“Rhys!” Jennis D’Leer the Zygerrian scavver addresses you over the holocomms. “Nice to see that y’all and yours are doin’ spiffy! I’m due in Coru-scant in ‘bout a couple hours. Once I’m landed, y’all give me a looksee, alright?”

You nod, smiling to her. “Thanks, Jennis. I’m sorry that I’m making you run around the Galaxy like this.”

“Ah, pish posh!” She waves it off, smirking. “Y’all are basically the only customers I’ve had in a long long while so y’all are just keeping me quite well-fed.” She pats her belly, smiling. “Can’t wait to see y’all in the big city down there, I got some new wares for y’all. I’m surprised more people don’t subscribe to my better products you know? I guess the Zygerrian thing is real hard to shake off.”

You shrug. “Some people just can’t see past species.”

“I know, the notion that all of us are slavers absolutely riles me up!” She huffs, rolling her eyes and shaking her head. “Tell you what though, when I land and you come on by, I’ll treat ya with a little bit of Zygerrian hospitality. Yes, it does involve a lot of gravy, you put gravy on everything, ya know?” Her holopad beeps, and she looks down at it. “Agh, dang it. I need to get back to the cockpit, but I’ll see ya soon, Rhys.” Her image disappears, the call over.

Always an interesting thing talking with Zygerrians. And people say you have an accent.

For now though, you were 40k credits up. Potentially 100k if you were ever to take that job with the Zann Consortium. You’re not looking to just yet, but it is a tempting prospect. Especially if you were to get those ingots for market value. That much money, you could retire quietly to a planet way out of the way, buy yourself a nice airspeeder, find a sweetheart to have kids with, the good life. You sigh a little as you step down the boarding ramp of the Lion’s Share. Not from bliss mind you though.

Last night, you had a nightmare. You despise nightmares. Not because they’re scary, but because it’s hard enough for you to fall asleep in the first place. Mustering the energy you need for day to day operations is a simple thing, but when you’re tired, you are absolutely tired. Thankfully, for now, it seems you’ve at least got your bearings straight. You look around and see the garage where Misri busily polishes R5’s hull. “Hey, Misri,” you say. “Seen Kuvasz and Vik?”

She looks up at you, then nods. “Yeah, they went down to a shop to buy some supplies.” Fair enough, you were getting short on rations. But on closer examination, you note that Misri seems a little distressed. However, she’s the first to ask you something. “Did you have a nightmare?”

Ooo…kay. Weird question. “Maybe,” you say. “Why?”

“I had one too,” she shrugs. “Weird you know, I was in a TIE Fighter and then there was this thing with you and Lotte.” … okay, this is getting weird. But judging by your expression, Misri seems to agree. “Yeah, I’ll stop talking.”

“It’s fine,” you reassure. “Look, I get my nightmares occasionally, sometimes I remember something I shouldn’t have. And besides, Misri, I don’t think you’re ready for a TIE Fighter. You need more time in the Spearhead.”

She blushes, gasping. “Y- You-… what!? I-“ What you’re referring to is the fact that you caught onto Misri sneaking into your R-22 when you’re sleeping and playing around in it like she was the next Imperial Starfighter ace. Absolutely childish and adorable for someone her age. You didn’t tell her that of course, or that you knew this was going on for the past month or so.

“I have cameras,” you smirk. She remains quiet, twiddling her fingers. “Nice sound effects by the way, and I do want to hear what happens to Captain-“

“Shut up.” She mutters, turning back to clean R5.

“Well if you want me to teach you, I got some time before Jennis gets here,” you say.

She scoffs. “Feh! Why would I want to learn how to fly a Starfighter, stupid, stupid…” Ah, she’s a little mad that you teased her. Fine, fine. You cross your arm, giving her a proud smile. She looks back, then rolls her head and pats R5. “We’ll do this another time, R5.”

“Hey, you can’t just leave me like this. I’ll look like I had a poor sunburn,” he says.

But too late, Misri stands and looks at you. “Fine. What do you have to teach me, old man?” She jabs you in the chest, looking at you defiantly. You and Misri walk over to the cargo bay, then are elevated up into it by Lev standing at the controls. There inside the cargo bay is the R-22, next to a napping Sparks. “Just saying you know.” She hops up onto the hull, and opens the cockpit. “I happen to be one of the best racers in the galaxy. So er… not much you can teach me, old man.”

“I’ve heard that before,” you say. “But you’d be surprised how many people fail to realize there’s a third dimension to use. Sit down there.” She sits in the cockpit, and you hand her your helmet. “Here, wear this.” She places it on her head. It immediately slumps over her eyes, a bit too big for her. “Wear this too.” You offer her the life support pack and mask.

“What?” She pulls the helmet up a little. “Starfighters these days have plenty of life support, why do I need this?”

