So the lifepath gen for the RPG is crazy fun. I ended up having a character get double interesting times, having their home burn down, be involved in and then solved a major crime, along with a family member being murdered and discovering an alien ruin. That was interesting to try and interpret into a coherent story for building their background.

forgive me anon, I have sinned.

That actually sounds really cool; can you go into more detail? Are you actually in a game of it, or just messing around with character creation? How well does character creation roll?

A friend of mine is going to be running one soon, I was messing around with random gen and ended up with a character I really liked.

The chargen itself is really interesting, varied and creates a lot of cool stories through how you interpret and connect the various events and careers they go through, with the life points you're given letting you customise things a bit when you want to. No idea how balanced it is, that'll likely be figured out in time.

The PC started out as a Corregidoran, trained in zero-g work and industry from a young age, which I interpreted as a pretty standard working class upbringing.

Things got weird when they relocated to Tunguska, the families fortunes suddenly improving and the character shifting into academia, which I interpreted as breaking through into a tech business.

And then things got interesting. They were fired from their academics career, and rolled into that of an investigative reporter- And those events being linked seemed obvious. Discovering something they weren't meant to know, noticing a flaw in some research or evidence, and then being forced out of the profession in order to cover it up, blacklisted and their word discredited. Then taking up the banner of a seeker of truth, finding like minded people who taught them the ways and means of getting to the bottom of it.

At the end of all that? The next event roll was dark secret, followed by a career term of unemployment. Which was just perfect. After long years of searching for the truth, finding it upon the lips of a family member... And falling to despair, no longer any drive to do anything.

The unemployed period was the time they hit the ridiculous double interesting times event rolls, which I interpreted as someone burning down their home to try and kill them or put them in prison, but their survival and involvement with the crime eventually leading to a final confrontation with their estranged family.
>>
>>52545436

This is where pieces fell into place for me. That it occurred in an alien ruin made me think that this must have been what the dark secret was about- Whatever tech business they broke into, they did so on the basis of illegally acquired and unregulated alien technology, likely endangering their clients and putting people at risk. The understanding of their families treachery and betrayal is what put them into despair, then drove them to resolve it all after the arson spurred them to action.

Of course, it didn't all end well. The crime was solved but one of their family was dead, and the next career and event rolls kinda sealed the deal- They went back to Corregidor for a term of military service, likely with the Tomcats, while the event roll was either debt or disownment- The family business collapsing amidst the scandal and the loss of the alien ruin that had been the source of their innovations and profits.

While it did take some creative thinking and playing around with various elements, I really enjoyed the story that occurred from putting all the pieces together.
>>
>>52545436
>>52545452
Oh, that sounds really cool. Have other players rolled up things? What do they have? What sort of campaign is it going to be? Are there any oddities or problems in the system? What about houserules?

I'm the only guy in my Infinity playgroup that does RPGs, but some of them are interested in trying out that part of the traditional gaming hobby, so I thought if the system was cool I might use it to get them into it, so I'm trying to get a feel for what I'd be getting into.
>>
>>52545496

So far we have a hyper-elite Ariadnan Dogface, which should be interesting, along with another Nomad Reverend Custodier. Plus an Aleph Aspect, which should mean we'll get along like a house on fire.

One player has yet to roll up, and we're just going with the basic 'the PCs have been seconded to O-12's Bureau Noir as problem solvers' thing. Have yet to actually play, so we'll see how it goes. I'll likely drop by and mention it in future threads if we discover any big issues. The system seems fun though, it makes hacking and social conflict just as potentially powerful as physical fighting, which is very interesting, and the Heat/Momentum economy seems like a really interesting resource mechanic for solving problems on the player side and potentially giving the GM tools to create new ones for you.
>>
>>52545554
Interesting. How does the former work? I thought that Dogfaces were second class citizens at best on Dawn. I'm surprised that ALEPH aspects are playable, but I guess they are a major part of the setting; I'm less surprised that Reverends are playable. Full reverends or are reverend PCs supposed to be something like apprentices?

What's the best way to start Infinity with an army themed around the Devil Dogs?

