Ken Griffey Jr imminent Hall of Fame election edition
>Barryfags already BTFO by based griffey
loving every laff
Ive never had a gum that blows bigger bubbles. It was actually made by the Cubs to help players quit chewing back in the 70's so its one of the chewiest gums out there. Every flavor is great you should try some.
You can find it in card shops too 90% of the time too. Card shops usually have a lot of cool shit, too bad most of them are shutting down. You can buy them in bulk for fairly cheap online.
i can't wait for wednesday bros
best hitting fine, but give me Pudge any day over him
Piazza's 1997 was his only season better than Posey's 2012 with the bat, but they were different eras in hitting and pitching. Posey still has time, but I wouldn't bet on him doing anything like that '97 season in today's pitching and drug testing environments.
Me either. I hope Bagwell can make it in also
Sour apple all day
More of a seeds guy though to be honest (pic related > everything else)
>tfw you sat out for 2 innings
>other players only sat out 1 inning
He always had one of two flavors.
David brand is arguably the GOAT
>the 5 gallon buckets of seeds in HS
>farting in the empty bucket and opening it on the bus
>having to make awkward small talk with the coaches
Make sure you join a beer league. Some of the other ones are too stringent, too many try hards. Playing in a beer league is more laid back, good banter, and a good way to meet new people. Last year was the first time I didn't play, I'm playing again this summer.
>tfw you were mediocre to okay but the rest of your team was absolute dogshit
those fuckers made me play every position
i fucked up my elbow pitching in relief and i'm pretty sure my knees are shittier because i had to catch every other game
Christ, you're young. I remember the opposing coaches smoking cigarettes behind the dugout and all they yelled to you was "HEY, look alive out there, look alive!"
I know that feel
One year our best pitcher quit and I was the only one left. There were multiple times where I had to start two games on one day, like wtf I'm not japanese I'm not built for that shit.
This is probably his most famous moment for M's fans at least. He was out for several months in '95 but was godly in the ALDS
look up a highlight video and the video of him at the home run derbies.
>tfw wanted to pitch
>but coach put me all around the infield becuase that's where I was good
>tfw threw fast but only had a terrible curveball as your other pitch
i only pitched because the kids on my team were weak or inaccurate as hell
when we won and i was pitchng no one said shit but whenever i got rocked people would act like i was only pitching because i threw fast
like i didn't want to pitch you assholes i had to
a lot of pressure, and people blame you for everything
Little league pitching sucks. There was always one lunatic trying to windup like Hideo Nomo, one kid who always jumped when he pitched, one tall fat kid who could throw 75 but couldn't get one in the strike zone to save his life, and another kid who hit 6 batters in a row and his coach/dad just said "It's alright, Jay, just follow through! It's okay buddy! Just follow through."
>one tall fat kid who could throw 75 but couldn't get one in the strike zone to save his life
These guys scared the shit outta me becuase they always found my head or legs.
>and people blame you for everything
I never got that, but I was usually on teams with good kids and good coaches (thank fuck). But yeah, it is overrated.
The best pitchers were the ones who just threw strikes and kept the defense involved. Those kids who racked up 10+ K's a game were ok but they always walked another 20 as well. And then your standing in the field bored as shit while runs keep getting walked in.
