Say there were signets for each three color combination. They cost three to cast and two to tap and get your three colors. Would you play them?

>>
>>52481238
I think it has its place. You can practically tutor for it at any time once you have Scion out, so you can fetch it on a whim, but people will see it coming, so be wary of instant-speed grave hate they may or may not have.

Signets already have the drawback of having to use a minimum of two mana to colorfix, e.g. having Swamp, Swamp, Dimir Signet and wanting to cast Brainstorm is clunky. Expanding that to a minimum of 3 mana would cause issues a lot more often.

Make it either cost 2cmc and 2 to tap for 3 mana to ramp as much as a signet with better colorfix but worse for cheap spells, or 4cmc and 1 to tap for 3 mana to compete with Thran Dynamo, Hedron Archive etc.

Has anyone ever had success with Nemata, Grove Guardian? Instant speed blockers and a good mana sink for all that green mana, and it's not like buffing up hordes of tokens isn't a completely viable strategy.

I was just looking at her and realized with Illusionists Bracers she reads "2G: All saprolings get +4/+4". That kind of damage can end games if not dealt with right away.

Learn banding.
>>
Trying to build a zombie deck, but there's literally 0 good reanimate commanders

what commander do i even chose?
>>
>>52484704
Grimgrin. You're playing zombies, not reanimator. Zombies reanimate themselves.
>>
>>52484704
Who is Chainer?
>>
>>52481071
Hell no. I'm already bad at planning how to spend my mana in multicolored decks and often enough end up with a signet and no other mana to activate it. This new signet in a 4 color deck and I would get a stroke.
>>
>>52484613
Banding allows you to re-direct ALL damage to one creature, which effectively cockblocks trample. You can even bypass ____walk with it, if they band something with ____walk for some reason. That's why banding will never come back, it's a design sore.
>>
>>52481071
I'd run any standard 3 mana tap-for-any over Trisignets as described.
>>
>>52484911
I looked up banding a couple of times already and always forgot the exact rules for it after a while. It really is a terrible feature.
>>
>>52484911
Ah, ok, I thought trample said that excess damage is dealt to the controller, but it actually says that you may deal excess damage to the controller. Thanks for the info.
>>
>>52484613
When you control a creature with banding, you may freely distribute all damage dealt by any creature it blocks. This can allow you to
>Spread damage across a gang block so nothing of yours dies
>Pile all damage from the blocked creature onto one victim, letting Freddy McExpendable of the Red Shirt take one (or one hundred) for the team
>Screw over trample, Thorn Elemental, and so on by applying all the damage to one or more blockers.

Again, as long as at least one creature with banding is blocking said attacker.

If something blocks an attacking band, you get to do the same with damage incoming against the band, but that's the slightly less useful side of things. I use Baton to good offensive effect in Sultai Sidisi though to let her zombies run interference for her to mill me more. Any other commander with an attack trigger, like Radha, could also benefit by bringing a bodyguard along for the ride.
>>
>>52484992
naw, it's a perfectly reasonable ability. I wish White would get its old evergreen back.
>>
Making my first foray into EDH, gonnna build nath of the gilt leaf, How many non basics would you reccomend including?
>>
>>52485087
Depends on the budget. Out of 35 land I often run 20 nonbasics between duals and utility in tricolor decks, more like 15 in a two color deck like Nath

I'd consider a good first timer (so, budget) base to be Llanowar Wastes, Woodland Cemetery, Overgrown Tomb, Command Tower, a few other miscellaneous rainbow lands (City of Brass, Mana Confluence, etc.), some utility lands (Geier Reach Sanitarium for Nath? Arcane Lighthouse and Reliquary Tower are basically always welcome.) and... yeah, probably around 20 basics

What is the longest commander game you have played?

Who was your commander?

How did it end? I'm just curious.

For me it was around nine hours playing Brago, it was a perfect storm, no one was getting extra card draw and multiple board wipes left it being a war of attrition.

About 4 hours in a 4 person match.

I had Daretti, one guy had Skullbriar, another Geist of St.Traft and I can't remember the last but it was something control.

The game just kinda ended with my planeswalker always getting killed before I could use my ultimate, Skullbriar doing nothing but being killed whenever he entered the field and the other two doing nothing.

Eventually Geist ran outta cards and Skullbriar managing to get Swiftfoot Boots equipped for a trampling beatdown.

