Also guns on the reavers. Reavers spend 99% of their existence jinking. And personally I would put cluster caltrops instead of grav talons but I've literally never used grav talons so I don't know if they're worth it but caltrops definitely are. Well what do you want to use? There's most definitely some way to make them into a viable list, or even a rather strong one.
It's just that it requires thinking rather than netlisting, like an assault list which uses skyhammer with min devs and kitted out ass marines to engage the heavy hitting shooting units turn one, to allow assault termies the safety to get into combat with out dying.
Most anything from C:SM can be viable, it just requires a well made list and a smart player. So what do you want to use?

So I am listening to the new Eldar audiobook. It's set just after the fall. A Eldar dude describes the humans and say they are psychically dull and physically inept. And also that they possess little society and culture. Okay....I thought humans were on par with Eldar in the physical department.

Except for shooty termies, those aren't bad by any means, and even shooty termies are viable, just not as good as everyone wishes they would be.
That's basically the starters list for a marine army, amd should do fine against most anything but WAAC cheese.
Ultramarines chapter tactics, especially in a gladius strike force or just a battle demicompany, allow for a core of tacs to be quite good, as you get tons of opportunities to reroll to hit.
Dreadnoughts can be kitted out in a variety of ways, and have numerous wonderful variations because of FW. Any FW dreadnought is great since they almost all have invul saves, and even running a boxnaught as a FW contemptor should be fine with most opponents as long as you let them know and don't bring any actual contemptors.
Land speeders make for excellent suicide units: they're fast, they're cheap and they can take 2 multimeltas each. They can also be used for anti hordes with 2 heavy flamers, or anti heavy infantry with an assault canon multimelta combo. Over all they are a versatile unit that, while not to durable, can easily make there points back if used right.
Shooty termies are just not that good, sadly. They can perhaps be used as a distraction carnifex, forcing the enemy to dedicate AP:2 to kill them, keeping other units safe for a turn or being ignored and having the chance to fuck some shit up.
However, a steel rain list might be able to make them work, as you can overwhelm the enemy turn one, perhaps engage the heavy shooters turn one with an assault based skyhammer, and thus allow your termies to survive when they come in.

No matter what, it's not about winning. Even those units can still make a list that will do well against most things, and if someone brings WAAC cheese don't play them

Lads, I just got back from a 1850 game against my buddy's BT using the Castellans of the Imperium detachment shit, that brings troops back on 5+. I lost but by 3 VPs and at the end of turn 6 after bleeding him dry. With Thousand Sons that didn't use any daemons or Magnus (list in pic).

He brought in LRC, 2 razorbacks, trilas pred, vindi, stormtalon, ironclad in pod, 3 MSU crusaders with plasmaguns/cannons, 5 bikers and 1 big blob of crusaders with Coteaz and Emp's Champ.

We got a lengthwise battle so turn 1 charges. I rolled a ton of heretech powers and first turn I charged both maulerfiends which subsequently wrecked the trilas and vindi, DP scrapcoded the LRC to death and I doombolted the Emp's Champ in the face. the rest of the battle was basically DiscSorcs flying out of range of retribution after casting, DP circling the air creating spawn with Baleful Devolution (including Coteaz, the smarmy cunt) and Maulerfiends wrecking vehicles. The Razorbacks both came back, as did the LRC and 2 MSU squads.

Considering I fielded an army with extremely few numbers, flimsy Sorcs with no retinues and units that are considered to be awful AND I fought an extra 600~ points' worth, my performance was amazing. Psychic phase domination is a great feeling (90% of my power is in the psychic phase).

I have a big feeling the first turn really helped and my buddy could've played better, but it was amazing regardless. I need some minor tweaks (better invulns on Sorcs..) but I'll definitely be unshelving my Thousand Sons.

Also don't feel too bad. People have done that kind of stuff to me from time to time. It's hard to keep track of every single army and their formations. I played against a Skitarri guy a few weeks back that forgot his armies rules and made them all T4. That was actually a pretty big deal for me because I had a lot of blob Guard doing FRFSRF and charging into combat. So many more wounds would have counted. I also had a lot of S6 and S7 weapons that would have ID'd those 2 wound close combat dudes. He also made about 6 6+ FNP saves that saved important dudes that he wouldn't have been able to take thanks to the wounds coming from Multi-Lasers. Those kinds of things would have wiped his units off an objective or prevented a charge that tied up my dudes from capturing another objective.

I don't know about WAY too strong. Witchfires in general are pretty shitty, but I could see nerfing it. One thing I do want to preserve would be it adding utility to the unit. What if it was modal between a S:4 AP:3 Blast and a S:9 AP:2 shot? Like a magical missile launcher.

One of the major issues that I have with the Grand Coven/Thousand Sons rules is that they do fuck all for baseline Tzeentch MEQ's. No detachment, bonuses that do nothing for anybody without a psyker, etc. I also dislike how all eight other legions use the same core set of formations just with the addition of some legion specific stuff and maybe an auxiliary moved to core. I don't see any reason for the entire Coven to to be Rubricae-only when the War Cabal already does that.

There's nothing wrong with Space Wolves. They're a fun melee army that doesn't suck and their models are fun to paint. The ugly Wulfen can be fixed by using marine parts.

The roll invuln after failed armor is a little complex and requires actual reading of the rules and I love it. Probably the best thing there, in my opinion.

They are supposed to be both, but in a roundabout way. They get whole squads that all have flamers or all have rocket launchers, but they have weak BS. Volume over accuracy. However, they don't have enough volume so that fails.

Melee is similar. They have tons of attacks and cheap bodies, so even though they are slow, they should be able to still have tons of hits, but that also fails.

In theory it works, but how they set it up on the table doesn't work. They should just have base S4 and some rule where they always get to hit at least 2 attacks even if they die in combat first. I think all their guns could have 1-2 more shots each or to be twin-linked in a lot of cases.
