Abhuman citizenship evaluations aren't usually very romantic affairs so was very surprised when one of them approached me after work on a social call. It went against all the regulations but I joined her as I felt there was more behind the subspecies' higher crime rates than met the eye. After a few drinks (boy can they drink) I let slip that the board were prepared to to condemn the "yan" to exile. In light of this well adjusted specimen I was disagreed with this decision. so together we hatched a plan to prove that both subspecies could coexist.

As I proposed the test I was chosen to carry it out. It is our fourth month of cohabitation and things are not going according to plan. My partner is clearly willing to change but I am often out argued unless given time to think and worse somehow her family and friends have smuggled themselves into the country and are trying to help in their own, manic, ways. I'm also pretty sure that her belly is rounder than it used to be and it seems that the board knows too as we now have an order to explore "inter populace fertility".

Seconding the big three missing: avant garde metal (Arcturus), death metal (Demilich), and thrash metal (Vektor, Megadeth).

It would be nice to see references to the musical titans that were Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath, perhaps as a universal Heavy Metal tree anyone can purchase abilities from. Allows for more variety of builds, too.

I was always shocked with that CYOA forcing me to pick some weird sub-genre and not the original stuff.

>>
>>51896322
can you post it please, would like to save and forgot to do it last time, thanks in advance
>>
>>51896314
It's arguably bigger than the big three, hence why I suggested it be a universal school anyone can buy from. Because obviously the collective greatness of Iron Maiden/Black Sabbath/Judas Priest/Mercyful Fate are too powerful.
>>
>>51896358
That'd still force me to pick a sub-genre though, and as someone who is just a classic rock fan (and thus only really likes metal where the two intersect, in classic metal), most of them don't do anything for me.
>>
>>51896436
Good point, didn't think of that. I wouldn't want heavy metal to simply be a plain genre to choose because of how important it is to the history of metal. Maybe not picking a sub-genre grants something extra, like points/item/companion?

No telling why someone as beautiful, smart and talented wouldn't have any friends or why she would pick me of all people. Might be because she's too different and intimidating to others, who the fuck knows. She follows me around and has a tendency to demand sex whenever she feels like it, which is often, but she doesn't actually hurt anyone and somehow manages to avoid getting into or causing any real trouble, so I guess it'll be alright. Her family would be scary as hell if they weren't so damn nice

Everyone knew something wasn't quite right with her from a young age. But what could they do about it? She was the Princess' favorite cousin! They played together as children! Why not just stick her on a populated, but out of the way planet and forget about it? 15 Years later the population of the world of Temnaya Ten' and it's moon live deep in underground cities. Under Marquise Valeria Procula's iron fist, the whole society has been practically enslaved and is devoted to mining and building The Marquise's personal army, including one of the largest ships ever built and exhausting her planet's resources. The force may be impractical, but is truly terrifying to behold. Her obsession, strange as it may be, has at least led to the disappearance of pirates in the sector. Now that Princess Theia's grown and is looking for allies in her quest to become Empress, her estranged former playmate may yet be an even greater service to the galaxy.....

Banana split, no contest. You can basically use it to gain any 3 objects you want for free, and replace it whenever it stops being needed or becomes outdated (e.g. expensive hardware and stuff like that).

Does a PC count as one object or would I have to copy a specific part like the GPU? Either way, really good ability all around, whereas the rest is awfully specific in its use (e.g. what good is phasing through walls in everyday scenarios if you can't carry any objects other than clothes with you? You'd have to walk around without wallet or phone if you want any use out of it).

Although the Herbal Tea is good as well, I guess, situations where you need more time to think are pretty common.

I have to wake up early in morning for work all the time so I sometimes wake up early on weekends even if I don't want to cuz I'm just used to it or whatever. And if I don't have anywhere to be and am not to busy then I do check cyoa thread pretty regular even if it's early or late. But if people are going to make big deal about it and pick on me for it then maybe I just won't post older builds anymore!

In retrospect, it is waaaay to similar to fleshweavers really. Might try something new if I come up with an idea.

If I make a fetish CYOA where you/your waifu is affected (think along the lines of the femdom cyoa), do I really need to waste half a page on building the waifu? I was thinking that the intro would basically be "now that you have your waifu (from another cyoa), maybe you want to change her a bit?"
Or something. I can't see a reason to add build-your-waifu when all CYOA that do it have the same options. Just one of them, not like I'd write anything else.
>>51898609

I see that the Forever option still results in being trapped, with no way out, within a cycle of death and rebirth; unable to even shed the memories of your past lives and experience things anew, dooming you to eventually become first insane and destructive (to yourself and others) and then so jaded, disillusioned and downright bored with life itself that you'd find yourself existing in a near catatonic state, barely alive but, on some level, always torturously aware.

