Man, apparently getting two releases is most of them. Wow, how hard is the self-projection.

Not really. Black Templar's are blinded by their faith, meanwhile Hallowed Knights will not mind forging alliances with other entities, such as undeath and ironjawz.

Tempest lords are a nobiliary stormhosts, but they also are very down to earth. Astral templars may be closer to Space Wolves but it doesn't come quite close, since they put a different emphasis on the "barbarian" angle.

I mean, if you want to make such a balance with just a line of fluff... be my guest I guess.
>>
>>52212414

I'm pretty sure you're trying to make a point there. But you're a clear example of wrote something yet said nothing.

What's the best way to play elite armies?
I feel like I'd struggle to play the objectives game as I can just get tarpitted.
However my guys should be able to melt through any enemy units without a worry, so do I just form a few blobs and march them onto objectives?
>>
>>52212734

This is literally why Sudden Death objectives exist.
>>
>>52212751
Alright, I'll check through my handbook. Sorry for the stupid question anon.
>>
There are good rumors Cthulhu Aelves are coming. If you watch the beginning of the Kharadron video look at the art of the ships and the tentacles slowly creeping in. Hasting says it's possible it's them and he says they are supposed to be coming this summer sometime.

So I think we'll have some sky competition.
>>
>>52212522
My headcanon is that the aether-gold is a red herring, and those spheres are actually boilers full of tea.

Anyone ever faced or ran a grot/goblin army in AoS? It seems like fun but at the same time I was told to avoid the older armies as they will have little to no support.

Not true, Flesh Eater Courts, Sylvaneth, Bonesplitters and Beastclaw Raiders are all old armies and they have full battletomes.

>>
>>52212888
Sylvaneth are partially new, though.

>>52212892

They've actually been mentioned thrice, on three different books.
>>
>>52212913
1 out of 4 got some new models as well as keeping the old.

That supports they will be supported, not that they won't.
>>
>>52212840
No, nobody has ever used goblins before, anon. You are literally the first person to think of that.
More seriously, Moonclan are good and offer a shitload of denial as well as very cheap hordes. Lack of a BT is not an issue, really. We might still get one as various other old forces got them as well, and even without we're pretty decent overall.
>>
>>52212897
>going to take absolutely forever
Wecome to Sylvaneth. You'll be here forever, so make yourself comfortable.
>>
>>52212899
Instant chubby
>>
Which faction would fit my requirements best?
- Fairly cheap
- Good in 1000pts games
- Not as "swarmy" as Skavens but I don't mind to play with plenty of models - just don't want to run 50+ of them
I like all factions aesthetic and fluff-wise so it's all about cash and model count
>>
>>52212999
You can probably find some high elf models from that boxed set that came out a while ago. It was dirt cheap and you can probably find the elf half of the set on e-bay if you dig around a bit for very cheap.
>>
>>52212955

It wasn't said that no one else ever has used grots/goblins, it was just asked if anyone here had used them or played them in AoS. If I thought no one had ever played them I wouldn't ask others about their experience playing with/against them.
>>
>>52212999

There's not a huge amount of armies that aren't good in 1k.

If your main concern is price, Ogres are always the cheapest.
>>
>>52212888
>Flesh Eater Courts
One of the VampCunts core troops and fairly uncommon Strigoi line retooled to be cursed and deranged !Bretonnians.
>Sylvaneth
Basically a new line.
>Bonesplitters and Beastclaw Raiders
Fair point. But then you've also got to add in...
>Fyreslayers and Kharadron Balloonmen
Which are pretty much completely unlike anything resembling their old faction.
>>
>>52212913
Not to disbelieve you, but can you say what books?

I'd like to read more about flying gobbos.
>>
Why do I see people online talking about using a hurricanum to buff thier order armies(high elves and shit) when it clearly states on the battletome it only effects freepeople units? Was it changed or is everyone but me retarded?
>>
>>52212882
Hastings DID correctly predict the timing of the Kharadron release. I don't see why not to trust him on this one.
>>
>>52212948

I'm not disagreeing with you, just saying that Sylvaneth ain't an entirely "old" army. Neither is Ironjawz. I think that AoS will do a three-pronged pattern:

1) Do new factions (SCE, KO, KBB)

2) Update and re-skin factions (FEC, BCR, BS)

3) Take a concept of a sub-faction and expand up ont (IJ. Sylvaneth, DoT)

Time, of course, will tell us which approach they'll favour.
>>
>>52213122
I checked it yesterday and just a second ago as I wanted to start a free people's army.
"you can add 1 to the hit rolls of any ORDER units" not free people, order. That's from the most recent website PDF.

