Traveller is a classic science fiction system first released in 1969. In its original release it was a general purpose SF system, but a setting was soon developed called The Third Imperium, based on classic space opera tropes of the 60s, 70s, and 80s, with a slight noir tint.
Though it can support a wide range of game types, the classic campaign involves a group of retired veterans tooling around in a spaceship, taking whatever jobs they can find in a desperate bid to stay in business, a la Firefly or Cowboy Bebop.

A kind anon in an earlier thread wrote and posted this guide to the differences between MgT1e and 2e.

I need to play more Traveller.

Thats a cool breakdown
>>
A note for last thread (I missed the end of it, since I was working a lot and couldn't afford to give up sleep time for computer time) -
The best version of Traveller is Your Version.
GT is split between GURPS 3rd (or 2nd, I can't remember which) and 4th. 4th covers the Interstellar War era (and is named appropriately), 3rd covers an AU.
I'm not sure which is better for me: MGT or T5 - MGT is very flexible meh, but T5 is just still confusing me. I got most of the basics, it's just tracking down the tables and interpreting them.
>>
So i have been looking at the Central Supply Catalog in MgT2e and i have been wondering, are there any rules for creating robots? The chapter just kinda mentions which traits they can have, but doesn't tell me how to calculate cost, etc.

>The best version of Traveller is Your Version.

That simple truth cannot be repeated enough.

The best version of Traveller IS Your Version.
>>
>>52362683

I think the MGT2 robots book isn't out yet. No telling if it will be good or not, it's Mongoose after all.
>>
Wasn't there an effort to create a /tg/ sector using the tables in Mongtrav?

And if there wasn't can there be?
>>
>>52365425

Yeah, Tiji Sector. which is kind of a name clash with the 40k sector project. Here's the last thread that SupTG has archived:

http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/37961700/

There might be more in 4plebs, but I didn't check.
>>
Has anyone ever run an active duty campaign? Navy, Scouts, Marines, etc.? If so, how'd it turn out?
>>
>>52362683
>>52365405

Not out yet, but it is planned. Someone from Mongoose said that they will be treating robots in the same manner as they are currently treating animals. Which means don't expect an actual design sequence. So most likely going to be crap (unless you actually like how they are doing animals in 2e).
>>
MgT 2e:
Is it possible to retrain skills?
Say I've specced into slug weaponry, but we've achieved a TL where lasers are more common, but I can't use them.
>>
>>52370361
RAW I don't think so.
Make the point to your ref that realistically all your char is doing is trying to unlearn ballistics and recoil. Not something you do in a day, but the sort of thing that shouldn't take too long
>>
Horrible time to ask, as I'm about to pass out, but what are the main differences in original Traveller and Mongoose?
>>
>>52372786

Off the top of my head, before I too pass out, I can tell you this much:

Stuff that requires changes to make adventures and stuff compatible:
× MGT has armor as DR rather than hit reduction
× Animal encounters work totally different

Stuff that only affects how it plays:
× Different combat systems for ships and people
× Chargen is longer and more involved
× Skills are more generously given out than CT's basic chargen, but not as generously as in advanced
× Some changes in ship building rules

Also
× Classic books are generally better written and edited than Mongoose's stuff
>>
>>52372786
Probably leaning to Classic Traveller, probably with several adjustments such as a somewhat more advanced level of/commonality of both cybernetics and mobile computing.

Unless y'all really convince me that's going to ruin the fun, which I can also totally get behind.
>>
>>52367588
It might be possible to reverse engineer something from the existing robots in the chapter. I'll look into it when i get home