So I need your guys opinion. I have a jarad edh deck i'm working on and what do you think would be a better 4 drop ramp card, Frontier Siege, or Garruk Wildspeaker?
>>
>>52488370
I think Isamaru into Armageddon nets you the most points (4 points assuming you win, 2 for first blood, 3 from killing everyone else, 2 for casting Isamaru 3 times, 3 for Pathing someone's commander, 2 for Wrath/Armageddon)

Could also play Tagic for Razia's Purfication and burn spells to ensure 1st blood

also that point system is fucking gay (all point systems are gay, but this one especially), rewards board wipes, not casting your commander, and removing someone's commander multiple times. Literally encouraging people to play cancer goodstuff and bully any player whose behind for extra points. the penalties for infinite combo and 15th spell in a turn don't stack so I don't even understand why they're separate things. The "lifegain is ok as long as it's less than 50 a turn" is entirely arbitrary. The penalty points are also so low they get negated by winning the round.

I'd love if you posted the restricted list.

Ruric Thar "Oops All Permanents Punishment" deck. You run stuff like Eidolon of the Great Revel, Manabarbs, and Dictate of the Twin Gods, run heavy creatures but don't shy away from artifacts and enchantments totally, and wrap up with Primal Surge.

Primal Surge hits your entire deck and does not cast, meaning you will not lose points for either. Additionally, Radha-Ventmaw-Hellkite also isn't infinite, because you have to attack with Radha and she can die.

Fetchlands are extremely good in every format they're legal. The only fetches I've ever sold or traded were foil ones and I immediately replaced them nonfoils.

Cat tits isn't very good for voltron compared to 8.5 or Sram. People like her and make decks out of her because she's got cat tits, not because she's strong.

I really want to build WB Daxos because I want to play a cool deck like WB enchantments but yeesh every time I remember he has a super lame reward for going in on a theme that isn't really well supported in black or even really white so much.
>>
>>52491588
It's pretty cheap. Timewalk effects are the only expensive parts of the deck. The number and kind you use will impact the price a lot. There is a big difference between beacon of tomorrows and temporal manipulation.

The rest of the deck is some evasive Commons and a few cheap counterspells to protect against wraths.
>>
>>52491765
The trick I found with him is to have a very low average CMC in your deck. He also wants your removal to be in Enchantment form (though I run Anguished Unmaking/Utter End because they are Instants and never a bad draw).

You can even get away with just doing a 3 CMC or less theme with him (which is what a friend did as a self-imposed challenge. It did surprisingly well despite missing cards like Skybind, True Conviction, Grave Pact, and the more important Constellation creatures)
>>
>>52488078
I don't think so. Maybe if it were a one drop but while it does curve with karlov well enough since it's a 3 drop, you have a lot of better 3 drops after karlov, either other single life gain like the SOI soul sister that triggers itself and other soul sisters as it etbs since it's a creature or outright buffs like Duelist's Heritage or Ajani, Caller of the Pride) and you don't really care about the life gain per se, you just need to be able to do a lot, and while it's repeatable which can help a white and a discard is not cheap.
>>
>>52491765
I have heard you want nearly 0 other creatures and instead you need to go all in on enchantments since will make doods for you.

I'm wondering if I'm understanding this right.

Sakashima is a copy of Kraj, and all three creatures have +1/+1 counters. Does Kraj have an infinite number of instances of Patron's "untap all green creatures" ability (and whatever else, but they don't matter)?

I can't decide which deck to build next. On one hand, I've been meaning to build a spider tribal deck ever since I got into EDH and my urge has gotten much stronger (figured out about the Ishkanah + Nim Deathmantle + Ashnod's combo). However, play-testing Borborygmos Enraged has been a blast; ramping into multiple lightning bolts and other land high jinks is a cool way to play as well. Not trying to get anyone to choose for me but I'm curious as to how you decide on the decks you want to buy.

Shameless decklist plug, looking for feedback:

Why wouldn't they just have 2 instances? Since you have 2 kraj's feeding each other abilities

I assumed it was a continuous "I have all your abilites" thing going between the two. Kraj has a copy, Sakashima has a copy. Then they gain the copies from the other, "look" again to see more copies, and so on.

