Thread opening discussion:
They're making a Walking Dead skirmish battle game between survivor groups amid the zombie hordes.
Frontal units are a bit low for nerve and defense, but I guess it depends on how you play. Personally, I take all my mounted units in regiments, but whatever.
We need more play reports
I want to try out the knight horde rapetrain but I don't really know how to do it. The only things that are certain in the list are the knights, the wizard with banechant and the mounted standard.
>want to try out the knight horde rapetrain
Knight Horde x5
General on pegasus x2
2000 pts exactly
Knights destroy at least 5 units before something can do significant flank damage to them
Two flying heros can shut down anything in their backfield
>under 2000 pts
Pretty sure there was one all-cavalry list that won one of the tournaments, but I'm pretty sure it had a mix of ranged and nimble too
>We need more play reports
Funny you should mention it, I uploaded one today.
I've got a few more on my channel, too. Master Crafted have brilliant quality reports, I'd also recommend reports by Andrew Gale and Micky Ward.
I cant decide between running The Varangur allied with Abyssal Dwarfs or Basilea allied with Dwarfs.
is the rules that you can ally good/evil with Neutral right? basically deciding between Varangur or Basilea to represent a Stormcast army. I think both work with some empire or korne starter set guys allyed in for the more wild Varangur but im not sure which would be better to run. Good vs Evil bro who should I pick. right now im edging towards Good but only beacuse the dwarf list looks amazing.
Would any one happen to have Uncharted Empires as a epub?
Reposting again since the last thread died.
Here is my idea for a 1000 point Dwarf list to get started. I specifically want to go for a Berserker theme and this is what I came up with.
Berserker Lord - 120
Mount - 30
Stone Priest - 105
Bane Chant - 15
Ironguard Regiment - 160
Brew of Strength - 30
Rangers Regiment - 180
Berserker Regiment - 180
Berserker Regiment - 180
The (Almost completed) forces of Zhat-hakh Zhar-bhak, hold of the cruel masters of the north.
Walking Dead Kickstarter starts February 1st, ends February 29th. There will be one pledge level. The base game and all the Wave 1 expansions for $125
First stage of my Araby'esque 10mm army done, 2 regiments of bowmen, 1 horde of pikes and mounted sergeants plus a beast of war to tidy it all up, now I need to order some command and the rest of the Ogre allies.
Trollblood fellcaller for size.
I'm keeping my footprint down because i'm trying to play this on my cheap ikea coffee table.
KoW actually would work well in a scaled down version and the cheapness of models would make it a game with the buy in cost similar to trading card games. You could probably get a 2k point army for under 100 dollars which is more than enough for battles.
KoW mediafire guy here
I see you switched over to a mega archive
And there's an actual full 2e book, now?
Well, I added the new 2e book (bookmarked) to my folder.
It doesn't have the list as silly bookmarked (ie, per-unit) as the old lists (Those are in "Maybe Obsolete Files" now because I don't know if they changed, or what) mostly because I don't feel like doing that right now considering it's of dubious worth with ctrl-f and online lists and it's a a lot of work anyways.
Also like I said last thread, the Uncharted Empires is bookmarked.
If you guys wanna use mega (presumably somebody actually active in the thread manages it?) I advise at least using my bookmarked files. Or is there some problem with them?
My folder is here: https://www.mediafire.com/folder/meedbza42sp4m/Kings_of_War
Building this list out of Reaper Bones for like $70 AU
Will people hate me? I just thought all angels would be a laugh, but fuck it's a lot of hard hitting flying.
I'm a fan of The Walking Dead, and I have no friends who play tabletop miniatures games. So a The Walking Dead miniatures game with a singleplayer mode is all kinds of perfect for me
I hope they get to Ezekiel and Shiva in the Kickstarter
Drew up this list for Nightstalkers. It's probably not great, but its mostly just a monster mash list, designed to keep model/unit count low so I can get my feet wet with the system.
>Portal of Dispair
No units have upgrades or magic items, as I'm not sure what's good.
I'm a little worried about the lack of inspiring, but Nightstalkers don't seem to have much access to that rule anyway, so there's not muh to be done about the matter.
The monsters and heroes are mostly just slapped together and I'm totally open to suggestions on replacements for them, so long as you keep small model count in mind..
