>Broner-Granados Now at 147 Pounds, Not Original Weight of 142

>Adrien Broner said during a conference call Thursday that he won’t have any difficulty making weight for his fight against Adrian Granados.

>Their February 18 fight in Cincinnati initially was supposed to be contested at a maximum weight of 142 pounds, but Broner demanded an increase, after the fight was made, to a limit of 147. The weight was changed, according to Granados, because Broner got sick during training camp and would’ve had too much trouble making 142 pounds.

Hmm

>“[Hearn] pushed him into this,” Wilder told a group of reporters during a break in the trial for his lawsuit against Alexander Povetkin in Manhattan. “Of course. Come on, man. Joshua didn’t call Klitschko out. Hearns did that. [Hearn] is like the new PlayStation, with the VC goggles, and Joshua’s just a fighter.”

>“David Price in the making. Look what happened to David Price. Don’t misword me on it. The way they structured David Price, moving him so fast, the whole England was behind him, when he wasn’t really proven for real. He wasn’t no killer. He ain’t really fought no killer. But they had him as the biggest thing in England. And look who come along? How old Tony [Thompson] was? Forty-something years old.”

>“I think it’s Eddie Hearn more so than Joshua wanna fight these guys,” Wilder said. “Eddie Hearn is making a killing off of these fighters. He knows what he’s doing. When you have a promoter that even before your fight you’ve got another damn fight lined up, come on, man. The boy don’t hardly get no kinda time off and break.

They should be releasing it pretty soon if they're doing it for GGG vs. Jacobs, the fight is up in a month.

>>74154560
Not really. Portner is naturally "bigger". He's about an inch taller and he fought at middleweight in the amateurs. He fought Golovkin and lost.

Since Broner was the A-side, he drained Porter down to 144 for the fight.

Hell, Weight Problem didn't even make weight for the vacant belt against Theophane.

To me that record reeks of suspicion. Sitthiprasert's got an awful lot of career 0-1 guys on his record along with an unknown and a guy with no last name. Even in the US it's pretty easy to make shit up in small-time states without online documentation, I'd say those are likely aliases or even fictional fights. God only know what ind of shit goes on behind the scenes in a place like Thailand.

That being said, there are gyms all over the place that are know as suppliers of The Other Guys. It's pretty common for managers to have relationships with certain gyms that provide no-hopers and carer losers to pad prospect records and give easy wins to name fighters that need to get back on track before they can score another big fight. As unpleasant as it is to think about there's still a lot of match-fixing at this level of boxing, especially when it's not televised.

Friendly reminder that GGG is still an unproven hype job.

Friendly reminder GGG ducked Carl Froch and Andre Ward.

Friendly reminder GGG made KB move up TWO weight classes to fight him, but GGG refused to move up 1 to fight Andre Ward.

Friendly reminder GGG took step aside money from Cotto and CANELO numerous times instead pressuring them to fight.

Friendly reminder GGG ducked Lara.

Friendly reminder that GGG is being protected by HBO.

Friendly reminder that Sergio Martinez would have iced GGG.

Definitely not, it's worth a lot to GGG's camp to get that belt before Canelo does because of how much it strengthens their negotiating position for that fight being the undisputed champion. It'll more be viewed as an extension of that fight than an entity in itself.

>>74157143
1. Amateur career speaks for itself
2. Froch never wanted it and Ward was never serious about it
3. Ward said he's not fighting at 168 anymore
4. He's been pressuring Canelo for the past year and Cotto lost before he could really put pressure for a fight, and the WBC allowed both of them to avoid mandatories instead of making them face ggg
5. Lara is a Cuban bum who only talks for attention
6. I agree

They both would have taken it but GGG insisted on a catchweight so that he could make it look like he was being ducked because he knew full well neither of them could make 164 realistically. Posted about that in the last thread. Not sure what the point was bidding so much. They're seriously under estimating Hughie Fury to consider going to Manchester anyway because it will boost Parker's UK profile. Hughie is an awkward fight and it seems like they're looking past him a bit.

Why doesn't Haye fight Briggs, who's ranked higher than him?
>>
>>74160255
Its always nice to see unification fights get done. Is it just me or have they come back in fashion lately?

