Just skit or admech as well? I've been experimenting a lot with both their builds lately and could try and rustle you something up if there's not one floating around on the internet
>>
eh?

also question about plague zombies. In the forgeworld books there are 2 different entries for Plague Zombies. In one book they are 3 points each and have slow and purposeful and have an ability called warp plague...but they have a 0-1 restriction.

in siege of vraks 3 the plague zombies are 6 points each and have shambling gait instead of slow and purposeful. they do not have warp plague and the restriction of 0-1 is removed.

i like the ones in seige of vraks better because they end up moving more than 6" a turn because they have shambling gait instead of slow and purposeful....they are twice as expensive, but i think they will be twice as useful since they can actually move around the damned board.

any clue as to which of these entries is the correct one to use legally?

you don't have to use wraith units when you're king of the game. tzeentch units aren't that tough, toss some templates on them, shred them to bits with shuriken weaponry. denying their warpcharges is hard but you can snipe out heralds

>>
>>51498764
so far i'm a novice at 40k , but played fantasy and sigmar for a good few years, unbound is mixing factions and bound is sticking to a mono faction yeah? so far from what i have seen at my local, there are lots of tau, with the bigger suits, lots of various marine forces, and quite a few that field what looks like a silly amount of tanks, i saw the skitarii units and they are absolutley what i want to play, from the rangers with their old style helmets and arquebuses, to the larger more robotic guys with the mechandrites, can't wait to start painting them when my SC arrives

If you're using the Ordnance Tyrant and want more than one entry you'll have to double up on points for them. Rather than splurge my model collection all over you I'm going to give you a rough list of squads to pick from in Vanessa Drast's inquisitoral assault force! A force of men formed by the inquisitors request to- look out, it's Orks!

Leman russ plasmacutioner commander
Company command squad with full following
Platoon command
20 or so men
Sniper veterans
Shotgun veterans
Bane wolf
Battle cannon russ
5 man squad of ratlings
3 chimaras (laser/bolt, bolt/bolt, laser/Hflamer)
3 lascannon teams
3 autocannon teams
Options
3 psykers
2 priests
1 commissar
2 flamers, grenade launchers, Hflamers, plasma guns, meltas

How are you going to organize the men? You've only got time to draw up 1000 points before the Orks attack!

Alright. So bound means in formations, unbound just means take what you want. I suppose you could think of bound kinda like having to run battle line in sigmar. If you want to run units they ought to be in formations, which have slots you can fill with units. Generally this means running two units of infantry and an hq, which opens up the elite and heavy support options. This makes it a little difficult at 1k to ally in admech with your skittarii, because cult mech units are expensive points wise. I'd just stick to straight skitarii. If you have a meta with a lot of tanks and suits I would recommend dune crawlers. You could give your infantry arc rifles, which would be fantastic for the tanks, but it isn't any good against the suits. You could fish for sixs with vanguard, since they will always wound on a six, but I think you'll have better luck with dune crawlers shooting them with heavy weapons at 40+ inches. Basically get a good number of infantry and then fill your heavy slots with dune crawlers. Maybe get a squad of infiltrators to come in out of Los and then make a play for an objective.

>>
NL dude here again still unsure what to do with my NL.

Here's what I have:
Betrayal at Calth
Burning of Prospero
Box of Raptors
Box of CSM
Drop Pod x2

I had intended use them for 30k, or more likely a 30k list that can play against 40k. However, I didn't realize how much FW was actually required, which I can't really justify. Buying from my LGS is one thing. He makes a profit, and I get a little discount while supporting my store, even if I'm the only one who plays. Win/win. Meanwhile, FW is more expensive and doesn't help my LGS at all, which is a shame.

On top of the price, I can't for the life of me settle on how to build the army anyway. The rules for NL feel more like NL, but RoW (all of them) feel more restrictive than formations. That leaves me with CSM, which has its own issues.