“It’s a good habit to have,” you say. “You gotta be ready in case something blows up in your face.” She grumbles a little, strapping the life support harness on. The helmet slumps over her eyes again, and she frustratedly slaps it back up. “Right. First thing’s first. At your feet are the pedals that control yaw direction. The stick there controls your pitch and your roll. The trigger is relatively simple, squeeze it to fire off your laser cannons. And at the top flick that switch and you’re green to fire missiles. Basic stuff.”

She nods, and the helmet slumps over her head again. “I’m sorry, this helmet is way too big.”

“I don’t see how it makes any difference, you being blind and all,” you say.

She sighs. “Okay so…” She looks at all the consoles. “Which thing tells me how fast I’m going?” You point to the dial on the left. “Ah, okay, wizard. So uh…” She looks back up at you. “There’s a lot of dials on this thing, how am I supposed to know which is which in a battle?”

“Instinct,” you say. She nods slowly. “Look, starfighting is a bit more complicated than I can teach in so little time.”

“I guess but… wow.” She seems to have figured out she’s a bit in over her head. “Was flying a TIE Fighter this complicated?”

“Not really,” you boast. She frowns a little. “Just saying, you either got it or you don’t.”

“I got it!” She slaps the stick. She nervously laughs, looking at the dashboard again. “Trust me, Rhys. I’ll have this thing figured out in no time.” The helmet slumps over her head again. “… but first I need a helmet that fits.” And to that, Sparks pats her head with his leg. “Agh, Sparks!” Sparks coos, apparently comforting Misri on her nervousness. “St- stop it!” Misri gently slaps Sparks’ leg away.

> Make it a game, make up a scenario or something for her.

“Hm.” You scratch your chin, thinking. Wait, you got it. In order to encourage education, you have to appeal to her inner child. Implying she’s not but well… “Misri. You’re in command now.”

“What?” She tilts her head. “What are you talking about?”

You slap the hull, looking ahead. “It’s a force of five X-Wing fighters, piloted by the Rebellion’s finest pilots! They dive into two wings, one to hit you from above and another to fix you in place at your level! At your command are two TIE Fighters along with your R-22 that you yourself are flying, what do you do!?”

“Uh-“ She looks around the dashboard.

“Time’s ticking!” you yell.

“I speed up!”

“Why!?” you yell.

“Because if the guys coming at me from above are coming straight at me, they’ll zoom right over me if I keep on my constant course! Any other direction and I remain in their sights longer!” she shouts back.

“Good, good!” You grin. Wow, she actually got that! Not many people understand that in dogfighting, you have to stay out of an enemy’s crosshairs, and that means making them zoom straight over you a lot from angles they can’t effectively engage from. “Sparks, give me some help!” Sparks pops his head up from his hull, then shakes the R-22 with his leg. Misri yelps in in surprise, grabbing the stick. “You’ve taken damage, the power capacitor is shot and you’ve lost some power! You can’t power both the engines and the shields, so which one!?”

“The engines!” she says back. Alright, fair decision. “Where are they!?”

“One is on your tail now! He’s trying to get a lock on you!” you yell. “He’s practically breathing down your neck now!” Sparks slams the hull of the R-22, making it rattle and shaking with Misri still desperately holding on. “He’s fired, but he’s missed! What now!?”

“I get closer!” she yells. What!? “If I get even closer, his wingtip cannons can’t zero in on me! It’s a defect with the early X-Wing models! And if I get closer, I can hit the brakes, he’ll fly on by, and I zap him!”

Her enthusiastic grin slowly fades as you look at her with a stern expression. “D-… am I dead?”

“It’s actually a defect with the Z-95,” you say. “Not the X-Wing.” She frowns deeply, looking down. It’s probably even more devastating to her considering she’s supposed to be the mechanic. “But, your logic is sound.” She looks up. “And you made some pretty good decisions in a random scenario. That’s something you can’t really teach either.” She smiles, reassured of herself. “Listen, next time we’re shopping, I’ll find you some sims so we can get you properly trained up, alright?”

“Alright!” She smiles happily. The helmet slumps over head. “Agh! Can you get me a helmet too?” You nod as your holopad rings.

Coming up on the holopad projector is Madam Horch. She looks at you, frantic. Something the matter. “Rhys! There are Bounty Hunters looking for you on this level!” Oh great. “And they are accompanied by Stormtroopers too! They aren’t at the brothel yet but they’ll be here within minutes!” Oh, frak. “You have to hide! Now!”

“Misri!” You pull her out of the cockpit. Not good, not good, not good.

“Ah! What!?” She yells as you start to push back towards the loading elevator.

“We gotta hide!” You and her jump down the loading elevator. Lev is busy checking over the stores as you run by him. “Lev, watch the ship for us! If anybody asks, you’re the owner of that ship!”

Lev looks at his holopad, then at you as run. “But sir, droids are not permitted to own ships. How would I explain…” You’re already gone. “Damn it.”

