Eldar is the easiest route. The downside is that most psyker buffs won't work without being battle brothers.

I'd almost suggest you go for Space Marines. They have a very wide array of powers to choose from, and it should be easy enough to keep them far enough away from the rest of your force one way or another.

Played 1500 Space Marine vs Kriegers today. Lost pretty badly because this was his deployment zone, plus a deathstrike missile behind the structure. Funny game though, especially when I got into close combat with his infantry squads.

Eldrad's gambit to awaken Ynead didn't fail in the Deathwatch Codex, but instead was somewhat successful.

Mary Sue Eldar bitch levels up in a Dark Eldar Gladiator fight, causing Commoragh to get swarmed in now-freed tyranids and daemonic invasion as the Gate of Khaine busts open from the Mary Sue connecting to the now-stirred Ynead. She goes on a journey to collect some swords of power to awaken Ynead fully, and draws Chaos (who knew of this disturbance) towards Biel-Tan. The craftworld gets fucked and bans her from setting foot there, while some Biel-Tan people join her. They go on a magical journey through the webway, blue-ball Ahriman, and show up on that ice world on the outskirts of the Cadian system in order to help out Cawl and the Gang.

All because of psychic visions of the future and destiny and shit.

In the most elite Dark Eldar arena, Lilith Hesparex, a succubus named Yvraine, and some other people are fighting for the crowd's amusement. During the climax of the fight when a horde of captured tyranids are release, Lilith stabs Yvraine in the heart, and Yvraine is then killed by another witch in the arena. At the exact moment of her death, however, she's resurrected because that was the moment Eldrad's attempt at awakening Ynnead failed. Her ressurection causes a bunch of shit to happen though, the tyranids start to run rampant and the Khaine's Gate is breached, leading to a demonic invasion of Commoragh. In the confusion everyone tries to start killing Yvraine, including Vect's cabal. She decides to escape using her old Corsair allies, and during her run to their vessel she meets up with the Visarch and his Incubi. She, a contingent of her wychs, the Visarch, his Incubi, and some surviving corsairs are able to escape into the webway, where they encouter Slaaneshi daemons. Harlequin save them from being slaughtered and guide them towards Biel-tan.

It is important to note that she did not actually awaken it fully. It's a fragment of Ynnead that is awake, much like Khaine is but a fragment of actual Khaine.

Trying to put together another Castellans Black Templar list over here.

I was wondering if taking a Techmarine and a Rad Grenade Inquisitor might be a good idea.
A Chaplain or Priest seem kind of obsolete, since I always felt that the Hatred half of Zealot was the most important one anyway and stuffing a Techy with Harness into my main LRC doesn't seem like a terrible idea, considering how bad an unfixable Grav-hit usually is for them. The Harness is also a decent weapon, even if it costs like a Fist.

Thoughts?
My main issue is getting the core down to actually make use of my Land Raiders and large troop blobs.

Meanwhile Biel-tan mobolizes for war as the seers determine that the Slaanesh Masque is going to attempt to invade the craftworld using a big-ass portal on a Maiden World. With Skarbrand's help she is successful in gaining access to the craftworld and she is even able to infect the craftworld's Infinity Circuit when Yvraine and her train arrive at the craftworld turning to shit. Speaking to the gathered seers, exarches and autarches Yvraine claims she is able to bring Ynead to life, but to do so would kill the craftworld. This nearly gets her and her entourage killed but Jain-Zair and the Visarch step in to protect her. By damaging the wraithbone core of the Infinity Circuit, Yvraine brings the Yncarne to life. Some think it's a Slaaneshi demon and some think it's the real deal but in the confusing they don't murder Yvraine. As a large group of believers rally to Yvraine, Ulthan and Ulthwe farseers open a portal to Biel Tan and usher them through

Eldrad's ritual fails at the same moment Yvraine dies in a gladiator fight, comes back from the dead as a prophet of the Eldar God of death. Demons invade Cormorragh, but that's just Tuesday for the deldar. She's joined by this possibly undead guy called the visarch and tries to escape to the web way. Several demonic incursions later she gets to bel-tian.

Bel-Tian finds out she's coming, gets invaded by demons, tHey start eating the infinity circuit, Yivraine purges them and goes on a quest for some old Eldar swords to empower her God.

