As a Cardinals fan, what should I say to piss off Cubs supporters?
guys is this hat ugly?
Sorry, someone put the wrong hat on

Tell them you actually buy your beer like a proper gentleman.
I wonder if that retard that was hating on Yu Darvish will show back up or if he's finally realized he's wrong.
Probably a pseudo intellectual plebbitor that prides himself on being an enlightened advocate of advanced stats while not knowing how to actually approach them in real context.
>>77369744

I didn't post that. You completely ignored the fastball/slider stuff I posted. You're clearly a retard anyway because you started talking rambling on about shit that isn't related to pitch value when I brought it up as though you think that's a catch all for pitcher stats and not a specific thing.

Fucking idiot. For Darvish if not when there was with his fastball but not his slider? For his k/9 if there was to be with that; heretofore, it is to begin with them and end with those. I will not repeat that shit again. Rangers for their findings of not with the trades or the never for not that is there to go? Quit that shit, or find better stats.
>>77369991
I'd argue Brantley over Napoli. Napoli was streaky as fuck all year.
Rangers game starting, Beltre is 2 hits away from 3000.
Is there any way to look at what Lindor's Avg would be without his sac bunts?
>>77370025
Best hitters from that season. Brantley played like, what, 16 games? Michael has been unbelievable this season though and we did miss him, but Napoli was one of the most important pieces of 16

>Neither the Astros nor Brewers are “serious players for Gray,” writes MLB Network’s Ken Rosenthal, who adds that the Braves and Cubs also don’t look likely to acquire him. The Dodgers are the biggest threat to the Yankees in this sweepstakes, but Gray isn’t LA’s main focus, per Rosenthal. With that in mind, Rosenthal expects the Yankees to land Gray, though it might not happen until Monday. Gray to the Bronx makes sense, opines Rosenthal, who notes that the Yankees need answers in their rotation beyond this year (only Luis Severino and Jordan Montgomery are locks to return in 2018) and want to get under the $197MM luxury-tax threshold next season. Acquiring the affordable Gray would help them on both fronts.
It looks like Gray to the Yankees is all but inevitable. Hopefully Cashman doesn't fuck this up.

Sherman believes the move has something to do with Monday’s trade deadline, and it’s worth noting that the Yankees and A’s are deep in talks regarding Oakland right-hander Sonny Gray. Speculatively, Littell could end up in the package going to Oakland if the Yankees acquire Gray (or as part of another deal). MLB.com ranks the 21-year-old Littell as New York’s 22nd-best prospect.

In case their negotiations with the A’s collapse, the Yankees are discussing starters with other teams as fallback options, per Sherman.

I train with Pilates in the offseason and in-season on a daily basis. Pilates gets my body into a position where I’m activated, I’m loose and I’m ready to go as soon as I step out onto the field. It aids my warm-up process; it gets me much more ready for the day of activity than any other type of warm-up ever has. And the amount of core strength that I’ve built with Pilates and hamstring strength and hip mobility and mobility in my shoulders and my spine — those are all things that directly correlate with what I have to do on the field.
I kind of brought Pilates to the Cubs. I went to Ricketts, Jed, Theo, and I told them this is our way to be innovative. In five to 10 years, every clubhouse in baseball is going to be doing this. I think at first a lot of guys were skeptical. But as time has gone by, the amount of guys that are taking part in either a morning routine of Pilates or an afternoon session is pretty high. I’d say there’s been 15-20 guys that are actively using Pilates. And they are all seeing the added benefit.

Pretty much this. Guys that rely on speed fall of really fast. Even more so if they get hurt. That being said i felt bad for Eaton. I liked him even dating back to his days on the D-Backs. So i was excited when the Sox delt for him and sad when he was shipped out.
If the White Sox had any real leadership during his time there his asshole tendencies would of been confined to the field and not so much in the press.
Even if the rebuild goes amazing and they win a title out of it ill still be salty at how much the front office completely failed at building around the talent the team had.

