I'm a little upset that between two boxes, I can only actually arm one raptor squad with weapons unless I go with flamers or plasma, both of which suck on Raptors. I have one spare melta from my CSM box, and of course they don't even have all their weapon options.

I give my demonprince the sword, then I stick him with 2 chaos lords on bikes, with 4 ablative biker wound guys. Turn one jink shenanigans while I go 3d6 up the field with shrouded. Have any of you guys had any luck with Hunter Killer missiles? They seem kinda overpriced for a one shot weapon but if you had 4-5 vehicles and devoted 40-50 points to them it seems like it would be nice to be able to get 4-5 shots off on one of your opponent's heavy weapons on turn 1 from the other side of the board assuming it wasn't fully behind cover.

For some reason, my opponent's fighters stack without limit, allowing him to mass huge hordes of a dozen or so fighter squadrons that make him immune to ordinance. don't buy a treadmill, there is literally no fucking reason to run on a treadmill instead of outside besides softer footfalls, they're just fucking stupid really. weight training and eating less loses you weight far far faster than cardio does anyway. go find a super simple beginner routine, Stronglifts 5x5 is probably the best one.

Reposting because helping new players is a nice thing to do: New AdMech player here without even a single game played yet. So far I have a Start Collecting Skitarii set, the Eradication Cohort and an extra Tech-Priest and box of Skitarii.
Was going to assemble my Skitarii as 15× Vanguard, 5x Ranger but I'm not sure what to do with the Kataphrons, Sicarians and Ironstrider.
My starting games are probably all going to be at 850 points to start slow and steady and I'm sure I'll have to buy some more stuff eventually (most notably another Kataphron squad) but what kind of list would be good for now?

Was considering either a Dominus Maniple + Skitarii Maniple list or a Grand Convocation (maybe picking up an Enginseer as a cheap HQ) or either Holy Requisitioner or Elimination Maniple + Skitarii Maniple (after buying a second Kataphron unit).

The flyers aren't excessively expensive, but the units you'd be using if you weren't a cheesing asshole are. Taking all flyers or all land raiders or green tide is stupid cheesy shit that banks everything on your opponent not bringing enough skyfire/melta/templates to the game. yes actually, I started with bodyweight for a similar reason as well as social anxiety. the important thing with bodyweight is not to fall into the trap of doing something like 100 pushups and crunches every day because the mechanism that builds strength is "progressive overload" - you have to do the equivalent of lifting 10kg, then 15kg, then 20kg, only utilising your body, by increasing angles that increase resistance. http://www.startbodyweight.com/ is quite a good routine.

You can do that shit easy with barely any time or effort involved other than actually pushing out the last couple reps per set. All that means is that you will have to do it for a few years instead of a few months to see big gains.

Well tauroses are shit, drop sentinels are shit. Cyclops are shit, vultures don't have deep strike, I prefer d-99 honestly since less models and executioner squads remove MCs/vehicles. You can still cheese d-99 with no flyers. Run 2 CADS with 6 executioner squads and 6 long range ground scanners and you'll fuck up lots of things even without flyers, chuck in several bolter turrets and there you have it, remove 3 vehicles a turn, remove an MC a turn.

Yes it is, but it's still a spray paint. I wouldn't push past 55%, 65% max. I feel confident enough to spray at 50% with AP whereas other brands I would never spray unless it's a bone dry 45% or below.

Army Painter also dries extremely fast, so much so that it can dry in mid air if you hold it too far away. I'm betting this is why it's humidity resistant: it doesn't stay wet long enough for humidity to fuck it.

It's not nearly all the units.
Out of 10 or 11 units, 3 or 4 are useless/sub-par.
Command squad is good
All the elite units are good
Troops are good
dedicated transport is good
Fast attack has 1 good choice out of 3, other 2 are shit
Heavy support has 1 good choice, 2 situational choices.
So altogether you have 2 unusable units, 2 situational units and a whole group of good/cheese units.
I'd say that D-99 is one of the strongest codexes in 40k for untailored matches, especially good at putting war convo/tau/eldar/marines/deamons back in their place as they're unprepared for the flying rape that is d-99/elysians. At my local tourneys I usually roll the cheesemongers which makes others happy, since those guys are powergamers. As for me, I run a more casual tau list for most games, d-99 reserved for when I'm feeling waac.

My girlfriend's little brother is going to be staying with us for a while and he thinks my Space Marines are "awesome". I'm thinking of picking up the starter set so we could play together without having to spend a ton of money on a Start Collecting box.

It's a mediocre codex that's carried by a special rule that lets it start a bunch of fliers on the table. The only way to compete with that is with an army that couldn't put up a meaningful fight against basically any other army in the game. Would it make you feel better if Elysian flier spam was put next to flyrant spam?

Well elysian flyer spam is the only way to play elysian.
Ignoring the special rule is like ignoring formations for tau/sm and bikes for eldar.
It should be equal to flyrant spam, yes because it is the way elysians are meant to be played.
So yes, I would feel better, thank you very much.
Also, most elysian units are good, all codexes have dud units, but elysians/d-99 have majority good/cheese units.

yeah they are, if you're talking about "tiers" you're talking about competitive play and if you're talking about competitive play you're talking about the best you can bring

looking at a competitive game as an analogy: if you took two laypeople and got them to play SC: Brood War against each other and they just slapped their hands against the keyboard and built whatever and one was playing zerg and one was playing Terran, the terran player would probably win because in general terran units are more catch-all and he'll just beat the zerg.

but to suggest that terran (tau) are not evenly balanced with zerg (scatspamming eldar) because of it is rediculous, because why would you bring anything but the best if you're both trying to win?
