I'd recommend not getting an island, or if you do, make sure it has a high elevation.

If you're putting in all this effort and money, you want it to pay off and to create something that will last. One of the biggest threats to many island nations is rising sea levels, which will become more and more an issue in the next few decades.

You'd not want to buy a nice tropical island, only to have it end up underwater in 20 years. So yeah, if you do, recommend it's a mountain island or something.