>>77380323
Why would we be mad about the Royals fucking up by not selling and tanking their future? Every contender gets to keep their prospects from being shipped to KC and those teams that want to can just get their FAs in a few months for only money.
>>77380450
What do they even have left to trade from their shitty farm system?

>>77380673
But he's right. The team actually has the financial flexibility to look up Moose longterm and retain Cain since his production as of this year and his current age points to a cheap short term contract for at least the short run.
>>77380612
After the long ass drought the Royals went through to even be a playoff contender let alone winning the whole thing i can see why the front office would be a little hesitant to sell. Why rush back into sub .500 baseball when you just recently got out of it? Not to mention the White Sox are rebuilding. The Tigers are finally done and have a long road ahead of them. And who the hell knows where the T___s are going. Its a division thats there for the taking since the Indians are good but not overwhelming.

>Indians are good but not overwhelming
They still have about 90% odds to win the division. Royals are playing for the wild card.
>>77381052
John Farrell has also been a pretty successful manager with the Red Sox lately. He's on track to another winning record, less than half of the league has this privilege right now. Ned Yost has one of the better managerial records this decade for the current 8 years in this span as well, now tell me again, how this is "bad?"
>>77379935
He can only fool you for so long
>>77381077
Use anti-sabermetrics as a meaning of winning a title in the era of stats and stats nerds. Remarkable in my opinion. Also on track to get his team back in the playoffs where his KC track record is just one series lost.
>>77381160
John Farrell is also the beneficiary of a whole lot of young talent, and a solid starting rotation, despite the memes. The man doesn't know how to manage the bullpen to save his life. He's not a good manager.
Yost has been the beneficiary of some young talent, with a phenomenal bullpen on their pennant runs. Yost is definitely a better manager than Farrell, but his ring doesn't make him a good manager. The Royals team in 2015 was never out of the ballgame, and that was almost entirely on the offense. Yost has very little influence on whether or not the offense performs.

He did it off bullpen and defense, and inspired other teams to copy this method. Also known to be a great clubhouse presence from what Royals fans have told me in gamethreads with them. If we're going to talk about which teams are more metrics based and which are not by the way, it's a 50-50 split with more teams embracing metrics (these teams usually end up winning the WS nowadays). With the Royals as an outlier, I'd say this is time to give credit to where it is due and whom is behind the scenes on multiple fronts.
>>77381620

2013: Win cup against mediocre Bruins squad in lockout season
2014: Eliminated by the kings in 7 games in WCF

>>77392164
Yankees aren't going for gray. Garcia is enough. The dodgers will pay a lot just for darvish or gray though
>The Yankees have added a dependable starter with postseason experience to their rotation, acquiring left-handed starter Jaime Garcia from the Twins.
Garcia had spent less than a week with the Twins after being acquired July 24 in a deal wth the Braves.
The 31-year-old lefty is a dependable innings eater who is 5-7 with a 4.29 ERA in 119 2/3 innings this season. Perhaps more importantly, he has plenty of post-season experience dating to his time as a member of the Cardinals from 2008-2016. In seven post-season starts, he has a 3.94 ERA.
ESPN's Buster Olney also reported a source said the first-place Yankees may not be done bolstering their rotation, as they're still in the hunt for coveted Athletics starter Sonny Gray.
but why...... Jamie Garcia isn't good :'( at least we gave up jack shit for him, would have preferred lance lynn if we were going the rental route

>>77392363
Getting Garcia shows the A's the Yanks aren't as desperate for Gray, it lowers his asking value, Yanks wont have to deal both Mateo and Florial now probably.

