you act as if your actions have any meaning
so what if you have deciphered some of its workings
this knowledge is of no worth
the only thing that will help is finding that which knows no boundary
and removing it
>Branches known thus far:
>Game production blog:
Still holed up in my sister's room, the four of us try our best to work out the details of what we know about Faceless's Branch. And while were busy with that, Allison doesn't budge from her place in front of her closet's door as if she's guarding its contents.
I'm trying not to think about what's in there.
"So you're saying that this guy can walk into a wall and come out somewhere else?" Allison asks.
"Apparently so," Irene replies with a heavy sigh. "I'm already dreading telling the others that their assumptions of his Branch were completely wrong..."
"That's no surprise," Charlotte says. "Sometimes it seems like that's all your people know how to do."
"Well excuse me if I-" Irene glances at Allison and stops herself. "Excuse me."
"Umm, it's okay?"
And now Allison seems even more uneasy than she was before.
>scold the charlotte for being a jerk
>explain to the allison that charlott haet tree of life
>time to stop imposing on the allison
Better try and deal with this somehow before Allison gets pissed at all of us...
"Sorry," I say, turning to her, "The people that Irene works for don't exactly get along with Charlotte's father and..."
"Oh," Allison nods. "Okay, that makes sense enough."
Then she turns to Irene and Charlotte, who are busy angrily glaring at each other.
"But if they don't want me throwing them the hell out of my room right this instant," Allison says, raising her voice, "I suggest that they stow it until later."
"Er-" Irene stammers. "Sorry, Allison," she says, lowering her head.
As expected, it takes Charlotte a lot longer to apologize for starting stuff. Again.
"If I knew a bunch of lesbos were gonna barge in my room and start fighting, I woulda bought a friggin' webcam," Allison mutters under her breath.
I choose to ignore that statement.
"So, umm..." Irene clears her throat, "...we know a little more about Faceless's Branch. Where so we go from here?"
"Don't your people have some kind of protocol for this?" Charlotte snaps back. "Or is this another area wher-"
Seeing that -I'm- also less than thrilled with the way that she's acting, Charlotte shrinks back like a puppy who's just been scolded.
"Sorry," she mumbles with none of her usual confidence.
Aaaand now the rest of them are staring at me too. Just great.
>let's check the card and trying to work things out from there
>let's go over his past actions and trying to figure out his usual pattern
Not voting, just giving thoughts.
Seems that the fact he's specifically sticking around is horribly different than what he's used to. It is bizarre that someone whose branch is best at bullshit getaways is trying to go for some harassment strategy. The winning strategy would be to simply try to predict what spots he'll attack next and divide up for ambushes.
On the other hand, the cards generally haven't been too informative aside from affirming that "Hey, i'm the prick who fucked your house up!"
The subtext said that we cleared his name of something, but I'd only think that perhaps the mafia had some shit with him that we unintentional cleared or to Qlipoth. Or if we're going with Occam's Razor it could just be him baiting Theresa for having a similar costume and allowing him to skirt away from his most recent robbing quite handily.
"Theresa?" I call out, trying to get at least -some- of the attention off of me.
"Eh!?" Theresa flinches. "Uh, what's up?"
"That card that Faceless left in my room," I say, "do you still have it?"
I'm still trying to figure out how he left it without setting off a Synapse with any of the three Branch holders who were around at the time.
"Yeah, it's right here," Theresa says, flipping it around in her fingers like a street performer. "Here you go."
Theresa extends her arm towards me to give the card back, but Allison snatches it from her before I can take it.
"What's this?" she says, holding it in the air.
>might as well clue her into this as well
>snatch it back, we've included her enough in this as it is
...whatever. There's no use in trying to keep her out of the loop at this point, she already knows (almost) everything that's happened with me since getting caught up in Branch stuff.
"Like I said, Faceless left that in my room. We found it this morning."
"Hm," Allison looks it over. "It's a calling card?"
She then takes a few seconds to read the thing out loud. All the random French thrown in for no reason sounds especially cringey when said out loud, especially since Allison's taking the extra effort to say it with the right accent and all that. And once she's done, she continues staring at it like she's unsure what she just read.
"What the hell IS this?" she asks, her face twisted into a painful-looking grimace. "It's like bad teenage roleplay."