Eldrad gets locked up for Eldar heresy by the Eldar inquisition after he does something to bring the death God and his avatar to ulthuan. They go into the eye of terror to look for more swords. Haemonculi and demons get owned.

Finally they go to Iyanden, it's invaded by demons, they kill prince yriel but nurgle's a swell guy so he is resurrected by his spear which is the last sword.

They travel to some ice moon in Cadia, Ahriman hears death God and wants his ruberics resurrected so tries and fails at coercing the ynnead. Everyone meets at ice moon and decides to go to ultramar.

Now there's a suicide death cult of Eldar running around trying to death level their God. And Lilith left vect, commerragh is going to have another war between malus and vect the rest of the Eldar don't know if Yivraine is an Eldar arch-heretic committing Eldar heresy or not.

FTFY. Eldar are a fragment of what they once were, and while they're extremely advanced, they are so fractured and so sparsely-flung across the galaxy that they no longer dominate the galaxy as they once could. Now, they are reduced to attempting to influence the Imperium into doing what they want, which is a spotty plan at best when it comes to species survival.

Thoughts about this? It's probably terrible, I just tried to make an army out of all the imperial models I've bought mainly to build/paint. So mainly this is an army of things I like the look of, not really metagamed at all. The only one I don't have (SoS are pre-ordered) is the librarian, needed him as an HQ for the drop pod squad in order to field them as allied.

Also, is it possible to field cawl, cel, or greyfax individually? I've got them grouped up because it didn't seem like I could remove them from the triumvirate legally. Basically I'm asking if I can use one of them as an HQ instead of the librarian but still field the other two independently (they wouldn't be HQ because of the firespear strike force)
>>
>>52249635
The most there is is a "Magic and Tabletop" group in the area where I'm already friends with a bunch of people and already asked around how the 40k scene looks in the memberbase on their facebook, with no reactions. There's also the organizer's e-mail but asking there would just be silly.

I would gladly talk to the guys about it if I knew how to actually approach them on that. It's not like I'm a complete anti-social wrack, I get along with all of them and we chat and banter during and between games whenever there is a tournament. It's just that I have no fucking clue how to ask someone "Yo, how about I come over to your place to play a bit of Warhammer" without it sounding like I want to bone them.

Being the youngest one in the store with a ~8 year gap at 21 doesn't help with that situation either.

I have the same issue when it comes to asking out girls I get along perfectly well.

Let's not forget Girlingman broke that sword during the heresy for some reason. During Curze's trial, Lion goes to kill Curze, stops when Sangy tells him too, Bobby takes his sword and breaks it over his knee, and then Lion is banished. According to the wiki. I don't read Black Library.

My AdMech soldiers are rebels fighting for a schismatic despot at the edge of Segmentum Obscurus. I figured it was easier to make my troops the "bad guys" then try to work around others' troops and stories, etc. I'm not worried about explaining fighting the sisters, just the fact that I expect not to fight anything else since everyone'll be playing sisters like they haven't been viable in years or something.

I keep my Forge Worlds heavily populated so my units that die can be "replaced" with "new draftees."

Want to get into the game and I like admech the most, have been advised that starting with a 500 point army is a good way to go, so pic related. Does it seem OK? It's just the start collecting box + destroyers.

It's either this or go SM which I don't really wanna do since they're so popular and I'm an insufferable hipster.

Seems like it could be alright. The only thing I would say is that you may need to double-check how Ad Mech detatchments/formations work. They aren't really one army, so mixing them together is tricky.

It's a decent start, but I'd maybe consider picking upbanother SC box instead. Getting 2 Skitarii units instead of 3 Destroyers is a good trade-off, especially since you'll also be able to use the Dominus Maniple that way.

Yeah, I'd obviously not even consider running such a giant point sink in anything below 1500 or 1850 even. Figuring out how to field a Land Raider under 1000 is a whole different adventure that I'll need to do extensive playtesting for.

Was considering maybe running 1 full Land Raider like that alongside a Las/Plas Crusader squad or two, a Drop Pod 5/5 Crusader squad with Melta and Combi-Melta to maybe dent a vehicle (possibly even with a Fist and Melta Bombs to go into melee with it the next turn) and another either 5 man or 5/5 squad in a Rhino or Razorback to drive around capping, though I suppose using a tactical squad for that would make more sense due to combat squad.