thanks, i need a steady supply of (You)s to keep me going
and yeah my one problem in any level of baseball was that i always seemed to be on shit teams
i wasn't a world beater or anything like that but some kids i played with wouldn't have made the bench on most teams
how many kids did you know who could even throw a curve ball at an age level that curveballs were banned at? it's not that easy when you have tiny hands
The kid was able to play down a year cause of "little league age" which let kids born in may play down a level, so essentially he was 13 playing with 11 and 12 year olds
that rule doesn't exist anymore
>umpiring little league game for 13 year olds
>this kid comes up to bat with the bases loaded
>"lmao look at this faggot I bet he's gonna strike out"
>mfw he hits a grand slam to dead center on the first pitch
>mfw he rounds the bases like its fucking nothing
OFFICIAL /mlb/ HoF Vote
>vote for as many as you like. i only included the ones on the tracker to keep most of the shitters away
Yeah it was because the entire last part of the season was insane and it was the M's first time ever in the playoffs. The fans stormed the field after they won the tiebreaker to make it to the playoffs
That's different m8, everyone wanted to think OJ didn't do it so they let him off the hook
Everyone wants to prove barry did it but they couldn't so again, shut ur whore mouth when ur talking about the GOAT
it doesn't matter if he roided or not. the hall is a museum for baseball, not some holy site for only the most holy christians to ever play the game. there are a ton of scumbags in the hall right now.
not including barry in the hall is like not bringing up slavery in american textbooks and museums.
just cause he doesn't get a plaque doesn't mean you have to ignore him
giving him a plaque would be like honoring slavery in textbooks and museums, think about the message it'd send to current players
>think about the message it'd send to current players
The rules that exist now that didn't exist back then send the only message to current players that they should need. Nobody kept the greenies out of Hank Aaron's body and nobody's using him as a public excuse to use them now.
>think about the message it'd send to current players
are you a current player? who are you to speak for them? do you honestly think a current player is going to give a shit if bonds and clemens are in the hall or not? do you think if they are allowed in they will suddenly think its ok to roid up? oh and even if they did, good luck not testing positive or shit getting leaked sooner or later.
and the story on roids has already been told. its bad. every player has heard it.
I fucking hate the anonymous cucks.
Put your fucking name with your votes fucking cowards.
lmao i know hypocritical i that sense, but this HoF voting should be completely public since these guys are always openly bashing players and owners in their writing. Pin a name to the people active in the process.
On a random imageboard for discussion, you don't need names. They're just opinions being shared.
I'm sure close to most of the ballots will be public within the next few years. This tracker thing has gotten pretty popular and the amount of voters revealing theirs has gone up every year.
Some might change their mind about it though if they are idiots and can't handle the bantz
>>farting in the empty bucket and opening it on the bus
Holy fuck I thought I was,the only one who did that. I also got a kick out of farting into water bottles in the locker room, quickly capping them and then uncapping and forcing the fart into the bsck of the fan in the meeting room and watching teammates reactions as the stench slowly made it to the other side of the room
Almost cleared the the whole room one time.
It was the single greatest achievement of my baseball career
How would you feel if the MLB was replaced by this
imagine teams like shanghai or vladivostok (that one was just to fill out the Sino division) would actually be financially sound and have the fanbase to sustain them
please keep the frustration that your team didn't make it as part of the three northern WL divisions to a minimum
ploffs are memey as fuck and irrelevant except for the fact that the world series is literal now
>tfw the local shack during my minor league years was a horrible health hazard
>tfw all the gum packages had these red spiders inside them all the time
>tfw still ate the gum anyways because it was so good
Childhood memories man.
I played baseball as a kid, and hated gum and sunflower seeds
I never fell for the chewing meme
That;s the really fucked up part about it.
The typical series length is 5 though so they aren't flying back and forth between two two game series in shanghai and Munich every week
Trout is missing the personality. Regardless of stats, Griffey was able to become a national sports hero in part thanks to his jubilant personality.
Trout has as much personality as a fish. He will never have the fame that Griffey did at his peak.
Not as good as last year. No David Price hurts them a lot, especially since the Yankees and Red Sox have improved. Will challenge for the division though and probably end up a wildcard team.
Do you two idiots understand the difference between gambling (either actual in Rose's case or perceived in Joe's case) and roiding yourself to do better in baseball.
Yeah both suck but they aren't the same thing, and even Joe's and Pete's cases are different as Rose didn't have the financial difficulties being a star player that Rose did.
