That wasn't a shot at Jacobs, Pirog was damn good. Jacobs held his own with him for a while and he's picked up a lot of experience since then.

Pirog has a different style than Golovkin but they both do a lot of that crazy Euro shifting stuff, be interesting to see if Jacobs learned anything from that fight that he can apply.
>>

Yeah, I'm surprised no one is talking about it more. It's an important fight for both since they're both a loss away from becoming completely irrelevant

why do british fighters opt to stay in their own little bubble?
are they afraid american based fighters will expose them?
>>
>>74562731
There's more opportunities in bongland, believe it or not.
Every fight here in the US is subject to heavy politics because more money's involved and the venues are more expensive.
>>
>>74562731
This is true of nearly every country and even the US on a regional level. Hometown fighters bring money into the local commissions which are frequently strapped for cash and it shows in the officiating.
>>
>>74562731
Because American competition is so poor.

Why fight DaQuaeanzius Jones at a roller derby arena in Utah when you can have a local fight here and do a 5K arena easy.
>>
>>74562731

The world class fighters don't stay here. Callum Smith is going to America to fight Anthony Dirrell. Lee Selby did a deal with Al Haymon. Eddie's taking Katie Taylor to America. If you're a young fighter who is domestic level on the way up then there's no point going to America, there is more money in Britain for you and this is where you're going to build a following.

It always used to be as a British fighter you had to travel to America to be a truly great fighter.

In a way I think it's mutual now. To be a great fighter in the USA/North America, I think you have to come to Britain (or at least Europe) now.

Joshua won't be going to Las Vegas, just like Klitschko didn't. Those fights are happening here.

Spence, Davis, Verdejo...you gotta come here now, it's gonna start working both ways.
>>
>>74563631
Do you people actually believe that
>>
>>74563861
Yes, American fighters aren't shit until they fight a Brit or Eastern Euro at the moment, that's an actual test for them an not just some Mexican can who mops floors for a living.

That counts for amateur or pro.
>>
>>74563631

Joshua probably will end up doing at least 1 fight in Las Vegas. To maximise your career you need the American PPV dollars

I'd say your chances of dying earlier/potential major injury are as high in the NFL as it is in boxing.
>>
>>74563631
What's really going to happen is...nothing. Joshua has no reason to come to the States and get jobbed by a horrible stoppage like in Wilder's last fight and Wilder has no reason to think he'll get a fair shake in the UK. We'll see them fight after one loses or gets old and wants to cash out.

Calzaghe didn't come to Vegas until he was well past his best and thinking about retirement. Roy Jones wanted no part of Michalczewski at home and the feeling was mutual. Packing your bags and going overseas in your prime just doesn't happen all that much.
>>
>>74564558

>>74564584

Anthony Joshua himself wants to go to Las Vegas, I've seen him say it several times. His sponsors would like it. It might not be Wilder because Wilder's ability is below average and Joshua would bury him but I expect him to go there at some point. UK promoters (Frank Warren) have promoted in the US before.

Ricky Hatton cleared a million buys in the UK fighting at 4am UK time. Once Joshua has mainstream traction off the Klitschko fight he won't go backwards until he loses.

I'm just bullshiting here but I imagine it's easier for a poor athletic kid to get a basketball/football college scholarship now than back in the day, and that's more appealing than winning 20 fights in unglamourous shitholes before you get any attention or money

Also in America boxing seems more like an emblem of 'toughness' than just another sport as it's mostly treated in Europe. Best example was Malik Scott v Chisora when Scott was banging on about growing up in the hood in Philly and Chisora said something like "I grew up in a middle class part of London where we never locked our doors and I still fuck people up"

He'll get mentioned on BBC sport or whatever, he's definitely bigger than most. Haye is probably still the best known active name in the country though and they were promoting far more heavily to normies for this than they usually do via The Lad Bible and such. It's the first time I can remember where I've had my friends actively start a conversation with me about boxing and ask my opinion because they know I watch regularly.

