Yeah, I really like the script California on the back of the helmets too. It was a university symbol that was kinda neglected by Nike who did our last uniforms, so I'm glad to see that UA did right by the fans there. I'm not as much of a fan the gloves though; I think they're a bit busy and it really contrasts with the clean look of the uniforms.

I only think Furman and Charleston Southern could make it because South Carolina is seeing a pretty significant population boom right now and those schools are situated in rapidly growing cities. There's no way Citadel goes FBS when they're basically the redheaded stepchild of the military academies and their football program is for the most part laughable.

IMO High Point will likely one day go FBS while the rest of the private schools in NC stay FCS. HPU wants to be the it destination school for northern rich kids, and an FBS team would go a long way (considering Duke and Wake already have them). Charlotte is a commuter school with no football history. ECU has played in the Peach Bowl, has multiple conference championships in recent memory, and is in a better conference to boot.

ODU has the same problem in the Hampton Roads area--there's a glut of athletic talent, but the area is traditional recruiting grounds for out of state P5 programs. IIRC, Texas and Florida schools both recruit there hard and gobble up all the talent.

With all this talk about FCS schools in NC, no one mentioned Western Carolina.

I think they'd have a decent chance at moving up; their old rivalry with App State is certainly ready-made for the jump.

But, as it has been said before, NC is already over-saturated so I don't see any school moving up within a decade at the earliest.

Ruffin McNeil was good, but the AAC is a place for young, exciting coaches. I understand why it happened.

He's been red hot on recruitment in the off season, and he will be reuniting with his old bowl-winning QB, Sirk, this fall.
