I tried to get into Monster Hunter games twice in my life and both times it was INCREDIBLY slow, grindy and absolutely autistic. When you're an adult you just have much higher standards because you have so many possibilities on how to have fun in your free time (youre free, have money, have the means to get anywhere, etc), unlike when you were a child and what you were allowed to do was heavily dependent on your parents, your school/friends etc.
In the end, gaming did not get worse but we just grew up. all the games that I loved as a child I loved because they were mildly fun instead of boring to death like spending time with my grandparents or parents, but I could never go back to playing stupid boring shit like Spyro as an adult, no matter how great they made that game, because its just a decent pastime but not a genuinely great experience.

Hence, gaming for adults is only a thing where they can fill a niche, at least in my opinion. like when you have to take te subway in the morning and evening and waste an hour of your life in it, because playing mildly fun games is much better than having nothing to distract you from the smell of piss in your shitty subway.

of course FM is different, but it barely even qualifies as a game by "game" standards. I'd never buy a device that's expensive and only useful for gaming at times when I probably dont even want to play. Home consoles for adults are a genuine mistake.

Anyway, perhaps your "new" PC will be decent enough for Dolphin, in which case you can just emulate Chronicles and Chronicles X. IIRC there's a fan patch that brought HD textures to Chronicles. To me it was the best JRPG of the previous generation; which obviously isn't much of a feat considering that there weren't that many and how much of a flop FFXIII was.

Is is as true 20 years ago as it is today. Your perspective has changed because you (and we in general) grew up. Actually it's even worse even for handhelds: smartphones and all the shovelware on it works wonders. Nintendo has exclusives to keep selling them and that's it. Home consoles have more of an argument as you can actually make shit on it that no smartphone in the universe can run. I'm not a fan of them as a PC user, but they're not going away. Some people tried to defend The Order 1886 by saying that it was a game for men who don't have much time, hence how short and assisted it is (as well as beautiful). If you can get it for like 5 or 10 then definitely but its pretty gross that its still 15 considering if you include early access it has been out for over 2 years.
Also early access cost me £6 or £7 when they first announced it so its literally more expensive now which is pretty crazy.
Its basically FM from the mid to late 2000s but a bunch of stuff switched to hockey terms and missing quite a few features of the newer FMs. Its decent don't get me wrong but unless you love hockey more than football it probably isn't worth it at least not at the current price.
Having said that I imagine you can probably get a key somewhere for a better price than direct through steam.

I know it's a long shot but it's so far into the season that I'm becoming hopeful. Celtic and Rangers are doing absolute shite and I'm in great form. If I win the Premiership in my first season I'll be stunned. I've done a Falkirk save back on FM15 and it took me 6 years to topple Leltic after being promoted.

Is there any good introductory literature on basic football tactics?

I've played 3 seasons now and I think I have tthe managerial side down, but I just annot work out tactics. I don't know how to look at my squad and assess who would be good at what role. It's impacting my enjoyment a lot because I feel like I have some kind of dyslexia for football tactics.

Anything I can read or you can recommend please let me know

There's less cheese in the last two versions (don't buy FM16 it's horrible). Bar a very select few exceptions, most players with great potential are at big clubs or at least locally big clubs, and hence are rather expensive unless you have shitloads of money. But there's not much point to manage at a big club anyway.

Not just FM but I was looking for printed material that can educate me in the ways of tactics.

I don't have much of an analysists brain, I learn better by being given information and theories and then being able to apply those theories myself.

Maybe it's the lack of crossover between football managers and having a penchant for academia that will limit my search for this.
