Woman in the Dunes was made in the year of the Tokyo Olympics (a documentary of which, made by Kon Ichikawa, was released in 1965), a time when the eyes of the world were all on Japan. After defeat in the war and the subsequent US occupation, the economic boom of the mid-60s turned Japan's fortunes around, making it one of the world's most affluent nations. This rapid modernisation is reflected in the films and literature of the period (cf. the Japanese New Wave cinema spearheaded by Oshima) and Woman in the Dunes can undoubtedly be read as a comment or critique of this time of great social and ideological change.

The Art of Montage: Eisenstein

Eisenstein wrote the film as a revolutionary propaganda film, but also used it to test his theories of "montage". The revolutionary Soviet filmmakers of the Kuleshov school of filmmaking were experimenting with the effect of film editing on audiences, and Eisenstein attempted to edit the film in such a way as to produce the greatest emotional response, so that the viewer would feel sympathy for the rebellious sailors of the Battleship Potemkin and hatred for their cruel overlords. In the manner of most propaganda, the characterization is simple, so that the audience could clearly see with whom they should sympathize.

La Strada

La Strada (The Road) is a 1954 Italian drama film directed by Federico Fellini from his own screenplay co-written with Tullio Pinelli and Ennio Flaiano. The film portrays a brutish strongman (Anthony Quinn) and the naïve young woman (Giulietta Masina) whom he buys from her mother and takes with him on the road; encounters with his rival the Fool (Richard Basehart) end with their destruction.

The years since its initial release have solidified the high estimation of La Strada. It holds a 97% rating on the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes from 31 reviewers who, on average, scored it 8.7 on a scale of 10. Its numerous appearances on lists of best films include the 1992 Directors' poll of the British Film Institute (4th best), the New York Times "Best 1,000 Movies Ever Made", and the "Greatest Films" list of They Shoot Pictures, Don't They - a website which statistically calculates the most well-received movies.

Umberto D. is a 1952 Italian neorealist film directed by Vittorio De Sica. Most of the actors were non-professional, including Carlo Battisti, who plays the title role of Umberto Domenico Ferrari, a poor old man in Rome desperately trying to keep his room. His landlady (Lina Gennari) is evicting him, and his only true friends, the housemaid (Maria-Pia Casilio) and his dog Flike (called 'Flag' in some subtitled versions of the film) are of no help.

The raw emotion tho film elicits is credit tp de Sica's skills as a director and the untrained actor playing Umberto. The movie was included in "Time Magazine's All-Time 100 Movies" in 2005.

Stalker

This one is almost a religious experience. You may get epiphanies, end up questioning your world view. or not. But I did.

Deep within the Zone, a bleak and devastated forbidden landscape, lies a mysterious room with the power to grant the deepest wishes of those strong enough to make the hazardous journey there. Desperate to reach it, a scientist and a writer approach the Stalker, one of the few able to navigate the Zone’s menacing terrain, and begin a dangerous trek into the unknown. Tarkovsky’s second foray into science fiction after ‘Solaris’ is a surreal and disturbing vision of the future. Hauntingly exploring man’s dreams and desires, and the consequences of realising them, ‘Stalker’, adapted from Arkady & Boris Sturgatsky’s novel ‘Roadside Picnic’, has been described as one of the greatest science fiction films of all time.

The Red Violin

The intricate history of a beautiful antique violin is traced from its creation in Cremona, Italy, in 1681, where a legendary violin maker (Carlo Cecchi) paints it with his dead wife's blood to keep her memory alive, to an auction house in modern-day Montreal, where it draws the eye of an expert appraiser. Over the years between, the violin travels through four different countries, where it has a profound impact on all those who own it.

The film was inspired by one of the violins of Antonio Stradivari, the 1721 Red Mendelssohn, which features a unique red stripe on its top right side (the notion of a red violin painted with the blood of the maker's wife being an invention of the director).

The Secret in their Eyes

n 1999, retired Argentinian federal justice agent BenjamÃn EspÃ3sito is writing a novel, using an old closed case as the source material. That case is the brutal rape and murder of Liliana Coloto. In addition to seeing the extreme grief of the victim's husband Ricardo Morales, BenjamÃn, his assistant Pablo Sandoval, and newly hired department chief Irene Menéndez-Hastings were personally affected by the case as BenjamÃn and Pablo tracked the killer, hence the reason why the unsatisfactory ending to the case has always bothered him. Despite the department already having two other suspects, BenjamÃn and Pablo ultimately were certain that a man named Isidoro GÃ3mez is the real killer. Although he is aware that historical accuracy is not paramount for the novel, the process of revisiting the case is more an issue of closure for him. He tries to speak to the key players in the case, most specifically Irene...

Based on Sacheri's novel La pregunta de sus ojos (The Question in Their Eyes). The film, a joint production of Argentine and Spanish companies,[3] stars Ricardo Darín and Soledad Villamil.

Alright, I mgonna share some real shit

Peeping Tom (1960)

The movie so shocking to the people in 1960 it permanetly ruined the career of the director

>The title derives from the slang expression 'peeping Tom' describing a voyeur. The film revolves around a serial killer who murders women while using a portable movie camera to record their dying expressions of terror.

>The film's controversial subject and the extremely harsh reception by critics effectively destroyed Powell's career as a director in the United Kingdom. However, it attracted a cult following, and in later years, it has been re-evaluated and is now widely considered a masterpiece.

have you tried looking at btdigg.org? I recently downloaded the movie, and I'm pretty sure I found the torrent through that site. If you don't find it I can seed mine.

I usually seed for about 8-10 hrs/day, so if it starts downloading and then stops don't freak out, I'll be back the next day.

Enjoy!

One of the most original films I've seen.
Just checked imdb and my copy is 6mins shorter than stated, so I must have the cut version, and that won't do.

>I've seen somewhere that there are 2 versions of the movie, censored and uncensored

Can you remember where you heard this Anon? Might be a good place to start searching.

I'm aware that Imgur.com will stop allowing adult images since 15th of May. I'm taking actions to backup as much data as possible.
