam
>Ironfire
>War Convocation
>Titans in Levi FoC
>Phosphex Mortars

All of those are fluffy as fuck and use"their own equipment" a damn sight more than taking units that flat out aren't in the army list or allowed anywhere else. Doesn't stop them being cheese as fuck.
>>
>>52652031
No, but their Alpha Hercule-001 is a mean mammajamma. That squad has served me really well, I haven't named all of them but each is unique. I like the idea of each being named after famous detectives.

How do reggo Skitarii actually get named, anyway? I always just picked a name and stuck some numbers/letters onto it

Riptides are super expensive to produce, using an extremely rare nanocrysatalline armour that makes them light enough to jump around and have a 2+, not to mention that the suit is only given to the most veteran of fire warriors

War convo is supposed to be the mechanicum digging up their relics for an important cause, only fluffy for big games

Wraithknights are just irredeemable

I wouldn't call them fluffy as fuck but all of the above work out well in games of about 2000 points+

>>52652248

Yeah, but you get my point. Custodes away from Terra is about as rare as a few of those things right there, they're the least Your Dudes army since OldCrons or possibly Nids IMO. There's certainly more Custodes miniatures than there are Custodes in 30k, which is cool in a way.
>>
>>52651781

>>

>Alpha Hercule-001
Nice. Who else have you got? Marlowe, Holmes, Constantine?

Skitarii get named however their boss wants to name them, or however their Forge World's naming schema usually go. The 3 we have names for are:
Alpha 9-Thyrrc
Rho-mu 31
Arook Serotid

So that tells us nothing.

I just thought Prefecture Magisterium would make sense for a magos in charge of them, given that that's the Admech/Mechanicum secret police
>>
>>52652680
Also Haldron-44 Stroika. Yeah, seems like name-number name is normal, but mostly it's a"whatever sounds cool" situation.
>>
>>52652521
You can always take allied LOW for any 30k faction unless it has requirements such as Loyalists/Traitors or army profile requirements.

30k is very fast and loose at times, so there's that.
>>
Do Knight Errants benefit from Legion specific rules?
>>

>Custodes being super rare
Different anon, but that's my problem with them, they have no real room for your dudes and because of how recent fluff makes them out to be, I don't like them as a faction

It's a shame though because aside from select cheese, I do really like their rules and models, to the point were I'm going to use the rules and models as extremely enhanced black shields marines. Would this be super autism triggering though?
>>
>>52652831
>Would this be super autism triggering though?
Yes.

Mostly it will look like you want to play on the cheap (low model count, plastic) and with borderline OP rules.
>>
>>52652680
Yeah, so far I've got;

>Axiarch Columbus
>606-Marlowe
>Magnum-442
>317-Spencer (i always liked Psych)

Other guys I'm thinking of are Dick Tracy, Sam Spade, and Nero Wolffe. Should be fun naming them all
>>
>>52652563
Thanks buddy, looks great!
>>
>>52652706
Yeah, pretty much, though if that's a reference I have no idea what it's to
>>
>>52652762
IMO mostly no, he's got the Legiones Astartes rule for regrouping at full Ld and that, but doesn't have the Legiones Astartes (Specific Legion) rule. It'll come down to how the rules are written for a particular ROW, but most specify that they affect models with the LA (Legion) rule, not just the LA rule. If that makes sense.
>>52652811
If I remember correctly, someone asked Bligh about whether you could use a knight errant to prevent terminators scattering at some event or other and he said no (the rule represents the knight errant sneaking onto the battlefield, not doing a precise teleport). But I don't think it's ever been officially stated because that's how forgeworld roll.
>>
>>52652831
Yes. It's too much to have them count as augmented black shields. It'd be like that guy posting in here a few weeks ago trying to do a thunder warrior thing with black shields. Too much of a stretch for most players I think.

So Arik, his friend Ghota, and perhaps a small handful of other thunder warriors survived the cull. Out of them all, isn't Arik the only one to have extended his own life by stealing an astartes progenoid gland and modifying it to suit his own genetic makeup.

I think that's why it's a stretch to have dozens of thunder warriors running around on a tabletop when one, maybe 2 could have survived to the times of the heresy.