The Hyperelite Dogface is just a quirk of randomgen, I think. One of those odd things you need to interpret to make sense of your character.

Aleph has a lot of options, you can even end up as a Recreation.

And there are a lot of special careers available in the core book already, with the various faction books promising more specific ones for each factions various signature units.

I need some help understanding Holo L2. As it is L2 of a skill, it automatically gains L1. Under the holoecho state rules it says it can be combined with L1 and I've seen people use this in games how it is specified with 3 models of the same profile instead of echoes. If I do this, I'd place a holoecho marker next to one of them at the start of my turn to essentially tell my opponent it's a holo L2 troop.

Are all 3 are still in the holoecho state and move at the same time? Can I choose to just place one holo L1'd mini down and 2 holo markers? (essentially to fool the opponent into thinking it's a different holo2 troop) What is the point of negative "feedback" with holo L1 and L2 if it specifically says it can be combined? Isn't this intended only for L3? Also, if my opponent declares discover on a holoecho that is the main trooper, and I respond with surprise shot L1, would it be a FTF roll?

Also for open information that is shared at the start of the game, can I hand my opponent a list with incorrect models as open info even if the army courtesy list lists holo troops as blank? Related to this, are the points of a specific profile of a troop open info? I understand the points of a specific troop is private, but can I ask "what is the point cost of X unit with Y profile" and if not, is there anything stopping me from just looking up the point cost/army point costs up myself on army, assuming it does not slow the pace of the game to an unnecessary degree?

What's the best link for MRRF? Metros? Metros with Bruant? Loups spamming viral? Mixed briscards or moblots? I've been stuck in a tactical rut lately with my games (I usually play either all-infiltrator vanilla Ariadna or a CHA list with wallace LT and a wulver link plus CRAP SAS and whatever to season), so I'm thinking I'll try to give MRRF out, but I"m not sure what the best link to build around is.

>>
>>52547763
Well, the list I'm currently looking at is a Briscard link (LT, FO, HRL, sniper, paramedic), four minelayer chasseurs and a 112 in the first group, then a Dozer with a traktor mul control device, the urgan/TR mul, three camo/infil metros and two regular metros to feed orders to the mul and the dozer if needed for specialist reasons.

I see. However it's subtle enough that it could convincingly be used as the sensor profile, so that's what I'll use it as.

>>52550054
Not at all. The sensor and FO profiles for Zhanying also use a breaker combi.
>>
>>52550095
>Not at all. The sensor and FO profiles for Zhanying also use a breaker combi.
Well yeah, and that could be a sensor visor or something. I meant that maybe they just forgot to add "hacker" to the description because siesta or something.
>>
>>52549961
Because it will be pointless, since you'll proxy it in the end. All that hacker stuff is just aesthetical purpose, most people are fine with it as long as it looks good.
And its not as jarring as weapon loadouts.
>>
>>52549663
To be fair. She's not a terrible hacker profile, but then again she's only up against a Pheasant Hacker for the same device and points....so there'a not any competition there

>>52550061

>i just blew the zip off my pants

>>52549961
I would too. or at least an arm swap to switch out the hacker waving arm. Extra parts for swapping in general like the GdA and Myrmidon Officers would be nice.

>>52550178
I don't proxy models if it's blantantly a Hacker like the Rodok w/ BSG or Bolt w/ BSG.

That said, Zhanying hacker doesn't look bad. She's not in a silly hacker pose and the visor can represent a sensor. Whatever.

Haqq is a tragic faction, with shit-tier fluff, made out of mostly generic models, with a few absolutely stunning models.

The nu-islam shit is just corny and stupid. Not even a /pol/ack, just don't care either way. Could have made it an arab union with religious undertones, or even a sub-faction like MO (which is dumb as fuk too), and it would be acceptable-tier.

Al Fasid (both versions), Azaril(Both too) and Magihabara are arguably the 3 nicest models in the entire game, let down by a completely generic or stupid looking troops. At least pan-o has berets.

A massive shame, as I would have loved to pick up the faction. Stupid fluff I can ignore, but generic models I can't.

>>
>>52551719
What's the source on that?

