First (or second/third/fourth, it took a while to write the rest of this post) for Johnny-related shitposting.

Going to work on some BA Tacticals next. I already have 70, so all these guys will just be used to shore up some holes in my arsenal. 4 Grav Cannons, 1 Heavy Flamer, 1 of the Calth Missile Launchers, 1 of the Calth Heavy Bolters, and then 2 Meltagunners with Jump Packs. This should bring up to 4 of each (sans the Missile Launchers and the Heavy Bolters of which I'll have 8 each). I have two more sets of legs (I traded a chest piece to a friend for a set of legs), but I'm not sure what to do with them. I already have all the HQs I think I could want right now.
Any ideas what to do with them? I got a spare banner from a Command Squad and a full set of Chapter Champion bitz, but I'm not sure if I'm willing to commit to making models I'm never going to run. I do have two Eviserators in the bitz box as well. Can they be proxied for anything cool?

Update from last night. Left is official scheme, middle is with the glaze, right is the one i started with last night. Im more unsure than before, fuck. which one do i go with. Obviously no wash or details. very much in progress
>>
>>51941201

Middle by far. Right is basically disposable at this point and is just a way for you to get to the middle. If you STILL want the modern dark green Salamanders, go left.

Middle is more old school Salamanders and will look better on the table. The brighter neon green just looks more Salamander and flame and melta than the generic reptile green.
>>
>>51941201
As the guy who suggested the glaze, I wanna say the middle is by far the best, the green there has the best interaction with the other colors on the mini and will give you a really awesome army.
Also, as the one who suggested the glaze, I also suggest you name one of your marines after me.

As per the update in Angel's Blade, even we Blood Angels can have them now! Not a bad thing to be combining with Furious Charge.

Either way works. I wash resin first because I don't like having a bunch of silicon grease on my hands and tools. You might even slip and stab yourself. Resin dust will also gunk up and stick to the oil.

>mfw all the "HUR DUR RECASTS ARE FLAWLESS DIAMONDS BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL AND REQUIRE NO CLEANUP" faggots on /tg/
>>
>>51942193

I don't thin my washes because I am lazy but both ways work. If you don't thin it, it's really dark and if you're not careful it can run or pool. If you thin it, you can do much lighter shadows and work with it more easily, especially since any touches that go where you don't want it will be much more see through due to being thin. But if you thin it with water you might get areas that dry white or other small problems.

I can run the Eviserators as Eviserators, yes, though I feel it's kind of a waste since BA Assault Squads can take Meltaguns. It just seems like the poorer choice given that you can take 2 Meltaguns in a 5 man squad and a Meltabomb on the Sergeant for the same price as a single Eviserator.

Might be fun to run them anyway footslogging around the board with Gabriel Seth in the "Compensation" Squad. Might magnetize the arms on the Meltagun guys so I can run them as Eviserators too. Hmm, options options. Sucks you can only buy Eviserators in the Assault Squad. Them on Van Vets, Command Squads, and most of the HQs would be neat.

Can anyone here attest to the quality of these particular bits from Anvil Industries? I need 20 shield arms for a full TS breacher squad in the near future and at least 55 for a future IF shield-centric army.

Not too bad. Could be worse.

Paint looks a little thick, most notably around the yellow area.

You have a mold line at the red

And idk if blue was intentional, but you got some white on the boot there.

In regards to the yellow area, is there any way to pull some paint away from the green glob while refraining from stripping(or at least as little as possible of) the surrounding area?

Also i hadn't even thought to remove the seam line, i guess i could sand it off?

And yeah the foot among other things just isn't finished yet, considering adding dirt over the bottom of the legs once they're all done
>>
>>51942922

The claw was ebay, but I have some stuff from MI on the way. Mostly weapon bits. If I like it, I'll order some bigger stuff. Maybe a NL contemptor body or even Batman.
>>
>>51942940

>In regards to the yellow area, is there any way to pull some paint away from the green glob while refraining from stripping(or at least as little as possible of) the surrounding area?
Maybe try scraping it off. Or, just save it as an example so you know what to avoid? Then one day when you're a master painter, you can look back and see how far you've gone.

>Also i hadn't even thought to remove the seam line, i guess i could sand it off?
Most things you can just use a hobby knife and scrape it off. Hell, you can usually use the dull side to do it. Just be careful.
>>
Even the best acrylic spray primers will scratch off clean and well primed resin minis right? I just need to stop scratching my resin with a fingernail like a retard right?