Maybe the scroll is outdated on your country's webstore? or you have an old warscroll saved? or if it's in the physical order book it's probably outdated honestly.

Not either of you -- however, second anon is right and it's all Order units -- but I kinda love and kinda hate the Hurricanum. Plus, my theoretical Freeguild are definitely not Chaos renegades. No, no, not at all. But if one were to place the Hurricanum beside the Chaos Warshrine, would the sizes be about the same for the same of kitbashing?

...also, wait, shit, that means the Hurricanum works on cannons, too.

What books are they in, if anything?

I don't want to drop money on the Chaos alliance book just for one small part of it.
>>
That name of Khagamaga Ollymadoos has made me think of a possible concept on how to introduce "Bretonnia" again.

The Kingdom of Sunthaamar.

"Honor is all"
"Chivalry is all"

This words are spoken as a spiel amongst the loyal knightly circles of the Sunthaamarii. These noble beasthunters strive for martial purity and perfection as they ride their exotique beasts.

These words hail from the Ur-Paladin. Jerrod the World-Stryder, He who strode the last charge of the World-That-Was and broke its last lance against the fell forces of chaos.

Basic Units: demi-gryph knights an footmen.

"Scouting"/"Pariah" unit: the Rough Riders, units riding gore-gruntas (an unknightly steed) and wielding axes and bows (unknightly weapons)

"Fast attack units" a unit riding gryph-chargers "Wingless-Ussarans" and a unit riding some bird-like creature "Ikarea-Lancers"

Heavy chargers, have them ride dracoths or some very mean critter. "Tiamathia Chargers.

Heroes: lady doing magic (self-explanatory) Paladin riding a fast steed and another riding a big critter.

Unique Hero: [Insert Cool Name], King of Sunthaamari. Rides one of the dragons that the bonesplitters are hunting in their battletome, wields Jerrod's weapon.

Kinda depends on your store manager. I use a lot of kitbashed TK at my local store with non-gw bits, but enough of the models are mixed with plenty of GW bits that the manager is cool with it. There is only one model he doesn't let me play with. He's a pretty cool dude. If you are trying to bring in something like whole Mantic units that will not fly.

They're the soldiers of an oligarchy rising out of the fiery hellscape of Aqshy, the sprawling metropolis built around and over a volcanic furnace that is rumored to have been built by Grungni himself. Masters of blackpowder and engineering, their artificial defenses and the city's natural defenses kept the waves of Chaos at bay though the city's allegiance to Sigmar waned in his absence and slowly theologians began to give praise instead to artifice itself. Their patron was simply a mask for Chaos, however, as the city continued to produce instruments of war and carnage. Dark sorcery, crazed brilliance, and warpfire forges gave a horrific semblance of life to daemon-engines down in the searing foundries.

tl;dr: Chaos Renegades + Freeguild, inspired entirely by pic related

Army itself is mostly hypothetical, though I do now have pretty much the entire thing sourced other than some conversion work that I'll probably have to simply work out by getting both kits and seeing how to smash it together. Those two being fusing a Maulerfiend/Forgefiend with a Steam Tank. Rest of the line is Perry Miniatures Revolutionary War Brits, though with Outriders/Pistoliers mounted on Chaos Marauder horses and Demigryphs on Chaos Knight horses. Oh, and Guard as linemen with swords and probably pavises though I might go with Chaos Warrior or Marauder shields.

A bunch of aelves that were busy out fighting Chaos when Tyrion closed off his realm. They've come to believe it's their duty to uphold his teachings and live their lives according to his writ, so that when he returns he shall not find them wanting.

The Loremaster of Hoeth is something of an old rabbi type, and the oldest of the wandering tribe. It's said that he's old enough to have met the God himself, and cunning enough to once have argued the minutae of law with him and won.

The battleline are spearmen and reavers, because of course they are. Ofcasionally I'll throw in some Freeguild Archers because I want to use my elven archers and they're also battleline. They're the poor wandering ones, whose life has been dedicated to upholding his laws, one of which is to fight chaos wherever it may be found.

My more elite troops are Dragon-Blades and Phoenix Guard. Those who prove themselves to be capable warriors can go under tutelage of those who already are, to learn ever more absurd and constraining rules, but in return also learn ancient fighting styles from long ago.

The Dragonlord is the clan's leader, as much so as the rabbi is. The Dragon also walked alongside the God, Tyrion, and he chooses his riders for their grace, dignity, and willingness to open doors and other things requiring thumbs.