Bonds and Roger are the worst of the roiders because they had talent, and Bonds did it because he's an ego driven fucking shit who cried cause his daddy didn't get enough alleged respect and Roger was going to flame out.
If they don't get in, they don't get in and you cunts get to deal with it.
I thought so too. If one minor leaguer steps the fuck up, our pitching staff will be solidly decent (copeland pls)
I'm scared EE is just gonna fade, though. I'm so scared. Toward the end of the season he cooled down and just sorta stayed cold
>red sox probably won't be in the basement anymore
tbqh with you Joe, we will rightfully reclaim first in the division, and put the eternal 4th placers back in their eternal position where they rightfully deserve to stay.
You guys can take second and cuck the cuckees though.
>we will rightfully reclaim first in the division
>You guys can take second and cuck the cuckees though.
>we'll overachieve like we did this year!!!!!!!
>muh wife beater in the backend will surely win us all the games
>muh 300 year old veterans
>M-muh 6 Aces
>We won't be shit and overrated like last year guys!!!
>Muh Hanley at 1st base
>Muh "HOFer" Big Papi (he never used roids u guys!)
>tfw KC wins the world series again
Just how much would people really hate this?
>improved starting rotation (greatest offseason FA, who was the best pitcher in the AL other than Chris "soon to be mush elbow" Sale and that kike in dallas)
>vastly improved bullpen (probably one of the best in the league if you ask me)
>most talented young core in the entire league with a farm system so deep that are #20s are considered #1s in other systems (not even making that up look that shit up if you need to)
>complete roster shift that has aided in placing people in the proper positions that they should be in
>players won't underperform like they did last year, having gotten their transitions out of the way
>Future HoF SS which is the best in the AL
>THE best OF in the entirety of baseball and its literally not even close
>Manager coming back from cancer, of which he got by absorbing it from all the team's troubles because he realized someone needed to be a sacrificial lamb to exorcise our demons
>HOF DH (the best in the AL, indisputably) going to have a tremendous year
>MLB will obviously rig the season in our favor as a consequence
I mean honestly, cuckees fans are a hilarious in the toil they put themselves through to deny deny deny.
The Red Sox are arguably the best team in the AL East, and are obvious World Series contenders whether you're willing to believe so are not.
Given that our team will be healthy come opening day (something it WASN'T all of last year), I expect us to have a rather explosive April as is custom for us at the beginning of the season.
Be sure to stock up on alcohol my dear cuckees degenerate. It will be a long, enduring season for you as you witness the Sox reclaim what has been rightfully been there's for the prior decade.
It's What We Do.
is it possible to have negative attendance
what are you memeing about fuccboi
>The Red Sox are arguably the best team in the AL East, and are obvious World Series contenders whether you're willing to believe so are not.
I've heard this before
>getting your mascot's living quarters BTFO by a 3 run grand slam in the 9th by a team travelling from literally the other corner of the country while there's a manatee sighting near home plate
someone is going to hit a fucking line drive and break that glass killing all of those faggot fish
I don't think anybody would mind in real life.
On the internet, everybody would hate it.
I would love it, though
reminder that Ken Griffey Jr. is not even the best baseball player from his hometown of 4000 people
reminder that Ken Griffey Jr. is a slightly better version of Andruw Jones
reminder that Ken Griffey Jr. did steroids and his body could not even handle them by the time he turned 30
reminder that Ken Griffey Jr. does not deserve 100% of the votes
>Griffey blatantly roids his whole career
>Has a god-tier first decade
>Spends the second half of his career below replacement level
>Bonds is natty first 2/3 of his career
>Blatantly roids last third
>Is GOAT tier for that third
>Finishes with well over twice Griffey's WAR
>Somehow Griffey is first ballot and Bonds won't get in
>I'm hype for the Sox-Jays-Orioles broship senpai
I know you've only been watching baseball since August but what kind of fucking broship is that where all 3 times are in the same division?
bonds needs no hall of fame
when you're that big of a figure, being forbidden entrance is a bigger mark of fame than getting into the actual hall
just think about it
>Barry Bonds, the man that was too good for the Hall of Fame
fuck this just reminds me of making dank OC for the world series
>tfw 2015 wasn't our year
>We have CC Sabathia part 2: Postseason choke edition!