Yeah, I'll pass.
>>
>>51899017
>Then don't use squares, bro.

>Is it not enough to refer to a waifu-builder?
I don't think referring people to an entirely different CYOA, especially one you didn't make, just to play this one is a good idea. You yourself might find the options found in every CYOA about waifus redundant and easily replaced due to people largely creating the same person when the options are present, but for some people that's kind of the whole thing, else they wouldn't go through the CYOA.

But hey, I'm not part of the group of people I'm referring to, nor am I likely part of the audience you're aiming for with your CYOA, so I could very well be off base here.

Objects: Runic Pen, Powershot (Healing Waters)
Weird Points: 8
Even if Living Factory doesn't provide immortality explicitly, with Limits Broken I should be able to build up to it - I age all the time, so I've got plenty of practice surviving it, right?
The Powershot will be provided to someone young, idealistic, and willing to become ridiculously famous for a good cause. I don't need to be the one who spends their life making healing water.

I worked for two hours on my project and managed a whole 2 options. Not because there's much writing or work finding images, but because there's no many images I need to move around and copy-paste. It's draining my motivation rapidly, to use more time and energy on tiny things than the actual options.
Definitely a lesson learned.

I'm kinda in the mood to write a small lewd one. They're always fun to do and there's not much planning required. I even already have the idea, but I don't have an idea for a point system. What I was thinking is you invest points in a primary fetish, and for each point spent in it you can unlock a sub-fetish. I kinda want something else to give you an insentive to spend more points in the same fetish.

>We're talking about the pictures, anon.
So you are judging it on form and not function! If that's the case, then why did you bring up taste previously?

And I say squishing the images isn't that big of a deal, since only one maybe two pictures look affected by this, and only one I can see looks negatively affected.

The difficulty is I want the theme to be "changing the world based on fetishes". But there's so many ways this can be done, too, and I would also like the player to get options that affect themselves.
Like, say, the femdom branch where women are CEO's and politicians, I would also like an option for anon to get a girlfriend who fits that bill. I think this system might be overly ambitious for something I would like to do in one night.

He just said the heat death of the universe happened, but that doesn't mean complex enough phenomena to create sapient creatures can't be around at that point. They'd just have to work on different principles.

In fact, it's possible that what we're living in right now would have been viewed as long after the heat death of the universe to creatures which lived in the absurdly short split second after the big bang. And maybe long after we and matter as we know it are gone from the universe, someone will be thinking of our epoch of time as an absurdly short split second after the universe came into being.

The mechanics of the cyoa are unique. I am trying to put my own artistic skills in there rather than just pasting a bunch of images into it and calling it my own. I am attempting to utilize otherwise unused space to a greater potential without overcrowding it. And I am bettering my own artistic skills while at it.

The arguments were already given many times over by me and someone else in this thread. Image squishing: just don't. It's that simple. It always looks like complete ass. There's no way around it. Why do you think you almost never see it even in the lowest quality unprofessional work? Because it looks like ass to almost everyone.

No, you absolutely don't. It is the goal of a creator to please its audience, even in the most likely event of none of them being filmmakers/musicians/chefs, and the audience's job to have an opinion, even when it is not flattering to its creator.
Unless you're saying you have no opinion on anything you're not an expert at (in which case you're lying), you are a hypocrite who learned this ridiculous excuse for a criticism deflector at an early age and have never bothered to think it through.
>>
>>51900170

Here's a text cyoa that's better than yours and it's taken me all of 30 seconds to create:

"A magical wizard suddenly appears in your house and presents you with 3 choices, choose now and he will leave you alone forever after:

1. Get punched in the dick
2. Get punched in the stomach
3. Get punched in the face"

Is it garbage? Yes. Do all of the options suck? Yes. Will any of them ruin your life? Nope! Therefore it's already miles ahead of your crapfest you call a cyoa.
>>
>>51900208
This is not valid reasoning in a context where everyone is, or can easily be, a creator.

It's like going to a rock throwing competition and talking shit, then backing down when someone tells you to throw a rock farther than they did.

Nothing's stopping you from picking up that camera and being a film director, then.

While being a CYOA author isn't inherently hard, it still takes some level of competence. There is work effort involved and not everyone has time or willpower to invest into it.
>>
>>51900242

Exactly. And being incompetent means you have no room to criticize people who are better than you are.
>>
>>51900280
Saying "deal with it" does not make you right when you are throwing a tantrum against logic that hurts your feelings. That anon didn't say he could make good CYOAs. He said one is shit, and he is entitled to his opinion. Asking him to "make a better one" would only be an appropriate response if he had implied he could. Then it'd be hypocritical of him not to.
"That movie is shit" is fundamentally different from "I can make a better movie than this".

