But any advice for Atraxa superfriends? Do I need more stax or pic related? It seems like my walkers will hit the board and die to faster players
http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/more-emblems-please/
For comparison my krenko deck consistently wins on turn 6 and would eat this deck alive imo
>>
what are some core cards to a rafiq(or any other blue/white/green guy that buffs people) deck?
I've been thinking on building a heroic thing
a deck centered around humans doing great deeds, like slaying everyone on the table
I'm searching my cards to find some good stuff, but I have no idea of what to search for
I know I'm after global enchantments, buffing, removal, and a few angels.
>>
>>51568455
I'm considering building five color fun stuff. Any suggestions? Progenitus?
>>
>>51568458
It's not that the deck is shit, it's just boring. Why do something that tons of people are doing? There's so much more creative space to explore with atraxa than just the same superfriends deck everyone's seen a hundred times full of edhrec top picks and boring money cards. It's not even a good spikey win. Tazri food chain is more exciting, there's more interaction, more powerful moves, it's faster, etc. Superfriends just slowly grinds the game out to the point of not being fun even for the pilot. Winning becomes a tedious chore that you have to complete to move into your next game. I play daretti stax but once I have torpor orb and tangle wire, I just go for the kill with a wincon or strong beats (hell kite tyrant or igniter).
>>
>>51568571
tazri, but its actually a zada spin-'n-cantrip-to-win with five colors.

I've always liked wrath of god, swords to plowshares and path to exile. But those are actually good cards. For less good cards I always try to include pic related in many decks, and often it gets cut because 6 mana for the creature to get removed is not that great, it's inferior to Jitte and the swords of x and y, but I just love the life swing it makes.
>>51568552
https://edhrec.com/commanders/rafiq-of-the-many
Finest hour, noble hierarch, path to exile, wrath of god, swords to plowshares, qasali pridemage and sublime archangel are all very much in the flavor of Rafiq, and I feel the playstyle is very high value cards at low cost. Mother of runes comes to mind. Umezawa's jitte. Things that each card of mine is going to be outclassing yours 2 to 1 every time. Armageddon for when your board state gets just a little ahead of theirs. Elspeth, knight errant just because she's so efficient and flavorful. Sigarda, host of herons because she does so much in a small package. Things like that

I've got a soft spot for pic related. I try to fit it into any deck that supports it and it's gotten me out of a good many jams.

Anyone got some Spicy Darien, King of Kjeldor tech? Ramping hasn't been an issue so far, but I run out of gas pretty quick. I've got Mentor of The Meek, Staff of Nin, Skullclamp, and the cycling lands, but that's about it. Need card advantage or even pseudo-card advantage.

Ok I hear ya. I just really wanted this deck since the printing of atraxa is all, but if the deck is boring I could see going another direction. The other directions she lends towards are +1/+1 counters or infect. Infect could be pretty nasty imo and fun to play. I am also planning on building Tazri but I will probably get BTFO my playgroup for being too tryhard and winning on turn 3

This card. Even if it helps my opponents more sometimes, I always incuded it on my green decks.

I have a confession to make. I never realized until a few days ago that there people in this art, I thought for years they were just trees or background objects.

Having a hard time deciding. Who is the most competitive? I have pieces for each but also whos deck is going to cost the most just due to the price of the staples you need to build it?
>>
>>51568689
to fill the deck I should get some warriors/knights/soldiers with protection and some instants that can either kill stuff or buff my soldiers.
for the blue part I could get some strategic tapping and return to hand stuff that feels like "le mastermind strategist"
and for the green I could put some auras and other druids that feel like noble hierarch, but I feel like the auras(at least the ones I got) are too far away from the white part of the green

I may put some kithkin or some dwarves from ghirapur, but I'll probably stay away from elves though, those guys are boring.

friend recently tried to get me out of my slump by getting me back into magic. gifted me the UG ezuri deck fresh in the box because I thought he looked cool.