-

-

The plan was to head down a few levels and then bribe a guy to tip off the Stormtroopers that you were spotted some dozen levels down. A simple enough prospect. You and Misri hide out in the open air patio of a cantina, keeping a low profile as a few Stormtroopers pass by. One of them browses around the cantina, while the others search and look around the nearby alleys and streets. One of them wearing the command pauldron of a Captain stops on the sidewalk next to the patio and pulls up his holopad. It rings with an incoming message. Coming up on the holoprojector is Lotte. “Captain Katarn, report.”

The Captain nods. “Ma’am. We received word that Rhys Cykgil escaped several levels down. I’m suspecting he may still be around here however.”

“Have you found his ship?” asks Lotte.

“We did, ma’am,” says the Stormtrooper. “I have a team guarding it, it appears that Rhys abandoned it during his escape, his droids are claiming that they own it.”

“Cheeky.” Lotte crosses her arms. “Search the ship if you haven’t already and keep searching. If Rhys wants to play this game, I will play it. He’ll either have to come to your Stormtroopers or yours to him. I want Rhys alive, remember that, Captain Katarn. I need not remind you that you are on your Omega Exercise.”

[1/2]

[2/2]

The Captain sighs. “Noted, -ma’am-,” he says with a hint of venom to it. He shuts the holopad off. A sergeant a few other regular Stormtroopers come up around him. “Sergeant, form teams of two, start sweeping the buildings one by one, don’t leave a stone unturned.” The Sergeant nods, hitting up his comms and walking away. “636, 322, guard the main elevator back up. If you see anyone matching Rhys’ description, stop them. But do not alert them with a loud, ‘Stop’! Nobody ever actually stops when you yell that.” They nod and walk away. “Ugh…”

> Captain Katarn <
> One of Lotte’s cronies <

Misri slowly leans towards you. “They have the ship.”

“They haven’t left with it though,” you say. “Have you heard from Kuvasz and Vikker?” She shakes her head. “Damn it, alright…” You’re out in the open, but so far the Stormtroopers haven’t appeared to notice you, especially in the crowd where you can hide in plain sight. Now what?

You pull up your holopad, then quickly step inside the cantina. It’s crowded thanks to the fact that there’s a grav-ball playoff match on. You never did care for grav-ball anyway, stupid sport. Lotte never made it any easier on you by playing it during Flight School and forcing you to play it as well, even while you were fresh off the flogging post. But that’s in the past. Wait, no, don’t use the holopad, you have a communicator on your wrist. You tap the button. “Kuvasz, Vikker?” you whisper. “Any of you there?”

Some static comes over the channel, then finally Kuvasz speaks. “Rhys. Me and Vikker are hiding across the street from the brothel, what are Stormtroopers doing hanging around it?”

“Long story but Lotte’s finally come around for me,” you say. “Can we meet up? Is it safe over there?”

“Not at the moment,” he says. “They’re sweeping the streets, and they’ve got that Bounty Hunter girl too looking around the brothel.” Damn. “Listen, we’ll meet up at the elevator and we can formulate an escape plan. We’ll come to you.”

“Alright.” You turn your communicator off, just as the crowd cheers for a three point shot to sink through the hoop. A Stormtrooper shoves the crowd, taking a look at everybody, trying to find you. Ugh. Misri waits for you by the entrance, calling over to you quietly. You hurriedly try to push past everyone now.

Suddenly, the Stormtrooper grabs your shoulder. “Rhys!” Oh for frak’s sake. He turns around, and you stare at him through the blackened visor and skeleton white helmet on his head. “You’re under arrest!”

Misri suddenly slides up next to you, then waves her hand. “He’s not under arrest!”

The Stormtrooper stares at you, then at her, then looks at his blaster. “… wh-… what was I doing?” He taps his helmet. “Agh, my head.” A few choice looks around the cantina from patrons inspire the two of you to make a break for it.

You and Misri hurry out the Cantina door and make for the elevator. “That was awesome!” she yells. “I can’t believe that worked!” She looks at her hands. “Wow, this Force thing must be great!”

You pat her on the arm. “Practice makes perfect. But do it where nobody sees you.” She nods, understanding. “You don’t want to know what happens to people who can use the Force.”

“I thought you said the Force was bogus!” she says to you.

“It is bogus, so make sure it stays bogus!” you say back. The two of you keep flitting and scurrying down the street from hiding place to hiding place. Stormtroopers are walking around all over the streets in teams of two, looking and asking people if they’ve seen you. Many haven’t thankfully. You lower your head around a corner and there you do see the elevator. But it is guarded, dang it. “Alright…” You look back at Misri. “Misri, you stay behind me, we’re going to make a run for-“

The elevator doors hiss open. The Stormtroopers guarding the door turn around, and out of it comes Black Swan, backed up by her Bounty Hunter posse, more Stormtroopers, and…

They throw them down to the ground, Kuvasz and Vikker. Ah, for frak’s sake. Kuvasz stands to a kneel. “I may be old, young lady, but you’re gonna need more than some fruity tooty Bounty Hunters to kill me.”