It sounds believable enough, any person or group of sufficient popularity is going to get death threats and Islam seems to be a popular excuse for that sort of shit these days, but a source has always been asked for and never provided when talk of the bomb threat gets posted here.
>>
>>52551867
I highly doubt it's real, CB is not high profile enough to get bomb threats from people like DAESH, and the great majority of muslims don't really do the whole bomb threat thing from what I've seen
>>
>>52551985
The great majority don't disprove of it either. That's the big difference. Christianity has it's extremists and fundamentalists, but the normal ones call those guys faggots and teach their kids how retarded being a religious fundamentalist is, so the crazies have a hard time gaining recruits and can't blend into a sympathetic community to hide from retribution.

>>
>>52551067
what is a wet pallete?
>>
>>52552302
Parchment paper over a moist layer of paper towels or sponge on a tray that provides a semi-permeable palette to mix paints over and keep them wet for longer.
>>
>>52552323
Not even a beginer at painting, so Ill ask a fellow up question, which may sound stupid. How does it help ? Wouldn't it just make the paint runny and impossible to properly use ? everything would become like an ink, plus different colors would be constantly mixing up and the paper would clump up and it would be hard to not get it on the model. Or is the paper used some sort of special painting paper?
>>
>>52552355
"parchment" paper is kind of special, usually used for baking. It lets a wee bit of water through to the paint that gets put on top of it, but it doesn't make it run or anything, the acryllic paint keeps it consistency and doesn't go into the water. It just keeps it from drying too fast.

Look up a tutorial about wet palettes, it's hard to explain unless you've got experience with it or see it with your own eyes.
>>
>>52552355

For narrative campaigns, you're pretty much stuck with the flawed Paradiso (until it gets updated in the next book) or the Datsphere campaign format:

http://www.data-sphere.net/new-dawn-alternative-campaign-system/

The Datasphere one looks like it could be fun and light weight, but it really relies on you and your opponents hashing out objectives and strategic bonuses together and agreeing on something balanced. They don't provide many examples in there, and some are probably better than others. It would be great to play with friends whom balance isn't paramount.
>>
>>52556651
Look for dire foes missions, they have neat backstories and special characters and such

One of my personal favorites requires you to work together with your opponent for at least 1 turn to activate some consoles and then shoot the shit out of eachother while evacuating the board

Any help? I'm only finding more confusing scenarios and interactions with holo projector rules. Some of the examples in the rulebook imply you can combine holo1 and 2 in the way that you place one incorrect model and 2 echoes, and even activate holo2 with a holo1 trooper although this contradicts that the equipment being used has to be able to be used by both the model and the copied one.

In a scenario with 1 incorrect model and 2 echoes do you have to declare "these 2 echoes are with this model? Or can you place a holo2 troop with 2 echoes next to it and then a holo1 model pretending to be a holo2 troop nearby to the echoes (so opponent thinks echoes belong to holo1troop) and the actual model that is placed pretending to be a random model?

Posting this question/request again.

I recall a picture of a Pan Oceania Bulleteer, all cinematic, with I think a machinist or some other human, all on top of a rooftop or some other official background. It had a look simulating ODD, kind of like static.

Does anyone here have that picture?

Ok, my english is good enough for this. I can't imagine how you could any type of paper in baking, the fire from the oven would burn it. So I guess this is some sort of very special paper that doesn't burn and doesn't disolve in water. I have never heard or seen something like it. But I guess it has to exist.
>>
>>52557641
Stop trying to break holo more than it already is.
>>
Thinking about getting into this. Is aleph or haqqislam better for a scrub?
>>
>>52557662
If you really want to get into the science of it, parchment paper is affected by a treatment with sulfuric acid, which gives the end result of nothing like the kind of paper you normally write with, as its generally harder, semi-permeable, and able to withstand higher temperatures. I've also seen it in most grocery stores.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parchment_paper
>>
>>52557817
Aleph is probably easier for a new player to start with. But it's not like Haq is much harder. Read how they play on the wiki and the run down then pick which you like best.
>>
>>52557641
When combining Holo 2 and Holo 1 you just deploy 3 models , then in your first active turn put the Holo 2 marker besides one of the models.
You can try to confuse your opponent as long as you dont spend orders on any model.and its not your first active turn.

