Reposting this if only because it didn't get a reply in the last thread.
I'm gonna be building a Noble Soul Vigilante using the Crusader specialization. Is it worth trying to pursue a sword and board type character using Shield of Fury and Furious Flurry? Should I just stick to a two handed weapon and Power Attack? From the looks of it I probably don't have enough Vigilante talents to get much done regarding a build, since some of the ones that give Paladin features feel a bit mandatory.

I've only ever skimmed through it, but it has a promise

>Options for alternate ways to run campaign based on different party levels
>Plot is "Headmaster is missing, FIND HIM!"
>The dungeons and plot changes based on which teacher your DM decides kidnapped him (with different reasons and motives for each) and which teacher decides to back you guys up
>Each teacher is insane and wierd in a unique way, from a literal ferret teaching divination, a femenist succubus, a lich who is actively planning world domination, and an adorable motherly yet out of touch with mortals golem. and many more!
>Also acts as the unnoficial SoP Bestiary built right in, with wierd things like pic related.
>Is mostly built around, and with the assumption, that everyone in the party is some kind of Spherecaster

It's shit. It didn't have to be, but it is.
>Mr. Nobody
See above.
>Sirius DC
Why is the monkey not your character?
>Jaedlyn
Get the fuck out.
>T.K.
The way the backstory opens IMMEDIATELY prompts a "no" but I know nothing about the class this is and still find it interesting vis-a-vis being a sky pirate. I'd consider this one if the bio wasn't so boring.
>Dom d
Highly likely to be completely insufferable character(s). It's a fun way to play a gestalt. If I knew the player was good this makes the shortlist.
>Ikiryo
This one is good.
>Conner W.
I don't care.
>CelestialDoggie
Get this guy to play the other guy's monkey.
>Slowcogs
Hey, someone DID make the monkey! This makes the shortlist.
>DawnofHope2012
Dawn of Nope 2017
>The Yellow King
This character should have died when he was pushed overboard. You need like one conventional guy but all of them so far have been boring.
>Wyvernrider
10/10 best concept yet.
>Akodo Rokku
See the twins one. I have to know you can play this without being really irritating + it's unoriginal so only considered if a slot is free.
>Nanashidesu
A boring weird character is much worse than a boring normal one.
>Fragskull
Vaguely interested in the mechanics of dodging sunlight as a sky pirate, but eh. Wouldfuck/10 Wouldprobablynotplaywith/10
>akael
Eat the fucking bullet. This is entirely on the player and not the concept though.
>Scratchyan
Shortlisted.
>Mlems
I'm not mad about it and I hate the specific way these bullet points are written but this one probably fits in most possible groups so far. Might get a slot.
>AlienError
Again 10/10 concept arguably even superior to Wyvernrider's.
>TITAN
WHERE'S THE MEAT?!

How many players does this game need?
>>

>>51667890
I have run the same game for a dozen or so parties over the years. It was born out of being an officer in a college TTRPG club and needing to be able to run a game in my sleep.

It was called The Fall of Otston. Players routed around a trade town on the frontier, working for a practically homeless wizard named Narder Guiles and trying to piece together the strange happenings in the town. I used to have a map with every building having at least a note, but I think it disappeared with the death of my old computer.

It ended up being several different occurrences all pointing to a sort of 'quickening' around the town as unlikely events were pushed forward by fate. A sort of truncation of future misfortunes forced on the town in an 8 month period.

>Free power attack/deadly aim/combat expertise/vital strike

So I'm thinking about running a game. In every LFG DHB asks if he can run his homebrew. Gonna be honest here I normally see wanting your own homebrew as a way to fucking shit on a game. However he doesn't seem all bad.

Should I allow it? Is it decent or garbage?

Should I just make my game ERP so he doesn't apply?

http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/fighter/archetypes/radiance-house---fighter-archetypes/warshade

>Allure of the Night (Su): As a standard action, you can set loose the tantalizing whispers of the spirit bound to your seal of darkness for a number of rounds equal to your binder level. Make a Diplomacy check against all creatures in your threatened area (DC 10 + ½ the creature's hit dice + their Wis modifier); creatures you succeed against become wrought with alluring whispers, urging the creature to attack you. The creature takes a -2 penalty on attack rolls made against creatures other than you and suffers a 10% spell failure chance on spells that do not target you or do not have you within their targeted area. For every 4 binder levels beyond 5 that you possess, the attack roll penalty increases by -1 and the spell failure chance increases by 5%. A creature so affected is aware of this penalty.

