So, why was this not the first book?
>>
the podcast is going to be maximum overgay
>>
>>51422889

Because you need to set up everything, establish the setting, have a basic list for the Legions, and set up rules for a few of them.

Imagine that with two of the most unusual, deviant and OP Legions first. It would have crashed and burned
>>
>>51422889
because it covers the two worst legions on either side, and some shitty golden bananas that are largely irrelevant outside of webway fuckery
>>
>>51422933

But the Word Bearers aren't in this book.
>>
>>51422923

So? Suggest a way to not make it overgay. Bloody hell, I hate it when people just complain without lifting a finger to actually do something about said complaints. If you have a suggestion to improve it before it even starts, please share it so we can use it to make this work. This is a thing for the community after all. Otherwise, shut the fuck up if you've not nothing more to say than 'it's going to be maximum overgay', without saying why or what can be done to make it otherwise.
>>
>>51422924
Fair enough.
>>
>>51422959
Well, I am a part of the community. I won't be there.
>>
>>51422924

How are the space wolves OP? They were like every other legion.
>>
>>51422945
>implying the Wolves aren't the worst
Wolf wolf wolf wolf wolf wolf. Wolf wolf? Wolf. Wolf wolf wolf. Wolf. Wolf. Wolf? Wolf.

No.
>>
>>51422959

My constructive criticism is to not do it for the same reason I recommend not driving off cliffs. There's not really a middle ground
>>
>>51423078

But if we were to do it, regardless of the risk, how would you go about making it something the community (as in most average posters here) would enjoy? Something to listen to while painting/modelling?

Besides, this is the first real thing /hhg/ has done in ages. it's either try and actually produce something, or just give up and leave this place as a cesspool of shitposting and bad memes. And I for one want to give the /hhg/ something back.
>>
>>51423060
Yes :^)
>>
>>51422959
Real answer.
It is a flooded market, with no real new influx of listeners or players.
Your opinions may matter here, your own personal ideals of how X should be more or less like Y may make sense here, but the hobby has a lot of personal interpretation of what is and is not good. Your opinions may make a lot of people mad, may be old news to certain circles, or may just be ignored as the same thing everyone else is saying.

>>51423121
Have an open poll for questions- maybe from each thread, each day or each week.
Have a painting section, where the most talented of the speakers goes into depth on how to do certain effects, maybe even doing them live (Have a YT to post them up later)
Following on the YT idea, make videos discussing the most commonly asked questions, so a video can be referenced for list building, army content, WYSIWYG in 30k, etc.
Have as many guest speakers from other podcasts as possible.
Also, if you are going to make jokes on air, don't have them be inside jokes. Nobody likes being left out.

R8 & H8! In between all the shitposting.

SoH 2000
RoW - The long march

HQ
Maloghurst
Centurion forgelord with cortex controller, refractor field, cyberfamiliar, rad grenades, melta bombs, powersword.

Troops (maloghurst makes veterans troops)
Veteran squad (10) with 2 heavy flamers, 3 combi-flamers, powerfist, rhino transport
Veteran squad (5) with dual lightning claws and 4 power mauls

Fast attack
Seeker squad (8) 5 combi-meltas, LR Proteus with lascannon and explorator array.

Heavy
Land raider achilles

Thallax (6) with heavy chainblades and ferrox augment.

Heavy support squad (5) with missile launchers and augury scanner.

Malohurst is with the heavy support squad. His warlord trait makes him scoring and then he can camp with the fire power.
Flamer veterans seek out objective and cleanse any troops holding.
Melee veterans follow the Forgelord in the Achilles.
The rad grenads makes enemies t3 which gives the power mauls instant death. They seek out tougher prey.
Seekers use the Proteus to scout into almost the enemy deployment zone and unleash first round hell with rerolls of 1s. The meltas will kill most things.
Thallax deep strike 2nd round and either go after vehicles or infantry.

It checks out rules legal but give me some critique if you want.

At this time, i'm not feeling it with tacticals, that might come with 2000+ points army. Also, I wanted some variation of units or units with slightly different purposes, explaining the Thallax. Another reason is that woth this list I only have to buy the land raiders.

