depends which colours you like painting more. Red and Brass or Blue and Gold
>>
>>52639127 was here first. Go there.
>>
>>52639157
Whichever you like the models of. That's what is most important,

Khorne is cheaper because you can buy the AoS set and trade the stormcast straight up for double the Khorne.

Tzeentch is rarer.

Or you can go both and Slaves to Darkness and mark the warriors depending on what you want to play for the day.

What else?

Okay, you stand at a fork in the road.

On one hand, you could gain the peak of martial ability. To see anything in the Mortal Realms plead for mercy, and you give none. The surge of adrenaline as steel meets flesh.

On the other hand, you could become a master of unspeakable arts. You could tear the concept of perception to shreds, reality itself buckling around you by a wave of your hand.

Choose wisely.

What's going on in Ulgulands?
>>
>>52639157

Khorne is focused on lots of spam and support heroes buffing the army. They have very powerful melee and now, very powerful shooting in the form of the BoK Skullcannon formation. Their heroes are decent to great at fighting but not really the focus. And I repeat, they LOVE hordes, so be ready to paint a LOT of models.

Tzeentch on the other hand is less buff focused, but has intensely powerful magic abuse, decent shooting, great mobility, and the Destiny Dice gimmick. It can do hordes, but some of its best lists are low model count, and focused on big monster casters like Kairos and the Lord of Change. SO they are shooty, dominate with their magic, and tend to be fast and lower model count.

If you plan on running your models in 40k as well, then Tzeentch hands down. Tzeentch Daemons are one of the top armies in 40k right now but this might change in 8th edition so don't get ahead of yourself.

I actually have not had a chance to play them yet. They look fun on paper, although I can expect their flaws. They are slow and have little to no ranged support. My force includes a plagueclaw just so I have some long range.

They have a lot of area effect things, area effects that ignore the nurgle keyword and damage everything else. So it's their combined funk and abilities that just eat away at shit nearby them. So their synergy has a lot to do with that area debuffing.

I like the models and fluff of all three, and once I bite the bullet I'll be all in but I just can't make up my mind.
>>
>>52645063
Stormcast are the safest choice and arguably the best gameplay wise.
>>
>>52645063
All 3 are pretty good in the meta. Seraphon are a little tougher to play than the other 2, but the meta changes all the time, so don't get married to one based on meta alone.
>>
>>52643006
I'm having trouble figuring out fluff for my guys. I've come up with names for characters, though.

>Badblud Irongit: Maw-Krusha Megaboss/Leader
>Grimtoof da Deffsmasha: Megaboss
>Krakdok da Wize'un: Weirdnob Shaman
>Zagrog Badbreff: Warchanter
>Da Blakk Mask: Black Orc Big Boss
>Rakka da Pig-runna: Gore-Grunta Boss
>Kaptinn Gutkruncha: Brute Boss
>>
>>52645063
I'd say start with SCE. Easy to paint, and lots of different ways to play them.
>>
>>52645214
Try to think of backstories of how they got those names. There must be a reason one is called Da Blakk Mask, or Irongit, or Kaptinn.

I do have an idea for bright yellow stormcast using a yellow ink technique I wanted to try. I had wanted to use it on an Imperial Fists army in 40k, but after a company of crimson fists and a heap of deathwatch I'm not keen on painting another 40k army.

I read the fluff on the Lord-castellant and it mentions the fortress-observatory of the Heralds of Casandora and it's telescopes that serve as functioning cannons. I've mentioned it here about a month ago, but does a Stormhost of warrior scientists sound believable? I'm trying to think of how they would be chosen by sigmar, but I can't think of a way.

Sounds believable to me. As how they were chosen by Sigmar, I'm not too sure. You could go the typical route, in that they gave their lives to save fleeing refugees. You'd just have to change up the method from straight up fighting to something more suitable for the scientific theme. It would also works in the sense that no one would have suspected a bunch of scientists to sacrifice themselves for others. Sigmar is sure to see the worth in that. Martial skill isn't as important since he gives them the perfect body anyways, and training can come later.

POST REDDIT RATS FOR MY FRIEND'S BIRTHDAY

If I had a bloodthirster, daemon prince and mighty lord of khorne, who would be in charge?

Reposting from previous thread

What do you guys think about gw adding more rules for matched play in the ghb 2.0 and subsequent editions? Me and my group play both aos and 40k with some guys coming over from wfb and while we all really enjoy aos we have come to miss the granularity that other games can offer.

