>>
>>77152761
It's hard to have a reasonable discussion about the guy up because he tends to draw such extreme opinions. He had some serious flaws as a fighter and his opposition was weak, but he still dominated the heavies for a decade. Not one of the all-time greats but still a great fighter.

I don't think his chin was really that bad either, his real problem was that he panicked when he got hit and shot his wad.

True they were hot shit for a very hot second. But what does it mean to floyds career? Why doesn't anybody look at his career objectively instead of just reading off names and saying he fought the best.

The first title he won was a joke against a hack who got lucky he fought a very old champ. After that he fights some small Puerto Rican guy. The underwhelmingness of floyds career continues as he fights either old boxers or fighters who just came off getting their shit rocked.

He never rematches de la hoya
He never fought undefeated cotto
He never fought margarito
He never fought prime manny
And he fought Marquez who came up two weight divisions and was then being considered the p4p number 1

>inb4 >leddit. It's actually useful to find full fight vids the morning after a fight

>Size: MMA guys simply count the height and reach advantage as an advantage. Yes Floyd has beaten opponents with larger size before. I've read that MMA fighters cut / gain more weight for fights than boxing. So McG might normally walk around at 170, whereas Floyd normally might be 155. If Conor bulks up after weigh-ins, he could be considerably larger and heavier than Floyd - which in turn has pros and cons associated with it.

>Stance: As Conor alluded to this week in the press conferences (post show media scrums), he can fight in many stances - whereas Floyd fights in one stance; the Mayweather stance. If Conor comes at him in karate, thai boxing, kung fu ninja, etc - his bet is it throws Floyd off enough to land some power shots.

>Distance: Conor likes to bounce around a lot. He bounces in and out of range at different angles and in different stances with each bounce. I've watched many Mayweather fights and have yet to see an opponent that even comes close to Conors movement.

>A Side: Conor is the A side no doubt. Everyone watching this is tuning in to see Conor win spectacularly and Floyd lose spectacularly. Floyd was retired, his fan base consists of most;ly people who recognize his achievements, recognize that he is a boring fighter to watch and deep down want to see him lose because his persona is unbearable. Conor has the more rabid global market no doubt.

>Clinch: I don't get the clinch either. I assume both fighters will try to batter each other in the clinch. McG is younger and more aggressive here though -and may have more MMA-style 'tricks' to pull in the clinch.

>Power":; Where is Floyds power compared to Mcgregors? He brought Porier to his knees, slept Aldo, broke down Alvarez, let alone the other earlier fights like Brimage and Buchinger. He has power and Floyd candidly has less.

>Brenden is knowledgable on MMA but he is an admitted Conor groupie so everything he says is very skewed towards Conor.

>For MMA fans of Conor though - we look at what he has said / predicted and accomplished and it's hard to doubt him anymore.

>all this complete nonsense about stance and distance
>Conor is the A side no doubt (top top top top kek. Might be my favourite thing that MMA fans believe about this)

So the blue card judge gave Corrales the 10th round 10-9 in which they fought for 30 seconds.

If he scored it 10-10 it would have been a majority draw and less of a screwjob. Castellanos won the fight so he would still have been robbed by a draw, but it wouldnt be as bad.

Gamboa was smaller but a tremendous talent that got squandered by bad management.
>>
>>77169927
Abraham stuck in his high guard defense while Chrith loaded up on most of his shots, swinging for the fences all night. Eubank won every round. His power didn't phase Abraham.
>>
>>77169905
Gamboa did at least win an interim title at 135 before facing Crawford. He didn't directly jump two divisions like e.g. Brook did for the Golovkin fight

Crawford's resume is actually pretty similar to Golovkin's in that it's pretty deep but lacking marquee names. The difference is that Crawford is still 29

Yeah, but that's always been Abrahams style, except nowadays he doesn't have the youth and virility to make it effective.

I never take wins over blown up fighters seriously, that's why I never rate hagler. Always moans about Leonard, hearns and Duran being popular but he expected them to come up from lightweight/welterweight to fight him. Besides his wins over a blown up lightweight and a blown up welterweight his resume is paper thin
>>
>>77170089

Name a boxer under the age of 30 with a more solid top five wins than Crawford (Postol, Gamboa, Diaz, Beltran, Burns). Just Thurman and Canelo, probably. Lomachenko for example starts well with Walters and Russell Jr, then drops off a bit with Martinez and Sosa, and then you struggle to name a fifth

Gamboa is miniature next to Crawford and had a year long layoff. He was served to Crawford because he didn't have any standout name in his resume and it was a given that he'd beat gamboa.
Felix Diaz is like a younger gamboa but suffers from being the same height as gamboa as well.
Terence goes on to beat Beltran, a solid gatekeeper and then a literal who in Thomas dulorme, who up until that point sole significant win was against hank Lundy someone who Terence would go on to beat as well.