But he shapeshifts to a ferret.
He's also COMPLETELY FUCKING USELESS when he's not a ferret.
When he's a ferret, he's an adorable mascot who gives friendly advice.
When he's not a ferret, he's the token guy in an all girl cast who half the writing team tries to pair with the lead, while the other half throw in undertones that she's in a happy lesbian relationship with a reformed villain (now detective), with whom she adopted a child.

Really, the writers should just put him with Hayate. He's a boy nerd and certified straight, she's a girl nerd and somewhat infamously bi, it just works.

You want to drop the free feats because Spheres of Might wants to give you those feats using the Spheres (Berserker for Power Attacking).

Handing those out for free just ruins the playtest.

It kinda plays into the twins and the Jojo meme character. If I'd played with you before and could vet you it's good, but in a vacuum it turns me off. I've never played with you and prob never will, so someone else will have to witch hunt. At least there was effort.

so, im making a short adventure with little to no combat, in where the party breaks into a storage house (kept there for a very short time before butchered) to examine a dead dragon, to find clues as to where it would live so they could track down the now unguarded hoard, and i've gotten a fairly satisfactory start of it, but i don't know really know how to make the "find" more interesting, i was thinking of having it's nest be in the top floor (with the roof broken) of a castle on an small island like in pic related, but with a completely shattered bridge so they can either find some smart way to cross anyway, or make the dangerous climb down, into the water and then scale the wall,

besides some other minor annoyances like rusted shut doors, staircases that break under the PC's weight and generally unsafe footing, what are some other stuff i could cram in that would make use of players skills and roleplay? i would also like to have something of a "middle" of the quest, but i can't come up with anything more interesting that "interview the people the dragon have attacked", any interesting ideas for ways to spin that?

I just found it boring. Look at how many backstories/bios in that thread open with "uh he was attached to airshipping somehow I guess".

Any pitch wants a hook, right? This isn't even specific to character apps. Your hook is your bio - that's the stuff that sparks my interest and makes me want the character in my game. It takes me a while to get to that, and the areas of focus laid out in all the text you've typed focus more on generic details, less on the hook. The magistrate stuff is OK for playing out in-character but I'm not killing myself to have it in the game.

Personally, whenever I write homebrew content, I always wait until someone else plays it first, and then wait to see if they and my group like it or not.

So far its worked pretty well, since one of my mates is using my PoW Swashbuckler in a campaign and is having fun with it.

You could probably do some cute FADC with the abort full attack action. Probably the ability to disengage with a bonus to something during a full attack action after the first shot goes out, at the expense of the rest of your attacks.

Roman Cancel I feel would require PoW, an immediate choice of (prepared/known) Strike on hit with a standard action attack. Or switching up combat maneuvers on hit.

Dust loop I can't help you with, but a straight Dust would be Awesome Blow, but you can send people into the sky. Or into a wall, Dungeoncrasher Fighter style.

>>

>>51668533
OKAY SO.

Rough background: The Marquess of Golden Thorns was formerly a minor lord in the First World (or Albion, which the GM said was basically the equivalent) who basically just did her own thing, grew magic roses that never wilted in the fields surrounding her keep, and generally didn't get in anyone's way.

That's why she was caught completely off guard when she got caught in the machinations of two other fey lords of greater standing. Over something completely stupid and petty (rough idea: each had challenged the other to take a single rose from her), she had her fields and keep burned to the fucking ground, her rank and name stripped from her, and THEN got exiled.

Fey have no sense of proportion.

Her completely logical and reasonable response is to completely reinvent herself, becoming a sort of bogeyman figure that people speak of in hushed whispers - because in the lands of the fey, such tales are power, and she would bring their full might against those who dared take everything from her. She chose being a sky pirate because it was already the sort of position that was semi-legendary (the Marquess of Golden Thorns, terror of the skies, has a greater strength to it than, say, the Marquess of Golden Thorns, terror of chimney sweeps).

Of course, because fey, she's literally recreating herself into this urban legend, and I was thinking there'd be a point where she'd end up confronted by that (after she put the captain's head on a fucking pike for his new act of betrayal, of course).