I drew polymorphists jest, turned all his protection into frogs and punched him for lethal with an Endless one
>>
>>52493198

Okay so i did some research

Each kraj checks the other creatures once and "updates" his abilities then. The relevant rule is that "each continuous effect only applies once". Because both kraj's abilities apply in the same layer, the one with the more recent time stamp will update later. So OG kraj checks the creatures and gets one instance of those abilities, and checks sakashima to get another instance of each of those abilities, so 2 of each ability. Then sakashima checks all those and gets 1 of each ability, then checks kraj and gets 2 more of each ability for a total of 3

This is actually relevant with patron of the orochi because the "once per turn" clause is restricted to the instance of the ability, so your sakashima can untap your forests and green creatures 3 times a turn
>>
>>52493386

Casual means different things, but I think just about every meta should include spot removal and board wipes, and those are pretty good at shutting down kaalia. If she gets a good start with lightning greaves or something it can be hard for a casual deck to stop, but that means it's going to be archenemy in multiplayer that game. One person hits the artifact removal for the boots, another hits the kill spell for kaalia

I don't think running good removal counts as "tuning your deck to beat kaalia" because removal is good in almost every matchup, especially in casual metas where there are no creatureless storm decks
>>
>>52493457
true but she demands an answer immediately. every time she's cast, you've better got something to say or something ridiculous is coming at you. it's not like she needs time to build up to something scary. you seem to need a lot more spot and mass removal when facing her.
>>
>>52491439
jihoria
>>
>>52493486

I definitely think she can be one of the better decks in a casual meta. I think she is weak to board wipes but strong against other decks that are just trying to play splashy creatures.

As you say she can put in some ridiculous cards like gisela or lord of the void, but those cards aren't going to kill a whole table in 2 turns, so your board wipes are not only going to get kaalia, prevent another fatty from coming down for 2 more turns (summoning sick kaalia) but also kill those fatties she already cheated in, setting her back on cards heavily

Kaalia is at her best against green decks, which tend to be weak to flying fatties and have less creature removal.
>>
>>52493555
doesn't green have a ton of "kill target flying creature" cards?

but yeah, she can be a pain to deal with. i feel like i'm racing the clock against her much more so than other generals, even some pretty powerful ones. her with some haste and a few big cards in hand can often outpace the table.
>>
>>52493607

Green does have anti-flying tech but those aren't super popular in my experience, the reason being that these cards are fairly narrow

As far as explosiveness, I agree that kaalia is one of the top choices in a casual meta. You aren't going to be able to race her with most decks other than something like a krenko/purphoros or an elfball deck. Kaalia is very explosive. Kaalia is not super resilient though. When kaalia is dead, it's hard for them to hardcast their fatties. And it's also not easy for them to recover from board wipes because they need to draw multiple fatties to get the ball rolling again
>>
>>52493652
the plan from now on is to keep my removal high and tutor up nevermore before my combo pieces.

not sure if hand stripping is worth it. might just be better to focus on the one critical link than deprive of all cards/resources.
>>
>>52493686

I definitely agree that against kaalia it's not really about overall resources and more about those few critical points where you can prevent her from swinging.

In multiplayer you can't save all your removal ever for kaalia but if she's giving you trouble then yeah she should definitely be one of your very high priority targets. And if she's giving you trouble in multiplayer, she's giving other people trouble too, you should be getting help with the removal on those critical turns where kaalia is summoning sick or where hasty kaalia is coming next turn due to greaves on board or something

Maybe I'm wrong, but I've seen seven different kaalia decks in the past 2 years by different people, and all 7 of them related with that picture.

Maybe it's a coincidence, I don't know.

All kaalia players, without fail, have a superiority complex and get unreasonably pissed when they're t3 kaalia gets removed before she can attack. >she demands an answer immediately. every time she's cast

This just isn't true. She only needs an answer on the first cast and it completely fucks the deck up. Once she dies the first time the caster will be stuck doing nothing for another 2-3 turns and by the time she can swing again people can just hard cast the same quality shit she was cheating into play.

Having removal up by the time the kaalia player hits 4 mana and before they swing is not a lot to ask for, but it is something you need to do.

I don't think that's what people are saying. EDH players decks usually explore some facet of their personalities, and Kaalia really does have a type of player associated with her, there is a clear trend (all anecdotal for sure, but people sure seem to be able to recognize it). She isn't an all star general, but it's the attitude of her players that gets to people. The only similar general I can think of is Oloro.