However much of a shitfest it was I'm actually pretty glad people who don't normally watch did enjoy it. We've had a bad run of the biggest fights in this country being fucking awful so it's a nice change.
>>
>>74580841
I enjoyed it myself, but probably because my expectations were so low that it couldn't disappoint me. I also enjoyed the fact that Bellew shut down the inevitable Haye vs Joshua match-up.

With only Schaefer and Sauerland signed up, call me sceptical that it will actually represent the best of the best. I'll get more excited when Arum or Hearn or DiBella commits some of their fighters to it

I like that the whole thing will be completed by May 2018 though. The Super Six dragged on way too long

I would guess that one of the two divisions involved will be super middleweight again, due to Sauerland's involvement. Maybe lightweight as the other?
>>
>>74584445

Interesting. They'll have to get some big names involved for it to be a success. The super six went on too long but says they want it to be between September and May.
>>
>>74584884
They seem to have accounted for that

>There will be a pool of 'Reserve Boxers', who will be contracted and made public. The Reserve Boxers will always be available at event the shortest notice should a Boxer have to withdraw for any reason. The Boxers on the reserve list will be Boxers who didn't quite make it in to the tournament, or, who performed well in previous rounds despite losing.

Again, Sauerland only have 2 fighters at 154 and nobody relevant at Cruiser either. I find it very hard to believe they'd push something none of their fighters would be involved in, given the challenges involved in getting other promoters to actually agree to something where their fighters might lose.

Also I think you can safely say no world champions will be involved, since fitting in a defence in the middle of that schedule if they get to the final will be a nightmare.

Schaefer said that he was hoping to have at least two world titlists in each weight class. Whether it will pan out or not I don't know, but they are setting their sights high and the money on offer should be more than enough to entice some top names

Schaefer has also repeatedly emphasised that the tournaments are open to anyone from any promotional outfit, including Golden Boy and Top Rank

>>
>>74602194
He will, it's just a question of whether he'll still be any good. I wouldn't be surprised to see his comeback end up like Haye's, even though he's younger than Haye

He could fight as early as July if he eats at a deficit and starts training everyday. It's just fucking stupid to put on so much weight when he finds it hard to stick to intense training for a long period of time. Bellew and Wilder both very winnable fights if he cares enough.

Being a good journey man means you are able to lose but not take a lot of punishment.

This fucking Fraud is being marketed by Sky as a boxing genius. They all call him "The Knowledge"

On the Sky Sports Ringside Toe to Toe boxing podcast on Wednesday, which he is the main presenter, they ask him questions every week to test his knowledge.

This past Wednesday while in the Knowledge segment of the podcast, the producers made a mistake, the were telling him the answers to the questions through the headphones, but they had the mic volume up too loud, this fucking fraud is literally being told answers to questions through headphones and the being fobbed of on the boxing public as some kind of genius.

>FFS, women's boxing is such a waste of time

Not if it gets people to watch and become interested who never would otherwise, which is obviously the idea of signing her. I'd be willing to bet more people across the country have heard of her than any other Warren fighter by a country mile so fair enough she should be front and centre of promotion.

>>
>>74618147
>I'd be willing to bet more people across the country have heard of her than any other Warren fighter by a country mile

Which is a result of women's sports being unnaturally shoved down our throats. The way Sky Sports were cooing over Katie Taylor last week as she beat up on some dyke part-timer was vomit inducing and it'll no doubt be the same on every major BT show with Nicola Adams now too
>>
From the new Warren article:

>Myself and Billy Joe Saunders will be ringside for the middleweight unification between the multi-belted Gennady Golovkin and the WBA regular champion Daniel Jacobs.

>Bill’s next move will become clearer when the arm of the winner is raised in New York.
>>
>>74618212
No it's because she's the literal only 2 time Olympic gold medalist in British boxing history you fucking sperg. The only time half the country pays any attention to any sport at all let alone boxing. If any male boxer had won 2 Olympics in a row I'd expect them to be pretty well known too.