>I'm a little worried about the lack of inspiring
Nightstalkers get inspired by enemy sources of inspiring within 12", so you'll be right
probably read your own army special rules hey
>KoW mediafire guy here
>I see you switched over to a mega archive
Coincidences. I normally don't make the threads, but it was dead. I could have dug up the old links but the archive was being fussy, and I realized I hadn't made a KoW folder on my own Mega backups. So I said fuck it, got that uploaded, then just pasted the folder link because the archive was being unresponsive and I was impatient.
There's a FLGS near me that has them slightly below RRP, but these prices are just from the Reaper website- it displays in AUD and you can spend $100 AU to get free worldwide shipping.
Ezekiel is cool. A zookeeper and amateur Shakespearean actor, he saved a tiger that he'd taken car of it's whole life efter the zombi apocalypse. He starts calling himself king and everybody goes along with it cause he's got a mother fucking tiger, and is able to keep a little group of survivors alive
I've never fought a list like it, and it looks scary, but I'd definitely give it a few tries.
All I ask is that it be called the Sacred Flying Circus.
Which Reaper figs are you intending to use? Can you link to the figures on their site?
Probably get the official Samacris from Mantic, and maybe some of the other, non-bones angels to mix it up a little, but those ones are the core of it.
>No units have upgrades or magic items, as I'm not sure what's good.
Not many people have experience with Night Stalkers. They're definitely the most unique army Mantic have offered so far.
I really want to try out a portal of despair.
Any ideas on how to build an Ironleaf Kin list? I've got a lot of Retribution models to use and no one around here plays Warmachine any more.
I've never played Kings of War before but they seem cool.
Ironleaves never got much playtesting. If it's like any other Kings of War army though you can take any old assortment of units and still do alright with it if you have a couple of inspiring units.
If you think about it KoW actually makes much more sense at a smaller scale as you don't actually need individual models. The only reason that it's 28mm is to be able to sell WHFB proxies and charge a higher price.v Rules wise it's a waste of space to play this at anything larger than 15mm.
I'd like to start KoW with Orcs.
I'm planning to get the Orc Army and I have some leftover Orcs from one of the whfb starter boxes to make 2 troops of Skulks, two Flaggers and one War Drum.
This will give me:
Regiment of Ax (20) - 125
Regiment of Greatax (20) - 145
Regiment of Gore Riders (10) - 185
-Caterpillar Potion - 20
Troop of Skulks(10) - 75
Regiment of Gore Chariots (3) - 140
Krudger on Gore - 130
- Gore for the Krudger - 20
Flagger - 50
War Drum - 80
Any recommendations for the last 30 points?
What units should I get after the first few games? I'd like one more regiment of Gore Riders because they are cool, one regiment of Morax and one regiment of Ax to make a Horde.
What are good Models for the Krudger on Winged Slasher? Do I have to shell out 50+ € for a GW model?
Any recommendations for the General?
Basically yes. Guys in my meta seem to really like stationary guns and shooting.
Any other thoughts on this before I buy a bunch of dudes? Are there better units than Rangers I should be looking at?
Someday I'd like to see a battle of a scale like this with KoW rules, however with better tactics.
It'd probably be possible to complete in a day or two.
Played the first six scenarios with two different groups. Both seemed to like, one group having never played any sort of board game less mainstream then Risk. I've been told it is a lot like Descent, though I've never played that one, if that helps.

Some anons in the last topic were saying Mantic said somewhere they were working on a skirmish rule set for Kings of War, but I haven't been able to find it anywhere. Not sure if they meant more like Mordheim or more for city and siege fighting though.
Two new free agents for this season of Dreadball were revealed today. Also sounds like there will be two special court rules for two new planets. Only ever played it with a standard court and ref myself, but my play group is thinking of doing a league.
So does anyone play Dungeon Saga? I had a couple of rounds with it and felt it was very good. I particularly like how resilient skeletons and other undead are in that you have to hit them good and proper to have an effect.
Compare it to the resilience of the terminators in that recent terminator game and we see a much better method for dealing with enemies that are extra tough and likely to get back up again after you strike them down.
I thought the hero models were awful though and immediatly replaced the dwarf with Drong the Hard, the Barbarian with a Slayer dwarf, the wizard with a bright wizard and the ranger with a waywatcher. Better visualization improved enjoyment immediately.
I always loved the idea of herohammer, at least in the sense that it posits heroes as isolated, pivotal figures amongst greater armies. One or two in an army is enough and I'd stop there. It lends a mythic quality to the games where, as with great battles of classical myth, the key factors are which heroes were there on what side and what they did. Achilles, Hector, Ajax, ect. Its great if you're ready to invest a lot of thought into your heroes.