Sometimes a poorly washed figure or a weak spot will have paint rub off after I'm done so I've taken to testing the durability of primer on resin now but it just scratches off real easy.
>>
>>51943028
Thanks, i'll try and scrape the paint out of there with a sewing needle or something. I should definitely get a hobby knife too

I had an idea but am stumped on how to execute, the idea for my necron destroyers, they could be large airborne sphinxes, but I can't find any mechanical sphinx models, what would you recommend on this concept's execution?
>>
>>51943624

That is a retarded idea UNLESS the Sphinxes all fly around in their Egyptian statue lying down pose and shoot lasers from their eyes and mouths.
>>
>>51943640
well they will now!, save the destroyer lord, she was going to be more of a centaur like build as an homage to the old necrosphinx
>>
What grade sandpaper should I use on models? Does it matter for plastic/resin?
>>
>>51943662

I bet you could get cool robo-lion or centaur legs from games like Dark Age, Warmachines Convergence of Cyriss faction, or Infinity, but the Egyptian headdress in robo form is the hard part.
>>
>>51943674

I use skinny sanding sticks and they are SO FUCKING USEFUL. Way better than files (though you still need the sharp file for the thinnest areas).

The type I use is 240 grit on one side which isn't too rough but quickly removes sprue nubs and stubborn mold lines, then the other side you flip over and it has 1200 grit which is soft and polishes. So around those grits should be good.

I bought a sheet of 2000 grit sandpaper and it basically does nothing because it's too smooth.

Mostly scratchbuilt. The base is a square of chipboard from a thrift-store clipboard I bought. Walls are mainly foamboard, with chunks of styrene, cardboard, and corrugated coffee-cup sleeves for the chunkity chunks. Decorated with discarded Imperial Guard bits from previous looted vehicles, and some styrene I-beams and tubes.

Help me decide whether to decapitate my watch master. He's made a nice name for himself on the table, but I'm just not happy with his face. I'd tried to paint actual eyes and ended up caking the whole face up. After emergency plastic surgery using, among other things, a toothpick to scrape out gunk, this was the best I could salvage.

Besides Agrellan Earth, what should I look at for a cracked earth effect for basing? I want to make my guys look like they are in badlands.

Getting a sharper brush might help with those highlights. Or going back with the darker blue and sharpening up the highlights manually by repainting over them until only a little bit is left.

Playing any particular faction is not an excuse for being a sloppy painter.

"Muh (Guard, nids, necrons, etc, etc.)" is not an excuse for shitty, lazily done infantry.

Today I picked up a book since I'm totally getting into that traditionally WHITE MALE hobby of wargaming. It needs more feminism and OMG am I the girl to make that happen! Down with the patriachy! Down with gender roles! Be a feminism or you're literally Hitler!

While reading the first tutorial I found something so problematic I had to eat 2 cheese cakes just to calm myself down! Here is evidence that rape culture is alive and well in wargaming! This model has it's crotch drilled out so they can shovel metal into it! OMG It reminds me of the time my rapist bought me a coffee and then wouldn't take no for an answer when I told him I wouldn't hold his hand. OMG I was so triggered! I almost fainted from the panic attack.

This book has lots of titties and even a quick flick through gave me some great ideas. Called The Rise of Fantasy and is about diorama building. If any one has any requests from it I'll take a photo of the page for you.

Dunno if the smoke effect works as nicely. Do you have any other ideas of how to do it? I always wondered about experimenting with things like making casts of sprayfoam and then making resin clouds. Then you can airbrush a smoky effect onto the result. Idk.

I use the smoke on the four harlequins to hide the crappy sprue bits my idiot past self didn't remove before I started painting them (started painting these four two years ago, on and off like.) As for Mistweaver, I hate the look of her plastic mist, so I experimented with cotton. I'm not satisfied with it but I like it more than the solid "mist" she has. That said it is only after finishing Mistweaver did I realize I should've painted the mist as water and make her into a water bender or something.

Use Tamiya clear red in a spray can version. You'll need a pot of paint for touch ups though.

Or alternatively do a super bright gold, wash the cracks only, then use red glaze, then use gloss varnish.

>I painted the metal parts, the eyes, and wheathered most of it in about an hour
>Apart from that, I spent half an hour removing mold lines, partial assembling and pinning to holders
>another hour to prime and basecoat main body, shoulders and gun separately, and apply basic zenithal highlight with my airbrush
>then 20 minutes to clean the airbrush and finish the assembly
>then I did a basic basing, just sand and a single tuft, in about 15 minutes
>and that's not counting the final extra hour I'll need to finish weathering it and apply decals

Buy some agrax earthshade, put it all over the model, then repaint the area where the shade has not settled (so don't paint the recess)

For your base, you should base it before putting the model on. If you don't have modelism sand, GW made some neat texture paints. Get the yellow or brown one, put it on the base, wait for it to dry, drybrush it with your bone color, then shade it with agrax earthshade

Also, you should make his tongue red instead of green

I suppose the only criticism I have is that the wash/glaze method sort of required pre-shading or zenithal priming because you can't layer up for your highlights. Do you have an airbrush? Not him, but I've decided not to wash my marines with shades and have instead gone with "blacklining" the recesses and armor gaps with a dark color heavily thinned with Matt Medium and Glaze Medium. So I guess this is still effectively recess washing in a way?