"I know, right?" Theresa sighs.
>I dunno if you're one to talk...
>"It’s like an extra-cheesy version of Theresa."
>"I’m glad you are not *that* bad."
I remember talking about likely next targets for the thief. So far I still only come up with Charlotte’s animals. Any other ideas?
(I still think we should not leave the animals alone. Charlotte would be devastated if someone took her feathery friends.)
Content of the card, for those who don't feel like searching for it on the archive.
>Pardonnez-moi for rousing you from your slumber, oh lovely maiden. It was not my intent to ruin your night.
>Though I had originally meant to simply leave a word of thanks for your assistance in clearing my name, the revelation of your identity caused me some concern.
>But as I am not a man of violence, I have opted to instead take my vengeance in a manner befitting of one such as myself.
>And as I have succeeded in this, I shan't be bothering you again.
>After my business with my other targets in this city has been finished, ma revanche will be met upon Mlle Gauthier as well. You may consider this warning as a professional courtesy
Seriously, it's like he's an extra-cheesy version of Theresa.
...not that I'm about to say that out loud, of course. I know better than that.
"At least it's a thief this time instead of a psycho killer," Allison sighs.
"Assuming that he isn't both," Charlotte says.
"...thanks for that extra worry," she mumbles.
"Anyways," Allison says, "if we're gonna believe what that card says, he's not gonna bother you again?"
"Apparently," I reply. "Assuming that he's not lying."
"Shit, you have a point there," she groans. "For all we know, he left this here to throw you off-guard."
"I dunno about that," Theresa chimes in.
And suddenly all eyes are on her.
"There's no point in leaving a card if you're just gonna lie, right?" Theresa says, shrugging. "That goes against the whole idea of a kaitou."
"Kite?" Allison squints.
"Er, of a masked thief," she says, smiling nervously.
>let's take theresa's word for it
>charlotte's right, we shouldn't necessarily believe what he says
>>let's take theresa's word for it
She’s the expert.
Still, why would he go after us and not the others? Even if he is done with CC, he might still have Charlotte and IRene on his list.
"You're the expert here," I say to Theresa. "so I guess I'll take your word for it."
"Very funny," she grumbles.
Both Allison and Irene seem to be kind of confused about this, but they quickly shake it off.
"So you're gonna take the masked kleptomaniac at his word," Allison says. "Okay, sure."
"To be fair, none of the cards he's left his victims before have been lies," Irene says, patting Theresa on the back.
that could be you
"What else did he say..." Allison looks up at the ceiling. "He took vengeance on you?"
"Yeah," I nod, looking on the card.
"Revenge for what, though?" she asks. "It can't be because of the arson thing, he's the one who showed up on his own there."
>I might have an idea...
>ma revanche will be met upon Mlle Gauthier as well.
We should do something about this. All of Charlotte’s belongings are unprotected. Her most treasured belongings are her animals and it would be pretty trivial to take the injured bird and run through a wall before the tiger gets him.
Wouldn’t Charlotte have mentioned if she was connected to the arsonist?
"I have an idea..." I say, scratching my head.
"Mind sharing?" Allison asks.
"Maybe it's because I'm connected to Charlotte?" I say. "The card did say that 'Mlle. Gauthier' is his next target."
"......" Charlotte looks down at the floor.
"I- it's not like I'm trying to blame you for this!" I blurt out as I take her hand. "Nobody's to blame for this but him!"
"Thanks..." she mumbles.
Speaking of which, the idea of Charlotte being Faceless's next target is still worrying me. Everything that she has is totally unprotected and the most important things to her are her animals... and judging from how she flipped out and turned into a literal monster the last time something happened to them, I very much doubt that she'd take it very well if he tried something there.
>tell the charlotte to have gabrielle look after her animals now
>put that off until this round of deductions is over
"But since he -did- say that he's gonna target you next, maybe you should call Gabrielle and have her watch your animals while you're gone," I say.
"......" Charlotte's eyes grow wide and it's like her hair gains twice the volume it usually has. "If that man even tries to-"
"H- hey, calm down!" Theresa says, throwing up her hands. "Nothing's happened to them so far, right?"
"No," she shakes her head. "Rhaccy's right outside," she points out the window, "and both Milla and Loki are back at the hotel."