>>
>>51424720
Dogs are dogs, am I right? So not really

>>51424776

Well if you put it that way, most units have the standard bolter. The thing I lose is fury of the legion.
>>

they're not the same and you know it. we have to pay for our rides

>>51424794
fair enough I suppose, I'm just not into the same style of 30k as you, I personally think the "vets are troops" is a mistake that just makes 30k more like 40k which is something I believe the system would be better of without.

only poorfags and waacfags use vets as troops :^)
>>
>>51424836

I agree on the veterans are a mistake. Your arguments are correct. Why do I use them then?
Because I'm a poorfag. At least I'm not a waacfag thank God.
>>
>>51424836
So 2x20 man tac's is they way to go? That's good, I almost thought I was being crazy.
>>
>>51424776
do mechanized tacticals get a pass?
>>
>>51424942
How many units?
>>
>>51424864
if you're a poorfag/lazyfag that hates tacticals you should be running armored breakthrough, no question about it. my first 30k list was an imperial fists armored breakthrough and it's pretty fun. and easy on the wallet with betrayal at calth or prospero box and then ebay the rest of the tanks.

then when you get money buy FW or better friends with connections hit up the chinaman
>>
>>51424909
vets are better in every way except fury of the legion, but its not as iconic and fun as 40 bolter marines shouting angry words as they charge up the field.
>>51424942
definetly, desu I have respect and adoration for all list combinations besides vets as troops, even terminators as troops is more ballsy then vets.
>>
>>51424954
What about super vets that cause fear and have choom?
>>
>>51424954
>even terminators as troops is more ballsy then vets
That's because terminators are the coolest. But only if they're indomitus or cataphractii. Special termies and tartaros termies can go home.
>>
>>51424950

Infantry (termies or/and reavers) in anvillus drop pods will come when the wallet allows it.
>>
>>51424966
its fluffy :^)

its allright for NL and AL to use their special units as troops because it fits their style of warfare and the rites are somewhat restrictive enough for it to not be stupid like POTL is.
>>
>>51422959
> Read long faggy blog post

How about... don't make it?
>>
>>51424729
Sure, here's a c&p of the whole scheme. Bit long but detailed.

They're done using a combination of airbrush, wash and drybrush. They first get a layer of Vallejo Leather Brown Surface Primer then a layer of VGA Bonewhite and a zenithal coat of VGA Dead White. The whole model gets a wash of AP Soft Tone and then a drybrush of VGC Bonewhite and one of VMC Offwhite. Green shoulder pads are a couple of layers of Death World Forest with a lining of Soft Tone at the edges.

Brass is a layer of VGA Brassy Brass and VGA Bright Bronze washed with Ogryn Flesh Wash. Steel is VMA Silver with a wash of AP Dark Tone. Banding is just a few layers of Dark Tone.

Gun casings are VGE Heavy Charcoal with highlights of VGC Cold Grey and VGC Stonewall Grey and washed with Dark Tone. Lenses are VGA Gory Red, Bloody Red and Orange Fire with a wash of Soft Tone and a dot of Offwhite in the top corners if I can reach them.

Bases are a layer of Black Lava primed with Leather Brown then drybrushed with Heavy Charcoal, Cold Grey and Stonewall Grey and a touch of Offwhite. Chipping is sponged on with either Heavy Charcoal or VMC Black Grey, whichever is closer at the time. Skulls are Dheneb Stone with a Dead White highlight then washed with Soft Tone. Then I brush on a bunch of Vallejo Pigments Carbon Black around the boots and greaves to tie them in to the base and with decals and a varnish the model is done.

starts with magnus visited by Shai-Tan on the Planet of the Sorcerers, shortly after being transported there. then reminisces about the planet morningstar (hey get the reference?!) where he tried to help the inhabitants escape from the planet's sudden and impending self-destruction.

perturabo is of the sympathetic pre-autism flavor, still mathematical in thinking but very human.

basically part of the populace is influenced by the shaitan cult and the book of leviathan, and they wish to die because that is the path to elevation.

turns out a terra colony ship landed on the planet, and the reason why the planet survived old night entirely unscathed is because they surgically mutilated every single person who had psychic potential.

that little act, done within the colony ship, created a psychic horror calling itself Shai-Tan (get it yet?!) that even surpasses magnus in sheer power. the colonists back then understood they had fucked up big time and sealed the ship and fucking buried it. then they created a self-destruct mechanism for the planet (currently in its final throes).

the sons, ever curious, just popped open the colony ship, get themselves possessed, magnus tries to intervene but gets manhandled (or psyhandled), eventually a momentary pause in Shai-Tan's onslaught allows magnus to literally toss a pokeball at it in the form of sucking it into his book.

cue a lot of "yo magnus you just fucking condemned your legion hahaha but eh thanks for freeing me from my hatred" from shai-tan and its all over.

and back to the planet of sorcerers with shai-tan telling magnus that there is still a path open to him to move forward.

I use this instead m8 (vallejo game color blackwash) got it about a year ago and £10.99 and still have more than half. It's 200ml vs the nuln oils 24ml and as a bonus its not easy to knock over. You just have to give it a good stir before use (for the love of God don't shake it.) I've found it gives better coverage too.