>>
>>52557641
You can combine Holo level 1 and level 2 in two ways:

1. Replace holo 2 figure as you would with holo 1, also place 2 holo echo markers.

2. Replace all three with figure as you would with holo 1. They all must be the same exact model. At the start of your turn(or if during your turn you activate holo) you must put a single holoecho marker next to one of the models. Yes you can have other models near them so the opponent can't tell which are holo and which aren't.
>>
>>52557817
Neither is inherently better. For instances where Aleph may have a super effective unit, Haqqislam has one too, like Post humans and Ghazi Muttawi'ah respectively.

It's better to just go with which you think is cooler, which I understand is hard to do.

I will say this, in general, Aleph tends to field less units than Haqqislam, due to being worth more in the game. Haqqislam tends to play to strengths of asymmetrical returns. 4 of the 5 point guys can easily return their investment by nullifying one twenty+ point guy from the enemy in an extreme example. But Haqqislam also does elite units well, like with Saladin, a Fiday, Al Fasid, or Muyibs.
>>
>>52558002
I intended to replace Machinist with Tech-Bee, but as it turns out it's best to field them both.

Also this example points that you can use echoes with a false troop.

Nothing is linking the echoes to a particular model until it moves correct?
>>
>>52558176
What do you mean by false troop? That's not a term. You can use another model from your faction of the same silhouette size in the ways stated above.

After the game has started when holoechos form, either automatically or through spending an order, they are placed in base2base contact with eachother.
>>
>>52557817
>>52557893

Pano and Yu jing is easier.

Steel Phalanx is easier than Vanilla Aleph and Haq. Then I would say Vanilla Haq, Qapu Kahlqi, Vanilla Aleph, Hassin.
>>
>>52558324
Sorry, what I meant was something like these 2 examples:

Example 1: holo 1 unit + holo 2 unit;
Holo1 unit Y is placed as model X. Holo2 unit Z is also placed as model X within 8" of unit Y. Unit Z has 2 holo echoes within 8" of both Y and Z. All models are facing the same direction. Until either Y or Z move can you tell which of them possesses the holoechoes? It doesn't seem like there is anything in the game linking them until they move.

Example 2: application of 2 holo2 units, yasbir and an ayar.
Ayar is placed in holo1 pretending to be yasbir. He also has 2 holo2 markers next to him. Yasbir is placed in holo1 as an ayyar within 8", with or without echoes. If they don't move, can you tell which has echoes, or if they both have echoes, which echoes belong to which troop?
>>
>>52557817
ALEPH units tend to be hard to kill while a lot of Haqqislam strength comes from trading cheaper units for more expensive ones (like afore mentioned 5pts Ghazi jamming out a 50-70pts HI or Hassassin Fiday inevitably dying first turn, but hopefully after killing a few cheerleaders, an annoying sniper or the enemy Lt), which goes against most new players instincts ("what do you mean my awesome biker will always die in the first turn?!"). However they also get awesome doctors, so getting your units back up is simpler than in PanO for instance.

ALEPH has a few odd rules, but in general their units tend to forgive some tactical errors (ODD and NWI everywhere, Post-Humans dying but still providing an order etc). Some go as far as saying that ALEPH is wrong for starters, because it teaches players to rely more on stats than tactics. It is definitely easier to play than Haqq, but not necessarily stronger (which you'll learn when you see a Myrmidon link broken because a Ghazi has jammed out Hector).
>>
>>52558176
Not quite. You reveal the three are related by placing holo echo markers by two of the models at the beginning of your active. You don't have reveal which one is real or break HP1 though.
>>
>>52558576
Example 1 doesn't even need the holo 1 unit. It could be any same silhouette size figure from your army.

Example 2, yes you can do that.

>>52558612
Unfortunately you only have to place one holoecho marker when you are using all three as figures.
>>

>>
>>52561606

Are any lists that spam them common?
>>
>>52561631
You cant really spam tags, a single one will usually be almost 1/3 of your points unless they're geckos or something, and if you take 2 big ones you likely won't have enough orders or personnel to support them properly

You could theoretically "spam" them but it would not be smart to make a list with 3-4 orders only
>>
>>52561631
You can realistically only run 2 of them and still have a 10 man order pool as many of them are 70-80+ pts.

