Primarch's Chosen.

I do like Armored Breakthrough, but at low points a lot of armies just won't be able to handle it.

My undead Iron Hand for my Legion Diorama. It's based off the resurrected Iron Hands in the short stories Keys of Hel, and Riven.

I wanted to give him a necromantic feel without any actual flesh showing.
>>
>>51662915
Armoured breakthrough, I guess. If opponents can get into close combat with your predators (assuming smaller tables for 1000 point games) they can at least give them a darn good S4 fisting in their rear armour. A primarch may be basically uncounterable for a TAC list at that points level.

I would absolutely check how "friendly" the tournament is though, both are pretty beardy so you may seem a dick if nobody else is going all-out with their lists.

>>51663017
One guy's bringing Custodes.

His hq will have a shield. Either fist or paragon spear. Most likely 3++.
>>
>>51663064
The weakness of that character is still drowning them in 2+ saves that can't be rerolled. So just bring lots of high strength, high volume weapons

He can pick which save to use, though, so if he has any sense he'll be using invulnerable saves at all times. Still just need to drown him in wounds from Volkite or bolter spam, really, since we have no Callidus to slash him with a phase sword. Guess you could try to step on him with a Knight, too, and the D sword will deny him his reroll and kill him in 21 swings because stupid -1 to Hit :(

Honestly I think most of Inferno's problems save Magnus D nova are caused by the writers realizing they can directly modify To Hit like that rather than inflicting WS/BS penalties, and being too liberal with them, rather than the NL rule that is less severe.

Yes well, it's not like I have masking tape small enough to begin with. Mine is 3mm, which is wayyy too big for a marine sized model. I have to cut it to make it roughly the proper size, and then making it stick on the damn legs with all the bolts, ridges and crevices was a pain in the ass.

>>
>>51663233
Scyllax? Can't do shit, really. I'd probably go with Arch Reductor and some Wrecker Castys, since even at -1 to hit they hit on 5+, and the AR can take a S10 Chain/Power Fist and lay the smackdown, while all being immune to the ID from the Solarite.

Rad isn't really helping, since even at T3 from Furnace + Nades he's still hiding behind his 1/9 save.
Rad-cleansers will work well if you can hit his unit, 3 RC secutors will force an average of 30 saves on a 6 man unit if they can get them all, which will either take three wounds off him or kill 2.5 Custodes, which is almost worth the Secutors there. Probably prefer the S10 melee, honestly.

Is there a consistent fluff or examples for how defectors from the traitor legions joined up with the Imperium?

Were they made "Blackshields" in the Deathwatch sense and integrated into the loyal legions that would take them, or did they form their own ad-hoc organisations that would take orders from Terra and the Primarchs but which didn't get the official sanction of any of the "pure" legions?

>>
>>51663875
Blackshields as portrayed in book 6 are warbands that may have fought on the loyalist side, but remained independent of the Imperium. "Integrated" and "Blackshields" are mutually exclusive.

There isn't much in the novels, either. I was hoping for more traitor loyalists and loyalist traitors than there actually are. I thought there might be with the Thousand Sons, since 20-30 thousand were sent away from Prospero before the Burning... but it sounds like a lot of them got purged by loyalist legions. Lame.

In other news, I finally read The Seventh Serpent and it was great - there really were Alpha Legionnaires disguised as Iron Hands disguised as Alpha Legionnaires. (Not as many as one review led me to believe, but still.)

TSons list I am working on. Going to use my metal Rubrics and it should play like it Rubric spam as well.

Unsure whether to keep Vigilator for IC insurance or drop him to kit out the command squad with better melee weapons.