Most of those guys I just read about in the news or on forums or saw on undercards, but since about 2013 I've been following the amateurs more closely and generally discover prospects there first. The Americans turn pro young so you usually just see them in the Junior and Youth World Championships and read about the results of the annual National Golden Gloves (I don't think they are livestreamed)

Some Americans I've found this way who are less developed than the others I mentioned are Shakur Stevenson, Devin Haney, Money Powell IV, Teofimo Lopez, Antonio Vargas, Carlos Balderas, Ruben Villa, Darmani Rock, Richardson Hitchins, Marcus Carter, Dylan Price and three who are yet to turn pro in Delante Johnson, Marc Castro and Quinton Randall

Kovalev has only fought once in 2017, and if you have any eyes you'd be able to see he wasn't robbed.
Even if you for some strange reason believe that Ward's ONE low blow during the entire fight is the sole reason the fight was stopped (absurd idea) you should still be able to see that Kovalev was done. He was crying about perfectly legitimate body shots (http://i.imgur.com/y5zrdwy.gifv), stumbling all over the place, barely trying to protect himself, eating a lot of shots, and was out of stamina.

>But that fight was an abysmal failure of refereeing.

Give me a photo of low blows other than the very last punch. Even the one Weeks warned Ward about wasn't a low blow, it was a legal shot on the belt line.
If anything thank god Weeks was observant enough to see Kovalev whine about shots that didn't even come close to his nuts.

You guys who keep complaining about low blows in the match haven't even rewatched it to say there were any, you're just going off of knee jerk reactions and what other people have told you. Get pictures of all the shots you think were low blows, i'm willing to bet that in the process of trying to do so you'll realize that there weren't any more than the one.

>>
>>77174052
no I agree. a lot of those shots kova was trying to get called where phantom bullshit.
its his fault for trying to get a break. but there were at least 2 low blows. and a lot more questionable/borderline punches once ward saw the lower body as viable.
but that fight shouldn't have been stopped. at all. that was bullshit. If youre not gonna be sensitive about what could be low blows. how the fuck are you gonna jump the gun and call a fight when a dude is mildly gassed and taken a bit of hurt?
that fight was bullshit for being called early. thats the robbery. there is no way that fight should have been called. I mean some refs let a guy die out there and there has to be a balance. I get that.
but that stoppage was complete bullshit.
>>
>>77174134
Again, if you're going to claim there was more than one lowblow, get me the screenshots.

The stoppage was fine, it completes every check box needed to stop a bout.

>Kovalev responding very visibly to every body punch (To the point of crying low blows)
>Had been gassed for multiple rounds
>Stumbling all over the place due to fatigue and damage to the body
>Barely able to defend himself, especially not at the time of the stoppage where he was hunched over and no defending his head or throwing back punches
>Refused to take a knee, which forces Tony Weeks' hand, making it so that his only two choices are to let him take more of a beating (When at the end he was completely defenseless) or to stop the fight.

It's definitely not a bad stoppage, there were enough reasons for him to stop it. Calling it a robbery is just giving more excuses for Kovalev who already is making a thousand different excuses himself (Low Blows, Conditioning, Mental State, Early Stoppage) and there have been FAR worse stoppages in history.

More reddit delusion

Size- MCgregor is more than half an inch taller. I dont think this will come in to paly anyway, but he is more like 2 inches taller. More importantly, his wing span was a bit longer as well, giving him the reach advantage. (Again, probably not super important.)

