Personally I find an IWB(s) set to closing down: much more and a deeper defensive line accomplishes the same thing but with more of a counterattacking threat. That's my usual approach in Europe anyway. 4-2-3-1 with IF(s) and two defensive MC's supported by IWB's. Grinds out a lot of 1-0's.

If they are League 2 quality according to the coach reports, I would probably extend the contracts of some essential positions, at least. You can even get by with a few Vanarama quality players here and there. But I would probably have started scouting in January and made a shortlist of League 1 players on expiring contracts already.

Yes. "Until finished" probably varies then, I just set someone to do that instead of "ongoing" by mistake and he stopped after just two months, with a lot of scouted players, so its probably a set amount of players. If your scout isn't finding anyone its probably not going to finish anytime soon for him either.