“Ah, shut up, Kuvasz!” yells Vikker. “They got us, accept it! You’re not good at sneaking!”

[1/2]
>>
>>44798854
[2/2]

Black Swan walks past them and looks around the street. “Where are they?” she asks to Kuvasz. The two of them stare at her, obviously not intending on giving you up. Black Swan grabs a blaster pistol out of her holster, then shoots Vikker right in the knee. Vikker screams, falling over on his side, his leg twitching and writhing in pain. The knee lets off some smoke and blood.

You grit your teeth, slapping your hand against the wall. Misri covers her mouth, her breath taken by Black Swan’s ruthlessness. “You fierfeking tailhead!” screams Vikker. “Agh! My knee!”

“I won’t ask again, you two know where he is,” says Black Swan. “Now tell me, or I’ll let my Selkath friend here eat you.”

The Stormtroopers look over at the Selkath. The Selkath grunts. “What? Nothing wrong with a little meat in your diet.”

Agh, you can’t risk it.

Suddenly, far back in the street, you see Captain Katarn backed up by another squad of Stormtroopers. One of them is the Stormtrooper from the cantina, rubbing his helmet and apparently still being a bit scatterbrained. “I- uh… can’t remember.” Katarn keeps his arm wrapped around him. “There was a cantina and uh… something?”

Uh, where to hide, where to hide- DUMPSTERS! You grab Misri and throw her into one. You immediately dive into it as well. The Stormtroopers walk on by, and meet with the Bounty Hunters as well around the corner of the street. “Black Swan.”

“Captain Katarn.” You and Misri slowly raise your heads out of the dumpster, the lid giving you two some cover as well. Some drippings of refuse and gunk drip onto your clothes and heads. She crosses her arms, looking at him up and down. “I see you’ve come back empty handed.”

“And I see you’re already damaging the goods,” he fires back. “Captain Ulgo was very clear not to harm his crew. She’s not in the mood for your… antics,” he says. “Your assassin droid there, that Selkath, and your Trandoshan and Wookiee can kindly leave, the Empire will handle this.”

Black Swan scoffs. “Whatever. What’s up with your Stormtrooper friend there?”

“Scatterbrained by something,” he explains. “You’re probably familiar with that sensation. Anyway, have any of you found him?” They shake their heads. “Fine. Leave it to us then. I don’t know what Captain Ulgo is paying any of you, but clearly she’s not getting enough bang for her buck. 880, cuff them.” A Stormtrooper quickly cuffs Kuvasz, then as well cuffs a wounded struggling Vikker. “We’ll take them aboard the Balmoral.”

[1/2]

Black Swam steps in front of Captain Katarn. “What makes you think you can do that?” The Selkath growls, backing her up. The cloaked assassin droid as well stands next to her. “This is our quarry, not yours.”

Captain Katarn shoves her. “Step aside, tailhead. I’m not afraid of you, or your friends here.”

“You should be,” growls Swan. Captain Katarn immediately slams a button on her life support pack on her chest. “Agh! AAGH!” Swan kneels, gasping and coughing for breath. A loud hissing noise escapes from her mask. He looks over at the Bounty Hunters, who step back out of surprise and fright. Swan reaches out for Katarn, grabbing her support pack. “Agh- y- you-“

Katarn kicks Swan in the head, sending her to the floor. “Get lost.” He motions the Stormtroopers to follow him. “We’ll be telling the Captain you failed and she’s wasting her credits.” The Stormtroopers march on by, leaving the surprised and shocked Bounty Hunters behind. The Trandoshan and the Wookiee kneel down to help Swan recalibrate her life support.

And with that, Kuvasz and Vikker are gone, captured by the Empire.

The Trandoshan squints at you. “What do you have to offer?”

“Creditz,” says the Selkath. “And a zhot at Lotte and that Captain Katarn! No one messes with us! Not even the Empire!”

The Wookiee growls at everyone, pointing at you, then roars a bit more. The Trandoshan translates. “He says that technically Lotte didn’t actually screw us, it was more Captain Katarn. But I agree, credits.”

Black Swan coughs, her life support pack now back in order. “Credits,” she hisses. “You got them?”

“Maybe,” you say. “All depends on if you’re willing to help me save Kuvasz and Vikker.” You point at Black Swan. “By the way, Swan. That was not very nice of you to blast out my friend’s knee like that. People who do that end up dead.” She rolls her eyes beneath her mask. “I’m forgiving you now because I can’t leave half of my crew to the Empire. And I need your help here and now. Yeah, I can give you credits.” But more likely, you’ll probably just give them blaster shots to the back, you don’t actually have credits but they don’t need to know that. “I can give you a bit of revenge too. What do you say?”

They look at each other, then back at you. “What do you have in mind?”