The group we play with on saturdays has been cool about it but I can tell they're using lower powered decks to try and match me and after 3 weeks I'm sure they're tired of that so I would like to bring the power level of the deck up a lot. I have a few hundred to blow since I've got nothing else to spend money on.

Can anyone recommend some must haves for this guy?

no need to type it if it's going to be any trouble

I'm not sure I wanna go for a tribal thing with lots of "[creature type] gets [a lot of abilities]"
I'm getting a deck full of "everyone gets [something]" type of abilities.
it'll end up being about normal guys going heroic, and rafiq is there mainly because he is heroic and a symbol to the army.

I'm figuring out some "core" cards(other than the ones said before)
so far I have
>court street denizen
>brigitte, kinsbale heroin
>dragonscale general
>archetype of courage(and planning on adding the other archetypes, if they fit)
>anafenza's spirit
>odric lunarch marshall
>eidolon of countless battles

it won't be based on creature type, but rather on stuff that everyone benefits from
this thing builds itself

living hive looks cool but it seems kind of expensive. is infect frowned upon in commander? someone mentioned something about a lot of ezuri decks winning by infect but they didn't show me any particular cards. I wasn't playing during mirrodin 2.0 so I'm not familiar with infect cards.

one of the guys in the group traded me a panharmonicon and a skullclamp for the command beacon that came with the deck and they've both been crazy good in the games i've drawn them

Infect isn't wholly frowned upon but many people still like to make house rules by bumping infect loss from 10 to 20. Also gyre sage is great for him.

>>
>>51569867
unless the Jin player puts ton of ramp or infinity mana combos in the deck he will have hard time even getting him out.

honestly even if he did get him out he will eat removal faster than pretty much any other creature in the game

I just searched about 15 pages of white cards for my rafiq deck, and I got little more than 20 potential creatures

I'll weed it out(probably) but I still need some samples of blue and green creatures to put in the mix, preference for humans and spirits/elementals/magicbeings that represent humans and their characteristics

for spells I'll mostly go to stuff that interacts with auras and other stuff, I'm not so concerned about it right now
I'll probably have a shitty response capability, though
>>

so i was holding a rather large of magic cards at my local game store today behind a couple neckbeards that i know from when i played on the pro tour with my team in years younger. It was the only pod with an open seat so there wasnt much of an option to try out my sweet Sachi, Daughter of Seshiro brew for a party i was heading to. i was wondering why the game was going nowhere when i decided to poke my snake shaman up front to see what the delay was. it was a cyclonic rift but the jin-gitaxias player didn't have enough mana for the overload and was trying to talk the judge into letter him get away with being short. this struck me as odd until i found out she was mere 1/2 mana short of her spell. now all these players were just staring and there were even two making fun of him. i walked up and handing my sachi deck to the judge, handed him a storm ctow and told him to keep the change. one of the neckbeards (i knew these people, so i also knew that they play original dual lands in their edh decks) grabbed their body pillow and yelled very loudly, "see that man? he's acting just like maro wants us to." for some reason this set me off, so i turned around. i havent shaved in a while so im rocking some nice scruff, a tolarian community college shirt (DAE Dollar?), and gym shorts, so it must have been a nice sight. very loudly, i said "like maro? m'lady im an atheist who plays saffron olive budget modern decks and i was the one who stepped up to help them? your hypocritical new world order is an inspiration to us all." as i stormed off, a couple of the drafters started to whistle and cheer, soon standard players joined in and even the owner. i tapped a land and went off with a feeling of accomplishment

You could try doing like a phyrexian artifact vault themed deck. Use old artifacts from before 8th edition that have counters. The old stockpile lands and what not. Well, they're different colours all so kind of a weird question, but I assume you're going the stax route. I would give my vote for Hanna, she's absolutely wonderful.

Selvala is also a lovely lady, but she plays entirely different kind of deck and I feel like she isn't very competitive because of the card draw unless you have a way to limit your opponent casting spells reliably.

