Taking someone's opinion seriously, putting their words on the same level as (or higher than) your own. Something you do for experts, heroes, elders, etc. People who have done something great, or at least have done more than you have. It's kind of an old-fashioned concept I guess. Point is, you have to have done something to receive it. You don't just get respect for no reason.