“We’ve got to stow away on their ship while it’s still here. The Balmoral is a new ship, never seen it before, so it has to be undermanned, and it’s probably receiving new supplies and reinforcements right now as we speak. We stow aboard, we find the prison block, and we get my crew out of there,” you say. “Sound good?”

Black Swan crosses her arms. “I’ve heard worse plans.” Sounds good then. You look over at Misri, and she quietly walks over, nervously. She immediately hides behind you all. “This your new comfort girl, Rhys?”

“You might as well get acquainted,” you say. “This is Misri Beryl, my mechanic.” She waves nervously to everyone, grinning.

The Wookiee points to her, loudly screeching. “We recognize her! From the podrace!”

“Oh yeah, uh…”

Kublai immediately slaps her shoulder, grinning. “Nice run out there! Can’t wait to work with you!” The Wookiee snorts, nodding.

> Kublai and MadClaw <
> The Odd Duo <

You point to the Selkath. “That there is Mobul.” The Selkath grunts, baring his teeth at Misri.

> Mobul <
> The Predator of Manaan <

And to the droid. “And that’s Tanner.” The droid beeps, his eyes glowing from beneath the form disguising cloak. “Uh. Yeah, that’s Skinner.” You don’t want to explain why people call him Skinner. It’s a very self-explanatory name.

> Skinner <
> The Assassin Droid <

“And you’re already acquainted with me,” says Black Swan. “What’s our escape plan when we get aboard the Balmoral?”

“My droids can pilot my ship into the Balmoral’s hangars,” you say. “We lockdown all hangars except one, and we shut down the power, we’ll be off scot free. I’ll trust you guys to handle that while I get my guys out of there.” They nod, knowing their roles. They’ll have to decide who handles what though. “We clear?” They all nod. “Great. I already know where to go to stow away.”

All of you remain quiet, nestled in the container being carried by the ISD Balmoral. You had already heard the faint thumps and loud rumbling of the container being loaded in. And then there was the loud blast of the ship entering hyperspace too. You had already contacted Lev to follow the ship to its destination, and await your signal. MadClaw and Kublai had bribed the customs officers (bribed them with life after threatening to kill them), which meant all of you could be stashed onto a “priority freight” container, which aren’t searched and scanned for life forms like the others.

There is the risk of course that you suffocate from lack of air in the darkness. Then you hear footsteps. You hear a metallic release, and suddenly all of you are assaulted by a shining light.

And at the door of the container is a pair of Stormtroopesr. “… what the-“ MadClaw slams them into a container across the way, knocking them out instantly. The rest of you step out into the cold sterile environment of a cargo bay inside of an Imperial Star Destroyer.

You take a sniff. Smells like home. “Alright, I got an idea,” you say. “Misri, you ever wear Stormtrooper armor?”

She looks at you. “Er-“

“Come on, come on, get changed.” She drags the unconscious body of the Stormtrooper into the container. She looks at everybody, blushing a bit.

“Do you all mind?” she asks. They step out, obviously a little annoyed by her requesting privacy in a high tension situation like this. You yourself quickly change between some other containers as well. And in a few short minutes, you’re strapped into some Stormtrooper armor. It’s a slightly loose fit, but overall, you look the part judging by your reflection on the floor. Misri steps out of the container as well.

And wow, she’s way too small to be a Stormtrooper. But, it’s going to look weird traveling alone rather than in a pair. “You look great,” you say. “Don’t worry, I didn’t look.”

She shakes her hips a bit, glaring at you from beneath the helmet. “Sure you didn’t.”

“Ahem.” Black Swan interrupts your friendly flirting session. “We got a job?”

“Swan, take the Selkath and Skinner to the power generator. Kublai, you’ll hit the hangars. Hangar 1 will be our getaway hangar so do not lock that one down. When the power goes out, we won’t able to lift the lockdown.” They nod. “Everyone clear?” They all nod again. “Good, good.” You grab an E-11 off the ground. “Well, off we go then.”

You separate from the Bounty Hunters, and enter a hallway, bustling with activity. Misri stands by your side, scratching at the loose fit of her body glove. “Don’t scratch,” you say.

“But it’s itchy,” she mutters.

The two of you head to the elevator. Prison block should be right where you remember it…

“Troopers!” You and Misri continue on. “Troopers, wait!” You look back to see a… very amazing looking redheaded Imperial Officer. “Where the fierfeking bollocks do you two think ye’s going? Cap’n Ulgo requested a trooper bring her up her Black ale from the hold, and I am assigning you two to take it up to her.”

“Er…” You look at her rank plate, then at her chest, then at her eyes. “… Commander. Me and my squadmate are busy with an assignment, we can’t-“

“Now trooper!” says the Commander sternly. “Chop chop.” She claps her hands. “If Cap’n Ulgo calls me about having no ale, someone’s head is going to roll. And it’s nae gonna be mine.”

>>
> Deliver it together. You can’t leave Misri alone.