>we have Mr. Crabman closer!
>We have a HoF SS with ZERO (0) All-Star appearances!
>Our manager is coming back from cancer just to go back to a locker room of cancer!
>We have a HoF DH (pic related)
Red Sox fans are just memeing now desu
i'm up for a mets broship too
midseason I saw the schedule for next year and I just thought "man it'd be cool to see a royals-mets ws and see opening day next year"
and i still can't wait
i like your puppy dog pitcher and travis d'arnaud
>broship with the team that dominated you in the eries
i respect how good your team was, but idk if i'm ready to be bosom buds yet
which pitcher do you like, syndergaard? degrom?
daily reminder that philip humber pitched a perfect game in 2012 and got cut by a korean team last year
degrom, i almost bought a pinstripe jersey of his off aliexpress but never got around to it
and I wouldn't say dominated, it was a team relying heavily on pitching versus a team relying heavily on contact hitting and defense
it was a good series nonetheless
he's my favorite too, i have his bobblehead and jersey
i think we just were demoralized by the way we kept choking away games
i didn't have much hope we were gonna pull it out because of our inability to put it away
and it was just really great to see my team there again, even if we didn't pull it out
i'm ok with this
who comes off the ballot this year?
>ortiz won't be remembered cause another guy who was also GOAT got banned before him
I just dont get it bro
i hadn't watched a mets game prior to getting mlb.tv
watching him in the regular season and the ASG made me a huge fan
the mets have a decent chance of making it to the postseason for a while if they can get the run support and defense behind that pitching
oh god, the all-star game was sublime
killed the "NL is free strikeouts" meme for a little while
yeah we'll be in contention as long as we have the godly rotation we have right now, and if our young players can generate some offense
looking forwards to the rematch ;)
>tfw it'll be less than 3 months away after today
who /hype/ here
get in here Chiraq bros
>tfw never played LL, just stickball in the cul-de-sac
>tfw the neighborhood kids liked football more so we could never get a game going
>tfw hit the ball into a canal on the other side of the fence and we didnt have another one to use for a month
No matter, at least their kike owners and Beane will be dead/retired by then.
i'd kill for a pack of this
also, if you didn't have a KGJ RC, or collect sports cards in general growing up, sorry to report you have a terrible father and don't know shit about sports
>tfw collected several binders worth of baseball cards and don't know where they are
I know where 90% of mine are, disorganized though.
But the problem was, our dads lamented using their Hank Aarons to make motorcycle sounds by clipping them to their bicycle spokes when they were little, once they grew up and saw how much they were worth. So they got us into collecting. Problem is supply and demand.
Everybody my age has all these boring, ugly ass fleer and donruss cards that aren't worth shit, then nor now, because everybody had em and kept em.
Late 80s/early 90s baseball card designs trigger me. And now Topps is using them and passing them off as retro designs. Having something to collect got me more into baseball as a kid though
>Reggie Jackson comparing Steph Curry to Willie Mays and Bob Gibson
>Bonds did it because he's an ego driven fucking shit who cried cause his daddy didn't get enough alleged respect
without hyperbole, this is the most absurd, simplistic, and distorted interpretation of the drive behind Bonds' personality as I've ever seen
Whoever gets Dat Dude Dexter Fowler is gonna be happy. He's an underrated impact player. WAR put him at just over 2 this past year, but you just feel like his impact is greater. He actually had a significant slump with the Cubs and that's the only time that they sucked during the year. Whenever he was getting on base, he was helping the Cubs win.
He's also a good character. The guy gives zero problems, his teammates love him, and he's always smiling. He also interacts a shitton with the fans in the stands during the game.