If you were trying to cite something from that passage, I must have been blind and not have seen it. The only time that I recall custodes being somewhere not Terra is with the emperor when he isn't on Terra, or assigned to extremely important missions. I highly doubt a custodes contingent would be given to some random company of Astartes, not taking into account fluff

I would love them being elsewhere to be the case, but I feel like as a faction currently, their lore makes them extremely restrictive in terms of how you could portray them

How do volkite beams penetrate armour? Why specifically do they react with biological matter differently than other matters?
>>
>>52654094
Well they're an extension of the Emperor's Will; it doesn't exactly strike me as uncommon for them to be sent out in force to key battles, even if it's a squad of five all the way to a Thousand.

There's so much left unspoken during the Heresy that they can be all over.

>>
>>52655222
There's literally only ten thousand of them, minus quite a lot for the War in the Webway and earlier on for Prospero, and we've seen that a squad of five assigned to a Primarch was considered odd. They weren't running errands all over the place, that's the Knights Errant. If your opponent kills a Tribune or Hetaeron squad that's a crippling blow to an elite core of either a couple dozen or few hundred warriors, there's way too few to justify deployment in force anywhere without the Emperor or on Terra. Why are they fighting Solar Auxilia regiment#27483 or some random PDF MaC army, or in my case a fleet holed up miles away in what was once Xanatite space? There's hardly any reason for one of them to be somewhere, let alone a battlegroup..
>>
>>52655313
Melta's melt EVERYTHING, and not just heat up the armour enough so that what's inside bursts into flames.

>>52655374
I think that dude is burning that banner on purpose.
>>
>>52655313
Melta is a vaporiser weapon, it excites molecules to their disintergration point. This results in a visual reaction to the heat energy produced by their molecular bonds collapsing, so you get the effect of whatever you've hit with a melta igniting and exploding at the same time.
Which is why they say people kind of melt and flash into steam when hit by one, the water in their body goes explosively bye-bye even as their physical form disintegrates.

Volkite is an actual conductive heat beam, so the above anon's example explains how deflagrate works, the heat is so intense that things with lower resistance to extreme heat break down first, even if the directed beam hit, say, armour instead of the thing inside it, it could not pen the armour but still kill the dude by explosive heat injuries.

>tl;dr - Melta: microwave-based disintegrator weapon, Volkite: some kind of sci-fi conductive heat beam that appears as a laser, think directed electricity with huge heat energy
>>
>>52655209
Why is he holding a bundle of dynamite?

>"Nobody move or I'll religion of peace this place!"
>>
>>52655449
To put it simply, meltas fire intense heat (there's two types, a microwave variant and a fusion reaction one that vents the heat out the muzzle) that just melts shit in an instant, making it great at blasting through armour. Volkites probably have trouble heating up inorganic matter, but are great at igniting people and stuff.

Honestly I think you're taking it a little too seriously. They're a very playable army because of events like Prospero and the Siege of Terra.

Just because we don't see a whole lot of public viewings of them, doesn't mean they weren't doing clandestine missions in the shadows
>>
>>52655496
One of the interesting (if morbid) thing about sci-fi guns is all the ways people can die of heat or explosive heat injuries because of them. Instead of the more usual ballistic/concussive trauma that leads to bleed outs if the critical organs weren't pulped.
The imperial forces transitioning from heath-deathing people to blowing them into bleeding chunks when boltguns replaced volkite must've been a thing.
I'd read a short story about a medic or medical team in the setting.

On the other hand, prospero was before the heresy really kicked off, well, probably, anyway, they keep fucking about with the timeline, and the siege was right at the end. If one assumes most age of darkness take place in the heresy proper, the custodes mostly won't be there.

And clandestine missions were what Malcador was up to, the custard creams seemed to be more just in the palace/webway.

Does Horus Heresy allow unbound? I'd like to make an army out of 18 land raiders painted as one from each legion.
>>
>>52655610
The complete lack of a new alliance chart with the new factions is very confusing. I have no idea why making Inferno took FW that long, because with all the things missing, rule errors, spelling mistakes, sentences that aren't even proper english, poor editing, tourism in prospero, etc. it looks like the book was merely 2-3 months in development and then tossed out for release.

And then they even make it the most expensive book yet ... what a fucking joke.

No unbound, but I think that's possible with Shattered Legions, if you can take Rites of War with that. Take that one that makes Land Raiders Dedicated Transport, get three HQs with Land Raider command squads, 3xsquadrin of 3 LR as Heavy Support and 6 troop DT Land Raiders, there's your eighteen. You would need some squads of stuff and hq units, though.