You sigh, very loudly. “Yes, Commander.” The Commander nods, waving you over to follow her. At least from where you’re walking you got a great view of what’s below the chest. The hip swagger as she walks is enough to make time pass on by and by the next minute, you’re holding a bottle of Mandalorian black ale. “Right, Commander, we will deliver it personally-“

“Ah, ah, ah.” She wags her finger. “Don’t get snippy with me, Trooper. I will accompany you before my shift at the bridge.” Ugh. Just when you thought it couldn’t get worse. “Come, come.” The three of you step into an elevator, jam packed tight into the capsule. The doors shut, and off you go to the upper levels towards the Captain’s Quarters.

She looks down at Misri. “Trooper.” Misri looks up at her. “Why is your uniform so… ill-fitted? You look the part of a little babby trying to be dada.”

“Er-…” Misri coughs. “I lost my other uniform.”

“Ugh, we’re losing so much these days, ya?” says the Commander. “First it’s blasters, than it’s fighters and Nebbies, and finally we have lots and lots of defectors.” The Commander rolls her eyes. “Cap’n Lotte especially’s been devastated about the news about Delrusa.” Pil? Pil Delrusa? “He defected just last week.”

“Did he?” you ask. “Did they catch him?”

“Oh yes, of course,” says the Commander. “Gave him the farewell he deserved at the end of a blaster barrel. Hmph, thinks he can run, what a scunner.” She looks up at you. “You ain’t thinking of defecting, aye?” You shake your head. “Good.”

“How long does this elevator take?” asks Misri.

“The lift takes a few minutes to get up there,” says the Commander.

A few minutes too many.

Finally, the doors open, and three of you step into the hallway. The Officer’s Quarters. And at the end of the hallway is the Captain’s Quarters. The Commander knocks on the door. “Cap’n. Your ale has arrived.”

The door opens, revealing a very tired looking Lotte standing in darkness. You can’t even see what’s inside her room. “Very good,” she croaks. She takes the bottle from your arms. “Thank you, Trooper. Thank you, Commander Luyties. Thank you er…” She looks at Misri. “Why is this Trooper wearing a uniform that doesn’t fit?”

“She lost it,” you explain.

“Get a new one,” growls Lotte. She uncaps the bottle and immediately takes a swig. Commander Luyties continues standing at attention, apparently paying it no mind. Compared to you, that is unprofessional conduct unbecoming of an Officer. Precisely the kind of stuff you expect from Lotte really. “Commander, I want you on alert. I was informed by Coruscant Guard that a Barloz-class freighter matching the description of the Lion’s Share left Coruscant, I believe he may be after us.”

“Very good, Cap’n. Shall I scramble the fighters?” she asks.

“Yes, keep the Fighters on alert, all of them. When he arrives, deploy all of them, including the bombers.” You cringe a little, and for some reason also feel a surge in pride. She really thinks you warrant the entire complement of a Star Destroyer? That’s both scary and surprisingly nice of her, in a sense. She takes another swig of the ale, then sighs deeply. “And Commander Luyties, I also want Rhys alive and brought to my quarters as well. The crew as well must be taken care of too.”

Commander Luyties tilts her head. “Why your quarters?”
>>

[3/3]

“I’ve er…” She looks up at you two. You shrug, acknowledging your own silence. She leans over to Commander Luyties. “I have been rehearsing my apology and speech so as to uh… convince Rhys to re-enlist and perhaps even serve under my charge, Commander. Y-… you know how much Rhys means to me so I have to make it count, it might be my last chance.” Luyties quirks her brow, the first sign of a distressed subordinate. “How is this… ‘Rhys!’” Lotte smiles, standing stiff and straight. “’Listen, I know what I have done may have angered you, and I have a lot to answer for myself. But I believe we can put our differences aside to further serve the Empire. I know that perhaps-‘”

Commander Luyties holds up her hand, stopping her. “Y-… you don’t need to, Cap’n.” Lotte frowns a little. “I am sure that Rhys will appreciate an apology from you all the same, and that-“ Her holopad pings. She takes a look at it, and immediately her eyes go wide. “I must attend to the bridge, sorry.”

“Yes, yes, go.” Commander Luyties salutes, leaving you behind. Lotte looks at you. “Dismissed, Trooper.” Misri turns around, walking quickly to the lift.

But you stand stock still, staring at Lotte. Lotte narrows her eyes, looking at you, confusedly. “Trooper? Is there something you need to say to me?”

> “No, ma’am.”

“No, ma’am.” The tone you put it sounded pretty angry, probably enough to disguise your voice underneath the static of your helmet comms too. You turn around and start walking to the lift with Misri. The two of you enter in, and down you go towards the prison block.

Misri looks up at you. “Pil was pretty nice.”