The final piece of the clan is the holy artifact they're guarding. Again I'm borrowing from the Human model line for elves, but there's a single piece that says that they know Tyrion will return for them. A gift from the God of Light that emits holy radiance that punishes the wicked and unjust. The physical embodiment of their promise to be found again, should they stay faithful. The Luminark of the Covenant.

I get the mythology feel. The best way I can describe AoS is it's a mythic fantasy, or high fantasy. A fantasy where the gods have direct dealings and intervenings with mortals. The stuff of ancient greek and roman or norse myths. Therefore magic and other godly powers are common. Great wars are fought using avatars, relics, and great powers.

This is of course different to the low fantasy, or sword and sorcery, which is what old world warhammer fantasy was.

But yeah there are plenty of hints spread throughout all the books so far that may point to future armies or releases. The best thing for looking for this stuff, is go to any AoS sourcebook, and find the pages with a bunch of individual text boxes scattered over art that appears to be linking them together. These are little independent story seeds and teasers for things. It is there (i forgot which book) we got the hint of goblin sky pirates (again, it's not confirming anything in particular), and I also remember seeing somewhere about duardin cloud cities, which is likely teasing the Kharadron Overlords. Lately I have been rather interested in any that links to the great Lantic Empires, which were prosperous human kingdoms during the Age of Myth, before chaos nearly wiped out any form of human civilizations. There are other examples I'm sure, but that would be the best place to look out for them.
>>
>>52217346
>Want to explain why you don't think it is anyway like some sort of mythology
Becuase it's more like Marvel "Norse mythology" than actual mythology.
>>
>>52217382
So you're going to nitpick at my statement. Never said It was exactly like norse/greek mythology, I said it gave off a kind of mythology feel.
>>52217372

>>
>>52217421
>I said it gave off a kind of mythology feel.
And that's straight opposite to AoS super-hero setting (come on the idea of humans living outside of Midgard and fucking steampunk fedora"s manlets is already kills all Myths-like feels)
>>
>>52217345
It doesn't. Those are normally hand-drawn, have some artistry to them. These just look like bad Inkarnate maps. It's why the homebrew ones look so decent compared to them.
>>
>>52217474
Don't know why this upsets you so much. Other anons were saying it was like mythic fantasy and what not. It's got multiple realms kinda like norse stuff and has gods directly fighting and interacting with mortals and stuff which gave off a sort of mythic feeling to me.
>>

>has gods directly fighting and interacting with mortals
Not a mythic fantasy exclusive.
Unlike myths AoS have no signs of folklore in writting, coherent aesthetics much closer to comics magitech (Thor as most popular example, or Warcraft, or Darksiders) the same with small unifided snti-Chaos pantheon of incarnates (who doesnt looks like actual gods, thanks to GW writting quality) without neutral forces.

Very stupid and clumsy, but since HE doesn't fit any other faction, so Ulthuan remnants (aka
Twilight phoenixes)
Ten ships, who left Ulthuan after ET:Khaine, durring destruction of Old World was caught by
Hysh when Malekith lost it and were driven into unknown lands (fulfilling the last joke of
Loec).
They returned in MR century before the end of Age of Chaos, with "space" dragonships and
large knowledges about Warp and daemons.
Saved one of the last aelves kingdom outside Azyr and helped refugees to establish new
one on the archipelago in crossrealm ocean between Realms of Light and Life.
In new kingdom they took role of teachers and guardians.
In the rest Mortal Realms they actively seeks any kind of knowledge especially about gods
(like "how prevernt aelves souls from going to Nagash after their deaths").
Small part of them deployed in Realm of Shadows where they using captured Slann's ship
as research lab.
There is also few details, but I suck in fanfiction.
>>
>>52216341
Also, lul. Just doing the math. Using British Legion cavalry mounted on Chaos Knight horses along with some Marauder shields ends up giving me a unit of six Daemonsteed Knights for $38.5 instead of $109 for the chickens. That, combined with the fact that I can get my entire State Troop Detachment inside of one British Brigade deal and a bitz purchase of Marauder shields for $78, has me very happy. My Outriders will end up being $3-4 more expensive until I hit 15 total, when it reverses and is $5 cheaper. Can't argue with those prices making playing Chaos-aligned Redcoats a comically cheap purchase.

Which will be handy, since while my Cannons will be $14 cheaper than the dorf-crewed one, the still theoretical fusion of a Steam Tank and a Maulerfiend/Forgefiend kit will be a bit pricy and probably pretty involved.

