I don't know anon. It takes a certain level of autism. I think its more of a personality thing, some people just love them and most people it makes their eyes bleed. I pretty much immediately fell in love with ASCII games due to their insane amount of depth and variety. I remember as a child I would just read the features of MUDs and Roguelikes and they always seemed so much cooler because they had so many more races and abilities than any other game.

I can play other games too, but I find they get repetitive too fast, and I find the graphics takes away from it. After a while it feels like just watching the same repetitive animation over and over, the mechanics seem way too limited, and it actually takes away from the immersion.

Not to say the same thing doesn't happen with roguelikes, but it takes a bit longer.

The best way to get into them for most people is probably by using tileset/graphic packs.