“He was a great man,” you say quickly. “He didn’t deserve execution.” Great. That just left you, Eudora, Jarik, Lotte, and Russ from your class out of Flight School. Everybody else is either dead, has washed out, or has defected. You can’t dwell it on now, you have a job to do. But on the lift ride down, you do have a very silent moment to yourself. Pil may not have been a great pilot, but he made up for it by his charisma, his compassion for others too.

Misri not have known him for long, that’s fine. You won’t dwell on it just to make sure she doesn’t feel out of place.

And apology speech? What is this, a holovid? You sigh.

Misri gently takes your hand with hers, looking up at you. “… you sad?” You look down at her. “It’s alright.”

You shake her hand off. “We got a job to do.” The lift opens up, revealing the main hub to the prison deck. At the circular row of consoles were a few Navy troopers, backed up by an Officer as well. “Who’s in command here?”

The officer looks at you all with his beady brown eyes. “Me.” A Lieutenant, great. “Why are you troopers here?”

“We’re here to inspect the conditions of the prison block,” you explain. “It’s a surprise inspection.”

“Hm. I wasn’t notified.” That’s because it’s a surprise inspection you numbnuts. “I’ll have to clear-“ Suddenly, the power goes out. The Navy troopers all look up, and around. Your helmet’s nightvision works fine though. “What happened!?” Complete darkness for them.

“Sir, we lost power!” yells one of the Navy troopers. “Emergency power isn’t responding!”

“Watch out!” you yell. “Prisoners are loose!” The Navy Troopers all stand up from their posts, drawing their blasters. At this time, you swallow the mental thought of having to kill Imperial soldiers. People you would’ve gladly served alongside several years ago. It’s not a very easy choice but if you stun them, it’ll only hold for so long.

Of course, that’s why you’re going to stun them. A blue web of energy zaps the Officer first, knocking him out quickly. Misri follows you, also zapping the other Navy troopers with blue bolts of stun energy until quickly the entire hub is down.

You take a deep breath. It is not the right situation to start killing people you would’ve gladly called family just yet. “Come on,” you call to Misri. You hurry down the prison block hallway. “Kuvasz! Vikker!” Your nightvision is holding up fine at least, but you might have failed to account for the sheer scale of the prison block section. “Kuvasz!”

“Here!” You hurry around to one cell. “We’re in here!” You and Misri place your hands on the door, and shove it open. Kuvasz and Vikker look up at you. To your surprise at least, Vikker appears to have had his knee fixed up. “… why are you wearing Stormtrooper armor?”

“Long story,” you say. You take Kuvasz’s hand and help him out of the cell, then Vikker. “Vikker, you alright?”

He clicks his tusks, placing his hands on your arm. “You came back.”

“Of course I did,” you say. “Why wouldn’t I?” Vikker blinks, then shrugs. “Now, listen. I made a deal with the Bounty Hunters, they blew out the power, and right now the hangars should be on lockdown too except for one. The Balmoral should start drifting which will be Lev’s cue to-“ The ship shakes suddenly.

[1/2]

[2/2]

… That was not an internal explosion.

You hand Kuvasz and Vikker some DH-17s off the dead Navy troopers and hurry to the lift. “Misri, can you get the lift working?” She nods, tearing the panel out and grabbing some wires. She’ll need to redirect the power into the lift.

“What’s going on?” asks Kuvasz.

“I don’t know.” The ship rumbles again. Suddenly, the emergency power kicks in. The room goes red in emergency lighting.

The intercom blares out an alarm. “Alert! Alert! All crews to their stations! The ship is under attack! Repeat, the ship is under attack! This is not a drill! We’re under attack! This is no druk! We have Rebel cruisers and fighters coming in! Gunners to your stations, Rebel MC30c is moving across stern!”

… uh oh.

Sparks fly as Misri sets the wires. “We have power.” The lift whines as it powers up again. The four of you quickly get inside.” You hit up the hangar bay section. Hopefully the Bounty Hunters have done their part so-

Your communicator rings. You tear off the wrist guard and roll up your sleeve. “What!? What is it!?”

[2/3]
>>
>>44804337
[3/3]

“It’s Kublai!” The Trandoshan hisses over the radio. “Black Swan blew the power too early, all the hangars are open!” Agh! That means all the TIE Fighters- Wait. No, this can still work. If you escape in the confusion of the battle… yeah, this can still work. “We’re trying to make our way to the hangar now but-“ Static cuts him off. Damn it.

The lift rumbles as it feels like something crashes into the ship. “We’re going to escape while the Balmoral gets wrecked by a Rebel fleet?” asks Kuvasz. “They won’t last five minutes.”

… You suddenly feel an intense amount of guilt. Not for Lotte, mind you. Okay, a little bit for Lotte. But for the thousands of crewmembers aboard. The ship is helpless now. And you don’t imagine the Rebels are going to take everybody alive. Ugh.

No. No. You slam your head against the lift doors. You save yourself first.

The ship rumbles again. “What was that?” asks Vikker.