I couldn't find a way to write the backstory in a way that wasn't dull or needlessly edgy, and I realized while I was trying that the character wasn't really suited for wacky sky pirate hijinks, and that was the way most of the apps seemed to be headed.

Why else do you see Nier as the one wielding the giant shadow fists or pointing the spears, or summoning the shadow clones during the boss-defeat cutscenes?

Weiss is the source of the magic, but Nier is the one actively directing and and controlling it, and is able to do so specifically because he made a pact with Weiss.

That also ignores the piles of natural armor most other monsters get as well as armor/shield, which is a lot of most NPC's best defense. Hitting touch with 1/2 BAB isn't the most difficult thing out there, so it's not completely dead in the water there. As it is, it could probably stand to go to 3/4ths though.

>>51669436
I've said it before, but if I could find enough good city maps, I'd run a thieves game in Sharn with 3rd-5th level NPCs slowly making their way into being crime bosses.

I'm gradually learning roll20 more, so maps are the only real issue here.

>>51669454
The difference between full BAB and 1/2 BAB at 1st and 2nd level is +1, so I don't see what your issue is there. If they go dex, have a 16 while the physical attack has the same attacking stat, it's a 1 point difference in attack. It gets wider at 3rd where it's a 2 point difference, which is why the designer waited to give it touch at 3rd instead of overloading 1st level.

The simple truth is, the magus isn't that especially well designed. It gets its primary class feature in 2 levels, and they can at least be somewhat duplicated with spheres talents.

There is no real reason to design arcana for them, because you can turn almost any one into a feat and let the mageknight and the SoP classes have access to it. The mageknight is basically the replacement for the magus.

False.

No, by the rules someone with Craft (Food) can only make food. Someone with Profession (Baker) is a /professional baker/ and can both bake and answer questions about baking.

>You know how to use the tools of your trade, how to perform the profession's daily tasks, how to supervise helpers, and how to handle common problems.
The daily tasks of a baker are baking. Not only that but it never says "You cannot make items." You are inserting that.

>>
>>51669735
No we have rules saying someone with Profession(Baker) can use their skill to make gold weekly, but not actually produce goods. Knowing how to run this business isn't the same as knowing how to make a good product and vice versa.
>>
>>51669752

- Craft (blacksmithing) to actually make the things a blacksmith makes

It's also heavily implied they're either the cursed remnants of the Azlant or the mysterious winged race that lived alongside the humans and elves of the lost continent, also cursed. The Syrinx (dick-ass owl people) modified some population of the Strix to serve as their slavekeepers and warriors, since they figured winged humanoids > non-winged humanoids, while the rest were basically savages who lived as animals until the Age of Darkness, at which point they figured their ancient duty was over and they settled the mountains in Hellcoast. Critically Strix are basically super insular because their main human exposure was fucking Cheliax (dick-ass devil worshippers), and their main non-human exposure was the Syrinx (dick-ass owls) both of whom were super into enslaving and/or exterminating the Strix. They also don't breed particularly well and have short lives, so they get extremely bitter about lives being taken from them. In fluff they're described as killing dozens of humans in revenge whenever the Cheliax take one of their own.

Basically they're angry flying native americans, with witches and oracles as their main casters. They're neutral, probably because their morality is self-directed and good-aligned deities basically ignore them (but fuck Cheliax and those devilboos).

Their main advantage being that they very rarely die of unnatural causes thanks to being the best natural flyer humanoids on Golarion (their only real predators are humans who hate them and flying megafauna). The Strix fighter racial archetype is built around their strengths and is pretty solid, although it sacrifices Heavy Armor Proficiency and Weapon Training.

>>
>>51669805
Bro, just trying to help. Don't get hostile.
>>
>>51669792
In pathfinder the most believable origin story of creation for mortals and the gods is the one told by Asmodeus about The First, the twin spirits that congealed from the ether, Asmodeus and his brother Ihys. They were surrounded by lesser motes and named all the gods. They then together created the first mortals, but argued over mortal's right to free will. Asmodeus argued against, Ihys for. A conflict then drew the gods to two sides, The Brother's War or The War In Heaven. This war raged and many gods died. On a distant planet orbiting a foreign star Asmodeus called for an armistice with his brother, but committed the first evil act of the gods, stabbing his sibling when he extended his hand in brotherhood in an event known as The First Betrayal. Asmodeus did not revel in his victory, feeling remorse he allowed his brother's vision of mortality to persist and created Hell as a monument to his ideals.