Oakenshield seems okay too, but if you're doing stax, I would rather use either Shattergang Bros. or Karrthus as a finisher, but if colour shift doesn't matter, I could recommend Karador, he plays pretty similarly to Oakenshield, but is in different colours and is more efficient.

Overall though, I'd say Hanna is the best one, but I never had any experience with Oakenshield. Afterall, enchantments and artifacts are the best permanent types there is.

I run jinjan augur man as my almost colorless deck commander. It's mana rocks and eldrazi with 20 islands and 3 blue spells (including commander)

My old colorless eldrazi deck was fun but ran out of gas constantly. I even tried both kozileks as commander but. ..it wasn't enough.

Jin is amazing at the lead

>How do I deal with [Thing Meren does]

Pack more tutors to get your graveyard hate.

atraxa really likes scavenging ooze. which I think is even in the precon, but maybe that's another deck. there's also necrogenesis, bojuka bog, night soil, rest in peace, nihil spellbomb, relic of progenitus, grafdiggers cage, cranial archive and others. there are effects that say 'when this creature deals damage, you gain that much life'.
Just like lifelink but not actually lifelink so here's my question.
Does such an effect stack with Lifelink?
Can it stack with it's self?
>>
>>51573155

Yes, an example would be Armadillo Cloak.

It's a triggered ability that'll go on the stack and can be responded to. It effectively is a double-lifelink set up. If you have multiple Armadillo Cloaks on a creature (or multiple cards with the same text), then as far as I know yes, they would stack.
>>
>>51573155
If the Oracle text for those cards doesn't use the keyword lifelink, then yes. Mind you, that's a triggered ability, so it uses the stack unlike lifelink itself.

My rule of thumb is about 40 lands, then take out one for every two mana rocks at CMC 3 or lower. (Just a rule of thumb, fast combo decks can get away with fewer, for instance)

Also his win cons are a little lacking. He might be able to pop off with sigil, but it's probably going to be rare for him to have anywhere near the resources to grind out 120 life from his opponents, unless he assumes all of his friends are retarded and will kill each other for him.

So there are two (unofficial) playgroups at my LGS. In one, no one plays certain cards & combos are highly discouraged (synergy encouraged). In the other, everyone is ""friends"" & there are Blightsteels swinging turn 4.

I don't like playing politics (lying through my teeth), so I'm working on a more casual deck for the former group. Any tips? There are a couple combos, but the focus is more on token synergy, so any rare gems in that department would be appreciated.

>>
>>51575086
I'm not saying it's bad, I think you're coming from too competitive of formats to get that the majority of us don't play outright to win every time. Just isn't gonna happen.

If this was a 1v1 deck, I'd tell you to stop playing Hannah. But duel commander is a meme and I only play multiplayer edh. I will tell you that your creature count is very low and you don't have a lot of draw outlets.

Some things to add;

Mesa Enchantress
Rhystic Study
Scroll Rack

Those are some draw engines you might like. As for more creatures;

Aegis of the Godds
Ajani's Chosen
Auramancer
Auratog (great sacred engine for enchantments. Hits people outta no where)
Eidolon of Rhetoric (if you wanna be a dick)
Lost Auramancers
Restoration Specialist (good recursion)
Spirit of the Labyrinth (to also be a dick)

And then I'd add Ghostly Prison, Norns Annex, Propaganda, and Sphere of Safety just for the added protection from attackers.

Just things to consider. Also, remove the vehicles. They're pretty bad in EDH, only decent in Depala/Sram.

>>
I need some advice guys!
I have a Rafiq deck that my friends doesn´t enjoy playing against at all and everytime i pull it up they basicly auto-surrender the games i play it.

the question is what is a good commander to replace Rafiq that isn´t through the roof bonkers?

I was thinking C14 Nahiri or the furry that came along that precon.
>>
>>51577346
Even in control shells, I can't bring myself to use less than 20 creatures.