That said, there's a pretty good "massed armor tactics" thread written by a guy in the official / american English pano forum. I guess the guy also plays 30 orders highlander lists too so he isn't necessarily just talking out his ass when he says "low order count lists can work."

TAGs I'm general are order hungry, not only in that they Rambo but also likely need to get back into a defensive position and enter into suppressive fire mode if you don't want to lose them on the opponent turn.

They are also awesome and generally beautiful models.
>>
Custodiers or Interventors? Which is generally preferable in vanilla Nomads?
>>
>>52561921
Interventor in vanilla of course.
>>
>>52561903

Well, the other list I'm looking at spams 18 units, 10 of them are limited camo/imperfect infiltrator units, 7 are ghulam order monkeys, and the last one is a TAG. I figure I'd bog down the other side with infiltrators and sacrifice them to try and take out key enemy units if they can while my other units set up or go after the objective, then overpower what's left with the TAG.

RIP in pieces Bao. Cool models stuck with garbage stats. Forever sidelined by the Rui Shi.
>>
>>52563290

They seem a tad schizophrenic, but I see their use. They counter:

-Camo
-Hackers (via Redrum and Sucker Punch)
-TAGs (via Claw programs)
-LI & SK (via suppressing fire)

The big threat is something taking a shot at them with something AP or something with a much longer range of fire. It's a weird as fuck niche though.
>>
>>52563129
Stong HI that don't compare favorably with other in-faction options.

The non-hacker profiles can be compared pretty directly with Achilles2. Their stats and weapons are very similar, with Achilles having slightly higher stats across the board (WP is equal, Wounds are the same if you count Asura's NWI as an actual wound), and very slightly better weapon loadouts (EXP CCW vs AP, added DEP to his 2.0 multi profile).

In terms of special rules the Asura has MSV3, but Achilles has a pile of rules differing slightly by version. Achilles is between 4-6pts more expensive on comparable loadouts, and pays and extra .5 SWC for a Spitfire. In general Achilles wins out, unless his slight price increase puts him out of the list's budget, or you specifically need an MSV HI.

The Asura hacker is your only source of HD+, and also your only HI specialist option in faction, but it's also 72pts and feels like a misuse of the MSV3 since it downgrades the primary weapon to a lowly Combi. It's certainly looks like it does a lot in a vacuum, but for the cost/swc you could get a full brace of Posthumans including a hacker, or a some combination of Dasyus + Naga or Deva for your hacking and button pushing needs.
>>
>>52563644
Bao are like Ninjas. Awful shit if you try to use them like normal troops of that type, but they have their own niche in which they perform well. For Bao that niche is doorkicking. Go inside, kill an infiltrator or two and set up suppressive fire with an x visor combi to keep all the other scum out.

Shotguns are alright in a Pheasant haris since supp fire isn't an option there, but otherwise I'd stick to the MSV2 combi at all times.
>>
>>52563888
In Vanilla at least it feels like a Zuyong would be the better way to go for that role, unless you were specifically building to deal with camo spam. Exact same cost for the combi profile, loses the visors but gains HI stats, and for 1 extra point you can get Forward Observer.

For ISS that Haris link might be a thing to look at, but for a solo you've got AVA 2 Rui Shi and Lu Duan to compete with so you're not short on options for random assholes running around with MSV.

I had the Sikh and my PanO turned into pure NCA so...

I have liked the Bolts in a link when I load them up with boarding shotguns and E/M grenades and a Hacker with a boarding shotgun and E/M grenades and idk like also a Spitfire and a couple dudes tossing Drop Bears. They are a cheaper-than-your-paintrain anti-HI-paintrain unit and they do a damn good job at it.

Often, I can just plant them in the middle of the table and they just shit on all of your plans, like all of your plans. I don't really waste any orders on them after planting them front-and-center, but they do a damn good job at being a pain in the ass. They are not for objective taking because they are slow, but that is what the Hexas hacker, Pathfinders, and/or this Locust hacker is for.

