There are several patterns aside from the ones that yield 6, and from what I can see it seems all of them yield 0.

Method 1: Loop the indices vertically in a loop. They go ... 4, 5, ?, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, ?, 1, 2, 3, ...

Then ? is either 6 or 0. If it's not 6 it's zero.

Method 2:
Oddly the first way I saw zero was more convoluted.

Look at the diagonal, again wrapped around. The sequence goes:

1, 4, 5, 2, 3, ?, 1, 4, 5, 2, 3, ?, ...

The pattern is +3, +1, - 3, +1, (something), +1,

So the (something) must be some operation such that, if we add 1, we get 1. So (something) is subtract 3, which again yields ? to be 0.

Method 3: Loop the horizontals. The loop of the first row is irrelevant. The loop of the second row is ... ?, 2, 4, ?, 2, 4, ?, 2, 4, ...

It is then once again clear that ? is either 0 or 6. If it's not 6, it's zero.

Thus, no matter how we loop -- vertically, diagonally, or horizontally -- if ? is not 6 then it is 0.