>>
>>51900325

Yeah, you do. You are the audience. It is your job/right to criticize anything that's ever made.
You can pick up a pen and write a book, why don't you? That doesn't mean you can't criticize books and authors.
This is such basic logic anyone arguing against it simply has, as I said before, adopted it as a criticism deflector as a kid and is firmly holding onto it to this day. Fear of criticism is not healthy for you, anon.

They do in a novelists forum if they don't want to be laughed out. I mean, I'm not actually making this up either, go try exactly this example for real.

>No. It just really is that simple to understand
You were the one talking about lack of logic. "Everyone knows this!" is not a valid argument, it's a fallacy, no matter how simple. Now either articulate your thoughts or concede that you can't via either admission or silence on the topic. You have no other choice.

This isn't a CYOA maker thread. This is a CYOA thread. There's usually two or three of them around and everyone else is people who have never and might never make a CYOA. Their feedback is what keeps these threads going, and their opinion is the one authors care about.
"Everyone knows this" was not my argument. My argument was everything else I said. You are not a hypocrite for criticizing something you can't make as long as you don't say you can make something better. Nobody's audience consists entirely of other authors and it's every author's job to try and resonate with their audience. These are all concrete facts which you couldn't disprove and chose to ignore as you latched on to the one thing you could actually argue against (the "Everyone knows this" thing being a fallacy, although by itself, thinking it makes me wrong is a fallacy fallacy).

>If he doesn't live up to the challenge, the answer will be "I can't make a CYOA", not "I can't criticize them".
That's good? I know he's talking out of his ass, so I got the answer I wanted.

>This isn't a CYOA maker thread.
Yes it is.

>This is a CYOA thread.
Same thing. Anyone can make a CYOA very easily.

>There's usually two or three of them around and everyone else is people who have never and might never make a CYOA.
Empirically wrong, we put this to the polls many times and the ratio of creator to leech was always about 1:2. So that means in this thread there should be about 25 people who have made a CYOA in the past.

>My argument was everything else I said.
You didn't say anything else on that particular subtopic.

>You are not a hypocrite for criticizing something you can't make as long as you don't say you can make something better.
Yes you are. Calling it shit is insulting and not constructive feedback, so there are no rules of common decency protecting you in turn either.

>it's every author's job to try and resonate with their audience.
Not true at all, unless they're being paid. Which the authors here aren't.

>These are all concrete facts
That's nice. Except whatever it was that was a big deal to you is something you're still deflecting. I'm actually half curious what it might be now. Not like you'll tell me though, you'd rather just concede that you're full of shit I see.

>the "Everyone knows this" thing being a fallacy, although by itself, thinking it makes me wrong is a fallacy fallacy
I didn't say it makes you wrong, I said that you weren't presenting a valid argument. Which makes you a hypocrite after whining about me not presenting logic.

There was no reason for them to lie back then. And the consistency across different polls speaks for itself.

Doesn't mesh with the fact that the number of replies was pretty similar to the number of posters at the time.

>Also did you get that name from a book?
No, though there is a film but that's about crime. If there were any inspiration I could cite I'd say it was the "Made in Abyss" manga that I read a few weeks back and can't get out of my head, it's all in japanese though but the general plot is basically horrific adventures paired alongside cute things.

I've also been thinking of making it in portions per layer of the abyss. That is to say every individual layer of the abyss would be it's own CYOA tied together by the fact that you're going through them in order. And also so that if you don't want to go through the entire abyss you can just choose when to quit and avoid the horrific monsters waiting for you in the next layer.

>>51901492

I go by many names and feel no particular attachment to any of them. I just finished "The Village" CYOA yesterday or the day before that. I've been here since december of 2016 as a CYOA author and a long time lurker. At this point I think I've made thirteen or so CYOAs.

Ring is a ring, sphere is a sphere. They are both roughly the same radius.

Not really sure what they are exactly in the CYOA's terms. The CYOA says they support billions of people. A dyson sphere built at 1AU (earth orbit), would support about 10 to 20 quintillion people at earths surface population density.
>>
>>51901716
I was just wondering why one costs 175 and the other 300, if there are no differences.
>>
>>51901851
Sphere is much, MUCH bigger. It's the difference between having just the earth's equator, and having the entire surface of the earth, except expanded to a stellar scale.
>>
>>51900598
what happens in paradox anyway
>>
>>51901716
well you see one is a ring (ie a thin...ish...strip that goes in a circle.

The other is a fully enclosed ball.

