VR is already here. 5 years and we have photorealistic VR and probably some kickstarter projects for other senses like smell or pain. 10 years until VR MMOs are common. Maybe we will even live to be able to afford neuralinterfaces.

Really though, I'd say there is a good chance that they will make harsh regulations on VR makers (who own and enforce patents on the good parts) using pedophilia as an excuse. There's already been several stories trying to whip up fury about child sex dolls, lolicon, pedos in VR, etc. It will end up like Nintendo's early system where they got to certify the content, and no company is going to want to produce lewd content for it at all, much less "creepy" things. It won't last forever, but thirty or forty years isn't an unrealistic amount of time for them to maintain their stranglehold.

I'll address this first. Political ideology comes with a lot of baggage. Given that politicians cannot be broken down further than on the personal level (since that sounded so retarded, I mean that you can't elect politician A for only policy W and not expect him to support the X, Y, and Z as well, even if you didn't vote for him because of those), it is a naturally holistic system. A person who is heavily in favor of, say, Austrian economics, is going to naturally be pulled to the right on other issues unrelated to that as well, mostly because that person is going to be reading literature by, and interacting with people who are also to the right. Same with Marxism, a Marxist is going to be drawn to the left on all issues as well. It is incredibly hard to separate planks from the platform.