Only other option that comes to mind would be an Enginseer to run after a Rhino or something. With the Imperium had an effective long-range support HQ to use in that detachment. Coteaz seems like the only other viable option to have that wouldn't require him to be up-close to do his job.

Tyberos is by far the best option. I'm a fan of sometimes running a jump pack/teeth of terra/lightning claw/artificer armor guy instead, but that's actually more expensive for basically a unit less effective against most non-GEQ targets (although more mobile) and which doesn't boost your Chapter Tactics.

Also Tyberos lets you take Assault Termis as troops (only 1 unit, must have LCs, no SS/TH) which can be lulzy as either an Obsec Marine-mulching deepstriking "fuck you" or for an Obsec Land Raider
>>
>>52251112
I actually meant that there must be something in Fires that would need a lot of testing. The things they should add all seem like pretty simple balancings.

Come to think of it, they might've just decided to wait for 8th for its release. Things are pointing towards AdMech being unified and designing the book split between Skitarii and CultMech, just for the both to be combined 3 months later, would be silly.

Does the gets hot make it so it's not as expensive as it could be or because the gun would be too strong otherwise? I am new and have never actually played a game with a gets hot weapon in it so as I said this might be rather stupid.
>>
Okay so I see a bunch of off-topic shit here so I thought I'd post. I've been into 40k since I was given an Uplifting Primer when I was 14 (19 now) and have kept up reading ever since. I finally decided to get into tabletop recently, however.

So I, being a hipster asshole, chose Dark Eldar. Im now waiting on my latest purchases to get here, and my army is as such:

Archon w Blaster, Haywire grenades

9x Kabalites in a raider with DL and splinter racks
kabalites in venom with splinter cannons
and another 5 kabalites in a venom with splinter cannon
3 reavers with heat lance

So with this I'm exactly 500 points. Where should I go from here to expand later on? And what could I do better?

Also, I've been offered a Tantalus, never been removed from the box, for $50 CAD. Is it worth picking up for later?
>>
>>52251163
There's nothing in the 30k mechanicum list that would get people pissy in 40k. Most of the 40k stuff can do it better.

Scoria is hilarious, but I doubt he would make the jump into 40k.

> Medium teams beat hordes
Ehh, not necessarily. I had a 10-man kill team with 5 scouts and 5 sternguard vets go up once against a Renegades and Heretics list of 60 cultists. Said faggot was sweeping an entire tournament, and I was the only one to come even close to beating him, by killing 45 of his cultists..

Horde armies beat everything except in Heralds of Ruin, where it's straight up impossible since HOR has an absolute model limit of only 24 dudes unless you're playing GROTS.

My 'medium' team is also explicitly designed from the ground up to mercilessly shred small elite teams to pieces. Terminator lists are kinda shit in kill teams because they're too easily picked apart, and they're vulnerable as fuck to rout tests.
>>
>>52250689

I would've mostly considered the transports as needing some adjustments, as they do seem a bit undercosted for what they bring.

As I said, none of it would be a huge deal to balance and shouldn't take longer than a week for everything if the team actually worked on it.

Frankly, AP2 shooting should go back to being hard to come by in all codexes for the same reasons they nerfed power weapons. Plasma guns are S7 Ap2 gets hot. That's fine because we have all had models just kill themselves on the first shot. Stuff like Tau and Eldar plasma without gets hot, you know the S6 Ap2 shit should be S6 Ap3 and/or have a price hike.

>Also, I've been offered a Tantalus, never been removed from the box, for $50 CAD. Is it worth picking up for later?

Yes. But if you don't want it, sell it to me instead. 100% serious.

Also at 500 points that's not a bad list at all, but that Archon loadout is useless at low points values. When you get the box, build your 10th Kabalite Warrior with a Splinter Cannon, because eventually you won't want the Archon to be riding around in the Raider anymore (since he's totally useless in there). Then later on you can put him in a Blasterborn Raider squad.

PROTIP:
With 2 Kabalite sprue sets (for the 20 Warriors) you only get 2 Blasters. But you also get Blast Pistols and Shredders. Cut the tip off the Blast Pistol, stick it to the Shredder after cutting the tip off of that too, and congrats. You now have weapons for a Blasterborn squad, which you can build after. Then stick the Sybarite pole things to their backs if you want to identify them as elite guys.