In general, 30k uses a lot more boots on the ground. What the hell am I supposed to do with 60 CSM, you know? NL to boot, which aren't exactly stellar. Unlike their 30k, I don't get any bonuses for charging a bunch of dudes into combat.
Stealth is fucking sweet, but I'm going to need to invest in rhinos because stealth isn't enough. It's kind of a catch 22 there. I need rhinos because stealth isn't enough, but rhinos defeat having stealth in the first place.

On top of that, the Murder Talon let's me have raptors as core, but that doesn't help me when I have a bunch of dudes without packs. Likewise, having super NF for a turn only goes so far because I still need rhinos because my guys don't infiltrate or anything.

I don't mean to complain and I probably sound like an autist, but I legitimately feel like I'm in a lose/lose situation when it comes to them, which in turn puts me off of building because idk what I'm going to be doing.

Tldr - autist struggles with plastic toys

There's apparently one updated Siege of Vraks Imperial Armor book.
The Ordnance Tyrant theme seems really good with The Purge but I think Unending Host is kind of broken. Your blobs come back, outflanking on a roll of 2+ and grants you extra dice on run choosing the highest when re-deploying. Units getting shot through your infantry have their cover save at 3+, meaning 2+ cover save russes with camo netting.
15 man units with 3 plasma/melta reviving and outflanking on a 2+. Shit's ridiculous.
Only downside is the fact that you can only have one FA, HS and two Elite choices.

Have wanted to get into playing 40K since my Sophomore year of high school, now that I have a jerb and shit, I am thinking about building an army.

Is now a good time to jump in? And if so, why should I chose Imperial Guard? Because I am probably going to go with Guard if I start now.
>>
>>51499578
List here, it's time for some real talk.

Do you want to feed into a business model that sells miniatures on the basis of easy to use, powerful formations? Do you want to push the game father than it was originally intended to in order to win? Abuse the d6 system for your own sick benefit to validate some part of your life? You're going to play Eldar with a Riptide Wing.

Do you have a bitter soul that need a void to be filled with the suffering and deaths of massive amounts of fictional men. Guard it is.

Do you need to put your masculinity on a pedestal for all to see so you know, that they know you're a man? One without insecurities or weakness despite that being exactly what you are? Better start howling at that moon.

Do you want to live vicariously as someone else who's competent, cunning, with "Just as planned." a fallback for for you pull some luck out of your ass? For when you, for the first time, resemble someone who's good at something? For when you are finally no longer obscure background noise in your society? You are Alpharius.
>>
>>51500014
Yes
>four hours remaining

>>
>>51500068
it's always a good time to start, you should the army you like best because that will give you the most motivation to paint them and the most fun
>>
>>51500096
I like how you assume when someone plays Eldar, they're going to go maximum cheese.
>>
>>51500068
Now is a pretty weird time to jump in. As in both good and bad.
If you've followed these threads before you know there's some major shaking up of the fluff at the moment, and there's rumors of 8th edition coming around the corner.
On the other hand, Start Collecting boxes and other deals is making collecting cheaper then it's been for a long while.

And you choose the guard because you want to show the superiority of man in its purest form, no super soldier or mutants. Just pure guts, and alot of artillery.
>>
>>51499793
We're talking about 30k. Thanks for following the post chain.

I just want to have a NL army that feels like a NL army, which I feel isn't represented well with Traitor Legions. A big part of the problem there lies with the CSM dex.
>>
>>51498840

>>
>>51500122
No I asked if he wanted maximum cheese. He didn't ask for what the most fun army was, just that he wanted a new one. I asked him if he wanted cheese, and if so, provided the answer.
>>
>>51500127

Artillery, blood sweat and tears, and literally 3 billion bullets.

I'll look into it. Really the only thing I know about the fluff changes is that the Imps got renamed to some gay shit. I read a lot of the fluff from 6 and back when I was into it hardcore. Did Leman Russ finally get back from his wolf fucking LSD trip?
>>
>>51500122

If you still play Eldar after both 6E and 7E, you're a cheesy ass faggot. Full stop.

t. All the old school Eldar players
>>
>>51500068
>why should I chose Imperial Guard?