I wonder if Hearn will get a relevant fight for Yafai at 115 this year or let him milk his title a little bit first. I'm thinking his first defence will be against Miguel Gonzalez, since he has already fought in the UK once before (losing a wide decision to Paul Butler)
>>
>>74160382
He's clearly scared of the true champ
>>
>>74160382

Sky didn't think it was PPV worthy but were prepared to pay for Tony Bellew. Haye will have the option of fighting for the WBO title afterwards and if Briggs wins the WBA regular title then maybe that will be resurrected
>>
>>74160422

I think Haye KOs Parker.
>>
>>74160382
The Bellew fight is going to be very lucrative for them. If the Briggs fight is still there afterwards then I expect he'd jump at it
>>
>>74160422
>Sky didn't think it was PPV worthy but were prepared to pay for Tony Bellew.

Wrong, Sky paid for the Bellew fight to stop Haye fighting Briggs on ITV PPV. That was their original choice rather than the Eubank IBO crap.
>>
>>74160382
LET'S GO CHAMP!!!!
>>
>>74160431

He might do, it's difficult to know how good Haye is now but I think he is more skillful than Parker but then Parker is young. I would have Parker beating Hughie Fury but that's a tricky fight for him which he could lose
>>
>>74160434
Agreed, this will be Haye's trajectory

1. Bellew
2. Briggs
3. Hugie/Parker winner
4. Misc interim fight
5. Joshua

Then retirement.
>>
>>74160445

Would have sold better than Eubank but Briggs is too old, he got to where he is in the current pecking order off the back of a catch phrase
>>
>>74160492
Honestly I think Briggs deserves a nice pay day after his relentless self-promotion campaign over the last few years. Just hope he doesn't get hurt
>>
>>74160492
Oh no doubt it would have been a joke of an actual fight, but it's the world's easiest sell and the casuals would have lapped it up, with that undercard enough to keep the hardcores happy. Would have been a pretty solid entry for ITV, which is why it was such a good move for Sky to pay whatever Haye was asking.
>>
Where does Khan go from the Canelo loss?
>>
>>74160509

I wonder if Sky will be more relaxed about ITV competition now after they didn't break 100k. I bet Eddie Hearn was looking at what Al Haymon is doing with putting boxing on free tv in the US and panicing about it. The blue screen issue was suspicious as well.
>>
>>74160538
If he had two braincells to rub together he would've jumped at the Brook fight. Fuck knows now. If Garcia gets past Thurman I'm sure he'd be happy to spark him again for another pay day
>>
>>74160538

Might just wait for Danny Garcia as he seems to think he could beat him in a rematch
>>
>>74160549
>The blue screen issue was suspicious as well

Nah much as I joked around about that after the fact that was people not following ITV's instructions. You had to go online and input all your details on their website to receive it, I did and had no problems. People who just bought it with their remote got the blue screen.
>>
>>74160549
>I wonder if Sky will be more relaxed about ITV competition now after they didn't break 100k

I'm sure they understand the value of having lots of B players in the game, and actively encourage them being there just so long as it's clear they're the best.
>>
>>74160561

He should've fought Alexander when he had the IBF title.

Khan is an idiot.
>>
>>74160568

This sounds like a meme answer but it's really not. He's probably the best lightweight ever, won the lineal welterweight champion in a one-sided drubbing of Leonard, and even managed to beat Barkley and go the distance with Hagler at Middleweight. If he'd managed to have the same consistency and discipline he did in his early years with Arcel throughout his entire career he'd be the absolute undisputed best ever. As it is his resume is pretty incredible.
>>
>>74163599

This. I dunno, I have great cardio when I'm working out and running, but as soon as Im in the ring, I can't breath properly and over exaggerate everything.

I think Im just not calm in sparring and it makes me gas quick.
>>
>>74161167
b-blacked?
>>
>>74163701
I get too angry when I start getting hit.

Being calm saves so much energy. I gotta learn to relax when I start getting hit.

I'm much better than I was before. I'm sparring 6 rounds and don't feel truly gassed until like round 5. Round 6 just feels like hell though. And my manlet ass has no choice but to fight inside so I eat a decent amount of jabs. Eating those jabs has helped with the head movement though.

I think just more rounds under my belt is what will help fix those problems.

Since June of 2016.
Best decision I've made in my life.