One has alot more surface area then the other
>>
>>51901576
A Ringworld is a band of material surrounding a star, designed as a single continuous structure. Humans live on the inside surface of the ring, which has been terraformed to resemble Earth, but with massively larger proportions east-west than north-south. Gravity is provided by spinning the ring, at the scale of it centripedal forces are indistinguishable from true gravity to human senses. This, together with thousand kilometer-high walls at the edges, serves to keep in the atmosphere. Day and night are provided by enormous orbiting sunshades that revolve at a different rate than the ring itself, causing huge shadows to cast over areas on a twelve hour cycle.

A Dyson Sphere is a loose sphere of orbiting satellites surrounding a star, whose total occultation is enough to completely block out the star to outside observers. The intent is to harness every last bit of energy from the star, for maximum efficiency. Each satellite can be an independent space colony in its own right, allowing for massive amounts of living space, even more than the Ringworld provides. Dyson Spheres are also theoretically much easier to build than Ringworlds, as the non-continuous structure means that the stresses involved are much lower, but they require much more material to build.

A Dyson Disc is a vanity project. It's not as practical as the other designs. Cool, though. What you do is you make a structure looking a lot like an optical storage disc. You build it so large that a sun can fit in the hole in the middle. Now you put some hyper-massive material in the centermost layer of the disc, so that it has a strong enough gravity field to pull people to the surface of it. Now people can live on the surface of the disc, in a world of perpetual twilight, where the sun never leaves the horizon. Very inefficient in terms of both resources and ease of construction, but looks cool.

The only good choices in this are the luck or minor mystery boxes, or the power or immortality ones if you're into that. It's a horrible idea to actually rank the wishes.
>>
>>51902007
Oh, and I should add that Dyson Discs are more properly called Alderson Discs, after the guy who came up with them. They're called Dyson Discs sometimes as comparison to the Dyson Sphere, but it's inaccurate.

Anyways, to summarize:

>Ringworld: Huge amounts of living space, difficult to construct

>Dyson Sphere: Even huger amounts of living space, tons of energy harvested, easier to construct, but materials cost makes up for that

>Dyson/Alderson Disc: Amount of living space in between Ringworld and Dyson Sphere, very expensive to build from both materials and construction standpoint, looks fucking sweet, though.

What's the point of propulsion for the megastructure? If you build a dyson sphere around a star, wouldn't you also need to move the star itself?
>>
>>51902074
Maybe it's meant to carry it with it? A Dyson Sphere could rearrange itself into a Shkadov thruster without too much issue. Or if it's a Ringworld, Larry Niven did propose a mechanism by which the rotating ring could induce an electromagnetic field to focus the star's plasma and turn it into a giant fusion rocket.
>>
>>51898262
>I just won't post older builds anymore!

>>
>>51902074
Yes, and? Stars aren't special, they are just as easy to move as anything else with the same mass.

>>51902121
I just imagined part of the sphere crashing into the star as the sphere moves towards and away from it. I wonder what it would actually look like.

Immortality

Power

Seems like the only way to go. Love, Luck, and Immortality all help mitigate the effects of power and wealth. Specifically, I should have a lover to provide for me and generally order me around nicely, enough luck to avoid being too seriously taken advantage of, and immunity to any real physical harm that could come my way.
>>
>>51902142
Gravity pulls objects to a center point, the center point of a Dyson Sphere is in the hollow, so as long as it didn't go faster then its own gravity would move the star it wouldn't need anything special to keep the star in place.

>>51902142
The sphere could open up and unfold into a Shkadov thruster. That's kind of like a solar sail, but one so massive that the sun is dragged along with it by a link of gravity. Another way to think of it is that it's like a rocket. Putting the sail on one side bounces the sun's output to only go one direction, so it works like the exhaust stream of a more conventional thruster.
>>
>>51902197
Have another, more fanciful depiction of a Shkadov thruster, probably more suitable for Solar Inheritance.
>>
>>51902007
Trying to figure out what gravity would be like on the disc. I'm not really too knowledgeable about the subject but the entire structure would be INCREDIBLY massive even without the super dense center. I'm wondering if you wouldn't be pulled inward or just crushed.

>>
>>51902261
Well, you shouldn't be pulled in any direction other than down towards the surface unless you go over to the edges of the disc. But the edges of the disc are going to be either too hot or too cold for humans anyway, so you shouldn't be there in the first place. In the "safe zone" in the middle of the disc, the forces pulling you in any given direction should equalize so that it's all downward. It's like having two ropes pulling on you diagonally from two sides. So long as they're on exact opposite sides, it will just pull you down. In the parts of the disc people would live on, local forces should be mostly Earth-like. You would get some slight pull towards the hole in the middle, but I don't think it would be enough to counter friction with the ground, at least at that distance. You probably wouldn't even notice it, it would only be visible on the large scale when you looked at how most of your rivers progress towards the sun. You'd need to have some sort of recycling system in place, I guess, so that water that got too far sunward would be circled back around closer to the rim.