Oh, and he had the best Cubs walk-up music.
Fowler and Pence would probably become biffles and have too much swag.
@DexterFowler 20 Dec 2015
Taking the wife @DaryaAliya to the @BoyzIIMen show tonight. Hoping I can convince her to have another baby.... Or just practice

Heston as Long Relief/Spot Starter
>former ace with supposed technical upside
>former CYA ace who is still effective as a backend starter
>former near-ace with recovery upside
All with All-Star pedigrees, and the only one who hasn't won a ring is Shark (though the Giants are pretty good at winning rings with former A's and White Sox on the roster)
Long man with a no-hitter under his belt too, noice
is it just me or is Kevin Kiermaier really fucking sexy
I fucking hate registering for classes again reeeeeeee. Who wants to let me borrow $1100?
He's still shitposts as anon(smeth hate threads)
But he was a faggot overall, especially in /mlb/
He wasn't too bad in Shorks gamethreads though
The idea of building up winning teams from nothing really appeals to me for some reason. I really like to go onto MLB The Show and play as a small market team and try to get them into the playoffs.
Me to senpai. Have you ever played mlb 2005 on ps2? That shot is fucking crazy detailed as far as building your team or any team. You get to set up prices for food, tickets, etc. Having to pay for other stadium stuff also. If you wanna trade like 5 prospects for Manny Ramirez. It's fun
I've really tried to believe that for a long time. The Indians are really the only thing keeping me sane. Then again, baseball has always been more important to me.
Some of the Show games in the past were similar to that, and I liked that part of the game, I think madden still does something similar to this. I like the GM contracts in 2015 The Show too. It's an interesting way to play that game
Piazza goes into the hall as a Padre, cap it
Gonna miss Fowler. Only real downside to him is his age. Didn't flounder in the postseason like most the team either. He also had that "come my way" fetty wap song as walk up music. Glad the Cubs don't make us suffer through as much country as some teams. What music does jhey use?
Hello canadabros, how's that Alex Anthropology guy? Heard he's heading to the dodgers. Also take some dank Canadian Randal Choate
speaking of pissboi, where has he been?
>I run my own adjusted ERA in conditions that I deem fair.
It never gets old.
I have no idea, man. It's been a few days. Maybe he drank too much and entered rehab. Didn't he go on a three or four day bender last week?
Why don't we get sports broadcasters in baseball like that anymore? The first video, the announcers going insane, you just don't see that now in post season.
Even if the most exciting play happens they just talk like they're bored and uninterested and compliment the players tact for doing such a move while saying that whoever lets the play is known for doing such things.
Bretty easy senpai, just find the best looking players and watch them. I like mustache darvish personally
>Didn't he go on a three or for day bender
He did, and he bragged about it too. The poor guy is probably hungover as shit and can't even get out of bed to post more gold.
Derek Jeter won't be unanimous because some fedora tipping voter will say he doesn't deserve to get in because of "muh defense" while ignoring the dWAR's of Ty Cobb, Lou Gehrig, Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron, Reggie Jackson, Pete Rose, Mickey Mantle, Stan Musial, Ted Williams, Rickey Henderson, Carl Yastremzki, etc.
Hell, you don't see it in the regular season either.
I mean shit if someone hits an insane play the broadcaster should be able to act like it was an amazing play.
Hell though, that guy still acted way more excited than Joe Buck or any of the guys announcing this post season have.
Holy FUCK can you imagine how good this Ranger team is going to be next year when we finally get Yu Darvish back? That with Hamels, Holland, and the best Bullpen in the American League? Holy shit the Rangers are going to BTFO every team they play.
Texas Rangers WS confirmed in 2016
Joe Buck has gotten a little better. Compare the Boone walk-off https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLY16wmHdUk to the Ishikawa walk-off https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uogT8X26-ko
There is definitely a lot more emotion now than previously. Unless he actually does have a bias against the Yankees, which I doubt.