That hardly matters, since you asked about overall. Besides, brainstorm is just one of the things. The main gist is that you can replace cards in hand with top cards of your library and then shuffle. Wow, I threw together a prototype Nameta deck and she's proving to be quite powerful. Since she's an army in a can that can be cast as much as I need it was mostly anthems, protection and overrun effects rather than different types of tokens.

Her ability to sacrifice Saps can be used mid combat after they've been blocked, buffing up everyone that was let past every time, as well as giving your saprolings the ability to kill while blocking by buffign up one in particular. It's even stronger with Illusionists Bracers. I'm gonna fine tune this and see how under appreciated this Commander is.

How does Collected Company look for Edric? I have a spare one lying around and I was wondering if it'd deserve a spot in your usual flying men deck.

I can't deny Marath wouldn't be better, but I've seen plenty of them, and not one Nemata. She's a mostly forgotten legend that can do pretty well in the right setup, attacking with over a dozen 40/40's was achieved a few times in the games I played so far.

Plus outsmarting and killing people with plants is always fun thematically.
>>
>>52498526
You're paying 4 mana potentially bury Time Walks, for two mana worth of dudes.

You shouldn't really have problems having dudes in hand to cast.
>>
>>52498413
Not exactly. It depends on a lot of factors, chief being how many basics you run. Also they only really shine with fetches. Without the right support I think nearly any other cycle does it better. (Painlands, filters, city of brass&co, tainted lands, hell, even the citp tapped lands with benefits tacked on are better if you can't trigger the bfz ones)
>>
>>52498573
I figured. It's just not as much value in EDH in general. I guess I can just sell it for some dosh to buy more staples.
>>
>>52498166
It's basically a remove on sight artifact. Way too easy to win games with it.
>>
>>52498567
All of those would perform better in Marath except for Caged Sun and Gauntlet of Power, but you've got Mirari's Wake for that

I was thinking more like Hall of Gemstone and Wave of Vitriol for benefits

Last night we had a 4 hour game. I was on Slobad, against Sylvos, Shattergang, and Saskia, and god damn it was just a slog. Shattergang was on maximum Fun Police and making people sac tons of shit, Sylvos and Saskia were bringing the slap whenever they could, so I was kinda left in the dust.

Then Saskia got a Miracle Reforge off and I drew into an Obliterate and Blightsteel. With a Dictate of Karametra out. Floated all my mana, dropped Obliterate, then Blightsteel, then won.

So I'm trying to figure out counters for a Sakashima deck. Normally I want stuff to get through, but a Boompile or Skittles Babby must not be allowed. I have some bounce spells and a Cyclonic Rift for good measure.
>>
>>52494526
I'll admit, I play Oloro and I tend to dick around for several turns (countering things that might hurt me, flying under the radar) before combing out. But that's pretty much what combo decks do, what other choice do I have?

And no, I never actually cast him. But I don't pretend it's a thinking man's deck, I just got tired of smashing faces with fatties.

>>52494351
...Yeah.

>>52498900
I'll have you know, sir, that I am neither fat nor do I play a pillow fort deck! And Felidar Sovereign? Outrageous. I'd never win in such a way I prefer Lab Maniac and some horseshit to remove my library. I chose Oloro because I liked the colours and, as a gym rat who wasted four years in university studying philosophy, he spoke to me.

I bid you good day.

Why is it that there appears one of these faggots in every thread?
You want to play magic? You have to get the cards you want to make the deck with. If you can't afford a certain card, there's always cheaper alternatives. Play within your budget.
It's literally same thing with every hobby, besides maybe BFR, every hobby costs and good shit always costs, even though there's always cheaper alternatives. For example, you can buy a bike with a carbon fibre frame or just a regular bike, but obviously the former costs more.
>>
I know you guys don't really like helping new people, but we should, I don't know, maybe pin some budget commander decks? So people who want to get into this format or are poor, just like the faggot who wants to buy fake cards, can have something to play. Just saying.

>use last green mana on Concordant Crossroads and beat everyone to death
>>
>>52500691
Barefoot running. It was only hobby I could think of that doesn't cost anything.
I'm not really mad, but proxying is okay if you're playtesting a card to see if it's worth getting. Proxying because you don't want to pay for real stuff is not cool.
It's all meta dependant though, as everyone is fine with proxies in my meta, but no one really does it other than waiting for finding a card or waiting for it to come around or getting enough to buy one.
Like one of the guys proxied an Imperial Seal and now he's getting one after a long time he had the proxy.