2k: Thousand Sons, Pride of the Legion

245:: Praetor ML3, Jump Pack, Volkite, Digital Lasers, Iron halo, Force Axe (Pavoni)
255:: 5 Man Command Squad, Combat shields, Jump packs, Volkite (Raptora)

105:: Vigilator with Scout Armor, Psyker (Corvidae)
235:: 10 man Ammitara Cabal (Corvidae)

230:: 10 Man Sniper Vets with Psyker, Shred ammo, AA, PF (Pavoni)
230:: 10 Man Sniper Vets with Psyker, Shred ammo, AA, PF (Pavoni)
230:: 10 Man Sniper Vets with Psyker, Shred ammo, AA, PF (Pavoni)
230:: 10 Man Sniper Vets with Psyker, Shred ammo, AA, PF (Pavoni)

220:: Xiphon w/ Ground Tracking, Armored Cockpit

In case you are wondering:
My main anti-AV14 is hoping the opponent doesn't bring any along with hoping someone rolls Iron Arm and survives long enough to charge.
Sniper doesn't work with Smite. It only affects weapons and witchfires are not weapons.
>>

>>51664803
Alright, but where is the rules for it in the Custodes wargear section? I can't fint it.
>>
>>51664819

Nothing at all.
>>
I'm done collecting models for my Night Lords, but I've got a whole second Calth box and the better part of two Prospero boxes left over.
What should I do with all my spare mkIV and mkIII armour?
>>
>>51664979
Start a second legion? One of the tough, shooty legions (iron hands, iron warriors, death guard) might make a nice contrast in playstyle to the night lords, and use up that Mk III.

Or just send the spare boxes to me. I'll give you thrupence ha'panny for them.
>>
>>51664859
The main reason for the combat shields was 5++ with Raptora for the command squad.
Also I miss counted and accidentally gave the Standard Bearer a volkite he can't take.

Boxes for everyone are 140, while Vigil and shields are 130.

I Could drop the vigil and get 2 Boxes and 3 Power Weapons plus the 1 more PW form the extra Volkite. 2 sword 2 axe? 4 Lance? :^)

Also does anyone have any idea for the Ammitara. I am thinking SM Sniper scouts but the scout heads don't look right... If anyone has any suggestions for that, they would be appreciated also.
>>

FW goofed, it has rules in one of the other books.
>>
>>51664979
Make more Night Lords? At long as you got room to sleep and paint in the house, the rest if just empty space waiting to be filled with your hobbies.
>>
>>51664979
Do some blackshields. Make them very different from each other, both in livery and mark, have fun, do what you want. That's how you enjoy the hobby
>>
>>51665023
Can't find the image right now, but I've seen some nice conversion of 40k scouts using dark eldar scourge heads. Might fit the sort of bird theme thousand sons are going to have.
>>
>>51664544
Try painting a single miniature for each legion (like maybe a 30th anniversary RG marine). Shading and highlighting red can be tricky, but black even more so. I'd get pretty frustrated painting RG. Also, BA are likely to get gold-painted units if variety matters to you.

On the other hand, RG have an armor mark almost all to themselves and cool unique units. Blood Angels won't have theirs for up to a year. I'd also say that the main BA RoW doesn't work well if multi-bombing isn't allowed. The crunch-focused BA players minimize assault squads for that reason and load up on assault cannons (with lots of jetbikes and attack bikes to help with the mandatory infantry/vehicle ratio - outriders are another unit that depend on multi-bombing).

Ah, my mistake was including the word "conversion". You win this round, google.
>>
>>51665129
The big difference is that Abaddon black has a glossier sheen - but you can easily justify the RG using a flatter (more matte) black. Only works if your sprayed-on base coat is really good.

But I'd strongly recommend basecoating with black that's been given a little bit of blue.

The reason for the 4 squads of Vets is I have a ton of Metal Rubrics so I would only need to do the sergaents, Ammitara's, command squad and the Xiphon from FW.

Adding the venator will delay the army but w/e. The Xiphon is out of stock right now anyway so I guess i may hold off on that for now.

I auto get smite, so AP2
Then the option of 3+ on Iron Arm, Enfeeble, and Warp Speed is excellent. Lifeleech is nice S6.
Endurance is situational, and hemorrhage is a dead roll.

