How close is the NL CYA at this point?

>Scherzer
#1 ERA (2.01)
#1 WHIP (0.80)
#1 BAA (.162)
#1 SO (183)

>Kershaw
#1 Wins (15)
#1 IP (139.1)
#2 ERA (2.07)
#2 SO (166)
#2 WHIP (0.89)
#2 BAA (.199)

Pretty close, but right now Scherzer wins it. Can he keep up his performance this season? It's easy to forget, but Mad Max typically posts a 3+ ERA.

It will be fun to watch.

Yeah, but the Yankees are banking on Judge to be a hit already. There is still uncertainty in him. I felt like after last season, the Yankees were looking at such a deep farm system and now due to this season's good start they blew up that direction. Now they're in win now mode and their ceiling was lowered.

I think Boston is underperforming right now. White Sox have to me secured their future after these last 2 trades. Giolito and Fulmer looked like busts.

Max is worse than Kershaw in elimination games and not good in playoffs period. Max lost to Kershaw and then got closed out by Kershaw in his start. I don't 'get' this post. Kershaw has been better than Max mroe times in postseason than Max has been good.

So Duquette has been given the green light to shop Britton and Bach but not Manny? Once Brittion's gone there's literally no point in keeping Manny other than hoping he rebounds enough to have more value in the offseason despite being a rental at that point

Britton and Kenley would close. You don't want to burn Kenley's arm with 15IP before the WS so you use Britton to alleviate him. It makes absolute sense. Wilson as well. He would serve as the LH specialist seeing as Wood isn't going back to the pen and neither is Hill. Avilan the current LH specialist is nasty as fuck but he's good only every 7/10 outtings and. Best case scenario you have 3 fucking closers in a playoff run. That's not even counting Baez who is a top 10 reliever in baseball as well and Brandon Morrow who is the set-up for the set-up. If the opposition doesn't have the lead through 4 innings that game is fucking done. Straight up. Darvish is cheap. He's not on an insane 12.5 K/9 with a 2.55 ERA, he's nothing but a loan. He would be fantastic for LA with Grandal and that Park. Verlander is too much. You're right.
>>
>>77202236
Darvish won't get moved. Texas will be considered the frontrunner for Otani if they can re-sign Darvish and trading him would pretty much eliminate any chance of that happening. If this was OOTP he'd be dealt.

Pedro's 10-year stretch from 1997-2006

158-61 / 177 ERA + / .978 WHIP / 10.6 SO9

Show me the ERA and FIP papi. You can't drop CIDM in a Kershaw como. Drop all the metrics.

Kershaw's career ERA+ as it stands today is the greatest among any pitcher to ever live, in any era.
>>
>>77202593

Pedro did it during the obscene steroid era, in a notoriously small ball park, against the DH in 7 of those 10 seasons.

When Pedro had a 1.74 ERA in 2000, the average runs per game in the AL was 5.30.

When Clayton has his 1.77 ERA in 2014 the average runs per game in the NL was 3.95.

>Kershaw's career ERA+ as it stands today is the greatest among any pitcher to ever live, in any era.

Great, but he is going to age. Pedro's ERA+ from his rookie year all the way to 2007 was equal to Kershaw's (again in offensive era / facing DH in 7 seasons). It was only his last two years that put him over. Safe to assume same will happen to Kershaw's.

Happily put Kershaw in Martinez's class but the numbers simply do not support your assertion that he was better.
>>
Wow, White Sox fleeced again

>>77202306
He said he was a huge fan of Kershaw. He also said he liked watching Harper hit. He was close to signing with the Dodgers before deciding to stay in Japan.

Dodgers also have a pitcher's park, with a big JPN population, and history with Japanese players. Problem is that AL has the DH, but that also depends on who is DH for the other contending teams with a jpn presence.

Lets break it down some more

of the 25

9 in the lineup
5 in rotation
8 in the bullpen
and 3 on the bench

now we plug in the actually good players

1/9 good in lineup (maybe 2/9?)
2/5 good in rotation
1/8 good in bullpen
bench doesn't matter but 0/3

When we see it this way it becomes crystal clear why they were so shitty despite having such good trade pieces. Then also factor in Ventura. It's a miracle this team didn't lose 100+ games for the last few seasons.

I still don't get why the Yankees wanted Frazier. His shittiness could have at least been masked by the green monster helping him turn pop ups to left into doubles at least if he were in Boston. The only solace i take from that is at least they finally figured out shit was not working and hit a true reset button this time.

It sucks seeing Q across town and even worse that Sale is young enough that if/when he makes the Hall it might be in a Red Sox hat and not a White Sox one. But at least they did not sit on their hands for years like Seattle did with Felix.

They spent his entire career doing this half rebuild half going for it nonsense rushing up any prospects with a little talent and ruining them or making signings on vets that are not good or past their prime. (Sounds Familiar to the Sox really) and what did it get them for his career? Nothing but a few records. Who knows how much better along the Mariners might be if they delt him in 2012 or whatever year for him would be the equivalent of Sale being traded now was and hit a full reset.

It also helps that they got something back with promise. And after the shitshow that was the Bulls dealing of Butler it doesn't feel as bad.

The person who wins the most of this trade is Todd Frazier. there's no way that's single season lmao. no one's come close to a 20 WAR season, mike trout is the modern GOAT and he gets 8-10 a year. they're talking lifetime contribution. 26+ career WAR puts you in the top 1000 all time, 50+ gets you top 300
>>
Kris bryant just died. Cubs are fucked
>>
>>77207207
That still sounds way better than any current or recent sox player

I mean Dioner Navarro had like a -6 WAR

Its always amazing how players can be so bad that they sabotage the entire team.

that's pretty anomalous, navarro was a fatass playing for a horrible team that still got playing time because he's a veteran catcher. most guys don't get the opportunity to rack up even -2 WAR.

point is they're estimating how much he's going to contribute at the major league level and it doesn't look like they're too confident he's going to have more than a couple decent seasons at best. hell, that graph says he has a good shot at never making it out of the minors

All these hand-first slides are killing the young talent of the game. Starting tomorrow, slides are banned and the runner will automatically be called safe or out based on how far from the base he or she is when the ball arrives.

So we all know how the 2001 Mariners' season went down. And they managed to win 121 games (inc. playoffs) without the biggest stars (arguably) in franchise history–Randy Johnson, A-Rod, and The Kid.
Hypothetically, they all stick with the team going into the 2001 season. What happens in 2001?

Voat in this poal plz, it's very impoartant

so their defense/lineup looks like this:

C Dan Wilson
1B John Olerud
2B Bret Boone
3B David Bell
SS A-Rod
LF Mike Cameron
CF Ken Griffey Jr.
RF Ichiro

Rotation:
Randy Johnson
Freddy Garcia
Aaron Sele
Jamie Moyer
Paul Abbott
Joel Pineiro (spot starter)