“Sounded like the shields and comms are gone,” you say. “Even if they get the power up now, the Balmoral’s helpless.”

Damn it, damn it, damn it. You don’t want to help Lotte, but you don’t want to just leave these crewmen to their fates, argh.

>Lotte crosses her arms. “So you can see me?” she asks.

>Misri cocks her head. “Um. Yeah?” You gently place your face into your hand. Misri is wearing the welding goggles on top of those eyewrappings. She can’t see her. She shouldn’t be able to see her. “Why?”

>“Just asking,” she says. Lotte smiles to you. “Anyway, we’ll have to get her in something nicer than… this.” Misri is still wearing a jumpsuit, with the top wrapped around her waist, and a stained tank top as well. “This makes you look like you came fresh out of lower Corulag. And I would get rid of these welding goggles too and that hair… hm.” Lotte scratches her chin, then grabs Misri’s arm. Misri stands there, stiff, a little frightened. “Hm. Strong arms. Do you race?”

>“Swoop race?” Lotte nods. “Oh, yeah!” Misri grins, relaxing immediately. “I mean, I brought my Starhawk out here and I uh… yeah, I used to race a lot before I joined up with this guy right here and er… yeah.” Misri slowly retires into a shell, twiddling her fingers.

>Lotte smirks. “Well, Rhys. Interesting girl you have traveling with you. A Mandalorian and an Aqualish I can understand but…” She shrugs. “I can forgive it. How about we discuss your newest job over lunch?” Lotte turns her eyes towards Misri. “Just the two of us.”

>>
> Get the power restored, at least give them a fighting chance.

“We have to restore power to the ship,” you say.

“What?” Vikker looks at you, crazy. “We can’t do that! We’ll be caught in their tractor beam and we’d never escape!”

Kuvasz nods. “He’s right. What you’re proposing is risky. If we restore power to the ship, they may have a fighting chance against the Rebels. But that also means they’ll be in their rights to capture us as we try to make it out of the hangars.”

“Look, you guys can leave without me,” you say. “I’m not going to leave these guys to die. They never did me any harm, hell, I would’ve gladly served with any of them. I’m not running.” The lift reaches its destination. The doors open, leading into the hangar bays. However, nobody in the lift moves. “… well, you can go.”

Vikker places his hand on your arm. “Let me do you a solid this time. I’ll go with you.”

“I will as well.” Kuvasz nods. “You have my blaster.”

Misri shakes her head, sighing. “Guess I’ll go too.”

You blink, feeling something in your gut. You haven’t felt something like this since Flight School, with Lotte and Pil and the others. It’s that same thing you felt when you were part of something bigger, greater. Oh yes. You missed that feeling. You smile at them, happily. “… alright. Alright, we can do this.” You hit the button on the lift, sending you down to engineering now. “You guys follow my lead, I know the layout.”

[1/2]
>>
>>44805268
[2/2]

The lift reaches the engineering bay. The intercom blares out again. “Alert! Rebels are deploying droid transports! We are being boarded by droids, all troopers to defensive positions! Non-combat personnel report to safe haven!” Okay, fine, fine. Damn it. You run down the catwalk, right next to the colossal primary power generator. Turning that on will allow the rest of the ship’s systems to function. You need to get to the main control room.

Suddenly, the ship shakes again. “What the hell is that!?” yells Misri.

The answer comes in the floor below the power generators getting drilled right through. Those are several dozens of meters of steel and metal they are going through. The drill explodes, and popping out of it come battle droids. Old B2 Rocket droids. They’re intending to keep the power knocked out permanently it seems.

A squad of them stands in your path. “For the Rebel Alliance, attack!” they yell in their droning monotone.

2 BBY is the point in time where the Separatist Holdouts have been assimilated into the Rebel Alliance. Thusly, a lot of cells do in fact have access to battle droids as auxiliary units. AATs and Hailfire droids are even in the arsenal for bigger cells that can openly threaten Imperial ground forces.

Depends on the Mandalorian type of armor. Kuvasz's armor for example can actually stop low to medium power blaster bolts along with serving as a spacesuit provided there's a respirator and a tank of oxygen provided.

But for modern mass produced stuff, it's generally lower quality, due to the overmining of beskar on Mandalore. Most of the Furies save for Warmaster Vizsla and her Nite Furies wear cheap knockoffs or even salvaged Clone trooper armor rather than actual beskar Mandalorian armor.

Basically, if you're looking for Mandalorian armor, go antique.

I feel sorry for Jennis, any chance to make it up to her. Also why is she in debt? Don't tell me her ship is on loan.
>>
>>44806866
Jennis has thick skin, as long as you explain the situation it'll be fine.

Also she's in debt because scavving isn't that profitable. Especially when you're a Zygerrian and most people assume you're selling slaves. She tries gambling, which of course, doesn't work and only further gets her into debt. The ship is hers, but it barely runs because Jennis can't afford to buy a decent astromech to keep it running.