Remember, edhrec is a guideline not a definitive list. EDH is mostly about creativity in my opinion, and taking different routes will net you not only a nod to your deck building ego but also points for doing stuff that isn't seen as often.

Remember, a lot of creatures in other formats are unusable, except in commander where they're awesome.

Here's a list of what deck I have available on tappedout. Anything I still currently use is in the top section, where the bottom are retired decks. I was gonna be Hannah but I'm gonna go for G/W Enchantress with Karametra tho.

http://tappedout.net/users/vennivaraz/deck-folders/
>>
>>51577148
In storm maybe, but in this format it's just not very impactful. Its not something you wanna try recurring every turn with Hannah, as opposed to something bigger like Myr Battlesphere. Which is something I would suggest to him.
>>
>>51577495
What style did you take your Rafiq deck? List?
>>
Which color has the most "only viable in monocolor" cards?

Is it black because of its swamp-based mana doublers?
>>
>>51577571
There are plenty of red cards that are only good in a mono-red deck, but even in mono-red they are shit. Green has strategies that work best when you can accelerate with no worry about the colours.
>>
>>51577564
It was basically enchantress edh but with a couple of equipments to help rafiq with keywords some of the enchantments were lacking.

It went mostly towards white so that´s why i thought about nahiri as a replacement. it was basically 50 % white 35 % green and 15 % blue.
>>
>>51577571
in terms of monocolor proficiency, i'd rate the colors like this:

>black (mana doublers, contamination)
>green (mana doublers)
>red (mana hosers)
>blue, white (nothing that interesting afaik)

>>
>>51577644
If it is enchantress style then Karametra or Daxos, the Returned are good to focus further on it. With Daxos you get some spicy black enchantments to make the board hate life. Karametra is useful in that its a fairly weak commander itself and so experiences less board hate.

If you want to keep Bant then Jenara is not so threatening to be hated against, but works if you have some equipments to make her dangerous. Rubinia is a good commander to have a different effect available but it depends on how your playgroups react to control magic.

What are YOU doing? Myriad makes token copies, and doing that on a Legendary is pointless because due to state based actions you have to put all but one into the graveyard immediately (state based actions are checked and happen both before and after each spell or ability in the stack and when the stack is empty) (The copies are not sacrificed, they just flat die.)

If you wanted a straight fight, play 1v1. In EDH I can supplement my janky decks with some politics. Besides, lying gets your face smashed in first the next game. Just play politics without lying.

I love playing stupid till I ramp in one turn and smash multiple fucks at once.

Run control magic, and things that steal from opponents deck! Like pic related .

Islandwalk and things that make lands islands is cool too
>>
>>51583907
The former group is fun, the politics group is literally 3 people going "Let's be friends" then stabbing you in the back at the first opportunity. I get focused a bunch in both groups because I like to play cards instead of sitting back & either ramping or lying about my allegiances, but I'd much rather make a stupid ramp deck that builds up to an explosive turn than playing grab-ass with people that hold grudges & team up.

Kvetching aside, what do you think of the deck?
>>
>>51583907
And as I said in the first post it focuses mainly on a tokens strategy (in RUGW), so any gems for token strats would be welcomed! Considering Monastery Mentor since I have a bunch of noncreature spells, but I don't think I have enough specifically instants/sorceries for Talrand/Young Peezy. Something like Master of Waves or Abhorrent Overlord for green would be nice, but I'm not aware of any.

>4 turn commander damage clock starting on turn 1
Turn 2, actually. and you're saying that like it's fast against 3 opponents, one of which being a spider with reach that makes spiders with reach
>12-point life swing
implying spider would win with something other than some infinite combo, making most damage irrelevant

yes, the color with nothing but the actual worst card draw will be able to consistently draw the lands they need against 3 players, one of which being BG.

Wut. That's not why they are legendary. Legends have historically been legendary for 2 reasons: flavor and having unfavorable rule interactions if you get more than one out.

After the popularization of EDH, they started tailoring legends to the format and making them more "build around" these are the legendary cards that top competitive builds use.