E/M grenades will fuck up almost anything heavy and Boarding Shotguns will fuck up everything else.

They're strong. They don't compare favorably to other things in-faction.

Like basically everything in the entire game that isn't a Bolt or a Khawarij they are competent in their role, it's up to you if you feel the things they offer are "good enough to use" compared to the other stuff you could be taking instead. If you're really fucking married to having a MSV3 or HD+ then you'll probably consider them good enough, if you aren't then you won't, and neither approach is necessarily wrong.

What no, what are your doing? Just take one with two helperbots. The only reason to have two is specifically for button pushing since one plus bots can basically cover the whole board for doc/engineer purposes, but you could get a camo+infiltrating+dogged button pusher in the Naga for cheaper than the second Soph, or a Dasyus who upgrades to TO:Camo and NWI for just a few points more.

Bolts are a pretty decent midfield link, they're absolute shits to dislodge. Other troops getting cheaper drop bears was a real gut punch though. They're by no means amazing, but they're competent.
Khawarijs are spitfire flankers or mobile docs. They're pretty competent at both those things.

Lol no, its not gasoline. In this case gas refers to natural gas lines(methane and related hydrocarbons mostly).

Pic related is a gas oven with a gas stove top. the stove top will have open-ish flames, while the pilot light(flame) of the oven will be secluded away from whatever you are putting in there.

Electric ovens look the same except they use electric heating elements in place of flames.

It's actually because NCA can spam Auxilia FO's (which were even more insane in N2) with a Fusi Link with two HMGs, which freed up more points to spam more Auxilia FO's and Auxulia are some of the worst models in the game. All the Tunguska units are highly specialized: Grenzers are anti-camo guys, Spektrs are the only TO Camo for Nomads, Interventors are hackers first and foremost, Szalamandra is a big bad TAG and the remotes have their roles (although they can double as cheerleaders). Securitate absent because they suck donkey balls right now.
So yes, you'd still need Corregidor/Bakunin basic troopers to do the cheerleading and often objective grabbing, but you can build a core Tunguska army. Not sure if you could fit in multiple Spektrs/Grenzers and Szalamandra into a single list, but Transductor and Tsyklon zonds will work great with Interventors. Still, you may want a Moran, Zero, Tomcats or a Bandit for utility or Morlocks/Uberfallkommando/Jaguars for their trading skills.

It has nothing to do with being rich.

Why do you care about winning inconsequential games of soldier dollies?

I usually get absolutely nothing if I win, or maybe if it's an official ITS tournament, I get some random prize "worth" a few bucks.

I seriously will never understand people who get their self-worth and egos wrapped up in winning silly games that will never have any consequence outside of being a pleasant recreational diversion.

I understand the point is to have fun, but it's a strategy game, and assuming I'm playing against someone competent, I'd rather have a good game with the best lists we both can bring. I enjoy playing and by extension winning the game rather than the simple spectacle of playing the game with the prettiest models. If I wanted that I'd play 40k.

Couple of quick questions from a noob in regards to my first army, the YuJing StateSec.
As of right now I have the starter (3 Celestial Guards, Phaesant Agent, Crane Agent, Zhanying Agent), a Kanren Counterinsurgent and a Hsien Warrior from the other starter the store owner gifted me.

- Everybody and their dog tells me to get Kuangshi, but I loathe their design. How fucked am I if I don't get them?

- Hsien//2xZhanying and Crane/4xCelestial Guard look like two good link teams to build a force around. True?

- In keeping with the above, I'd need a second Zhanying. According to earlier in the thread apparently there is one inbound, but when can we expect that to drop?

- Xi Zhang looks nothing like the other Celestial Guards (and, in fact, pretty awful). What could I proxy him with that's closer to the real thing?

- Assuming I lack the SWC to get the Crane with the spitfire: Multirifle/Assault Hacker or boarding shotgun?

>strategy game
>rolling d20s

Sorry, no. If I want to play an abstract strategy game for the sake of playing a strategy game, I'd just play Go or Chess or whatever. I hate playing miniatures wargames with people who reduce the game to the statistical probabilities of success while ignoring the aesthetic and narrative aspects. I would rather not play the game at all than play with people who reduce the game to that.