When you pile in you can move up to 3" but it has to be toward the nearest enemy model
I've watched battle reports where the players take this to mean you can take a model already in base-to-base contact with an enemy and circle around them, ending in base-to-base contact on the opposite side. This allows models from the rear of their units to move up closer and contribute.
Is this legit, or is it some powergaming trick?

What do you guys think of this Bloodbound/StD list? Thinking of going to participate a local minitournament with it. After couple of test runs with KBB I found out that slow melee lists are.. just bad. So I thought this negates most the problems KBB has.

I know that this list is very charge heavy. Main tactic is trying to get Skulltake formation to middle of the board to contest objetives and Brass stampede going either flank with Knights+valkia the other.

While the Maulerfiend was always going to be comically too large and just cannibalized for parts, I see that the Steam Tank and the Juggernaut are both given the same round base size. I'd never actually seen what a riderless other than the Herald of Khorne model, but now I think that back would be perfect for some kitbashing on mounted weaponry from the Daemon Engine kit. Yeah but everyone and their mother has thought of that, hence the lack of bits.

I don't mind if they do become transports. It would be a good mechanic for the dwarves to get their things in range or around the map, since their move is slow low. As long as Ironclads are appropriately costed then it's fine.

It could be a good risk/reward thing too. Do you keep your men in the ship to try make the objective, but risk being shot down and a good chunk of your unit dying? Or do you disembark now and use your Ironclad to distract and harass the enemy, but get places slower?
>>

We've not heard about Gelt at all in AoS.

Welcome to the wargaming equivalent of american football's bloodiest matches. It's fast, it's straightforward and damage flings and piles up fast as hell, though ultimately the goal is the key. It's rewarding and exciting and you can finish 2k games under two hours.

That's because Sigmar apparently didn't find Gelt. Why would an Incarnate just completely disappear? It makes no sense.
>>

This, even though Mannlet stabbed him, being the incarnation of Chamon leads me to believe that his soul and Chamon magic are one in the same, so it's very believable that Aether-Gold is Gelt's essence

hi, i came back to the hobby a few days ago with some shiny new models and i got some questions.

When i look at the wood elve book that GW has for download there are alot more units in there then they sell. and when reading up on it on 1d4chan they have a 1.1 version of the faction that only has the units from the shop. i guess what iam asking is, where can i find the current rules for aos since the ones on the GW website seem out of date
>>
>>52225204
Wood elfs and dryads used to be one army. The wood elf rules have all the old models, including dryads which are now labelled under the Sylvaneth faction.
>>
>>52224199
>>52224333
Eh, not as if the rules say you have to paint them in those colours. The only real rule is to have the formation.

It's kind of like the Space Marine chapter tactics rules.
>>
>>52225291
but they are missing many more units. war dancers, orion, elves on dragons. they are all gone too. wich is the current rulesset? woodelves book or generals handbook
>>
>>52225468
Yep
>>
>>52225468
Generals Handbook doesn't have any model rules. Only points. It does have points for all the discontinued models however, they are just in the "Compendium" section, under Wood Elves instead of "Wanderers".

All the models not on the shop have been discontinued, but they are still legal to use in game.

Freeguild are perfectly competitive. It's what I'll be going in with when I make >>52216341 a reality instead of just a hypothetical. However, I'd suspect we'll never get a battletome. More likely than not, the old Empire stuff will go the way of the Bretonnians and Tomb Kings, just more slowly. There will end up being a few new human factions instead of just a third of the old Empire line in each of the three, both with completely different aesthetics from what came before just as the Overlords and Fyreslayers are nice excuses to get Dwarf players to buy new armies if they want to stay relevant. RIP Dispossessed.

>>52225869
Flesh-Eaters make up a decent chunk of Vampire Counts and they have a pretty good battletome. Using it as a core, you can dip into other areas of Death very easily.

To be honest though, a lot of armies don't need battletomes. All units from Warhammer have rules and most factions have at least some element of synergy. You can actually build an effective army out of nothing by spider grots, a faction that has a total of three units but has some surprisingly decent synergy, tactical depth and most bases covered (magic, mortal wounds, shooting, speed, behemoth).
>>
>>52226256
Pretty obvious it's small scale format like KillTeam or Nucromunda (which looks more like KillTeam with less variety)
>>
>>52226292

>>
>>52226339
The synergy is still there (which is a fun part of the game for many), but yeah, I don't think power creep can ever be eradicated with GW's style of releases.
>>

>still no skelly army
>still no vampire army
>still no tomb kings

>>52226360
Wraiths, skeletons, wights, undead/vampire knights and shit like that. I know its sort of playable now but I want an official release supporting that part or aspect of death before I buy anything.