I can't speak to how it plays though; I am less interested in that than the mythic quality.
I just mean in terms of balance- if games are confined, and based mostly around smaller units, heroes are going to be worth more, because they are a lot of strength for not a lot of frontage. Stuff like Vampires on Dragons, Elf Kings, would be near impossible to stop.
They have metal alternate sculpts of the heroes, as seen here.
I've been playing it with two different groups and so far have really enjoyed it. With the Adventurer's Companion it also has rules for making your own heroes that you can customize through leveling if you're looking to make your party your own.
So are Dwarves a problem army? Everyone in my area hates them and says their shooting and Def 6 is bullshit. I assume this is probably because the Dwarf players around here are all tryhards
Dwarves are slow and that is a disadvantage against fast attack units and maneuvering. Also if they're going ranged heavy some cav and fast units should be brought in. They just need to get gud
What do you know? There is a bit of fan art after all.
Dwarfs are weak against fast armies, like Forces of Nature and Nightstalkers. They tend to be unit light and rely heavily on shooting, so if you get in close fast you can just beat them down.
Got about 2000 points of unassembled Skaven for $50 when the Age of Sigmar rule pdfs were released from a guy quitting GW products over it. Finally getting around to assembling them as a Ratkin army in the last few weeks. Almost all of the infantry is clan rats and plague monks, so still debating what I should do for other infantry options model-wise, but I figure getting all this other stuff together will take a while so I'm in no hurry.
>So are Dwarves a problem army? Everyone in my area hates them and says their shooting and Def 6 is bullshit. I assume this is probably because the Dwarf players around here are all tryhards
You kidding me? Dwarves are pretty underplayed and did terrible in the tourney.
Gunlines are really inefficient in this for point cost. First off: Don't have an army of nothing but low nerve that can't take one volley. Save those for actual chaff. Secondly: Actual chaff. Use it. Same with sponges. Most of the "problems" people have with this game stem from them not realizing they need to use some unit they're ignoring. There's actually no useless/weak units in this, low De units waste high CS and vice versa.
Slow armies are weak: Exploit the shit out of pre-measuring and charge ranges. Anything but Undead runs circles around Dwarves, you should be able to always get the first charge. Dwarf actually have really good cavalry which is their one exception in this regard.
De 6 isn't hard to counter, especially against slower armies, I'm guessing the tryhards are doing a decent job using earth elementals to screen? Flying and nimble units can skip the bullshit and get right to the sweet meats of their formation. Just don't rely too heavily on ranged (war machines) with piercing to directly counter high De units. Otherwise anti-armor is generally both cheaper and faster than De 6, the not-dwarves are not good enough at deployment or maneuvering.
Don't forget to take allies to fill roles.
You could just build movement trays with round slots. Then you wouldn't need to rebase your Retribution models and could just use them as Ironleaves.
And here's the alternate metal sculpt of Mortibras, the boss of the base game. This one is one of their Mantic points exclusive guys.
My crazy box just came in today. I only ordered the sci-fi box, but here's what I got.
2 asterian weapon drones and 3 Cyphers
Orx and human Dreadball starter teams
Mars Attack Human Truck
10 Corporate Marines
Forge Father Flak Gun
Mars Attack zookeeper with shotgun and gorilla
Mars Attack Martian with flag
LOKA Undead chess team
Dreadball - Anne Marie Helder MVP
Dreadball - Ludwig
4 building frames.
Some nice stuff, but I already had most of this stuff already
My Seaguard based Elf force has been struggling against them. 3 losses, 1 win, 1 draw. Those same Elves utterly minced a Ratkin army in the only other game I've played with them. They don't seem to be an insurmountable challenge though. Some cavalry or flyers to threaten their shooters or a war machine to shoot back should manage their mischief pretty easily.
Only their elites get Def 6+ anyway and they don't actually hit hard at all.
>Bretonnian bataillon I got for 60% off
>Huge undead army made up of loads of GW bitz and WGF sprues
>Filling regiment and horde choices for my KoM army with a lot of Perry
Too much work too little time
I need a large number of humanoid bones in an assortment of types. Needs to be easy to separate bones or otherwise already loose, not like the Mantic skeletons which are very solid pieces with lots of armor.
What options are there?
.... this reminds me of trying to find stuff for the original XBOX when the Xbox One came out. Now you can't find shit for the original XBOX because of the word pollution.
Loose internal skeleton bits. Not reaper minis.
'Cos in Kings of War block formations battle, geddit?
