I agree OP I much prefer Baroque.

classical music is beautiful in the way that antique instruments or baroque architecture is, and because it is so conventional, the music becomes more about abstraction and ideas in sonic form.

but mostly, it gives people something safe they can like and analyze and appreciate since its a vaunted cultural institution.

Fun fact: I recently reckoned that I like listening to MIDI files for that reason, namely that the abstraction, the composition, is more conspicuous when the timbre and texture and whatever is simplified.