Having said that, I'm all for sigmar being simple and easy to get into. It got me into the hobby, and it's gotten a lot of people at my lgs into the hobby who had been apprehensive before. But I think if he is going to keep pushing the three ways to play thing, they could afford to flesh out matched play even more. Making it "harder" for those who want to participate. It doesn't need rules for the sake of rules, but things like miscasts or perils to make the magic phase more impactful or other granular additions could really benefit the game

I think that the three ways to play should be Open, Standard, and Matched. Open play remains the same as it is now, standard play simply requires points and adds a few rules to ensure a more even field for everyone (such as summoning restrictions or rules of 1). Matched play would have the more granular ruleset with different impactful rules but would be marketed as a completely optional way to play, just like the other 2. This way new players could still get into a relatively simple game and progress at any pace they choose as they become more engrossed in the hobby.

Sound like a reasonable idea?
>>
>>52656537
What is the point of this post? It's a lot of rambling, but basically proposes to change nothing at all?
>>
>>52656537
So basically change nothing except make the magic phase as cancerous as it used to be in WHFB?
Yes, that sounds like a lovely idea. Brilliant, anon.
>>
>>52656537
Yes, because more impactful magic in a game where magic can already have a huge impact as well as more minute bullshit is just what we need.

I'm not a game designer, I don't pretend to be. As it stand right now I feel like sigmar lacks any sort of risk when performing a lot of actions. Magic is just a free turn if your opponent isn't I'm range to unbind.

>>52656847
And as it stands either I have a wizard within 18 or you just roll your dice every turn to cast the same spells. Nothing changes, there is no risk. If your wizards fail every attempt then oh well bummed turn. There is no argument that magic has depth in sigmar, it is either cast for significant reward or it fails for no consequence.

Maybe they will release a Storm of Magic supplement later with expanded magic rules, tables, perils, and all that. But I do not think it should be part of the GHB, no.

The GHB is in the place right now where it is generally accepted to be the 'core rules' for this game. And putting that stuff in there, whether or not anyone wants it, is considered the core game.

Whereas if it were in a supplement, then people and events and tournaments could opt out of those rules easily. I get you wanting more rules, and that is good, but they shouldn't be part of the core of the system. The GHB represents that.

>>
>>52657048
A command ability is something you pay pretty heavily for (I'm your commander) and serves as an anchoring point for your forces. It's fine that your commander can bellow orders once per turn. Magic however can change the entire game if someone has the right spells (sylvaneth constantly healing or ressurecting kurnoth hunters ) or just bombing your entire force (kroak+vortex) and there is literally no downside to it. Throw all the dice you want if it goes off you get a nice effect, if you fail or your opponent stops it just try again next time. Most things in sigmar have some sort of punishment, even if not expressed in the rules. Magic has effectively zero, you just spellsling.

>>52657194
I could see that, hence why I suggested that matched play be made more granular, with the "standard" playstyke hanging true to the core rules. But a supplement would do just as well.

Combat is totally different. That's tossing yourself headfirst into danger.
>Why should wizards be any different?
The same reason ranged unit's don't kill themselves when they try to shoot the enemy. Their entire purpose is to their job from relative safety. And if we're talking killing power, their function is exactly the same. In fact, many ranged units are superior to anything your average wizard can do. All without the risk you want wizards to have.
>>
>>52657310
You listed basically all the powerful wizard shenanigans. Compare that to a garbage Arcane Bolt or some situational Bravery debuff and magic is a lot more mellow overall.
Yes, a well-placed Daemonic Power or Firestorm can turn a game around, but so can for example Warding Lantern.
Also, wizard hunters are a thing and pretty damn effective unless going against some bullshit like Kroak, which is already cancerous enough.
>>
Not the guy proposing the idea, but I imagine extended magic rules are just going to come eventually. It's inevitable showing GW's track record. But again, I don't think they will come in the GHB, I think we will be getting additional rules supplements.

One of the beauties of AoS is how easy it is to ADD rules to it. A big issue with 40k as it is now, or whfb as it was, was how difficult it can be to add or remove or even change the core rules to fit a unique playstyle. Often requiring pages of clarifications and errata to do so effectively.

With AoS, because it's so simple and reduced, it makes adding more rules much easier and more digestible. I think GW will take advantage of that in the future. Using the GHB to keep the core 4 pages as tight as they are, and having supplements to expand on the rules.

I don't see where the issue with this is. Again, with supplements, they just become another way to play, and can easily be opted out of, whereas if it were part of the GHB, that wouldn't be as easy.

What is the difference between Stormcast and Aelfs play style?
>>
>>52658894
I mean between Stormcast and Sylvaneth
>>
>>52658907
One is a low model count, elite army with access to some deployment shenanigans, and a fair few buffing heroes.

The other has a highly variable model count (Dryad spam and Kurnoth Hunter spam really are both viable), access to magic, and different formations which will dictate how you play, and as well as deployment shenanigans, they also have teleportation shenanigans regardless of what units you pick.