Distance - Its really hard to compare the range of a fighter in MMA vs what he should or probably will do in boxing. While Nate isnt known for his wrestling or kicks, he still might do that, and so the fights took place in a more traditional MMA range which is a hybrid between wrestling and kickboxing range, just outside leg span distance. If Connor brings this to the ring, it will be a little different. Something boxing heads arent seeming to get the most is just because something sounds like it shouldnt work, doesnt mean it cant. For example, people keep saying "ah he has to get dirt. hes gotta bumb rushg floyd and try to land a lucky shot" but the thing is, thats what all of floyds opponents have been trying to do. So why would connor try that? What connor brings to the table is something else, and if boxers cant figure floyd out, maybe something completely foreign, nontraditional, and not necessarily practical could do the trick such as awkward distance and stance. Also, Nate and Floyd arent similar in output or in style. Floyd likes to wait, and then stick when its the perfect time. Where as nate, the bigger man, is known for a constant barrage of accurate little shots that slowly take the opponent down, which seemed to be Mcgregors cryptonite. So far in MMA , we havent seen Connor be stuck by something like what Floyd throws, and so comparing nate to floyd in that way isnt pointful. Nate style worked because of the height and reach advantage.
>>
>>77176763
You also covered Conditioning here. In diaz 1, Connor gassed mostly because he was throwing tornado kicks and shit like that. Before that fight, he hadnt seen much adversity and was willing to throw strikes that cost a ton of energy, because he didnt expect to go late in the fight. That coupled with the jib jab birrage of nate, and debuting at 170 (which stripped him of a ton of conditioning leading into the fight) lead to Connor gassing.

In DIaz 2, there was more clinch work and wrestling, which I dont know if you ever trained in boxing or mma, but 1 round of wrestling and hand fighting in the clinch is SOO much more grueling than anything else. Connors arm dexterity is something that will need to be worked on but as far as his actual gas tank goes, he will most likely be fine in the ring.

Stance- Like I said earlier, It wouldnt work by anyone else, or against anyone else, but a very accurate, powerful, and well timed (for mma standards) bigger man with a super foreign stance vs someone not known for their output or power, could be interesting. Connor isnt going to come out and stand just in a Karate stance, in fact, I bet he switches stance 5 times in the first minute. The reason I say that is because Its very tempting. When MMA fighters go up against specialists in training, its common for them to do this to throw off their opponent. Karate techniques dont work in boxing for the most part, but Connor might be able to mix them in at unpredictable times and from awkward angles that might do something. If he goes from TKD to karate throwing a step in 1 , 2 and then quickly adjusts to boxing, and then out to Muay Thai while mixing in traditional and untraditional strikes, he will probably get fucked up, unless he doesnt. the main point is its something different, and something different is what a lot of boxers do not bring. I got the feeling that Connor was hinting at this when he stood in a capoeira stance during their face off. A little "I bet you dont know what this is" type of thing. Again, The most important thing is It porbably ont work, but it is something different. IF you're expecting Connor to go out their and stand in a karate stance, and just stand around and expect to counter with karate counters, and strike with karate strikes and nothing else, you dont know what MMA is all about.

>Those last few lines. My sides are in orbit
>>
>>77176776
A-side B_Side shit - I dont give a shit. Honestly dont even know why this is a discussion. Is this a big deal in boxing? Floyd.

Clinch- Boxing vs MMA. While of course they are different, you have to give credit where credit is due. MMA isnt just barbaric meat heads trying to fuck eachother, its art and science, and ultimate skill. Connors clinch game is lightyears ahead of floyds. The issue is you cant do much in clinch in boxing, but Connor can disguise trips and shoves in that stance easily. Think about when you wrestle around with a little cousin or something. You can step between his feet and have him topple over because you're the better grappler. Connor can make Floyd mess up in clinch if he wants to, and the ref cant penalize Floyds mistake. This is honestly an advantage that people dont want to admit. Connor is actually the superior here, and might be able to do something interesting, though it certainly wouldnt be fight ending.

Another note - MMA fighters fight under boxing rules with boxing gloves all the time. This isnt his first time doing this, and he isnt unexperienced. In fact, a very common training method of MMA fighters is to fight a specialist in their area, Rolling with the JJ guys, wrestling the wrestlers, and boxing the boxers. Connor has more experience boxing boxers than Floyd has boxing MMA fighters. Of course thats not super important becaus ethe boxers are just better boxers, but it takes a little while for Boxers to adapt to the range. Check out Vasyl sparring with TJ if you havent already. I know you cant get much out of a sparring video but you do see Vasyl needing to adjust to it, because its foreign. If TJ had Connors power, itd be interesting for a minute or two.

The main thing is Floyd hasnt been exploited yet, so lets wait and see what happens. What Connor brings to the table might not be traditionally ideal, but neither is what boxers have brought, so lets see if something different is can be the cryptonite.