>Yankees are rebuilding
>>77393001
They've only traded one prospect in their system's to 20, and that prospect has had questionable offenseat Single-A, is blocked by both major league talent and other major league ready minor leaguers, and isn't going to be MLB ready for a few more years.
These trades also make sense when you consider the Rule 5 draft.
>>77393055
Yes, Rule 5 draft is crucial, same reason Twins got who they got for Garcia, Yanks have no room on the 40-man for those two
>>77393055
That's all well and good but it doesn't dispute his point that the Yankees aren't currently rebuilding, despite what some of their fans claim.
>>77393151
I'm surprised you haven't mentioned muh high payroll yet to talk down on the yanks
>>77393151
This isn't a rebuilding year in the sense that they're selling for the future, they're rebuilding in the sense that they aren't where they need to be and still have some pieces to figure out like starting pitching.
This was supposed to be a wild card year at best but its turning into a real possibility that the Yanks win the division, thats why its emphasized that is a "rebuilding year" and theyre doing so well, they weren't ready to be division leaders yet
>wake up
>>77393151
I've yet to see a legitimate argument that the Yankees aren't rebuilding. All of last season, they were focusing on getting top prospects while selling at the trade deadline. They're in first place right now, so there's no reason for them to sell any pieces for prospects, but they are still building for the future. Everyone is focusing on muh Todd Frazier in the White Sox trade, while ignoring that they have a solid bullpen arm in Kahnle for another three years, in addition to at least two more year of Robertson. If they trade for Sonny Gray, they'll have a young, controllable starter for the foreseeable future which helps fill in a hole they desperately need. Jaime Garcia was got for literally nothing, and was just a trade that allowed the Yankees to get at least something instead of losing the players for nothing in the Rule 5 draft.
Notice how the Yankees have kept their prize prospects this entire time? They are still building for the future, as they were last year, except they're doing it with young, controllable major league talent now. Their farm is still pretty much intact, and will most likely stay this way after the trade deadline.
>>77393179
Because I don't have to when you do it for me, kek.
>>77393208
You are really splitting hairs on this. Are the Yankees currently contending or not? Have they traded from their farm system (even if they haven't given up much so far, which I acknowledge) to bolster their Major league roster?
You are not a rebuilding team, you're a contender. Stop trying to have your cake and eat it too.
>>77393292

>>77393292
I think they still need some more key players in their farm system.
>>77393310
>I'm not reading 6 sentences
Life is hard for you.
tl;dr The Yankees aren't building up their farm system, but they are using prospects who are blocked to trade for young, controllable MLB talent that will help them in the future. They aren't rebuilding in the sense that they are building up their farm, but the are still focused on future success rather than trading every top prospect for rentals.
>>77393292
Okay, I read it now and you are an idiot for suggesting that just because the Yankees aren't acquiring only rental player that this is the same as rebuilding.
You traded Miller last season with 2 1/2 years left on his contract. Going by what you said here, the Indians we're rebuilding because they got a player who impacted for more than one season for them.
>>77393348
I'm not reading all of this shit.

>>77393310
>you cant be rebuilding and a contender
Shut your autistic ass up, the Yanks are acquiring pieces for future years to come, not just rentals to win it all this year.
Royals and Cubs both struggled/are struggling after they won it all because they sold it all to win, yanks aren't doing that, they plan to be winners for awhile.
>>77393404
Not a yankees fag, but the Yankees are rebuilding. It's just that Judge has performed, so the rebuilding team has started to contend much faster. However, the actual window won't start until a few more prospects go up.
It's like the Brewers. They're rebuilding, but because the team somehow found its way into contention does that mean they should trade away their future for a chance to win now?

The Indians also traded their two top prospects, prospects who weren't blocked and could've helped them win within the next year or two. The Yankees haven't done this. There was absolutely no focus on preserving the farm system from the Indians, and their attitude was absolutely win now.
>>77393552
Nigga fuck you then.