Looks good bro, digging the color scheme.
Did you use hardcoat for the tongue and carapace? or is that shine just because of the camera? maybe the joints could use some wash to darken them up and create more contrast on him, also a light drybrush or edge highlighting with a lighter white would look cool

Not a fan, it could look better if you eliminated all the doubled up parts that reinforce the fact that you're looking at two rhino's glued together, like the four hatches ontop(can you imagine how silly this would look with four space marines hanging out the top) the blades could use some work to make it look like one piece or you could replace them with a huge dozer blade from another tank.

Do I have to give my Sargent the banner, or can I leave him without it?

Would it be wrong for another marine to carry it instead, or perhaps mount it on the Rhino?
>>
>>51956816
It makes him easily identifiable in a large mass of troops, but unless it has a role rules-wise you can model it however you'd like and on whoever you want.

>>

no. It's up to you. The squad doesn't need a banner at all.
>Would it be wrong for another marine to carry it instead
According to the strictest translation of the Codex Astartes, yes. But, tons of chapters have stopped following the Good Book at this point, so it's up to you.
>mount it on the rhino
I don't see why not.

So does his pistol/chainsword (assuming he's a Tac)
and his different colored helmet (assuming Codex-adherent chapter)

How do I fix the little seam between the halves of these backpacks?

I tried greenstuff but I can't seem to roll it thin enough to fill the gap without just smushing it over everything.
>>
>>51957243
Superglue (they don't call it Zap-a-Gap for nothing), then use decently fine sandpaper to smooth it out.
>>
>>51957282
I'm guessing it needs to be thin glue?

I only have the thick stuff right now so I guess I'll pick it up tomorrow.
>>
>>51957349
I only have experience with the medium Zap-a-gap. No idea if thick is too thick or thin is too thin, but I know medium works
>>
>>51957243
>>51957349
I usually mix up some green stuff and slide it nicely into the gaps, then sandpaper whatever sticks out beyond.
>>
>>51957438
To fill the gaps in his photo, he'd have to get the greenstuff down to like 3 cunthairs thin.
>>
>>51957485
I'd give it more like 1.5 cunthairs, or 1 from a particularly hairy race.

6mm by 2mm neodymium magnets from ebay.

So today, this Looted wagon managed to kill 4 grots that were part of a mek gun crew, a trukk, and 5 tankbustas.
And none of the enemy.
I figured it has some voodoo ghost curse on it so I'm gonna repaint and rebuild it.
If I add/remoce some bits and put plasticard would it be already to prime right over? It's not thick and I didn't use texture paint it seems.

I feel kinda sad about it, one of my first conversions and a kit I built a painted a long time ago. The colours just doesn't fit with my army anymore

Working on some conversions to make my own Inquisitorial Crusaders. They came out better than expected. I'm just waiting on some heads I've ordered.
>>
>>51959085
Ok, so my plan is:
>Remove the entire back plate because it looks like ass and replace it
>replace the turret hatches
>Remove the poor glyph on the left side door
>Clean moldlines and glue residue
>add a reinforced ram
>"remake" the gunner, new body and arms but same old head in the hatch
>add big shoota in the hull
>fix turret holding hatch
Sound good? I keep the original charm and aesthetic but just improve it

I'm using these heads for the rest of the retinue. The Inquisitor is a former Canoness that has some maaajor problems after her squad of sisters died to my brother's Hive Tyrant, thus she uses an all-female retinue as a sort of stand-in out of guilt.

However, I feel as though these heads may not fit too well with the armor of the Crusaders.

4chan strips the metadata off pictures, that gets rid of orientation, replication, filenames, and any extra information the file might contain, which means pictures reset to the default orientation from the source camera.

That is why we suggest resizing and rotating your pictures, that way the new default orientation is saved and you don't have to deal with 28mm models covering your whole screen.

I'm painting my Stormlord here and the fuel Barrels on the back (number highlighted) need painting.

what colour would work well, I was thinking Red but thought that would contrast too much, maybe thinking Black, or keeping it the main tank colour?

Massive Voodoo also have a huge number of weathering references, references really help to avoid a rusted look that looks unnatural.

Red, green or blue would work, you just need to work whatever you do choose into the rest of the tank: say red, and then you would add some red cables, make the smoke launchers red, maybe red heavy bolter casings etc. etc.