At 1000 points you'll want to give your Archon a WWP so he can be useful to the Blasterborn-in-Raider squad. Consider that when you're modelling the Archon. Also I forget if the Archon sprue comes with a Blaster or not but either way by the time you get a 3rd sprue (to make Trueborn) you'll have enough Blasters.
>>
>>52251430

THAT IS EXACTLY THE FUCKING PROBLEM

The whole theme of the Space Marine faction is durability. You have a whole army with 3+ saves, woah! They are SUPPOSED to be durable.

In early editions they were the most durable things out there. Everything had 3+ armor (terminators had 3+ on 2d6), they had toughness 4 when any toughness value higher wasn't common (couldn't get T 5 just for a bike), and there weren't a bunch of invuln saves and feel no pain being tossed around to make up for it.

Believe it or not, there was a time when 3+ armor meant something

>At what point would I start looking at flyers? I may pick up a Voidraven based on the gorgeous model alone either way.

It's a great model. I'm planning to get one solely for display purposes. Flyer usage depends on your meta - I don't use any. Generally you wouldn't use more than 1 at 1000 points in a casual game, and even then my personal opinion is you should clear it with your opponents. At 1250 or 1500 points you should be fine to include 1 or 2 even in casual games.

Figuring out how DE works is hard because you tend to get destroyed by even basic infantry weapons, kek. I have found that using multiple small units and tables with a lot of terrain is basically your best bet. Units should be specialized rather than generalist. Read The Dark City's tactic forums for help. EG. Using Reavers to screen for other units is helpful for keeping some stuff alive.

Personally I think Dark Lances are a massive waste on Raiders because they're going to be jinking all the time anyway and basically never actually get to shoot. If they do get to shoot, the Disintegator is going to be better against the sort of targets the Warriors on board want to shoot, anyway. I've found that Nightshields are generally worth their points on Raiders, some others disagree though. Don't be afraid to proxy some stuff to test how it works. I always build my Reavers with Cluster Caltrops rather than a Heat Lance, but if I weren't doing CCs then I'd go with the Lance, it's definitely not a bad option. Keep in mind that most of your vehicles, and Reavers, will be jinking all the time (the alternative is "will be dying all the time" kek)

Pretty much. The basic marine statline hasn't really changed. It's even better in some regards thanks to chapter tactics.

The difference is guns got better over the years. Better AP, more shots. Things like Lascannons and Heavy Bolters don't hold a candle compared to the new stuff.

Then to compensate, they made cover saves better and easier to get. Then all the fancy guns ignored cover. Then they made feel no pain easier to get. Then all the new guns were strength D. Then they made invuln saves easier to get. Now we have relics that just ignore invuln saves.

They're slowly burning through all the ways to make a model durable to make any new gun seem threatening.

The trouble is that stuff is so easy to get now, the only thing that matters on infantry as far as defenses go is how cheap the wound stat is compared to its firepower.
>>
>>52251701
>>52251647
Somehow I think it has less to do with their pure durability as it does their damage/tank ratio. Individual marines are not durable--units are, through ATSKNF + easy access ObSec.

Bolters are the "standard" weapon. So every coolguy with coolgun (tm) has to have something better than the standard. It's a Worf Effect. Unlike their tank, this does not scale with the unit. Bolters are still pretty shit with 5 dudes or 10 dudes.

It isn't so much that Marines can't hold the line. They do that exceptionally well. They just don't have time to do damage with their shitty guns, so it seems like they aren't tanky enough because they "didn't get the job done."
>>
>>52251723
This >>52251751

Anti-marine weapons existing is fine. The problem is how easy it is to get them for low cost in a large volume.

Any AP 2 or better weapon with more than 2 shots is most likely undercosted or has a far longer range than should ever be reasonable.

So according to Sangy's last vision which was revealed very recent novel that includes Gathering Storm lore it, Terra in the future will be besieged by the forces of Chaos and the Tyranids. Abaddon through conventional warfare took out Cadia aka the second most defended planet in the Imperium. He accomplished this in a timeframe of under a month. Seriously, the AoS system works and could make the game a lot more fun by removing AP.

There are no modifiers that affect armor saves.

And back when there were, termies had 3+ on 2D6.

It doesn't really matter how well it would work or not because the (unjustified) customer outrage it would cause would be too big a risk for a publicly traded company to take
>>
>>52252232
In AoS a weapon can have a rend value, like for instance Rend -1. So any attacks that land and do damage cause the enemy unit's save to be reduced from like a 4+ to a 5+.

