The Cavs made the damn trade knowing IT was injured and traded medical info with eachother during trade discussions. It's not a serious injury and doesn't require surgery, the problem is evaluating how long it'll take to heal while still having him ready, so the Cavs will be starting Rose for a while.

Last year, they had a really unbalanced offense that relied on IT taking a ton of shots and being really efficient with them. What you're suggesting amounts to just taking Gordon Hayward and sliding him into the same framework that was around IT - he wouldn't have any more support on offense than IT did. And Hayward has never carried as much of an offensive load for his team as IT did for the Celtics last year. So who's going to step up and take on that load, when none of their players could reliably do so last year?