I used to be a picky eater, always popping amphetamines and doing fuck all for my health, worried about the women who have wronged me and the ones who aren't fucking me right now.

Now I'm at the gym 6 days a week, drug and cigarette free (some weed here and there) eating chicken breast and broccoli every single day of my life. I walked into that gym just thinking about losing some weight and now I'm training to compete and hopefully go pro.

>>74163948

4 rounds.

I wouldn't want to compete unless I could dedicate myself properly. IE, running and in the gym 5-6 days a week. Plus sparring atleast twice a week.

No you don't guess, it's a fact. Duran was already an ATG before he moved up to welter to beat Leonard. Even after he quit against SRL he went on to beat the likes of Iran Barkley and destroyed Davey Moore despite being way past his prime

Is PBC going to be a success or end up dying?

It's great for boxing that quality fights like Thurman vs Garcia are going to be on free TV. Errol Spence Jr vs Leonard Bundu got 6 million viewers on NBC last year. But how are they going to make the money back? Get NBC/CBS to start paying for PBC? Increase PPV numbers on Showtime? Launch a subscription app?

Wilder's promoter Lou DiBella is on board with free tv:

>“If anyone’s paying attention, pay-per-view is fading,” DiBella said. “It’s dying. There hasn’t been a major pay-per-view with big numbers, truthfully, since Mayweather against Pacquiao [4.6 million buys in May 2015].

>“So do I think [Joshua-Wilder is] pay-per-view? No. I think pay-per-view is counter intuitive for a big fight. I think that fewer eyeballs see it. The reason you’re asking this question is because Eddie Hearn [Joshua’s promoter] went out there and said that Deontay’s gotta be built better so that it’s a pay-per-view fight. Go fuck yourself. We fought Eric Molina on [Showtime]. After Eric Molina lost to Deontay Wilder, they put him on pay-per-view. I’m not saying that’s not OK. If people over in the UK wanna pay big money every time out, to pay for Joshua, it’s their business. But more people saw Deontay Wilder’s last fight on free TV than all of the pay-per-views [of Joshua]. … But do I think Deontay and Joshua belongs on pay-per-view over here? No I really don’t, actually. I think it belongs on broadcast television.”

But how many viewers would Wilder vs Joshua in the US have to get on broadcast tv to justify it not being on PPV financially? The UFC grew its brand with basic tv but PPV is still where it gets most of its money

Spike, Showtime and CBS are the only ones actually paying for the fights, I think

It should just be:

Showtime (big premium shows)
CBS (big free shows)
Spike (B-tier shows)
FS1 (Toe-to-Toe Tuesdays)
ESPN2 (Friday Night Fights)

That way they have plenty of dates for fighters of all levels, but not too much confusion about scheduling. NBC and FOX had some good ratings, but they're redundant when you have CBS who is already affiliated with Showtime

>people over in the UK wanna pay big money

Why does pay per view have to be "big money" ?

American ppv's are fucking 70 bucks and the uk ones are like ~20.

Id buy so many more payperviews if they were 70 dollars.
>>
>>74175145
Honestly even £20 is pushing it for me. £15 used to be the norm but they've been creeping upwards lately. I have a feeling Joshua vs. Klitschko will be £19.95 or thereabouts

With Ace Stream providing such a good quality service these days I'm not going to just blindly buy every PPV any more. If I'm going to be paying extra on top of my various subscription services I expect pick 'em fights between high profile fighters and deep undercards

If we had to pay ~£55 like the Americans do, I would not buy any of them, not even something like Golovkin vs. Canelo with Gonzalez vs. Inoue as a co-main
>>
>>74173031
>>74175145
>>74175415

With PBC I think they're buying time slots on all the free to air channels and it's only premium channels (showtime) that pay them. So they're getting 3 million views for boxing but presumably pissing through the investor money. If a big fight is not on PPV that means you have to make a lot of money in advertising to make it viable.

I think they should buy slots on NBC for exposure then have a $10 subscription service for big fights. I don't see what Al Haymon's end game is at the moment.
>>
>>74175415
Agreed, if Matchroom actually stacked their cards with 50/50 fights I'd probably be more than willing to pay. As it stands though their general practice is to put 1 maybe 2 max good fights on then fill the rest with bullshit defences and showcase fights.