Same reason Space Yiffs get everything they want. Phil Kelly loves them. For an army to be good, they need to have someone at GW pulling for them.

No one loves the Blood Angels so they don't get any good rules. Just look at the FAQ, our vanguard vets weren't given the new heroic intervention rule purely out of spite.
And there is no reason for Lemartes to take up an elites spot all by himself when Arjac and Lukas become free options if you take Wolf Guard or Blood Claws.

>>
>>52252247
I understand how armor modifiers work. As I just said, back when 40k used to have them (meaning 40k had armor modifiers), it was a 3+ save on 2D6. And in the case of then and now, a 7E 2+ save or a 3+ on 2D6 are both much better than a 3+ without modifiers against massed small arms fire. You'd make them laughible against guardblobs as it is now twice as easy to wound them.

Furthermore, there is still the issue of new units filling their same roll, better. For example, centurions have better armor for some reason, giving them the same save and +1T and can fire better weapons in addition to more weapons.

>>
Terminators are actually OK for Death Guard at least. As cheap as normal CSM termis but forced MoN. Fearless, T5 and fnp with shrouded against longrange shooting makes them a little better against some of the bullshit firepower that'll usually just wipe them out. However that's true for any DG units, so it's probably still more effective to run normal CSM squads and bikers. But at least it makes them worth their points.

Does Blood Angels get the new Terminator models w/rules, or do I just use them as regular terminator models?

>>
>>52252505
Nope, only normie marines get them. You can use them in 30k however.
>>
>>52252366
it is more than you might think. A few seconds off each attack roll adds up to a big chunk of time over the course of the whole game.

Normalizing S/T/W could also help smooth out spikes of bad rolls if Space Marines and such end up being multiwound models.
>>
>>52252596
Once you know what results you're looking for it doesn't take any more time than a fixed roll.

GW dramatically over value multiple wounds on low toughness, models with no other kinds of survivability traits. You could drop 10 points off their base cost and they'd still only be okay compared to a 1 wound model with a 3+ save and feel no pain.

>>52253317
As a nid player I generally expect tyranid units to be generally worse than certain factions at certain things, long range shooting in particular. But there's absolutely no excuse for everything being both worse and more expensive than similar units in other armies.

The Tyrannofex Vs Riptide is a really great example actually, because their profiles are practically identical, the only differences are 1 more wound and 1 more WS on the fex and 1 more Ld on the riptide and their costs are almost identical.

But then you look at the details and the riptide is a fucking jet pack unit and everything that entails, has a boostable invulnerable save, has access to feel no pain and, interceptor and a bunch of other shit and when everything is said and done, costs less points for a more useful unit.

What the actual shit, if units are going to be total garbage they should at least be cheap.

>He thinks "Ignores armour saves" and "AP2" are different in any way other than the wording

>>52253898

Relentless makes the whole choice aspect of Salvo, which is meant to balance it, utterly redundant.

Bikes provide increased survivability and increased maneuverability for very low cost. If you can shove something on a bike, you should. This never does not apply.

Finally, Grav is fantastic against everything except hordes which no-one runs.

So you're essentially sticking the most viable gun on the most viable platform and calling it a day.

What is modifiers on the damage table against vehicles?

>>
>>52253973

The three things to avoid in the space marine codex and supplements to not be labeled WAAC:

Grav, because it straight up is overpowered. Using it lightly/on a model where salvo is actually a downside such as a tactical marine with a Grav gun isn't a big deal, but some people will still treat it as such because Grav stigma.

Invisibility, a psychic power that is still one of the most broken things in the game as it can make other things broken, or worsen their brokenness tenfold.

Free transports, because a wall of free obsec is a massive advantage in objective games, and having to play endless can opener in kill point games is still hella infuriating.

You need some mobile things, bikes, raptors, maybe that raptor talon formation.
your zerkers/CSM champs should get a melee weapon to do some damage to higher Toughness targets.
This way you have a one-trick pony with a rather weak punch

To be fair, I don't think she knew her audience very well. When she and her friends were let into the Iron Warriors base, she described Servitors as"the emotionless cyborg killers", Iron Warriors as"emotionless cyborg killers in big suits" and DarkMech as"the emotionless cyborg killers who wear black robes". She's not wrong, but maybe she'll get better with practice.
