Am I the only person that thinks that a Sonic OC campaign would be an amazing idea?
Just imagine: everyone can design their own hedgehog, or echidna/fox whatever. They would be required to draw a pic of their character (or custom color-ins with official artwork.) The character can be based on themselves (ex. "Adam the hedgehog") or totally oc
As for the bosses, I havent decided. Eggman already has enough trouble battling 3 characters, it might be going overboard to have one man battle six different new hedgehogs.
Basically, the idea I have for it is that there are a bunch of different hedgehogs on a different side of Mobius. Eggman (or whoever the villain is) does something wrong, and Sonic is nowhere to be found, so the characters embark on a quest to stop him. Sonic may make a cameo appearance later in the story, but he wouldn't be the focus of the story.
Wouldn't that be a cool idea?
>Am I the only person that thinks that a Sonic OC campaign would be an amazing idea?
No, there are thousands of people in the US that live with Autism, some even as severe as yours.
>They would be required to draw a pic of their character (or custom color-ins with official artwork.) The character can be based on themselves (ex. "Adam the hedgehog") or totally oc
No. The official rules should be that you're only allowed to google or browse deviantart for your picture, and it HAS to share your name.
Yes, this sounds cool and light-hearted.
Anyone who likes sonic and fun would agree.
That said the response to this in thread is always going to be non-sonic fans looking in at the tainted horror that is the sonic fandom and then 360 moonwalking away.
You'd have to either 1: Play with people who think it's a good idea 2: Make it not Sonic, but generic anthropomorphic animals.
Honestly, if you had approached me back before the Archie comic run had hit 50, I might have been interested. But the Sonic fandom is overrun with legitimate autism and make even furries look bad. They vastly overwhelm anything positive that had come out of the fandom, which is a shame. Why do you even want to make this in the Sonic Universe, especially with what will likely be overpowered self-insert characters?
Only if it's an all out brawl to determine who is really the greatest hedgehog of them all/Sonic's true son
Like that one time they put 3 different guys who all believed they were the 2nd coming of Christ in a room together so they could settle which one was Jesus
>especially with what will likely be overpowered self-insert characters
that's another thing that is tricking me up: everyone would need a final Super form.
I can already imagine the final quest of this campaign. It would be like DBZ times 100
Just make it a Freedom Planet campaign then.
It could be done well, like any other concept.
The only problem is that the sort of people it's likely to attract if not run between friends you already know are a good group would be the worst sort of gamers to group with.
TLRD: if you're going to do it between existing friends, it could be done well, but for the love of god don't do it on roll20 or a gamefinder thread.
Exactly what this anon >>44965160 said, but because I'm not a negative nancy and veloce that everything can be made into something good I'll work with your idea OP
First things first, this is not a Sonic game now , this is now Freedom Planet game, or just simply not!Mobius, which is pretty much opens us up to "cartoony anthropomorphic animals of unnatural colors going on action filled adventure of fighting evil lizards and robots". Pretty much exactly what Sonic OC game is but without most of bad fame.
Next up - more exaggerations and less "realism", Sonic running fast, Knuckles gliding in air, Tails flying with his tails and Cream flying with her ears are all very cartoony things that should stay that way. Avoid too serious and in depth explanations for things
Add a lot of humor and lightness to the stories without forgetting dark and sad stuff of course, but make it more contextual rather than aesthetic (don't talk about how dark and edgy things are, just lay out the facts and let the players make their own judgments on the situation)
I ran a game like that before actually. Its not a bad idea and can be rather cool if done correctly. More so if you base things off the comic books (By Ian Flynn, fuck penders)
I even had people look up their characters with Deviantart. It all works. Far as system, I'd suggest Savage Worlds. Has most of what you'd need. And its not a serious game considering how you gen characters...so just have fun with it, its honestly possible to be cool as long as the people going in are ready to play as Tidus and not Lightning.
Next up - powers and power levels
I'd say drop the dbz idea and in general make powers more imaginative rather then "super strength", "Magic lasers " and "shooting fire "
Do more stuff like Walking on walls, Grappling hooks, Some very specific way of flying, Ground digging, different ways of dashing etc
>Am I the only person that thinks that a Sonic OC campaign would be an amazing idea?