I only play tabletop games with themes for the narratives that come out of the die rolling and because I enjoy the other aspects of the hobby. I have been enjoying my Infinity terrain construction project quite a bit, and I also enjoy building and painting pewter miniatures, and CB does a superior job of producing finely detailed pewter miniatures that are a challenging and satisfying experience to construct.

Fellow noob here. Tried to play ISS without kuang chis. Ended up playing vanila with monks, because of that. ISS is good, and has a ton of cool HI or pseudo HI units. But to have those work you need smoke and you need cheap cheerleaders. CG, sadly, are not cheap.
But then again I am a fellow noob, and maybe somewhere out there someone won a majour event with ISS without any Kuangs.

As links go. I played with most, and the ones I liked was first turn proxy kuangs and a celesial to stop them from being crazy, reformed after turn 1 in to a wu ming link. A wu mink duo and Celestial link.

I avoided the cranes and the phaesents. Run the zhanying with wu ming and always the hsien. I tried the baos as a link and as single models, but two rems seem always the better option. A lu dan and its spitfire sister are my favorit model of the whole faction, even if I only do own a cardboard cut out of them.
>>
>>52570240
>I'd rather have a good game with the best lists we both can bring
This isn't really much of a list building game. It would cost more to make a shitty list (like say 10 bikers in USARF) than a competent one.

>If I wanted that I'd play 40k
Now that is a biggest wallet wins game. Try playing nids without splurging for two flyrants or going against a guy who has money for 3 Riptides and see how it goes.

Also Bolts are the financially cheap option for NCA, as you get 3 of them in the starter box and you don't need to scramble Fusiliers from the starter set with two models you can't use or by supplementing Fusi box with Spec-Ops and Angus models. NCA starter has all the other cool shit you'd want in NCA, so adding a Deva and two Bolts already gives you a 9-man 6swc 300pts list. If you want cheaper guys, you need to dish out more dosh. If you're not using them then you're wasting 3 models from your starter.
>>
>>52570218
Because losing is not fun, and losing because of models you paid for feels like your kicking yourself in the balls. Specialy when in my case an infinity army has a substential cost.
Also here we do not get "randomized" prizes. Top 3 gets something, maybe top 8 if it is a realy big tournament. Everyone else spends money on gas/tickets plus the entry fee. And for me this on top of the army cost would be too much, if the army was made out of stuff which could make me lose.

By the way this does not mean I play the best of the best armies. As those tend to cost too much. I play with the best in my price range, which happened to be ISS. And If I could have bought kuang chis I would probably have more fun. Then getting beaten because of lack of smoke.

>the best models I can afford.
Are you sure you play this game? There is no "best" model, not really. All you need is a bit of strategic planning. Overlapping lines of sight, contingency plans, etc. Look multiple turns ahead, like you do in chess.
>>
>>52570981
I can enjoy stuff without having to spend 500-600$ on two armies and a gaming table. Or in case of having such money being able to have a lot more fun spending it on vodka, women, movies and going to sports events.

Also hours??? what store lets a game be longer then 1 hour? even if you pay for the table the time limit is 60min, and if you over do it people waiting in line will "pack" your models for you.
>>
>>52570578
I love my models as much as anyone, I just don't try to justify playing them if they're clearly just worse than others. To be it's like saying "let's play a game of who rolls the highest and you can use a d20 I'll use this d12 because it's prettier"

I still have the pretty models I just choose to leave some on the shelf in order to make the best list I can within the restrictions. Will I play the best faction because it's the best? No, but if I'm playing pano I'll take some cool units (like aquila and Swiss guards) but still leave the bolts on the shelf since the cool units I am running will be able to do a lot cooler stuff. Not every model in my army has to be perfectly to my liking.
>>
>>52571006
Sure. I started with ISS, kuang chis are essential units, yet am not going to pay the guy that buys them up the storex3 price. Tell me what should I replace units with, as there are no other stand in option and an ISS without a smoke msv combo is weak?
Or how about people who want to play ariadna and do not have the money to run 20 models which they have to fish out from multi model boxs?