Oh, okay. That's totally believable. You sure did convince me you're not a Yankees fag.
So wait, are the Yankees a team that was exposed as a pretender this past month, or are they legitimate contenders now that absolutely can't be rebuilding? /mlb/ is so inconsistent that I don't even know what I'm supposed to shitpost about the Yankees now.
>>77393635
But I"m not a yankees fag. I'm a Dodgers fan. I can just see what situation they are in. I've been saying it for months now that the Yankees are going to fall back down to earth.
>>77393635
>>77393670
BTW, if the Yankees were to trade for Darvish, then I would change my stance on their situation. I would also laugh at them for not recognizing that they're a rebuilding team.
>>77393670
>I've been saying it for months now that the Yankees are going to fall back down to earth.
They did, and they fall back hard as evident by their .300 win percentage this past month. The only reason they are "contenders" is because absolutely no other team in the Wild Card hunt, or in the AL East took advantage of the Yankees fall.
ITT: baaaawston
>>77393607
>their top two prospects
Zimmer currently plays center for them so you're wrong on one. And I'm pretty sure Sheffield wasn't going to help them during this current contention window since he's still a few years away.
I'm really shocked though going by your logic to find out the Indians are currently rebuilding too. This is a different way of thinking I hadn't considered before.
>>77393702
>Gray good
>Darvish good, but now you're trying to contend in a rebuilding year
I agree.
>>77393756
>And I'm pretty sure Sheffield wasn't going to help them during this current contention window since he's still a few years away.
Sheffield's literally ETA is next season.
And I'm glad you continued to ignore my other points about how the Yankees also haven't traded any of their big dogs, like the Indians did, and aren't trading for people for immediate success like the Indians did with the Miller trade.
There are better relievers currently on the market than Kahnle and Robertson. There are better starters currently on the market than Sonny Gray. However, what set them apart from the others is that they are young (sans Robertson), and controllable for the next few seasons, which allows them to be in pinstripes when the Yankees are in legitimate contention. Not while they overperform and stumble into first place as the Red Sox vastly underperform.
>t___s are contending
>yaks are rebuilding

Incredible that there can be more than one opinion on a certain matter.
>>77393846
>Sheffield's literally ETA is next season
Well yeah, probably since the Yankees will still have a need for him in their rotation. Indians are set with their rotation right now though and I guess I could claim now he was blocked too.

Frazier would've been blocked by players they already have on their MLB roster plus Zimmer too, who by the way was their number one prospect last season but somehow Yankees fans are now convinced they got the top 2 from the Indians for Miller.

>Padres getting bullied on the market
>Justin Wilson is about to save the farm system

>>77393993
My mistake, I had forgotten about Zimmer, that still doesn't change my point though.
Another point on the matter, the Yankees rotation is extremely volatile. They are losing at least two of their pitcher in the offseason (one of them they just lost to injury, but you get my point), and Tanaka has the possibility of opting out of his contract. The only two starters the Yankees for sure have are Severino and Montgomery. Trading for Gray is absolutely vital for the Yankees to have a decent rotation in the future, while still staying young. The fact that Gray has the possibility to help the Yankees out this season is only the cherry on top to their pitching situation.
I shouldn't even need to go into depth on why the Yankees needed longterm bullpen help.
>>77394138

Yes, he's probably the only rental the Yankees will acquire. They got him for nothing, and he gives them added depth which will allow them to limit innings on Severino and Montgomery since this is their first full season, and also allows Tanaka to get his six days rest.
The bullpen and starting rotation were extremely volatile not only this season, but for the foreseeable future. The Yankees addressing this issue by getting controllable pitcher at the trade deadline, while keeping their top prospects, doesn't mean they aren't rebuilding. They are still addressing needs that have no immediate answer for the coming seasons. Having them help out this season is just an added bonus.

>Won't trade that overrated bum Abreu or Nate Jones

That Was more for Kanhle and Robertson than Frazier

He's a well above average player and no one talks about him at all, how is he overrated? Also Jones can't get healthy.

>He's a well above average player
And yet you can't see why he's so overrated

You're going to have to explain yourself instead of trying to act smart.
God am I going to miss Melky's brief but very entertaining stint with us

I'll miss everything but his defense

The numbers say it all. He's a below average offensive first baseman, and Ryan Howard tier defensively. Basically just a fatter Carlos Pena

>He's a below average offensive first baseman
Average wRC+ for 1B with at least 200 PA this season: 118
Abreu's wRC+ this season: 128
I won't argue about defense.

Why can't whos fans just catch a break for once? This is getting even sadder than the Marlins and they're probably the saddest fans in baseball what with the whole Loria, new park that sucks, and of course Fernandez thing and not having anything since 2003.

Frankly, Pitcher Wins and RBIs are the two most important stats to determine a players ability and value