Yeah, just checked. With Armoured Spearhead you can take Land Raider dedicated transports in place of Rhinos, so take a fluffy squad for each legion - IF tacs, IH and IW Breachers, Assault Marines for the stabby legions and flamer/plasma supps for DG/DA respectively and so on. Would be fun, even if with 3HQ, 3 Elite, 6 Troops and 3 FA to play with you may have some troubles fitting a squad per Raider. Can SL or AS lists take allies? Because if so you can ally in the other 3 squads you need.
>>

Current HH victory condition dictates that at any point you don't have any of your models on table you auto-lost.

IIRC my drop pods arrive at start of my turn, so if my opponent can destroy all my models (if I have any at all) on table he will auto-win, on his first turn.

Not really. Two wounders are more resilient against small arms fire, but when things that ID them hit then you just wasted extra points to still die in a single hit.

Having 2 wounds is also terrible in close combat against 1 wound models with powerfists : you can both fail the same amount of invulnerable saves, but that still means the 2 wound terminators lose combat by twice the amount of wounds.

Sort of. Sallies and DG are full on the resilience meme, so it makes sense for them, but the same should apply to the I3 melee race Gorgons, yet it doesn't.
That's one mistake.
2Ws vs powerfists is sort of an uphill battle and currently the only way to patch this is either wield a Power Scythe or have a 3++, otherwise you have the scenario accurately depicted by >>52656739. Red Butchers are scary, so I guess they're perhaps the only non-IH/DG/Sal termie I'd accept that has 2W. Even if their thing is being Hatred Rage Actual Free Power Axes: nobody ever takes lightning claws.

BUT THEN THERE'S THE JUSTAERIN. Fucking mistake.
FACT: The only reason Justaerin have 2W is as a fucking APOLOGY due to how overcosted they were in HH1. The only reason, since they already have Chosen Warrior Furious Charge Multimeltas with BS5 combi-weapons.
And then the Lerneans are a damn meme. Barely above normal termies despite supposedly being oh-so-deadly. Give them a Terminator Volkite Culverin instead of the Conversion Beamer and Chosen Warrior at least, and now we're talking.

In terms of fluff, it would be something along the terms of desperate times calling for desperate measures, most of the rules like toughness/strength/wounds could be chalked up as the armor/bionics/other augmentations.

As for using the models, i was planning on scraping off most of the detail to have a clean slate of armor, would not use the stock custodes heads (although i may use some sagittarum heads as the are sexy), and a lot of kit bashing and additional bits. The only real issue would be vehicles.... would most likely have to look else where or doing insane levels of conversion

The idea is to put the Praetor with the Destroyers (for max fluffiness) and the Siege Breaker with the Heavy Support Squad for Tank Hunter, Laser Vindis for anti-tank (hopefully getting some side armor shots on Spartans), Kheres Mortis for Anti-air and utility, blobs for blobbing it up, Quad Mortars for phosphex goodness, and Grave Wardens for mini-deathstar capabilities or at worst a distraction.

The idea is to make something fluffy, but also somewhat competitive. Does this look like a fun list to play against? Feedback is appreciated. Thanks, /hhg/!

As far as Regular terminators go, imperial fists cataphractii with storm shields and it assault cannons. Alpha legion terminators with mutable tactics and banestrike combi weapons means they can blast meqs, teqs, MCs, and vehicles and also assault meqs, teqs, MCs and vehicles and also sweeping advance. Really underrated unless they go after or get attacked by a Death Star unit.

I doubt it really, despite all the natgeo articles about how everyone will look the same in 200 years. People tend to stick to 'their own type' far more often than not. I think people in the west are tunnelvisioning really hard. Yes America and Western Europe are globalizing and 'increasingly diverse' but you don't see similar trends to such a degree elsewhere.
Take China for example. Han areas are still practically ethnically homogeneous. Most African countries don't have significant amounts of people with differing skin colors either.
The whole 'impending ethnic melting pot' meme seems to me to be a classic case of assuming current trends will continue forever.

>why couldn't they simply make Loyalist fleets 'disappear,'

A. They do, sometimes, because they can. These fleets later tend to show up as Space Hulks or Daemon-ships crewed by the more damned.