Hey,

I got a question, I wanna get back to boxing but there's something I'm afraid of : brain damages.
I did 2 years of Thai boxing already, then stopped for a few years and recently I was being interested to coming back.
The thing is I started to inquiry about brain damages, just to be sure you know, but every single time the question has been asked on a forum or whatever the answer always was : "Just don't spar too much/hard and don't go on the ring".
Okay so what ? Just heavy bag work ?
I don't wanna have hard times to do algebra in 5 years because I wanted to do a sport I love.
Is it that bad ? Is there a fighting sport I can do that is not risky for the brain ? I was thinking about wrestling or grappling.

what? you just go light. you can still spar. tell the guy you wanna go whatever percent. go light. wear headgear. heavy gloves.
like everyone else said. dont go too hard in the ring.
the brain damage thing is for sustained, however many hours a week in the ring taking hits at full force. you'll be fine.
if you get your bell rung lay off for a week or 2.
but really if youre just doing it for fitness and fun why spar at all? I hated getting my ass kicked all the time. I spar maybe twice a year. and thats just out of boredom because someone begs me.
pads and bags are all you really need anyways.

They have a contract with USADA to do drug testing and recently they've been strict which hurt a lot of them. Overeem a kicker boxer used to be jacked and now he's fat. A year ago I didn't care too much about this fight because I felt sure Golovkin would go through him and was bored of the endless talk of it. Now at 35 there's a hint that Golovkin is on the slide and Canelo has a chance. If he moves and lands a lot of punches to the body that could cause problems for Golovkin. I also just remembered how Mayweather fights, people calling him the greatest defensive boxer seem to forget one thing. Against Floyd you have a 3 rounds, maybe a 4th if you can switch it up. I would like to have seen him take Khan instead of Berto in his last fight, they are Khans best rounds. That aside, with 2 years ring rust and the unorthodox style of Mayweather, as dumb as it sounds, there is a chance McGoober could tag Floyd early.

Watching Mayweather is like watching a robot programming itself. Dull as fuck to watch, but the patterns, distance, speed and timing all come together till he has it sussed - it takes 3 rounds. There is a chance he could get the lucky punch in, purely by being a unorthodox, mad, Irish, cunt.

Don't talk yourself into it

Boxing fools people because it seems simple - two people punching each other - but gulfs in class are more evident than in most other sports. Just these past two weeks we've seen Taylor v Davies and Smith Jr v Barrera, where crude but powerful boxers get schooled by more technical opponents, and this almost always happens

It will become obvious to everybody within 60 seconds just how out of his depth Conor is
>>
>>77183560

Mayweather came straight out in round 1 against Canelo and started dictating the pace. He spent a lot of time in the pocket. They are worlds apart, if McGregor tries something wacky he'll deal with it.

I'm just trying to hype the fight to myself and justify watching it, I've enjoyed the shit talking so much and it was always going to be the main event. Conor probably realises his only chance is early, will miss wildly, gases in 3 and gets dropped by 6. But Floyd starts cautious and gets more cautious. Then and only then do the defensive tactics kick in

do you guys think secretly mayweather has been practising reading, because he bangs these out quickly, and listening the radio drops 2 years ago he was no where near this level.

if he actually spent some of his off time learning to read, thats actually kind of dope.

I know cus we are nerds on 4chan we just expect to be able to read, but I knew a few guys like 40-50 who worked construction their whole life and couldn't read. I know it was a big deal for one of the guys to learn how to read even in his 50's.

Went around the country speaking about adult illiteracy and learning to read even at an advanced age.

Conor McGregor's sparring partner says..."He doesn’t move like any other boxer. He’s powerful, fast and light on his feet ... He’s very good at getting in and out and connecting. He’s so quick on his feet it’s very hard to judge the distance with him."

I honestly feel sorry for you boxing cucks. Your sport is going to literally die on August 26. How many hours of your life have you wasted watching boxing fights, watching/reading boxing analysis, reading boxing books and articles? Wow. I could never imagine what it might feel like to see a sport which I love and cherish die right in front of my eyes.

Did Chocolotito fall off everyone's P4P list after one loss?

I certainly don't think he should be below Lomachenko of all people.
He's far more accomplished, arguably more skilled, and both only have one loss that is slightly discredited by the fact that their opponents fought dirtier than a pig's anus.

>>77187838
