/tg/, how can I justify the pope secretly being a violent rogue, and joining the party to steal valuable art out of mosques in a modern day setting?
Also, cool ideas for NPC's thread I guess
I already did it, but my players really want an explanation for why it's happening. The campaign has been pretty normal until now.
That's exactly what they're stealing. The soul of the demon Mohammometh is located in five specific tiles in the five biggest mosques in the world. The players seek to acquire his soul.
Just any random art from a mosque is a bit of a stretch, but rule of cool and some extra justification (relics, a specific slight, etc.) should see you through.
As for the rogue bit, the criminal who found god and reformed is an age-old character, and some of the countries with the highest catholic populations in the world are pretty damn violent and/or known for their criminals - Mexico, Brazil, Italy, Poland, Columbia, so it wouldn't exactly be hard to find someone with a roguish background who found religion - if they rose in the church in a troubled area they might well maintain their connections up to cardinalhood, and even use them to become prominent.
All while doing the Lord's work, of course
This is the best option.
It was all a con job. A con job that he conned so hard he became a priest then a bishop then a cardinal and then the pope, and by then he felt bad about letting people down.
Yeah, posted while I was writing/checking wikipedia for catholic populations.
Ironically the Vatican City, by raw numbers, has the 7th lowest catholic population on earth, due to only having 842 people living there (it is, naturally, 100% catholic)
He actually isn't the pope. He's a satanist who's set out to dismantle the vatican by impersonating the pope while doing increasongly repulsive acts. The real pope is in a warehouse somewhere being tortured by satanists.
He's a fundamentalist who's trying to take the church back to its medieval roots, I guess?
I mean, monks went around robbing churches all the fucking time back then and most popes were willing to suit up and lay the smack down as well.
You can justify the Pope going around Muslim countries as part of some "Holy Co-operation Initiative" or some similar bullshit. He could set up meetings with the Imams of the mosques your party are hitting to create openings.
Also, if your GM is a cool dude, there will be at least one car chase involving the Popemobile .
Assuming someone satisfied your Rogue Pope Question.Evil Dwarf Mage who can Cast a Spell that can change a person's alignment. 1-2 is Lawful good, 3-4 is Neutral good, so on and so forth until 19-20 which makes you roll again. You either extract info out of him later or go to the other side of the continent for the cure. Your memories and what other people think of you stay the same until you act otherwise. Your Impulses are different though and feel more devoted to other things.
>a retired ratzinger finds his youth again thanks to magic and joins a party of adventurers to save the world from an evil muslim demon
sign me up
Ratzinger is a cyborg, but he's kinda halfway a failure as he quit before he could become a demon for good.
>how can I justify the pope secretly being a violent rogue, and joining the party to steal valuable art out of mosques in a modern day setting?
>The Pope is Irish
>He spent his late childhood and early teens in Whitechapel, London
"And the LORD sayeth upon the people of Israel.... ah, FECK it, I'm too drunk ta tern ye other cheek! GET REKT PAKIS!"
originally the skills of a rough childhood came in handy when working his way up the ladder of the church. now he's effectively reached the top, it turns out the church runs itself and the job is boring. this is his extended vacation.
Only thing I know about Jesuits is that when my mom was in the military, some Jesuit in Honduras who was friends with the reds passed information to a Cuban hit team to kill my mom who was doing MP/Heart+Minds work down there. Apparently her CO found out so they transferred her out to avoid more issue.
if he's a Slav like in the picture than Rogue is they're racial preferred class
he could have leveled in Rogue before going into priesthood or always was one and was stealing/backstabing his way into the position
>how can I justify the pope secretly being a violent rogue
Its not without precedent
i bet someone already did that
unfortunately i don't have it ;/