Do you like their fluff? Do you like their look?

Aside from that the guard are very versatile. Their army can come in all different sizes and shapes. Stuff like infantry heavy armies with 100+ men, more elite mechanized troops in Chimeras with 20-40 men supported by armour and flame tanks, abhumans like Ogyns and Ratings being used to protect tanks from harm. Artillery reigning wrath down from the heavens. Lots and lots of different options that all tend to work very well. It means you can probably run any "flavour" army and still perform well.

You can even run an army entirely of tanks with the armoured battlegroup from Forgeworld.

It's in the newest edition. fyi the baron makes quad guns non compulsory troop choices and heavy support choices as elites. If you're taking Renegades ever, ALWAYS take 2x3 units of rapier lasers. They are WAY too good and WAY too cheap to ever not take.
I'd also suggest atleast one strike battery of two wyverns and one ordnance battery of three earthshakers.
If you're doing DG you may want to just take them as allies, putting your lord on bike with about 7 or so bikers in his retinue. Since you have so many ablative wounds on the board you can fill your compulsories with minimum nurgle cultist units. Here's my list but I need to fix it due to plague zombies being 6 points instead of 3. I suggested to another anon in the last thread to take one unit of 35 zombies and then another blob of mutants with an enforcer, combat drugs and unit champion with covenant of Nurgle all for less points than another horde of zombies.

1850 Renegades of Vraks/Chaos Space Marines

Renegade Command Squad:
Ordnance Tyrant with Covenant of Nurgle: 85

35 Plague Zombies: 105
35 Plague Zombies: 105

2 Strike Battery: Wyverns: 110
2 Strike Battery: Wyverns: 110
3 Heavy Ordnance Battery: earthshakers, militia training, +6 extra crew: 193

3 Leman Russ Exterminators: militia training, multi-melta sponsons, Lascannon: 480
3 Rapier Laser Destroyers: militia training, +3 extra crew: 79
3 Rapier Laser Destroyers: militia training, +3 extra crew: 79

Fortifications: Void Shield Generator 50

_____________

Allies: Death Guard Chaos Space Marines

Chaos Lord on bike: MoN, The Black Mace: 145

10 Cultists: MoN: 70

7 Chaos Bikers: MoN, Power Axe, Combi-melta, 2 meltaguns: 237
>>

Yeah Cadia has been blasted apart, and Daemons possessed the rest.

How bound are Daemon Engines to the laws of reality?

Can they teleport, phase through walls and violate reality as well as regular Daemons can?

On that note, how much would it aid Chaos Space Marines on the table top if all of their Daemon Engines could pass and Charge through cover and difficult terrain as if it didn't exist?

Or, likewise, if all of their units with the "Daemon" rule could jump into ongoing reserves and reappear on any side of the table the following turn if rolled for successfully?

Like, maybe, a "Warp Covenant" warlord trait or something they could select to do all of the above?

"40k really" is unplayable trash because of the high amount of faglords in the hobby. Casual "40k really" is identical to casual ITC in most aspects besides maybe amount of mission objectives.

I don't like the ITC either because I feel it fails massively at its goal of balancing the game, making it essentially pointless, like a seat belt that doesn't save lives. But still, you ITC anti-shills really need to educate yourselves before sperging about random GT circuits. Have you even read the ITC rules a single time? I much prefer the Renegades to their loyalist counterparts due to the fact that you can have cheaper units that have worse BS base which doesn't have an effect on template weapons. That and the Ordnance Tyrant allows units to fire into your own units in combat.
However you may want to just go with the Unending Host I described in this post
>>51499632
Alot of people tend to take a heavy/superheavy tank and bubblewrap it in those 15 man units, providing 3+ cover to it and outflanking when they die. You can afford to have your artillery as well but it'll have to be a mono build without your bikers sadly.