B. Gellar Fields make it very, very difficult to fuck with a ship for all but the most powerful of entities or the currents of the Warp itself. It's not impossible for it to get pried open, but it takes a pretty powerful being to do it and survive the process.

C. The Warp is an ocean almost in a literal sense - though the Warp is populated by the Chaos Gods, they do not own it or control it outright - the Warp is an entity all its own that ebbs and flows based on the material realm and the will of various gods (including the Emperor). As such, sometimes the Warp just does what it wants.

D. The Chaos Gods are creatures of such titanic proportions and incredibly alien perspectives that understanding the how and why of their actions is almost meaningless, because we simply cannot understand why they do things the way they do.

E. Ships are pretty tiny, and the Gods have a fuckload of other things to do, like fight each other or play mind-games with themselves. Do you notice every minnow in the pond? No, because you're too busy hunting for catfish or alligators.

GW/FW really needs to just exponentially increase numbers on stuff.

Great Crusade? 200 years for all the shit they've tried to cram in? The Legions were able to conquer most fo the galaxy in that time and in the pitiful numbers of them that existed?
Bullshit. Make it 500-800 years long before Horus goes lolchaos and drastically increase Legion sizes.

40k? A million marines? Yeah because that makes sense when there's a million worlds to cover. It's nonsense. Make it 100 million marines throughout the galaxy.

As said above. GW can't into numbers. And it gets harder to ignore when they keep trying to make a big deal of it.
>>
>>52660823
Seeing how easily the galaxy fell into turmoil, it's quite apparent that the conquests weren't perfect. I mean, all you gotta do is bomb the shit out of them until they surrender, then you can scribble their name onto the roster and send in envoys and Army to bring the planet into total Imperial compliance.

Also, did the Great Crusade even conquer a million worlds? Surely the Imperium has changed its composition since then. Macharian crusade brought a thousand new worlds into the Imperium in a decade. And, after he died, those planets revolted requiring another 70 years of crusading to integrate them properly. So how "complete" was his conquest if that was to happen. Seems like he just rode in, crushed major resistance, named the planet after his left testicle and rode off, leaving others to clean up the mess and set up shop.

>a million worlds to cover

You do realize those world include stuff like research outposts with a dozen techpriests slapping their dicks together and shit, right? And there's plenty of worlds that haven't seen Marines in centuries in other than pictured on the walls of a church. Marines usually operate where there's danger about, they don't patrol every planet in the Imperium.
>>
>>52660729

The heresy itself was necessary and inevitable. The only outcome which remained in flux was whether or not the Emperor survived. He did, although His timetable was set back dramatically by at least 10k years.

What comes out of events in m42 is anyone's guess, but His plan still stands a good chance of success - its just that it no longer lies on the back of humanity, but on the shoulders of all defenders of the galaxy who are willing to side with humanity.
>>
>>52661788
>The heresy itself was necessary and inevitable.

>>
>>52661725

Fuck, how do you do it? I come home from work and after I do everything I need to do, I have like 2 hours left to myself.
>>
>>52661834

The Emperor forsaw that the heresy itself will happen regardless of what He does. What He could not forsee was the exact events and outcome of the heresy. If it wasn't Horus leading the heresy, it would have been someone else. The very nature of the Great Crusade, His talented and warped Primarchs, the sheer might of the Astartes, all of it would have caused a Heresy no matter what measures He took to mitigate it.

Unfortunately, according to BL's current interpretation of lore, the Emperor had no real contingencies for Magnus breaking Terra's shielding and the Horus Heresy. This is hard to believe still; but perhaps the implication here is that whereas the Emperor considered His ultimate vision doomed, humanity might still surpass His expectations in the far future.

And not only humanity, but all the other xenos races whom He wrote off or would consider useless to His cause.

Ok, I might have figured a way to salvage this. The problem I had with the mantic bikes was the prongs on the front, they just didn't look like a design of the Imperium with the weird space between them. I tried to remedy that by clippins the ends of the prongs and filling the gap with plasticard for a smoother look, but...well, you guys saw how that went. But wahat if, instead of putting the prongs on at all, I just put on the other little winglets that are supposed to go into the prongs on the bike where the prongs are supposed to go themselves? Looks sleeker, no weird gaps, no shitty plasticard, looks imperial, and you can actually see what gun the bike has. I might even be able to change the posing such that the riders won't look like they're asleep at the wheel.