Completely not worth the money considering how much I already pay for Sky and BoxNation. Acestream will do me fine.
>>
>>74175631

Joshua vs Klitschko will probably do 1 million buys though and the main event + 1 good undercard fight formula is generally getting them 600k buys now so it doesn't matter if some people watch acestream. If Eddie puts more good fights on there he makes less money because the buy rate won't increase enough.
>>

I mean I completely understand why he does it from a business perspective, but from mine as a boxing fan, his PPVs are shite and I won't be buying one any time soon. To give him some credit though Joshua vs Klitschko is a better main event than anything he put on last year by a country mile.

Fucking awful. But then I'm a /pol/ack who's very easily triggered by the sight of them so maybe I notice it more and see the bigger picture all the time.

If it makes you happy though, the vast vast majority of the country (all the places you couldn't find on a map if asked, where nothing happens of note) are very comfy. I moved to the countryside, it's beautiful here. Also, Muslims are literally second tier citizens, they never get involved with anything of note, so any public events you have to actually pay for are usually unaffected by their presence.
>>
>>74176675
Eggington vs. Malignaggi is a weird one in that it's a tough one to pick yet completely uninteresting at the same time. I don't want to see old man Malignaggi get the shit beaten out of him by Sam fucking Eggington but I also don't want to see him pitty-pat his way to a unanimous decision either. And as much as I'd like to see Dirty Derry chin Davies I don't think it's gonna happen. And who the fuck is Ricky Summers?
>>
>>74176726

>>74176726

Ohara Davis vs Derry Matthews will probably be a boring 12 round decision win for Davis. Think Eggington might knock Malignaggi out if he can build on his Gavin performance

>>
Who would win if they were the same size, Sugar Ray Robinson or Muhammad Ali?

>>
>>74176831
it's colonial baggage in Britian, we have Muslims from India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and they hate us and our way of life. Towns and cities are segregated down religious lines and left-wing political groups like Labour are happy to support these Islamic communities if they come out and vote for Labour.
>>
>>74176905

The point I was trying to make is that even in his prime, Malignaggi fell well short of elite.
>>
>>74176851
Eggington is European level at best
>>
>>74176905

This is why it's a good fight. Eggington got out boxed by Bradley Skeete for 12 rounds but he showed something extra against Gavin. If he is going to get the sort of fights he wants to move onto then he has to be able to deal with an outside fighter like Malignaggi. Malignaggi technically better but no power and at the end of his career

A hedge fund called Waddle & Reed set aside over $900 million to fund Haymon's venture and burned through over $400 million last year alone. Apparently it came to light after their shareholders got pissed and sued. Not a sustainable model to put it mildly.

If Haymon's going to make this work he'll have to to stir up a cable bidding war for the TV rights portion of a UFC-style model of programming with regular shows leading into monthly PPVs. Disney is paying about a billion dollars a year for Monday Night Football, so it is conceivable that a network like FS1 might plunk down a few hundred million a year to try and compete with ESPN. A significant cable contract would generate tons of cash, remove the need to pay for airtime, and could well make PBC viable.

Unfortunately I think another likely scenario is that Haymon is using the money to get as many premium fighters under management contracts as possible. Then when the whole thing implodes the hedge fund takes the blame and he walks away with a shitload of fighters he can use to leverage PPV bucks out of HBO and Showtime. It's amazing that things have even gotten to this point because his dual role as manager to the fighters and advisor to the networks(read: promoter) is on its face an obvious violation of the Muhammad Ali Act.

Maybe he'll be able to pull it off and land an exclusive tv contract then. He put PBC on virtually every channel, which to me seemed odd that he was spreading it so thin rather than focusing on 1 or 2 channels but it would make sense if he wants to show proof of drawing power to each channel. Fights like Thurman vs Porter and Thurman vs Garcia are the best fights he can make so if he's going to get a deal now is the time to say we're getting 3 million viewers somebody has to pay

Pretty much how I see it, I think spreading the fights over all the channels was done to try and play them off each other down the road. The clock is ticking fast with investors looking to recoup their money bu he'll be in a strong position with Spence-Bundu pulling in 6 million viewers on NBC alone. The UFC borrowed $600 million to bring their show to cable and now it's paying off, who's to say it won't work for Haymon?