Of course there are sources saying that the Qlippoth existed before the gods, and that The Rough Beast, Rovagug is the greatest of them.

There is also the strange things that lurk between words that corrupted the once bright and beautiful Dou-Bral into the wicked Zon-Kuthon.

The dragons were Aspu's mortal creation.

It's the other way around unless you're ranged. There's no real reason to jump through the feat hoops to get your Dex to Melee online when you can get an Agile weapon or grab a two-hander, take Power Attack, and move on with your life.

Initiative isn't important to you unless you're a charger and your allies are too dumb to leave you charge lanes. Reflex saves are the least dangerous saves to fail. AC can be made up for by wearing medium or heavy armor, with ACP able to be bought off with money.

To get Dex working on par with Strength, you're setting at least a feat and a weapon enchantment on fire, or you are locked into a specific class to a specific point (URogue to 3rd for melee, Trench Fighter to 3rd for firearms, Bolt Ace to 5th for crossbows). For melee weapons, you still want at least a 13 Strength for Power Attack anyway (unless you are TWFing or a caster playing at martial and must have a hand free).

It really isn't worth it except in the situation where you absolutely need the Dex to cover for your bad armor AC (Rogue or Monk) or you're switch hitting as a ranged character and have a feat to burn on Finesse/get poncy Elf weapon proficiency. (Throwing builds/Elf URogues)

I have to say; from the looks of it, the best possible build for a sage at the moment is a Barrage sphere arrow spammer. This lets a sage avoid getting into the thick of melee where the sage is most vulnerable, and allows a sage to land as many attacks as possible for the chi gong strike.

Taking the Sniping sphere and Focused Sphere (Sniping) to roll twice and take the higher result for ranged attack rolls makes this build even better.

That's where a player steps in and writes a Strix who will use their fancy end-game levels to unite the Strix and find somewhere peaceful for them to settle!

Maybe they could clean out Belkzen and settle the mountains there.

>>
>>51670259
They're pretty perfect as a player race if you're in a game actually set on Golarion, yes. You get the potential to change their fate in post-game, good mechanics and a half-decent set of racial traits and stats.

-2 Cha is suffering tho, and their look is a bit off-putting unless your GM is generous.

Because Vital Strike says "make one attack at your highest base attack bonus that deals additional damage". At best some interpretations allow it on multi-attack attack actions, just only one gets the benefits of Vital Strike (Greater Weapon of the Chosen has the same wording). I've brought up this issue in SoM before without it really being addressed.

Trust me, there's always that one fight.

For me, it was that one of my players rolled a Zen Archer, and could take down anything in one turn. Except for when he couldn't--anything with a burrow speed, invisibility, or incorporeal form. Whenever those happened, or whenever something actually made it close enough to damage him, he dropped like a rock. And then the rest of the party almost got wiped until the monster/enemy got "overconfident" or something.

Anyone who thinks campaign traits are a fucking stupid idea if they don't involve some physical or magical property of the area that is exclusive to it? Case in point right there. There isn't just one specific place in the entire world where a person could have been raised to deal with trapfinding and everywhere else it's literally impossible. That's bullshit.

I'm sorry if you think your mom's omelette recipe is unique worldwide and impossible for other people to have EVER even hypothetically come up with, but the world doesn't work like that and a fantasy world where you create exceptional people to play as especially doesn't work like that.

The first one in the line lets you use Dance instead of Acrobatics to avoid movement-caused AoOs. And if you succeed you can choose to take it anyway to give allies threatening that guy AoOs.

The second lets you use Dance as a free action once a round to flatfoot a guy to your next attack. Succeeding harder makes them flatfooted for more attacks.

The third lets you use Dance in place of AC once a round, then move 5 feet. If you stay near them, you can take an AoO.

There's other minor stuff, I'm paraphrasing.

It really isn't unless there is a high priority target that must be neutralized before it can act (like a caster monster), you need to spend a turn on setup (you're a buff caster, whether selfless or selfish) or you need a specific board position (charger/AoEzard).

For most martials, it doesn't matter when you act, as long as after you've acted there's one less monster to worry about.