A 24ml of nuln oil costs £4.55. I only have it because I paint in store sometimes.

order of ruin only gets briefly mentioned; it's basically thousand sons who are fascinated by numbers for the purpose of destruction. ahriman compares them to the iron warriors, saying they are pretty similar except that the order is driven by curiosity rather than efficiency

they're from the 40k ahriman book series, with ignis as the order's founder

So did McNeil try to retcon the Decimation?
>>
>>51426039
FYI, Graham McNeil doesn't even like Thousand Sons. He was disappoint he got given them when the Prospero story was being planned out. Don't expect him to make Magnus sympathetic or relatable at any time.
He's not a complex writer. His view of Magnus is literally
>guy who was interested in bad things gets easily tempted into learning about bad things, trouble ensues
The only reason his view of the TS comes off as did nuffin wrong is that the SW literally murder civilians for no reason, as well as burn books and destroy art that has nothing to do with sorcery, while Ahriman and the others go "wait what's happening". There are zero shades there, the only reason it feels complex and mythic is the fact that they all got Just As Planned.

Here is an idea. If FW add a 0-1 "Officer detachment" to elites where you can take 1-3 Consuls. The draw back is those consuls must have the "Legion Support Officer" rule and each model can't be the same Consul type, e.g. can't take 2 Librarians. (Note: I have written 'Consul', not Centurion, they have to be upgraded). Would you find this new unit useful? broken? thoughts and feedback please.

Shaitan is the islamic word for Satan. He's put a hyphen in the middle because Sci-Fi/Fantasy writing rules I guess.
The planet is called Morningstar, which is the meaning of the name Lucifer, which is another name for Satan.

I understand there are people who for whatever reason have never learned these things before, but when reading the book you would probably have realised it from context quite quickly (or he would have explained the reference to you like in VS), but for anyone that already understands it - which would then include you once you grasped it - it's fantastically lazy and disappointing. You're being asked to try and take seriously a novel about Magnus when you have to read him having conversations with a character literally called Satan. Kinda knocks you out of the mood.

This is not to say that you can't write a good story about someone talking to the Devil. You can. Just maybe don't make it phenomenally sesame street tier obvious that it's the case, you know?

Not too bad, carving out the backplate of the terminator armor enough for the head to fit is a bit challenging. I wanted the head to be jutting out a little bit more to make the character look larger due to being a Blackshield Chymeraie option 1.

To get the helmet to rest within the gorget is more difficult, you would have to do some serious carving and risk losing the detail on the piping.

It's very easy to build, the tracks are all one piece apart from at the rear where there's a small amount you have to glue on (as a single piece) and I had to do a bit of filing and filling to get them to fit nicely. I had to do a little bit of gap filling where the prow meets the body as well. It's a really nice model but honestly I don't think it's worth £90, it's actually really small considering what it's meant to be - the triaros has it beat in all dimensions except width. If it was like £75 I'd be happier.

As long as he's not infringing on their trade marks, he's not going to get in any real trouble.
Most of the iconography GW uses for the legions is relatively generic, so image marks are going to be a pain in the rear to enforce.

Some Myrmidons in that thing should make an excellent Linebreaker and deathstar deterrent. 30k army in full coming soon, painting a Knight and an Elimination Maniple at the moment.

>>
>>51428935
>everything on prospero was about sorcery and their applications
There is a difference between using the warp and sorcery. Yes I know of that retarded GK codex that says differently but lets ignore that shall we, as otherwise all the Imperiums psykers and the Emperor use sorcery which is just silly.

The idea that the Emperor never thought teaching the psykers of the Imperium how to use their powers was worth his time never sat well with me. Surely he should understand how important that was. Either way though he made no attempt to stop Magnus for reaching out and attractive psykers to Prospero during the Crusade.

While we can surely all say that there were plenty of psychically resonant stuff and a high population of psykers on Prospero, let's not kid ourselves here and say that's a justification for genociding an entire planetary population and razing everything to the ground because muh maleficarum.
People up to Malcador have expressed regret over the level of destruction visited upon the libraries of Tizca and the knowledge lost.
No-one ever mentions the people because the 40K life is cheap thing crashed into 30K hard somewhere after the Drop Site Massacre, but even if you're a hardline dude, we're talking kids that could've ended up being astropaths or fuck, servitors if you're really grimdarkly minded.
Don't downplay a tragedy, it's missing the point.

I have a triaros as well for carrying around various things - sometimes it's a bunch of Thailand, other times its a tech priest auxiliary squad to buff up some thralls or fix things up. I also like putting one of my magos' in it with a bunch of scyllax for a wall of dakka.