No, I'm sorry to say. Please gather up all your like minded kin and go play your game in the nearest containment zone.
Sometimes even bait is better than nothing
I hope everything you know and love runs into a pool of water, for you to watch it disappear in a flash of golden rings.
Sonic games can still be good anon, especially if you ignore the fanbase.
You just need to find the right games, like Generations,
Freedom Planet, and to some people lost world or Sonic 06 because you can make fun of 06 (Albeit 06 isn't so much a dead horse as a puddle).
It's old news, Anon. I'll try to give you a quick summary.
Sonic Boom comes out. Chris-chan's autism is triggered by it because Sonic's arms are not blue, apparently. Everyone kept telling him he was being silly, but things just continued to escalate in his own head.
He started a protest 'movement' to boycott Sonic Boom, and it eventually accumulated to the point where Chris started defacing Sonic Boom merchandise in Gamestop stores. He was banned, but he came back anyway to continue his 'protest'.
He fled the store when confronted by Gamestop employees, and pepper sprayed one of them on the way out. After being sued by said employee, it took nearly a year for the case to be settled with Chris getting away once again.
The aftermath is that Sonic Boom is still around and Chris's protests ultimately changed nothing, except getting him permanently banned from all Gamestop stores state wide.
damn...can't unsee...and to think these kids were just making hedgehogs for the fun of it this whole time
I think the trick to this game is to have fun. No seriousness whatsoever, like the slapstick sonic cartoons/comics or Sonic OVA. Even during the serious moments, have that Saturday morning feel to it so it feels engaging rather than demanding.
The moment things get serious is the moment things get weird for everyone.
A full tongue in cheek sonic game seems fun.
Like knowing you're doing all the stupid autistic shit that sonic fandom is known for but just going as far as you can with it.
Everyone's OC is some type of ridiculous mary sue and each session they just get worse and worse until we have a party of unholy abominations that not even Chris-chan could compare too.
i laughed at this thread and then i realised i actually participated in this
i'm a fucking moron
granted the objective was to make as many shitty fanfiction tropes as possible into a setting, but still
we ended up crossing it over with world of warcraft because ???????
Surely, this is bait?
I mean, it could work. Anything could work with the right group; a campaign about fiends from Baator taking a wrong turn and landing in Sesame Street could work. But your tone assures me that you're joking.
Alright I'll admit: it is a combination of joking and seriousness. It it happened and it worked in the way >>44966159 describes, it would be really fun.
But, the year unfortunately is not 1993. It's 2016, and a lot of things with the Sonic fanbase have changed radically. I am very aware of the current Sonic fanbase. But if you had a group of people with the 90's mindset of Sonic, it would be fantastic.
You can thank Rouge the Bat for awakening the sex drive of Sonic fans (assuming Amy didn't do that already).
You can also thank Shadow for EVERYTHING ELSE.
Yeah, SA2 was the tipping point for the Sonic fanbase. Personally I see no problem with the game by itself, in fact I feel that it is the best 3D Sonic (which isnt saying much, but still). I dont think it was the game's fault alone for triggering the fans, but instead the fanbase is a natural result of the game. Kind of like what is currently happening to Undertale, but that is a totally different topic.
Also, many will disagree with me on this but I love the art style, it is very jazzy, like the music.
>You can also thank Shadow for EVERYTHING ELSE.
Shadow was cool until Sonic Heroes. That game totally fucked with his character, making him an edgy clone of a clone of a clone, etc. The real shadow had reasons to be on edge.
>(assuming Amy didn't do that already).
She didn't. Before the Adventure games she was just a cute girl.
This is actually pretty good. No "charging power levels" shit, just niche powers that give them a leg up one way or another.
what immense cancer
go kill yourself furfaggot. a sonic oc campaign is the worst idea i've heard all day, and i work with people who should be locked up for sheer stupidity.
everything about the sonic franchise after adventure is cancer, barring exceptions like the boom cartoon and generations and sonic oc's are litterally the worst thing on the internet. and i've seen 2 girls 1 cup, goatse, and blue waffles
