>>76592661
Lad, Kubica has been gone fir six years. Manage your expectations.
>>76592661
This is actually an a lose-lose for Hulk, because if Kubica is at his prior level, he should easily outpace Hulk. If that's the case, then Hulk's the guy beaten by a driver with 1.5 arms.
But if Hulk beats Kubica, it would just be put down to Kubica being slower because of the injury and unfamiliarity with modern F1 cars/tyres, so Hulk gets no improvement to his reputation.
Speaking of familiarity with tyres, the comments by Mark Hughes on his article are bretty clear cut:
>Kubica was 0.45 secs quicker than Sirotkin on his very first short stint.
>I'm told that the run on which he set that time was the first time he had experienced the soft tyre and felt he'd not maximised it and so asked for another set as he felt there was another 0.3-0.4s to come... But there were no more sets left.
>Have spoken with the team here in Montreal. It began as a nice idea from the team to help their former driver complete the circle. It was arranged months ago. The GP3 and Formula E tests were part of the preparation for the test, he trained massively hard to get fit for several months and worked a lot in the Enstone simulator (in which he was very fast). His outstanding performance in the actual test means that it has created a question which wasn't there before - about whether he does something further, with them. There is not a concrete plan yet to do so. But the next questions are obviously whether he would be ok through high speed corners for a race distance of, say, Silverstone or Suzuka, whether he could get enough steering lock on for the hairpin at Monaco. but these are questions that his performance has made suddenly of possible relevance. His performance in Valencia was quite amazing and described as absolutely consistent with the driver who last raced there in 2010. If anything happens, it's not imminent. Both sides need now to consider what they'd like to do next.
He also reckons more such tests may be on the cards, perhaps on tracks with quicker corners.

Hulkenberg I think should be as good as Heidfeld to Kubica. So pretty even.
lol what if Bob gets a podium before Hulk? What happens then? Death is always an option :DDDD
>>76592957
I read somewhere yesterday that the reason Heidfeld beat him in 2007 was because Kubica took some time to adapt to the Bridgestones, and that the Michelins suited his driving style better. Once he'd adapted (2008) he was easily able to beat Heidfeld
>>76593031
Also consider he is 8 years younger.
>>76592770
Actually getting a drive and scoring points would be great.

>>76592661
couldn't finish of Heidfeld with two arms before most of the time so no, I don't think so
>>76593031
2009 Heidfeld was was back at him again
the problem with Heidfeld and Kubica as teammates was that they had completely different driving styles, when one was doing well witht he car the other one was struggling and the team tried to keep it even by focusing on the driver that was doing worse
(Heidfeld had a softer driving style, Kubica a more aggressive one)

This would lead to a Ricci going somewhere else, I don't think Ferrari is a viable option or Sainz directly to Ferrari.

If this Le Mans is anything to go by, hybrids could be out sooner than you think.
>>76621932
I think Toyota would rather anything that increases their chances of finishing a race. Same with Honda, I wonder what they have in common?
>>76621932
This race was odd, to be sure, but hybrids have been doing fine in WEC for years.
The point is, though, motorsports does not generally go backwards in technology. These turbo-hybrid power units in F1 are fast and, Honda notwithstanding, also reliable.
>>76621958
What Honda really needs is to get up to speed with the new way of doing things in F1. All the systems these days are way too integrated these days for Honda to simply stay back home in Japan and ship engines to England as needed.

It was my goal after Canada/Le Mans to be more normie and less neet by not being permanently nocturnal.
Don't have to be up in the middle of the night for F1 until again until Brazil in November (US and Mexi GP's are doable as getting up early), so was trying to be a good boy until then.
But Indycar at Road America and Nascar memeing at Somona is temping to stay up for though....

>Look, we'll have at some point to discuss about our future line-up, that's public information. We have a long-term contract with Nico, and a contract for 2017, and all of 2017, with Jolyon
>But at some point we will have to review options. If by then, Robert becomes an option, we can have a look. As we speak, he's not on the list. He has many more things he has to accomplish so that he could be on the list
>This was a one-off, It's part of a process of recovery for Robert, where he's going to assess his limits – his physical limits, and also maybe his mental limits, what he has the appetite for going through also in terms of challenges, in terms of difficulties, in terms of risk, for himself for his image
>He's also done F2, GP3, LMP2, Formula E, so he's done a number things, and this was also part of the programme. But I don't want to create an obligation on Renault or Robert that there is a next step

>>76646278
What he said in English was that the test was to help Kubica find the extent of his limitations. But Bob himself said he felt he could drive without any limitations, so that doesn't seem to be an issue. As for him not being an option, that was also from the point of view of having Hulk on a long term deal, and Palmer on a contract for the whole year this year.
Mark Hughes seems to have bought into the Kubica hype, and I reckon he's a reputable journalist, so this statement basically seems like an effort from Renault to just calm the hype train down and not make people expect a midseason switch. Jonathan probably sent them a few shekels.