"Then there's no reason to panic, right?" she says with an uneasy smile. "Cecile's just saying that you should be prepared!"
After another long pause, Charlotte hurries out of the room with her phone in hand. And once she's gone, Irene breathes a long sigh of relief.
"You actually think that this guy would steal one of her animals?" Allison asks, turning to me.
"He stole my cactus," I reply. "I'm not putting anything past that asshole."
Good point," she nods.
That good old feeling of anger wells back up as I give the card another look.
"After my business with my other targets..." I read out loud.
"Oh yeah," Theresa says. "He did say that."
"So what," Allison says, "So Charlotte's gonna be his last stop?"
"According to this at least," I reply.
"But we don't know how many places he'll be hitting before he gets to her. Does he have a set time when he does this?" I ask, turning to Irene. "Or does he does this crap all day, or..."
"All his targets have been hit at night," Irene replies. "As far as we know, anyways."
"The sun was down when I ran into him that time, too," Theresa says.
Well there we go.
"I could go snooping around before it gets dark," Theresa shrugs. "Maybe try and see if someone's gotten a card from him."
>yeah, let's go with that
>no, that's too risky
>>yeah, let's go with that
So… what is the mother doing during all this time? The father has been mentioned a few times, but I don’t recall the mother reacting to the cactus theft.
>Would it be incest if Irene and Katrine dated?
Irene is Katrine's legal sister and they share the same DNA
and everything elseso yes?
>So… what is the mother doing during all this time? The father has been mentioned a few times, but I don’t recall the mother reacting to the cactus theft.
She was actually in the room when Cecile was eavesdropping
and would have been the one to come out and catch her had you guys opted to stay there.
"Sounds like as good an idea as anything else," I say. "Do you have any leads?"
"There're a few that I can think of off the top of my head," Theresa replies.
"Wait wait wait." Allison holds out her hands. "-You- are gonna go around snooping?" she asks. "Like, 'breaking and entering' snooping?"
"I don't really feel comfortable with that either," Irene says.
As she realizes that she just said that in front of two people who -aren't- in on her whole kite dressup game, Theresa bites her lip and takers a deep breath.
"You don't have to worry about me," Theresa says to them. "I can go invisible, remember?"
"Yeah," Irene replies, "but it's still dangerous to go sneaking around places where you're not supposed to be."
"For fuckin' real," Allison say,s rolling her eyes. "You can leave fingerprints or DNA evidence or get trapped somewhere with no way to get out..."
"She's right," Irene nods.
What a time for them to get all reasonable on us.
>back the theresa up
>you're by yourself this time, buddy
>Theresa has thought this through a lot. If she thinks she can search around safely, I trust here.
>"But remember, if you do get in trouble you absolutely must ask us to help! Don’t hesitate!"
Since I'm the only one here who knows Theresa's deal, I guess it's up to me to defend her here. And there's also the fact that she's my friend. Can't forget that.
"Theresa's the one who suggested this so I'm sure she's thought it through," I say. "So as long as she thinks that she'll be able to search around safely, I'm gonna trust her judgement."
"...fine," Allison groans, "it's not like you're gonna listen to me anyways."
Not that she's wrong about that.
"If you absolutely insist," Irene says, "I guess I can't stop you. Just be careful, okay?"
"Will do," Theresa replies. "And now that I have your blessing, I guess I should quit wasting daylight and get changed..."
And with that, Theresa makes her way towards the door so she can leave.
"You interested in coming along if I do find out where he's gonna be?" she whispers to me as she walks past.
Fortunately, it doesn't look like Theresa -or- Allison heard her say that just now.
>how do I respond?
while I do enjoy this quest, I agree with >>45005324, the last 2-3 threads have enough content to make one thread that I would consider satisfying.
I suppose it's what you got when the QM is a schedule-challenged turtle who's wrighting a VN on the side
>NEVER LEAVE YOUR BATTLE BUDDY BEHIND!
SIR YES SIR!
>We basically just figured if he goes out at night we should look for clues and while we send our Yandere after her animals.
Still means that we can finally move from this scene.
im sry for slowness

I'll try and start earlier next time, maybe that'll help.
And now it is time for me to sleep. Thanks for playing!