Bossboyz - 1850pts.jpg
411KB, 900x1670px
So, before the GW FAQ added a segment that said that you can't fire beams or focused witchfires from a transport, I was considering something similar to this for an Ork army. Main difference, was shuffling some points around to make two of the 3 Looted Wagons into Gunwagons (for AV 13), but those aren't an option in the roster builder. Likewise, the "Oddboyz" are a stand-in for Mogrok's Bossboyz from Sanctus Reach. That formation lets you re-roll to Seize the Initiative, and grants D3 of Ork units Outflank & Acute Senses.

The idea was "screen/bubblewrap/do some basic dakka" while doing some reserves/betastriking. The SAG Boyz join the regular Grotz, while the Warboss/Bike Mek/Painboy form a mini Deffstar. Mini Bike units are Nob delivery vectors (though Shrieks hurt). Warp'Eads are "another gun", though they might summon in an odd game should I feel desperate.

Does this list look workable/what tweaks would you make to fine-tune it?
>>
>>51500764

Also, I just realized that you can Take Celestine as part of an allied detachment. You can literally just tack the bitch onto any army as long as you take a single troop tax from anything in the imperium with her.

Literally any of the Start Collecting kits will give you a legal if small force to play 40K with. They're all $85. You will also need to buy a Rulebook and a Codex (or just download pdfs of them) though.

I think each box comes with somewhere around 500 points of stuff (generally an HQ, one troops choice, and a vehicle) and works as a pretty good getting started pack.

Alternately, if you want to play Dark Angels or Chaos Space Marines, you could always just grab the Dark Vengeance set. It's a little more expensive, but it gives you two decent sized armies right out of the gate. Also, you'll get a rulebook as well, which will save you some money. If you can find someone to split the cost of the box with you for one of the armies it's not a bad deal at all.

The other option, if you want to play Space Marines or Tau, is to spend $60 on a Killteam boxed set and play some low point Killteam games to get a handle on how the game flows. This set also comes with a rulebook.

Lastly, if you want to play Space Marines or Orks, and you don't mind getting older monopose models that aren't quite as detailed and don't have customization options like modern models, you could always drop $50 on a Battle for Vedros starter box. Disregard the BfV specific rules inside and you'll have a small but decent army for both SM and Orks. This isn't a super recommended option, but if you're a poorfag or you don't have a lot of modeling experience and want something that is easy to assemble than it would suit you well.

Lastly, you could just buy a codex, read up on battle forged armies, and start buying units, but the key to saving money in 40K is to try and buy boxed sets or bundles if you can.

Whichever army you pick, the Armored Assault boxes are a solid second purchase for beefing up your ranks. They run $55-$65.

Lastly, you'll need spruecutters, a hobby knife, glue, at least one brush, and paint. You can get most of these in one of those Build+Paint kits for like $33

Should just be an invuln
>>
>>51501108
The Start collecting box for Necrons is a good place. From there, after you play some games to learn things, you can combo it with an armoured assault box for a pretty well rounded army for lower point games.

However, when that shell is destroyed, they are almost certainly banished back to the Immaterium, and likely for a good long while.

Somehow I imagine this will be FAQd, like many other things. As much as one can appreciate the hilarity of a Tau Shas'el with a Blade of the Worthy, or even using Sacrifice with Malefic Daemonology to summon a Holy Daemonic Herald!
>>
Someone mind explaining the Empyric Table?

I heard it has a result that turns sixes into ones and ones into sixes for a couple of turns.
>>
>>51501137
Is there a way to make them look better? Like just getting a bunch of different lower body sets?
>>
>>51501734
The Tau taking the blade doesn't work out as well, since you have to swap a melee weapon for it.

I hope it doesn't get FAQd though. The only army that really benefits a lot from it is Orks and some of the other weaker armies.

If somebody wants to slap Celestine's wings on a warboss, throw a couple of stormboys with him, and get an Invuln save for their actual warlord, I'm all for it.

If you want to get truly disgusting, I'd just take a ton of Anarchic Heralds instead of that Daemons CAD. As is, you're paying 531 points for 9 rolls on Daemonology and 13 Warp Charge. You can take a 9 man Anarchic Heralds unit with Paradox, Grimoire, and one Level 3 Herald (the Paradox Herald) for 510 points. That nets you 11 rolls on Daemonology and 20 Warp Charge. Just hide them behind LoS blocking terrain and all your tanks.