Why is it that you proxyfags get really defensive whenever someone doesn't agree with you?
>>
>>52498195

Is there a monowhite general that's not boring as shit? I was thinking of somebody that's more combo-y and artifact friendly (artifact support would greatly help with white's ramp phobia), but most of them are something uber generic like "buff your dudes" or "debuff your enemy dudes".

>>

Really good in the right deck
>>
>>52500618
It's not that we don't like to help new people, it's that there are a few new shitposters who blow everything out of proportion. To add to it, the more welcoming we are, the more we encourage other places to post here, and eventually there will be nothing left. If a new player asks something that isn't "build me a deck using this magical list of cards I own but won't tell you" or "how do I turn my precon into a pubstomper" we're usually happy to help.
>>
>>52501372
Eight-and-a-half tails is super dynamic and versatile, but Sram seems like what you're looking for.
>>
>>52502656
Are you in green?
Does your plan of attack require tapping or attacking with creatures?

If you answered yes to both these questions, Crossroads might be for you. It's really a godsend to not have to untap with your infinite army of death and destruction, and lets you chain mana dorks for elfball shenanigans.
>>

It's two fucking packs, just crack that shit if you aren't going to draft it in the most of a month before AKH actually drops.

yeah its good. you get to swing in every turn as early as turn one and draw tons as early as turn 2-3
>>
>>52503581
I believe it would work well since it costs one mana to cast. Stays on the same pace with the flying men that edric normally uses.

Stax is such a fucking overrated archetype
>>
>>52503756
Not really. It's just memesters throwing the word around, but so far I've seen two proper stax decks, most have been stupid shit like goodstuff with a MLD spell, Smokestack and Tangle Wire and nothing else.
>>
>>52503581
Because it's symmetrical, particularily with Edric it isn't that great, provided you already have good haste enablers in equipment. Crossroads is amazing in monogreen with degenerate ramp generals like Selvala, Seton, Omnath whatever - you splurge half your deck out in one turn and Crossroads haste everything for the win.
>>
>>52503796
What's stax for you then? GAAIV, Gaddock Teeg and?
>>
>>52504083
Not him but I'd say Gaddock Teeg is more Hatebears than Stax. GAAIV definitely lends himself to stax more than anything.
>>
>>52504083
Not him but, a deck who's strategy is: use fast mana to throw down lock pieces (winter orb, tangle wire, smokestacks, lodestone golem, sphere of resistance, etc), then use your mana rocks to maintain resource advantage and continue playing torpor orb, silent arbiter, crawlspace, etc type effects to control the board, once a lock is established, tutor a combo or aggro beat down the board with blightsteel and the like.

What are some decent spells you can use to gain life every turn?

I'm planning on building Queen Marchesa and I'm going to include a few group slug effects that put damage on everyone as well as the typical black pay life draw cards type spells for myself and I wanted some things to help counteract it for myself.

I was thinking stuff along the lines of Palace Siege, Angelheart Vial, Gary, Ghost Council. Not necessarily full on dedicated life gain just something to help pay for some extra necro activations or phyrexian arena turns

i'm afraid EDH as a whole will die a horrible death eventually when the mentally ill spikes from the soon-dead modern format migrate over here and start playing splinter twin combos here or whatever they do
>>
>>52504940
I was talking shit about someone who was running Teferi planeswalker and literally nothing but counterspells, bounce, draw and bribery effects, and always had mana open to counter anything, damn near unbeatable especially if you're playing something that isn't specifically designed to deal with it, and the group organizer was like "Wow that sounds like a cool deck I'll have to check it out!"

Like legit just go play Standard or something cunt
>>
>>52505007
to be honest, it's an easy mistake to make to think that EDH is just another "i want to win" format. i mean, every other format is. people new to the format should be gently nudged in the direction of funhaving and 75% decks. some people won't listen though

>>
>>52505242
Phenax would allow you to turn Eldrazi's big butts into mill if you wanted. It's not a good plan but with all the cards in the format that tutor to the top of the library it'd mean all you'd need is an untapped creature to fuck with it

Vela would give all your colorless devoid creatures Intimidate to swing through your opponents' blockers