Kinda. The 80 years war was supported by cities in Flanders, however with the treaty of Westphalia, the Soutern Netherlands and Flanders were recognized as a Spanish possession, mostly due to Brussels being the Captital of Charles V only a few decades before.
Flanders later went over to the Austrian Habsburgs, who later lost it to the French.

One option is to create an army that was in the SoH during the early Heresy, freaked out, bailed, and repainted their armor white with LW symbols. They'd still have the armor they had as Sons of Horus. You might even be deliberate crude in scraping off the eyes of Horus.

The original LW would have looked pretty generic.

>>
>>51429645
I think they're kind of British, but not in a chirpy cheeky chappy way, more a we're-going-to-queue-in-the-rain-dammit sort of way. Their humour is extremely dry and sardonic, to the extent that outsiders don't always realise when they're making jokes, which also seems British to me.

But, really, I'm hoping for a Mortarion book like the recent Lorgar & Perty ones that explores the Death Guard's culture a bit more. At the moment they haven't been covered in a huge amount of detail, and when BL really kicks off on them it'll probably be all about the nurgle corruption.

Nice, seems odd to have that few bits after the GW kits.

My Enginseer squad is probably going to hang back and fix stuff, as well as tank wounds for the Magos Reductor who needs to hang around the artillery and Thanatar and such anyway. Was thinking about just two Enginseers and 4 servo-arm bots, fairly cheap, two guaranteed repair to keep the tonks running and can smack something with power fists if they really have to. Archimandrite is grabbing a Graviton Imploder or something and chilling with the Myrmidons, or I'll get him a Vorax bodyguard.

Honestly not sure why Thallax need a transport, though. Mine will have Photon Thrusters and hop about taking potshots and scoring, I think. I have plenty of scoring from them and the Milita Levies or Adsec I'll be taking.

Black primer, Leadbelcher spray. Nuln Oil wash (because of course) then Ironbreaker drybrush.

Agrax Earthshade painted on for shading, focusing on recesses the the bottom parts of panels, blending it upwards.

Relevant parts painted black again, sponge weathering is black too.

Hazards are Tausept Oche (oop), 50/50 Tausept and Hearthfire (P3 paint), then Hearthfire. Sponge with black, wash parts with Agrax.

Base is Agrellan Badland texture, Agrax wash, drybrush Baneblade Brown then Terminus Stone. Base rim black.

Red bits are Evil Sunz Scarlet, Agrax wash, Evil Sunz again, white dot.

I know, I'm still a bit underwhelmed. The lascannons it has are really fucking nice though.
I rarely put thallax in there, its normally if I want to keep them alive for a turn or so while the ursarax charge forward. If you ever face a blob army take a tech priest auxillia squad and give them all flamers, its hilarious to pop them out and burn something to death

I've found vorax aren't best used as bodyguards, you want them sneaking up on the enemy from various table edges and running in and raping shit, its what they're good at (I5 if you take the cybernetica cohort and rending lets them murder even heavy vehicles)
>>
>>51430615
I also wish for this

They're my legion and not having anything to read about them is disheartening me.
>>
>>51431056
They're Rending? Handy. List is currently looking like Cybernetica to start with then Reductor once I get the artillery converted and painted.

Did not realise the Macrocarid comes with the Lascannon as well, that will help. My Biologis blimp I'm planning at the moment will probably have a magnetised frame, for either two Havoc Launchers and a sensor package or four missiles and a twin lascannon on the front, so it can switch between being a Vulturax and a Lightning when required. Going to be interesting to build, since it'll need lots of plasticard.
>>
>>51431221
They have the lightning cannon which is rending, then their melee at s6 i believe which is also rending. Always take the bio corrosive rounds on them too.
>>
>>51431069
Yeah. The thing is, one of the reasons pre-corruption DG interest me more is because they're a force/organisation that doesn't exist in the 40k universe, and that's one of the core appeals of 30k for me. So I'm hoping we hear some more about them at some point.

Eye of Horus for entertainment, especially their special segments (Primarchs vs Cryptids, Primarchs vs History, cultural exchange episodes, episode 66(6)'s tarot segment...). But their focus is events and those segments aren't as interesting. They were the first really popular 30k podcast so you kinda have to check them out first.

Radio Free Isstvan for rules and list discussions (also a culinary and cultural exploration of the American Midwest). They know their stuff.

Age of Darkness for painting advice and fluff (they discuss a BL book every episode).

Sons of Heresy is promising for their introductions to specific armies, but I haven't listened enough yet. They're pretty new.

I haven't tried Northern Heresy nor Covenent of Fire. The others I've checked out were a little wanting, imo.