Scourge heads might look a little odd unless you do some pretty tedious conversion. If you got any experience with recasting, it'd probably be easier to just recast the Sabbat-pattern helmet out of the Immolator kit. It's plastic and if you're running SoB, you're probably going to want that kit anyway.

On another similar note, Greyfax can also be converted pretty easily into not!Veridyan if you're in need of a Canoness.
>>
>>51500160
GW's pricing is all about how many boxes they think they'll sell. A HQ or special character won't move as many units as a troops choice hence GW doubling the price. Its dickish but consistent with their behavior to keep the same profits after the costly plastic tooling process.
>>
>>51501411

Double all Ork wounds and hull points. Painboys now only affect models within 6" (same as KFF).

>>

No thanks, I'd like to finish the game within the next few decades.

On a more serious note that's not too ruthless or WAAC-y and is basically identical to the sort of lists I prefer to run. I'd play against it. Infiltrators + fast dudes is fun. You'd absolutely wreck my DE though lel
>>
>>51498692
Friendly reminder it doesn't matter they're all dead anyway since the Ynnari do more damage to the Eldar then they do to Chaos.
>>
>>51502500
Level 1 Heralds are the cheapest points-per-Warp-Charge. Here's the layout:

1x Level 3 Herald with Paradox- 120
1x Level 1 Herald with Grimoire- 75
7x Level 1 Herald- 7x 45- 315
Total- 510 points, 20 Warp Charge, 11 rolls on Malific Daemonology

This is specifically built to replace his Daemons CAD and fill the same point slot. No discs, no other rewards. The goal here to just shit out as many Daemons as you can with that Death of Kasyr Lutien Rhino. You'll pretty reliably be able to cast 4-5 WC3 Conjurations a turn as long as that Rhino survives. On average, two of those will be Heralds turning into D-thirsters turn 1.
>>

There's an enormous 30k crowd up here in Jacksonville. But the dude who runs the facebook group for it is a total dick.

I once tried to run a 40k campaign that would have used the HH4 campaign stuffs to design characters. It got me the attention of the local 30k crowd that was apparently excited to get a new player. Then the group owner tilted off on me and raged as soon as he found out I wasn't actually playing 30k. He then went behind my back and started slandering my reputation to everyone he met.

Of course I only found out about him doing that like 3 months later when I have my first game against who would later be my best friend, and he lets me know after the fact that he thought I was going to be some cheating waacfag.

He didn't use the Planet Killer.

Also, take some pride in this, even when he ridiculously outnumbered the very last Cadian defenders he, somehow, still couldn't beat them on the groud.

On a serious note though; the ending would have been better if the Planet Killer or Blackstone Fortress blew up Cadia, seeing as they are cool narrative devices which exist for this purpose. The whole 'strap engines to the rubble' was just weird.

Steam group, then? It isn't an awful idea, I've played kill team and 40k on table top simulator. I'm still a scrubby nun with like a total of five games spread across two years, but it's pretty fluid. The only slow downs were related to not knowing the rules. Having like an organized game night every other week with posts for pick up games would keep things loose enough to function and organized enough to bring everyone together for the occasional game. If blood bowl can manage a multi season league with organized brackets, we can manage a few pick up games and a loose narrative.

This >>51503116 inspired me to mathhammer out a Gorkanaut vs a Stormsurge.

8 wounds
12 effective due to FNP
1/6 hits fail to wound, because wound on 2+. 15 wounds needed.
1/3 of attacks fail, because WS4. 23-24 attacks needed.
Naut makes 4 attacks each turn. Needs 6 turns of close combat to destroy, on average.

Stormsurge hitting back. Must use Smash attacks because Str 6.
Only fails to strip HP on a double 1.
Half of attacks miss due to WS2.
10 hits needed.
10 rounds of combat to destroy, on average.