So 3 hits, 5 useful, 1 dead.

Telekinisis is good, but considerably weaker since I have shredding sniper bolters and none of their witchfires have AP. Levitation is the only good hit for that able, and that is mildly negated by taking rhinos.

The way I play ML1 squads is I throw 1 die at their powers and half the time it works.
If I really need something you use more but for the most part, I go for zero risk, mid to high reward plays.

With 3+, you get WC1 power 66% with one dice and 89% with two.

With 4+, you get it 50/75/87.5% of the time.

Basically, if you plan on actually using powers it's better to get cult for harness bonus, unless you really need that 3++.

Well, it's probably going to be the name of the ship too, since it's a Reductor fleet, so they don't have a Forge World to name it after, I guess they do the modern Navy thing and name the class/pattern after the first one. Good thing about them having so little fluff is that I can more or less make everything up as I go along.

Also, Mechanicum. An entire pattern of gunship for the Genetors made of modified not!whales with subcutaneous armour and grav-plates is relatively standard for the Mech, especially the Reductor.

Probably going to have brass, bronze or copper metal armour, as the Reductor ships were apparently known as the "Brazen Vultures" and it fits with the Taghmata Scoria robots it will be supporting. Need to come up with the rest of the scheme to compliment that, though. Plenty of time to think while I build the thing, anyway.

I doubt you'd really catch it if soemone was using an mk4 backpack on an mk7 armor,or vice versa, whereas if you add mk4 legs, torso, helmets, shoulder pads, whatever, on an mk7, it's going to pop out a lot more.

>1 HQ per 1,000 points
The 1001-1999 thing is included as clarification (turns out it just made things worse). How many HQ you take in a 1,000 point army is covered by the initial phrase, "at least 1 HQ unit per 1,000 points or part thereof." If that initial part didn't exist, then yes, there would be a problem. But it does so there isn't.

This rule is fine.

>Frost Blades
Yes, this section is very poorly written. You've got frost blades as a type of frost blade, ICs aren't given the option to take a frost axe, there are references to frost swords in unit entries... it's a mess.

Varagyr Terminators can take a second frost sword (=non-great blade, I guess), axe, or claw, so I assume ICs can take frost axes for +5 points.

A Grey Slayer Huscarl pays +15 for a frost weapon, but that does include the more expensive great frost blade? You have to assume so, I think.

I swear my 2nd and 3rd edition Mk VII space marines had backpacks that looked like that Mk IV model.
>>
>>51667812
In my example I used mk4 and mk7 since that was what anon asked. But yeah obviously other parts are shared between marks.
>>
>>51667834
If you look at FW's MkII, III, IV, V and IV, you'd note that the only thing that changes is the top of the backpack. The lower portion on all of them is identical with the segmented plates, position of the vents, cabling, etc.

Even with the plastic models, only thing similar with the MkIV and VII are the vents. The body of the backpack is very different.
>>
>>51667828
I don't know, some of them can be very false-affably evil, especially in 30k where they haven't gone full chaos.
And I wouldn't say mine were full Traitors, they just feel that the restrictive creed of Mars is a handicap to worshipping the Unmaker God, since it denys them the best tools of His work. They were created as a Xanatite covenant, so they're a tad shady anyway, but left before the Incursion obviously, so they still use their iconography.
So they still do their job, shooting Traitors and purging planets, it's just that after the Tech-priest or whoever put out the request for them gets a look they'll start trying to murderize them for Tech-heresy. They like that just fine, since it lets them further test their new toys. As the Heresy goes on they get more and more outright villainous, until at the culmination they throw their lot in with Scoria and follow Xana into the Eye.
>>
>>51667798

>>
>>51667904

Then it should have been "1,001-2,000pts." and "1,000 or less", no?
>>
>>51667909
I guess it depends on what you consider the significant/determining portion.