Fair enough the standard wasn't very high, but she took advantage of the weaker field in a new sport and has a profile not many other people can match because of it, of course major broadcasters would be stupid not to take advantage when they're trying to promote to people who haven't heard of any of Warren's stable.
>>
>>74618293
>Fair enough the standard wasn't very high

That's an understatement. Winning gold at the British Schoolboys Championships is a more impressive achievement
>>
>>74618346
It'll all be for the best if it's a springboard for BT to actually make a success of it to be honest. Anything to give Sky some decent competition, and actually getting people to tune in at all is part of that. Plenty of niche exciting BoxNation cards like last night will be on anyway, shouldn't bother you so much.

Oh, thought I read Garcia vs Thurman was 3.1m, my mistake. 5m for Yamanaka too according to local media. Crazy either way though.

>Also how much do they pay their fighters in Japan?

No idea, it's very big there but their biggest cards are usually on free tv and that's the way most people watch rather than going since they're heavily connected with being a thing to chill and do on the public holidays. If you actually want a proper answer tweet this guy, knows everything there is to know

https://twitter.com/asianboxing
>>
Rigondeaux should pursue Yamanaka. He's fought before in Japan so they know him
>>
>>74620675
Looking like Yamanaka will fight Nery which some would argue is the 2 best in the division and should produce fireworks, looking forward to that a lot since Yam is great to watch for a manlet. No way he'd fight Rigondeaux, boring fight he'd probably lose for no money.
>>
>>74620749
Yamanaka vs Nery will be amazing. I predict that both of them touch canvas, and I think Nery will win in the end

Manny Rodriguez will probably win the IBF this year too, so him vs Nery will be a big Mexico vs PR rivalry down the line

Lemieux gets really good ratings on HBO, so i doubt it will be as bad as you think.

That being said, their has been no build up or hype for this fight, so casuals won't tune in.
>>
>>74560883
First of all he already ducked him when he vacated the belt, the last offer was a bullshit offer they specifically made to be shot down by GGG's people so they can try to save face and not look like a pussy.
The projected earning for that fight was 100 million, so when Oscar offered them 10, it was a giant "fuck you, we want almost all your money so we know you are not going to take it but we needed to do this so we have an excuse of why Canelo's not a ducking pussy that idiots will want to believe".
>>
>>74560931
Same thing for Canelo, he is never going to make as much money against anyone else than with GGG.
>>
>>74623685
>Lemieux gets really good ratings on HBO

Really? They didn't even show his fight against N'Dam and the Golovkin PPV was a bomb

When did he get good ratings on HBO?

I see this getting ~700k viewers
>>
>>74624353
150k PPV buys isn't really a bomb. It made back its money.

The one against Jacobs might be, though. Jacobs held out for more money, and the purses haven't been released for any of the fighters.
>>
>>74624353

I thought his fight with Rosado did good numbers.
>>
>>74624353
>>74624504

Ya i just checked. Lemieux vs Rosado peaked at over 1.15 million viewers.
>>
>>74624373

150k is a flop. Tom Loeffler was targeting 200k minimum before the fight.
>>
>>74624373
>It made back its money.

Just about, and some people claim it did less than 150k buys

I think the Jacobs PPV will bomb too. Jacobs is rumoured to be getting $3m and Golovkin is presumably getting at least the same, plus Gonzalez is on there, so it would need about 250k buys to break even, yet I don't think it has any more of a buzz than the Lemieux card
>>
>>74624533
>>74624583

you guys forget that those ppv buys are like $70 each.

Both had guaranteed purses of only like 1 million each, plus it sold out. That fight definitely made money.
>>
>>74624609
Golovkin's PPVs are cheaper. The Lemieux one was $50 and the Jacobs one is $55. In the Lemieux fight, Golovkin was guaranteed $2m and Lemieux $1.5m, so 150k is cutting it close when you consider that the network and cable provider take 50% of the profits right off the jump
>>
>>74624725

they sold out Madison Square garden, probably got a lot of sponsorship money, and probably made some good money off international TV rights and such.

I think that event definitely made money
>>
>>74624804
They also had to rent the venue, pay the sanctioning fees and buy advertisements

It probably didn't lose money but I doubt K2's profit margin was as high as they had hoped

And it will be even harder to make a profit for this Jacobs fight