>- Everybody and their dog tells me to get Kuangshi, but I loathe their design. How fucked am I if I don't get them?

While they're not totally necessary, a lot of the more expensive units do seem to bank on the cheap orders Kuang Shi would provide, but the same can be done with Celestial Guard (but you'll likely still field the KSCD option because of the attached smoke). You're not gimping yourself, but tryhards do like having both a source of smoke and five orders for under 35 points.

>- Hsien//2xZhanying and Crane/4xCelestial Guard look like two good link teams to build a force around. True?
It's fine
>- In keeping with the above, I'd need a second Zhanying. According to earlier in the thread apparently there is one inbound, but when can we expect that to drop?
Anywhere between the next two to six months.

>- Xi Zhang looks nothing like the other Celestial Guards (and, in fact, pretty awful). What could I proxy him with that's closer to the real thing?

Just take the Yu Jing Spec-Ops model and proxy madtraps with some Crazy Koalas or markers

>- Assuming I lack the SWC to get the Crane with the spitfire: Multirifle/Assault Hacker or boarding shotgun?
Multi-rifle/AHD for still having hard shooting (B2 DA in reactive and B4 AP/Shock in active), being able to do objectives on a heavy infantry platform, and that Boarding Shotguns can still be covered by your regular Celestial Guard.

Daylami. 10 of them. Inferior infiltration. rolling 7/10 that means three or four actually get where they want while the rest are on a board edge in their deployment zone, out of marker state, otherwise being irregular and with the stats of an average line trooper with maybe a panzerfaust on half of them. The TAG itself can be easy enough to kill with a combat specialist, hack, or heavy shooting. Two mission capable specialists otherwise with the Hacker and Engineer. It's a neat challenge that can definitely catch some people through shock and luck but I don't exactly fear it. Getting the models without proxying would be a bitch for the Daylami.
>>
>>52574023
I'm alright with it taking a bit, like a previous anon said I'll have to clean up like 5 of them at most, and once that is done the morlocks and intruder will be just as good at taking down the maggie, if not better because I can give the locks E/M weapons and just suicide charge them for an IMM2

How would you guys design/fluff an Ariadnan TAG?

For me, design-wise it would be ARM 10, movement something like 2-2 or 4-2, equipped with something like 4x chain rifles, 2x panzerfausts, and an APCCW. No fancy gear or rules aside from Primitive TAG and Heavyweight, maybe V:Courage or somethign ot represent the pilot being a veteran trooper. Fluffwise it'd be effectively a power loader from Aliens with several inch-thick Teseum plating (provided by the Caledonians), with a Merovingian visual design, a Kazak pilot, and USAriadnan weapons, a true multinational project to thrust Ariadnan warfare to the modern era whether it is ready or not. I wrote this up on a whim, but it intuitively feels okay.

But why though?

I wanted to spam Asuras and backed with with camo units. I wound up replacing one of them with Achilles and couldn't justify not including a Sophotecht.

0/10, wouldn't defend the Human Sphere with.

I wanted to work in a way to have the mkII and mkIII but it was prohibitively expensive.

So I was a Yu Jing player who branched out to Haqqislam because of O:RV and I just recently played my first game with Qapu Khalki and I gotta say ... dang Yuan Yuan are so much fun.

Booty's a fun rule. Inferior Combat Jump is a fun rule (albeit with an EVO to bring the rolls up to a 14)

To die in an asymmetrical trade is fun. And on top of all that they have smoke!

Honestly I think a list with 20 orders with something like half of them camo is more scary than a list that's entirely camo.

If I come against you playing Ariadna but you only have 13 orders I'm going to feel a little relieved.

Feuerbach (for light cannon) or Red Fury (for AA cannon) sounds more fitting. Though I think CB has said they aren't doing vehicles.

There was some talk at a conference within the last year, however, that MRRF would get like a dune buggy.

The "so you like to hunt LTs" 11 Saladins list was good too.

Back in N2 (when camo markers were still effectively S2) it was hilarious to deploy the antipode controller in reserve and watch the opponent's reaction as he realizes he's completely misjudged what's under camo.

especially when you have only 2 in your DZ