Where as the stormcast will largely rely on how you deploy, and what you strike first, the Sylvaneth will forever be jumping from Wyldwood to Wyldwood, pecking at where the enemy is most vulnerable, or forcing them into the trees (which isn't a place you want to be if you are in fact, not also a tree).

So what limits you? Up to 3?
>>
>>52659368
>>52659413
>>52659421

If you have a Sylvaneth Allegience, then the Wyldwoods have no point cost, which means the only limit to how many you can create is you methods for creating them.
Which means you can have more than one for free.
You get one to place for free for simply having the allegiance, but there are spells and abilities that let you create more.

If you do NOT have the Sylvaneth allegiance, they cost 40 points each.

The people saying it is bullshit are just salty, since most of the Sylvaneth units are over-costed, or just outright terrible without the Wyldwoods. The army relies on them to function.
>>
>>52659585
There is no limit. The limit of 3 is for the amount of Citadel Woods that makes up a single Wyldwood. For all intents purposes, the 3 models count as one larger model.

1 Citadel Wood, or 3 Citadel woods both count as one Wyldwood, so both cost 40 points (In the same say a unit of say, 7 models will still cost the same amount as 10, if that is what the minimum unit size is).

You will quickly find that even if you come to a game with 100 citadel woods, you wouldn't be able to go for the maximum size every time, as each way of creating them has restrictions involving the distance to enemy models, or other terrain.
>>
>>52659589
Interesting, who summons them?
>>
>>52659642
Wait the one you get free is 3 terrain pieces?
>>
>>52659657
It can be up to 3 Citadel woods, but obviously they have to be together. A custom made wood the same size and shape as 3 citadel woods would be functionally identical.
Again, this is the case for ALL Wyldwoods. The most recent warscrolls specifies "up to 3 citadel woods"
There is no reason not to take that one as the maximum size really, since it will be easy to fit it on, but any you make after that will likely have to be smaller to fit on the board.

>>52659645
Treelord Ancient has an ability that can make a new wood every turn on the roll of a 4+.
It isn't a spell or a command ability, every every Ancient you have can do it.

Alarielle can turn a unit she kills with her spell into a Wyldwood.

The "Verdant Blessing" spell you can assign to any Sylvaneth Mage in your army lets you set one up when you cast it.

The Acorn of Ages you can give to any hero lets you set one up, but only once per game.

And to modifiers to your rolls means that it's harder for the enemy, or is it still just 2d6 > your 2d6?

>>
>>52660801
I believe casting bonuses do make it harder for the enemy to unbind a spell.

As for your first question, enemy wizards within 18" can unbind. If a unit isn't a wizard, it can't unbind unless it has some ability that lets it do that (for example Mighty Lord of Khorne, Karanak, Lord-Veritant, or Runelord).

Those should have the fluff for those guys in them, if Imgur stops shitting the bed.

The others, we haven't really seen yet besides some Silver Tower models.

Mistweaver Saih, which seems to be some kind of Shadow Aelf special character

>Able to turn the minds of her enemies against them, the Mistweaver Saih is a sinister figure hailing from the Realm of Shadow. Very little else is known about her, and her emotions, motivations and allegiances are impossible to understand. The only other certainty is that she is an immensely powerful enchantress, disturbingly serene in the centre of her storms of illusory horror and violent bloodshed.

And same with the Tenebreal Shard

>The threat of death hangs heavy around the Tenebrael Shard. Legends tell that he is a being of absolute fear, but beyond that no two tales truly agree upon his composition. Whatever the truth about this creature, it is doubtless that he is a killer of silent, superlative skill, closing upon the prey unseen and ending their lives with callous efficiency.

Cool fluff Anon! I don't see that much fluff regarding stormcast, so it's nice to see some change.
>>
>>52663327
Okay, let's try again, cause I feel like we're not talking about the same thing. Order book on GW website has (for example), units such as Darkling Bleakswords, which I can't find on the dark elf warscroll pdf file.

Nurgle Daemon Prince twin, 75% progress

Need to go back over the wing membranes with the shade, and generally do more highlighting. The left foot's all gammy because plastic glue.

Weird photo, but the only real natural light spot in my house, and it's a dark day
>>
>>52663690
Nice, but I think his eyes should be a little whiter. LIke milky yellowy white.
>>
>>52663705
Yeah they're definitely too bright, but it was all I had to hand to be honest, which is also why the highlighting is lacking now

Girlfriend suggested Nurgle's Rot to make them weepy and that would probably milk them up a bit
>>
>>52663690
What colors did you use for the skin?
>>

So, more accurately...
>Fuck everything up by cucking the king
>Get promoted to god
>God of light who is blind, because lulz I guess
>Nerdy little bro is your helper
Yeah, it's good to be the jock.
>>
>>52663726
It's literally just 2 coats of Athonian Camoshade over white

The wing membranes are 1 coat of Athonian Camo, and 2 of Seraphim Sepia, but the underside has come out really patchy in comparison to the top side of the wings

My FLGS decided to run AoS league in 750 and 1500 pkt format so newbies could jump in faster.