However, average of 2 stomps each turn.
5/6 stomps remove at least 1 hull point.
5 Stomps needed to destroy.

Every two rounds of combat, Naut loses 4 hp (on average); 1 from Smash, 3 from Stomp.

After three rounds of combat, Naut is statistically dead. This is WITHOUT the Tau player rolling a 6 on the Stomp table or on the vehicle damage table, either one of which instantly destroys the Naut.

Even in the best case scenario, where the Naut charges an anchored Stormsurge, it still kills the Naut in 4 rounds.

So the close combat monster loses against the model with no arms.

Thematically, it's bloody difficult to imagine.

does anyone else magnetise or otherwise leave a way to swap out weapons or modules on their models? about to buy a tau start collecting box and cant help but think that id more than likely want to try out different crisis suit configurations and being able to change the models would make that easier to identify the models on the table as well as having flashy aesthetics.

also, why have the option of having dual/twinlinked fusion blasters or plasma cannons on crisis suits but give a pack of 3 suits only 4 guns? are they banking on people buying a second set of suits and making 2 fully kitted squads or something? do people generally not swap out their units and just change their lists?

I dislike Space Marines entirely. Incredibly boring. I like Chaos Marines however, and I wish the lore was that they could no longer make new Space Marines, so there would only be the old Marines that turned to Chaos.

SO its basically confirmed that 40k is going to be drastically changed and simplified

When it happens, are you going to stay on board?
>>
>>51503727
Them dying out is ideal yes. I can absolutely see why people like them and as you said, there are many that differ enough that there's a lot of distinction and uniqueness to their chapters.

I don't like their lore or their look and despite lots of variety in chapter, I find their personalities and stories unrelatable or a bit dull. I find them to be the most out of place thing in 40k, which is funny considering they are the most iconic aspect of it.
>>
>>51503796
Depends on how they do it.
>>
>>51503739
well the next on my list is lamenters
>>
>>51503796
No it's not. But 40k right now is a mess of special rules spread thin over the whole rulebook so simplification can only make it better. As long as they don't fuck up the fluff completely.
>>
>>51503815

>>51503973
Pius is a myth, is what he is. There's a Perpetual he might be based on, but he isn't even called Ollanius Pius. Fluff is that there's different versions of the story, including Saint Pius, a Custode and a Space Marine.
>>
>>51503787
i did read. the will of eternity is called the last one, and the other was sent to attack the cadia system before fall of cadia. Cadia is still around and there are reports that the other one has been destroyed, so unless they use that as an in to bring it back later, both of them were destroyed attacking cadia. i'm not saying that they can't come back, i'm just saying that as things stand right now, there are no blackstone fortresses left.
>>
>>51503969
They could also have meant that this isnt the End Times for the 40k fluff.

Theyre still free to completely change the rules
>>
>>51504028
Seeing as the end times was the vehicle for that change in fantasy, i see no reason why they woudent use the same method for a 40k version.
>>
Anybody got the armies of expansion tau painting guide as a pdf?
>>
>>51504041
Because they dont want to end the 40k universe?
>>
>>51504048
So why would they need to do a major shit in the rules,, especially since the romours have said otherwise, which leads me back to my original point: stop trying to spred misinfomation
>>
>>51503994
It's says the LAST KNOWN ONE. Known by the Imperials.

Nothing indicates that the other one was destroyed other than unreliable Imperial reports. So it's basically confirming that it's still around since the Imperials suck at information gathering and everything they say is the opposite of the truth (See regimental standard).
>>
>>51504066
>So why would they need to do a major shit in the rules
The fluff and rules are totally separate you realize?

They want to simplify 40k to make it accessible to beginners. They can keep the fluff mostly the same but change the rules
>>

They thought Fantasy wasn't selling because both it's setting and rules were trite, and the setting was too generic to smack down with trademarks, so they fucked it up. 40k's setting is very strong and popular even outside the wargaming community so they don't feel the need to change it too much, while the rules are a nigh-inpenetrable jungle.
Which is funny because I thought the purpose of the last two editions was to simplify the game.