It's a GOAT track tbqh.
>>76647097
The only track that can really compare is Nordschleife, but for completely different reasons.
They're both GOAT.
>>76647097
As North American tracks go, I prefer Road America or Watkins Glen.
The corkscrew is about the only thing notable about Laguna Seca's circuit.
Watch some old CART races from 1990-1994 and you'll understand why Zanardi's pass in 1996 was notable(apart from breaking track limit rules that CART had never written down due to assuming the best way to pass someone would be on track), because passes there almost never happened.
There's a lot of people who want Laguna Seca back on the calendar in Indycar circles as well, but Sonoma International Raceway provides the same kind of racing and they don't have to deal with the local politics that Laguna does.

World Champions in the last 25 years by country:

>United Kingdom: 6
>Finland: 3
>Spain: 2
>France: 1
>Canada: 1
This isn't supposed to be a "Are you even trying?"-thing, I'm just wondering why there is a dominance of certain countries in the sport.
The UK has most World Champions overall, Brazil had a really good streak in the Seventies and Eighties. So.. why are some countries much more successful than others, and what things have changed in Brazil, for example?

>and what things have changed in Brazil
I think the sport has gotten a lot more expensive. Considering Brazil is relatively poor compared to most of the dominant F1 countries, I'd say there's just not enough money to back hue drivers.
I also think Senna's sennaing himself played a role.
Also iirc some anon mentioned Formula races having lost relevance in Brazil.
>>76651153
>team wins 5 years straight
Are you sure you can count properly, Michael?
>>76651180
Yeah, those reasons seem to be obvious, but something that goes against that is is Germany being utter dogshit until Schumacher showed up.
Well, apart from Wolfgang Alexander Albert Eduard Maximilian Reichsgraf Berghe von Trips in the 60s, but that seems like such an outlier.

Might just be the general interest of Germoney's population skyrocketing during Schumi's domination.
I don't remember how it was pre-schumi, but I believe with him, the demand for German drivers increased as well. There have been a pretty high number of German drivers since then. Even now, we have Wehrlein, NoPodiumberg and Vettel, while also having had Rosberg, Heidfeld, Sutil etc. in recent years. I think that's a pretty good number compared to other countries.

>>76651565
Didn't Germany's best drivers tend to go sportscar or touring car racing back then?
Just a random thought:
Toto's been talking a lot of shit about Nico lately.
Perhaps he's worried about Nico going to Ferrari, so he's trying to make him look bad.
It's a commonly held belief that Ferrari are worried about maintaining a positive team environment because spaghetti people don't work well with drama going on, and as soon as the (most likely bullshit) rumour of Nico joining Ferrari makes the tabloids Toto starts talking about how "viscous" Nico was, and how Nico was to blame for the bad environment inside Mercedes because of his "psycho games to destabilise Hamilton".

Heidfeld usually had BMW KERS in 2009, which gave some extra grunt but was a boat anchor for 6ft+ tall Robert. Kubica bossed in Brazil though, massively underrated drive.

>>76657695
They have to use the chicken because the FIA won't approve anything with a straight longer than 2km.
>>76657708
they would hang in the Limiter most of the time anyway
>>76657433
no
literally numale: the company. They don't give a shit about competition and would be hilariously exposed anyway since their mantra is just cram as many batteries in the fucker as possible.
>>76657695
I wish they'd use a faster version of S de la Verrerie. The straight into a near flat out left-right would be a really nice section
>>76657708
but Baku's straight is at least 2.5km? I know it's got kinks in it, but it's basically one straight.
>>76657695
So does the run-off at Paul Ricard actually do anything to the tyres or what? If it is seen as an improvement could we see it replace gravel as well as keep safety car park run off track owners happy?
Also remember to stay hydrated
>>76657719
The straight at Baku is 2.2km, but the FIA isn't not all one straight because it has corners.
Interesting Nico looks like he was on a soft rev limiter at 12.2k to 12.3k rpm
https://youtu.be/f2pg_zlzQjI?t=82
>>76657756
Grinder tarmac run-off when?
>>76657741
>but Baku's straight is at least 2.5km? I know it's got kinks in it, but it's basically one straight.
As I said above, they use the kinks as an excuse.
Also, the FIA also completely ignored that half the circuit doesn't meet the minimum track width required for an FIA grade 1 track.
>>76657772
Hilarious how lax the FIA went with Baku's inspection.
I was reading some of the posts here and I just want to point out to you barbarians how to correctly air-condition your room.
first of all open all your windows, second start a huge fire in the middle of your house, this will create a violent stream of air that, thanks to the energy loss due to its movement, will be fresh. Now take your shirt and pants off and enjoy
>>76657759
>2.2km
Actually come to think of it, Baku might be 2.5km, and Paul Ricard is 2.2km.
Looked both up yesterday when it got announced, but my memory has already shit the bed on it.

let's choose a(nother) track with only 2 overtake opportunities (with DRS)
Also, how are the spectators supposed to get to the track and park?
I've been to the track last summer, there is only one narrow twisty road that leads to the track, and there is almost no parking space.