My problem is a fact that I've planned my models to play exactly 1k pkt list and now I have to fix myself something else.
My hiring pool is: 2x 10xTzaangors, 3xTzaangor Skyfires, 3xTzaangors Enlighted, Tzaangor Shaman, Ogroid Thaumatruge and Gaunt Summoner.
For 750 pkt it's 1-2 heroes and 1+ battleline and 0-1 monster,

My first idea was to grab two units of 10 Tzaangors, Shaman, Gaunt and Skyfires which put me at 740/750. Can I fit a better squad? (It will be my first league ever in AoS and I have no clue how to play them).
>>
>>52663744
I think patchy works with Nurgle stuff, so long as it's not excessive.

>>52663721
And yeah it probably will. Sounds good, man.
>>
>>52663443
Thanks anon!

I was reading Skaven Pestilens by Josh Reynolds because I was thinking of starting Seraphon and the book goes into their character a bit. But the real stars are the Stormcast, who show they're more than just robots. That was enough to start me wanting SCE, and the fine folks here got me over the line. I'm getting the start collecting box over the easter weekend
>>
>>52663957
Good luck in your modeling and playing Anon!
>>
So I played my first game of AoS on Monday and I enjoyed it even though I lost.

One of my biggest issues with the game is with terrain, it just doesn't seem to do anything beyond have kind of silly random special rules and blocking LoS. Do the terrain pieces with warscrolls rectify this or do people play with house rules or what?

I also managed to play Gorechosen. I only really bought it because it's a cheap way to get Khorne heroes but honestly it was a lot of fun.

They are in the main rules, but I've never seen any group using them.
>>
>>52664278
Me and my group use them
>>
>>52664278
We use them if appropriate. For instance, a terrain feature that is also an objective will not use the terrain rules, and we don't roll for them mostly, but pick one that makes sense.
>>
>>52660285
same time as new death battletomes.
>>
>>52662951
I'd make them hit with their Arbolists like leadbelchers do with their guns. Ironjawz love their weapons and add scrap on to make it killier. Also make the marker a regular dude and give the leader +1 to hit, or give him a special ranger weapon, like "Real 'uge Arbalest" that fires multiple arrows, and give him something like d3 shots with the same profile.

Also what were points you were looking at here? Cause I feel like these guys are easily worth 180 points cause even in combat they are pretty good making 13 attacks in combat.
>>
>>52664278
We use them inasofar as we roll them up and assign them, only to forget them for the rest of the game from either first or second turn onward.
>>
>>52664278
Yes

It adds a fun random element to every game
>>

You should probably get some of the dark green and paint over those highlights a little, make them a bit smaller.

One of my Dorfs for an example of how smaller highlights look. Particularly around his hand and feet.
>>
>>52667372
25mm, purely from a modelling perspective. They aren't huge models, so they'll look lost on a 32mm base.
>>
>>52667785

Final Q - Do people tend to stick their minis to their base before priming or after?
>>

I stick them on, then prime and paint the model, then remove the model, then complete the base, then pin the model back on the base.

That's just me though

I really really really hope it's a new GUO

>>
>>52667929
I looked on google for "official" base sizes and 20mm square > 25mm round, so that's what ill use i guess

That and Zombies are a lot smaller than Plaguebearers and they do need 32mm
>>
>>52668034
PBs are packed with 25mm

32mm look awful with them and I'm not buying a pack of bases every time I buy a box from now on AND rebasing 50 PBs
>>
>>52665936
GUO Centipede could be nice ! i dont think this is about 40K, neither bloodbowl since this doesn't fit on a 32mm base. But we can definitively see a shell, so maybe a sea-creature for shadow/cthulhu Aelfs ?

>>
How differently do Bloodborn and Khorne daemons play?
>>
>>52668636
Both are so bad that you immediately want to switch to superior Tzeentch
>>
>>52668636
Not very much.

Mortals have a more symbiotic gameplay. Basically you really need the different units and heroes to buff each others or you die an horrible death.
Daemons are more indipendent and forgiving but don't reach the peak of the Bloodbound.
>>
>>52668810
>>52668636

Yeah, mortals are all about synergy and buffing mediocre units into killing machines.

Daemons largely function on their own, but in return have less potential. Also daemons are a bit more tank-y because they have a universal 4+ save and 10 bravery.
>>
>>52664653
Those are all good ideas.

As for points, I was thinking a bit above 180, like 220 or 240, but 180 might still be good enough.
>>
>>52665971
>edge highlights
I think these look really great.

If anything work on thinning the edge highlights so they don't cover so much space on the surface your highlighting.