How did your teams season go last year? lmao phamalam
Your memes have no effect this Ranger team is dangerous to every other team in the league. Rangers are pretty much guaranteed to win the pennant at the least this season
>ever winning a championship
Dream on. They'll dominate the AL West with their stacked farm when it comes to fruition for years as well as be a serious contender next year but they won't ever win.
My girlfriend says I'm premature too
AL East: Red Sox
AL Central: Royals
AL West: Mariners (Digits don't lie)
AL WC1: Astros
AL WC2: Rangers
NL East: Nationals
NL Central: Cubs
NL West: Dodgers
NL WC1: Pirates
NL WC2: Diamondbacks
When Arizona played WSU this year Trey had an amazing play which kept Zona in the game and all I could think about was this kid could go to the NFL and still never mean shit compared to his dad.
>choking against the Roylels
>Browns going the #analytics route
Welcome aboard, nerds. Maybe now you won't ignore a $100,000 QB scouting report to draft an alcoholic manlet recommended by a homeless man.
It couldn't be any worse than it's been for the last 16 years.
I'm hoping it'll force some here to re-evaluate their refusal to support the local baseball team but I won't hold my breath.
Dan Haren's retirement baseball confessions:
@ithrow88 Jan 4
I went into almost every start the last few years thinking... How the hell am I gonna get these guys out
@ithrow88 Jan 4
There's was atleast 3-4 times I thought the team plane was gonna crash.
@ithrow88 Jan 4
I would count out the days about a month in advance to see if I was gonna pitch in Coors field.
@ithrow88 Jan 4
One of my favorite moment ever was hitting a homer off Chris carpenter. I took my time running the bases.
@ithrow88 Jan 4
I gave up so many homers cause I didn't wanna walk people. That and cause I threw 85 mph meatballs sometimes.
@ithrow88 Jan 4
I only hit like 5-7 people on purpose.
@ithrow88 Jan 4
Sometimes when the count was 3-1, I would just throw it down the middle and hope for the best. People pop up in batting practice right
There's a few more, including how he'd have to take medicine to not shit himself on days he pitched.
>including how he'd have to take medicine to not shit himself on days he pitched.
>People doubt that the yankees are the best at building bullpens
>20 years of bullpen performances, and 20 years of above-average bullpen performances. On a few occasions, the blue line threatens to dip below the gray line, but it never quite gets there. The differences have been consistently enormous since Girardi was hired for 2008 — the smallest difference has been +2.4 wins. But this isn’t just about Girardi. This is about the whole 20 years. The Yankee bullpen hasn’t struggled once. If you go with the simple-math expectation that a team has a 50% chance of having an above-average bullpen in a given year, then the chances of 20 consecutive years like this would be more slim than one in a million.
>That is, if things were happening by chance. This isn’t by chance. The Yankees have had Rivera. They’ve had Girardi. They’ve had money! Over the two decades, the Yankee bullpen has averaged +5.8 WPA per year. The league has come in at +1.6, for a pro-Yankees annual difference of about +4.2 wins. The Yankees bullpen has dominated, and it’s dominated even the second-best bullpen over the selected window.
>Sometimes when the count was 3-1, I would just throw it down the middle and hope for the best. People pop up in batting practice right
Some things never change after little league
>and this game is TIED
the most beautiful words in the world
>50 years of baseball in Texas
>no WS rings
Can we just contract the entire state of Texas from the league already?
Hall of Fame broadcaster! I walk by or get a picture with or of his statue every time I go to a game.
I bet David Cone had nightmares about Griffey for years after those two games. He always tore him up. I also love that Gary Thorne and Brent Musberger were on those national broadcasts. They were great as national guys.
/mlb/ will he be the first unanimous player? As of 6:30 pst he's on 171 ballots.
>McGwire hits a bunch of dingers
>considered a monster and disgrace, never to be in HoF
>Sosa is just a few behind