If it's the top that changes, I'd call THAT the "determinant" for what makes it a specific mark. And that's what you're going to notice on the table anyways.
>>
>>51667977
I dunno, I tend to watch the backs of my dudes more than their fronts.

I'm glad GW plastic kits contain MkIV backpacks, so I can use them for characters to give them a big more pimped out ones.
>>
>>51667913
Well, it's got a whole bunch of excellent anti-armour missiles on that thing, so that's a good name for them then.

>>51667942

Seeing as the whole ship is the Gunship pattern, the actual creature they build and augment to hell to make one can probably be Megaptera something, although it's probably not a humpback as we know them at this point, so same genus but not species.

I have enough names and information about this thing to write a proper unit entry for it now. Maybe I will while I wait for it to turn up.

Who frowns upon them? That's a chunk of my IH lists
>>
>>51668325
You mean the plastic models? They aren't really frowned upon. I mean, a little bit, but not much. Rhinos and Vindicators are better than Land Raiders and Predators, imo. The remote-controlled sponsons on those, and the angular Predator turret, stick out as being a little too modern.

In other words, go for it. It's really hard to pay more than 1 GBP per point for a Deimos-pattern Rhino.
>>
>>51668339
>Yes, but it was just clarification.

And they got it wrong. Their clarification for their own rule was written wrong.
>>
>>51668451
It wasn't, it simply omitted the case that didn't require clarification.
>>
>>51668489
>It wasn't

You just agreed it should have been written "1000pts. or less" and "1001-2000pts."
>>
>>51668539
That would have been better, yes. I won't agree that it was necessary though, because no one has ever had trouble understanding "1 HQ per 1,000 points". They figured they were clear enough for armies of exactly 1,000, 2,000, 3,000 points, etc, and wanted to clarify what they meant by "or part thereof". Which they did.
>>
>>51668582

>>
>>51668621

anyone judging for using plastic models that are readily available (especially if you're using them as a way to continue to support your FLGS while building 30k) is a fuckwit.

at this point a little judgement of trying to pass off standard tac squads is to be expected because calth and prospero exist, but the vehicles are all patterns that were in use during the heresy and shouldn't be out of place

3+, actually. This is following 4th edition rules. At the time, in the Chaos Daemons book, any save shown on a profile indicated that model's Invulnerable Save, rather than an armour save. The Iron Hide Daemonic Gift gave him a 3+ armour save.

Sorry if this is dumb question but what counts as a witchfire? Beams, novas, focused witchfires? They're mentioned in the rule book as Witchfire(nova) for example, but I thought I'd check anyway.

The reason I ask is that TSons new Battle- Automata has this special rule
>Psi-locus: When using the witchfire and malediction type psychic powers withing 12" of a castellex archea, psykers with the thousand sons special rule may use one of the models in castellax-archea unit as the origin point of the power, drawing line of sight and range form it rather then themselves.

Now using this with Magnus for example?

this, but:

There's also Zone Mortalis which is designed for small forces, as well as the Victory is Vengeance Kill-Team campaign rules.

ZM is like 1k-1.5k

ViV is 150 points divided among three characters + 200-350 points of normal dudes, purchased at the cost to add models to a unit (which is cheaper than buying the initial models).

You end up with ~700 points of things depending on how you slice it.

Is the Deredeo's Atomatic pavaise any use?
If I had it next to a Thousand Son Raptora Cataphractii Terminator would it get a 2++ since the last +1 isn't coming from the kine shield special rule?
>>

Even if you would try th timing argument and say "Well the kine shield goes first and then the other buff comes in" that STILL means that because of the kine shield rule the invul. save gets boosted to better than 3++ which is not allowed. Reason : if you remove the buff, it would no longer be a 2++ save, regardless of any stupid 'timing' arguments you try to come up with.

This has been brought up and clarified countless times ever since Mark of Tzeentch did the same thing. I guess people never stop being fucking retards.
