Is it going to blow up soon?

The volcano erupts with a near-clockwork cycle of every 600,000 years. The last eruption was more than 640,000 years ago - we are overdue for annihilation.

>The volcano erupts with a near-clockwork cycle of every 600,000 years.
no it doesn't
>The volcano erupts with a near-clockwork cycle of every 600,000 years
this isn't true. and volcano eruptions are non relational time series, ie there is no such thing as being "overdue"
>>7805007
There are no signs of an eminent eruption, not in your lifetime anyways. We would know beforehand, when it was about to erupt.
The three most recent eruptions occurred 2 million, 1.3 million, and 640,000 years ago and there are signs that the magma chamber is currently building up at an alarming rate.
Even if it does erupt soon, there's no guarantee that it will be a massive caldera forming event. There's been a dozen smaller eruptions since the last big one 640kya.

Of course not, but it is fun to consider.
>>7805997
exactly this. for some reason mass media depicts super volcanoes being this massive eruption affecting the entire world at once, but it's really a series of eruptions over a long period of time that eventually affects the world due to the massive amounts of ash and soot present in the atmosphere.
>increase C02 production
>spew methane into atmosphere
>average global temperature rises a few degrees
>frozen CO2 and frozen methane start melting
>heating process accelerates uncontrollably
>literally nothing humans can to to stop it
>Yellowstone erupts
>ash cloud creates nuclear winter for 10 years
>global temperature return to normal
>>7805007
no
what you should be scared of though is the volcanoes we haven't found yet
one of those could blow up anytime without warning
>>7805007
>Is it going to blow up soon?
Define "soon".
>>7806023
So who will suffer the most by the atomic winter?
I can think that the west will just do fine, but places like africa and india will get fucked.
>>7807195
So 6 months snowed in and 6 months sweating our balls of for 10 years before it gets normal again?
>>7807198
I'd say 5 years of cold, becoming gradually warmer and the temperature would stabilize and be permanently warmer.
The upside is most people would die and industrialized society would mostly collapse, so in a century or so it would probably be back to normal for everyone left.
